Here we are in the capitol of casinos, and yet this spectacular geological formation is somewhat of a guarded secret preserved for locals. Why? Part of it may be liability. There's a huge Mesa with monumental cliffs in a municipal park that has dangerous footing to amateur climbers, plus the threat of rattlesnakes. Maybe it's a little too risky to advertise. But, if you're in good shape, & you are hiking savvy, you really owe it to yourself to start at the bottom, hike up & witness one of the most remarkable views of urban sprawl at the foot of a pristine mesa in the middle of a desert. Less adventurous explorers can still enjoy the view by driving off Mt. View to the dead-end of Sunset to a parking lot usually little occupied during weekdays, taking a leisurely 5 minute walk to the same view. Of course it's another 5 min. walk back, but there's a couple benches that allow up to 8 people to sit & enjoy the view before returning. Stop at Ethel M's chocolate factory on the drive back just 5 min. or less. It's ALL worth it.

This place is bigger than it looks. It was a nice walk, kids were able to handle it just fine. Even saw some coyotes enjoying the sun! That's the only thing visitors should feel wary about when visiting Whitney Mesa Nature Preserve.

What a find. This place is pretty awesome. I only docked a star because of some trash and dog mess laying around..come on people. The preserve trail system is one loop, essentially. I enjoyed this civic oasis in Feb/March. Rocky main trail with multiple side trails to choose from.

The trails were a little confusing because they would randomly end and didn't have any directional signs. I would not recommend for elderly people or young children since the terrain can get tricky in a lot of spots.

Very nicely kept trails. You appreciate the water and wild life there. For as long as I have been in Vegas/Henderson never realizing how close this area was.

Great place for a morning walk/hike!! Very nice view and calm, not too trafficked. Nice place to get away from society. Easy hike, benches at the top, and doggy poop bags available as well. Dog friendly and good for young kids too.

Trails are not kid friendly, lots of trash throughout the trails, and pictures from Google make this place look really nice, but in reality it makes me feel like I need a tetanus shot. #Truth

This trail would be great but every thirty seconds there is a LOUD jet overhead! If not for that it would be a five star.

Awsome place to go run or just walk an take pictures. Dogs love it havenโ€™t seen any coyotes but there out there Iโ€™m sure havenโ€™t seen any rattle snakes either but they have signs posted. Every time I go out there I have a great time so donโ€™t be to worried itโ€™s a fun park.

This is a beautiful little park almost hidden away. There are walking trails & also in the area there's a bicycle race park close by. There's a couple covered picnic table area with nice built in BBQ grill pits & a restroom there's lots of parking & even handy cap spots with ramps for the side walks. At night it's well lite too so you can enjoy a cool walk to avoid the heat & the sun during the day.

It's a nice walk, some of the trails are bit too steep. The wildlife here are a cool glimpse to see, there a lizards and rabbits almost everywhere. Beware of rattlesnakes, be cautious other than that, have a good time.

View from the inner part of the end of Patrick in Whitney Ranch park in back of the BMX park. Going to the end into the Mesa parking with a beautiful view over seeing part of the east side of Las Vegas looking at sunrise mountain. The park has a few tables for seating to bbq or eat dinner and just feel the cool breeze from the Mesa. Tonight there was not much airplane traffic so it was nice and peaceful. Tables were clean and lighting was perfect feeling safe.

This place stays more cleaner than other parks within the neighborhood...probably because it's more hidden?

A nice leisure hike that's fairly dog friendly. To bad alot of the trail markers are vandalized or missing.

At the Whitney Mesa park, the unobstructed panoramic views of the Las Vegas valley are exquisite. And there's all sorts of adventurous stuff to do. From hiking, romantic picnics, scaling cliffs, photographing dramatic landscapes to bicycling, rock hunting, exploring caves, power walking, scavenger hunts and taking a breather, there's no other park in Vegas that comes close to this gem. The park is ambitious, original and clean. With several picnic areas (grill included), trails both above and below the mesa, bathrooms with working drinking fountains, plenty of parking and at least two park entrances. The only thing I would change is I would add working electrical outlets. Wonderful park Henderson. We'll done.

Beautiful park. It was clean and quiet. Several walking paths so you can choose how far you want to walk. Also if you want a beautiful view follow the trail to the top of the mesa.

This trail at Witney Mesa Nature Preserve has a nice 4 - 5 mile hike/walk along the upper and lower mesa. Easy hike with great views conveniently located along Sunset Rd, near Valle Verde.

Should be kept cleaner. However, it's a small area for many people. Would be hard to keep up.

Pretty nice desert trails... BBQ areas, trails, animals, nature... This preserve is also a great stop for Pokemon Go players... If you go, remember that it's a wild area. There are snakes and they may be near the many paths...
