We visited in April 2023 and thought it was amazing!! Most say it's a great place to bring kids, it's fascinating for adults also. My wife and I were constantly saying "Oh my, check THIS out!", and the building is incredible also. I would say it's a must visit in Madrid, can cover it in an hour or two.

Amazing experience that reminds me of natural history museum in London but this one is focused on minerals. It's free to visit and has a fantastic display. If you're a fan of colourful rocks like me it's a must to see.

Very nice small museum that can be covered in less than a couple of hours. And it’s completely free!! Amazing collection of a wide variety of geo mineral samples from around the world. Unique rock collection. I just wish if they could have better lighting to showcase their collection well. Also, the actual rocks and fossils museum is on the first floor. The directions were not so clear. But you can always ask friendly smiling staff.

An exceptional museum, open from morning until early afternoon (closes at 2). If interested in fossils, offers a wealth of display cases, sorted by geologic age, and point of origin (in country and from the rest of the world). Exhibits are spread over the ground floor--approximately one hundred twenty floor vitrines, and twenty wall vitrines, and the first and second floors (approximately thirty-six vitrines per floor). Plan between ninety minutes and three hours. Entrance is free, but the security will request an identification card from one member of each family group, as this is a government building. If visiting in summer or during a heat wave, the air conditioning in the museum is not the most efficient, so it can get rather warm, particularly mid-way along each of the wall galleries on the higher floors.

Free entrance. In the beggining it was looking very poorly, but after passing the doors there were hundreds of minerals on 3floors. Some of them historical with parts of animals. Some simply beautiful. Nothing in English but still very enjoyable. Building from the inside is beautiful. Roof and some of the windows are astounding.

This museum is a must for all those who love geology, rocks, fossils and crystals. The exhibits are well categorised by their chemical formation (silicates, elements, etc) and there are a number of varieties for each rock and crystal. It is worthwhile visit There is also a section showing the various rypes of cuts used in gemstones. In January 2018 there was also a highly interesting section on amber, however I don't know if this is a permanent exhibit. Highly recommended. Entrance is free but a travel document / passport is required.

An impressive collection of ores and fossils. A well-designed museum, where you can easily spend a whole day admiring the brilliance or mystery of each ore or fossil. I highly recommend especially to geology and archeology enthusiasts.

Wow. Just wow. We are hobbyist field collectors from UK and generally find mineral museums to be a bit of a jumbled mess, or missing the high quality systematic/locality based approach. This museum was exceptional, great specimens of both fossils and minerals, lots of info and was free to enter. We spent a couple of hours and I could have spent more, but we were only visiting Madrid for the day. Was great to see some specimens from our home turf, and one from a locality I have visited in the UK Only gripe was the majority was not translated, but we can not expect this as visitors to another country. Would highly recommend visiting!

This museum has an impressive collection of fossils and minerals. The building itself is an architectural jewelry. Has free entrance and is one of those places you can go with your kids and they will not get bored.

Amazing museum! Located in an ancient building, the interior of which also deserves attention (what beautiful stained glass windows there are!). The exposition is also excellent - fossils and samples of various rocks and minerals, including rare and expensive ones (diamonds, gold). It will be interesting for both adults and children. The entrance is free! Works on weekends!

It is an amazing place where you can go back in time and discover many interesting things about the history of our planet. Allow yourself as much time as you can, it's worth it.

Absolutely fantastic!!! Located in an unbelievably beautiful building (both outside and inside), it shows numerous large crystals, and a lot of rare minerals. Both are very nicely shown, and all have the locality information. The great part also possibility to see minerals of almost all elements. This is how a museum should look like. Btw, if you want to buy some minerals, it is possible during a small market at the school building attached, each (or most) of the first Sundays of the months.

Really great collection of minerals and fossils available for free in a nice building. However, there is no general information explaining the different eras, or information on the formation of the crystals and fossils. Additionally, there is no information available in English except for a map of the museum.

This place is a lovely gem. I like the focus on the more scientific side of gems and minerals.

It was nice to visit this museum for free (on the particular day). I am not a fan of it, but it was interesting. There is an issue to enter the museum for families with a kid's trailer. We couldn't find a way to enter easily, so i just carried our trailer upstairs. Furthermore it is just not possible to go to the next floor inside due to a specific spiral staircase.

A beautiful museum with a fantastic collection of minerals, fossils and rocks. Your window to earth science history in Madrid. It is free and open to public Monday to Sunday.

Nice free museum full of fossils and minerals. The interior of the building is spectacular as well. Keep in mind that you need a picture ID (one for the group is enough) to enter. Most of the exhibits are on the first floor, but there are also three levels of galleries around the main space. The only way to get to and from the galleries is through an ancient steep and narrow spiral staircase. No elevator. We visited on Monday and the museum was full of organized schoolchildren groups. The display cases are located close to each other, so a hundred kids makes moving around a little challenging. I don't know if they bring kids there every day, but maybe visiting during a weekend would be better. They do have very soft and nice benches to sit down and rest.

The museum is entered through an unassuming facade, up an elevator yo a world of trilobites, geodes, iron pyrites and the magnificent central hall with its multilevel galleries and stained glass ceiling.

What an absolutely amazing museum in a stunning building. Very extensive collection of fossils and minerals (although not many truly exceptional pieces). The stained glass roofs are incredible. And it's all free! Look out for the grumpy security guard who will demand your passport/ID and put you through an airport-style security check. Why? I don't know - I guess gotta generate employment one way or another :)

I wish my daughter would have been there! She loves rocks. Every element of the periodic table was represented! The building's architecture was something else!

If you need an explanation about any mercury oxide, ask the crew. Simply wonderful. Don't miss the optical instruments by the entrance...

Went with 2 nine year olds. We spent an hour there and enjoyed the collection around the border. We learned about the uses of different metals.
