A beautiful church next to the Royal library of Spain. A local person told me that the Royal family is being married in this church. Not sure if it is true but judging by the gold and preservation of the church I could believe it. It is a site that someone should visit when in Madrid. It is in walking distance from the center with Prado museum next to it. Highly recommended.

St. Jerome the Royal is a pretty little church of the Gothic style. Its proximity to the then royal palace gives it it's royal connection. It's a beautiful building, both outside and inside. The acoustics inside are magnificent, if you are lucky enough to be able to listen to a concert of old music as it happened to us. Well worth a visit especially if combined with a visit to the Prado.

San Jerónimo el Real is a historical gem nestled in the heart of Madrid. The architecture of this church is simply breathtaking, with its intricate details and stunning Gothic design. Walking through its doors feels like stepping back in time. The peaceful ambiance inside is perfect for reflection and a break from the bustling city. The interior is equally impressive, with beautiful stained glass windows and a serene atmosphere that invites contemplation. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or just seeking a quiet moment of solace, San Jerónimo el Real is a must-visit. Don't forget to explore the surrounding area, as it's filled with more of Madrid's rich history and charm. A visit here is a journey through time, and it's a place I would recommend to anyone visiting Madrid. It's a true testament to the city's rich heritage. #SanJerónimo #Madrid #HistoricalGems #GothicArchitecture

Saint Jerome the Royal (in Spanish San Jerónimo el Real) is a Roman Catholic church from the early 16th-century in central Madrid (Spain).

San Jerónimo el Real is one of the most memorable churches in Madrid. Its situation on a hill behind the museum of El Prado, its architecture and the beauty of the art and painted windows inside make it a must see.

Nice church across Prado museum entrance. It's a Catholic church interior contains sculptures and few paintings. You can see various nice stained glass. You can visit for free while you keep your line at Prado :). Other countries have tickets for the church entry, respect Spain.

We were only able to see the outside, it was closed off for viewing the interior. It appeared they had some repairs to do? I could be wrong. It is worth checking out since it is right across from Museo del Prado.

Beautiful church to see from the outside and hopefully the inside. We didn't get to see the inside though, because it was closed when we were there. It's very beautiful from the outside though.

Across from the Prado. After the museum closed we walked across the lane to see this church. I'd never heard of Saint Jeronimo, but my friend recognized him as the author of the Vulgate Bible.

Three stars for me does not mean bad, it just means average. I didn’t spend a really long time inside looking around. But if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by

A small but majestic church rising on top of a small hill next to the Prado museum, immediately feel like I am back in the 1500s once I entered and closed that big double wooden door.

Beautiful church with exquisite exterior brick work situated to one side of the entrance of the Prado. It's normally open to visit in the late afternoon and there are some chapels worth checking out.
