We stayed one night at your hotel during the Iowa State Fair. Let’s start by saying we could have stayed at the hotel right down the street for almost half the price but thought the higher price would equal a greater stay experience, wrong. Our room door was open when we got there. There were no clean towels in our room, which we were informed of upon check in and would be brought to us later. Our room had some chocolate type substance on the night stand and on the floor by the bathroom door and also nail clippings on the bathroom floor. There was also a hand towel wadded up on the counter. We informed the receptionist of the bathroom floor being dirty right away when we left for supper. When we returned they said the maid had not noticed anything being dirty. We checked and went back down to the front desk to inform them it was still dirty. Why would you not just sweep and mop it while we were gone? The receptionist came to our room with a rag and bottle of some cleaner to wipe the floor. The pool was also quite chilly and very small and there were no towels in there either. I’m sure the towel issue is not an every day occurrence because we were informed they were having trouble with their “machine”. On a bright note the breakfast was good.

The hotel appeared to be clean and modern. When we went to bed we pulled our sheets back and we could see and smell poop. It was disgusting. We immediately called the front desk and she came up. She was also disgusted. She said we couldn’t switch rooms because it was a full hotel but she would change the sheets. We helped her strip the bed and she went to get clean sheets. She said they did not have any left of the correct size so she put a blanket down and said she would make a note for the manager and that she would make it right. At check out there was no note and the front desk said he would need to speak to his manager and call us. The manager never called so we called them and made them aware of the situation. They said they would talk it over and call us back- never got a call back. Absolutely PITIFUL service! Especially when the staff saw how gross it was. They did nothing to make it right. Will be sure everyone knows of our gross experience and hopefully never stays here UPDATE: they offered us an entire $56.00 …. Almost embarrassing

BED BUGS! STAY AWAY. 0 STARS. Checked in at midnight last night after a long drive. Didn’t see any bugs when we went to sleep but then woke up at 3am to bed bugs on my husband’s pillow and my pillow. Horrifying experience. Showered then threw our luggage and clothes in garbage bags. Staff was not helpful. Had to sleep in our car for a couple hours before getting back on the road to drive 5 hours home. I called the manager and had to explain everything (the front desk staff did not even debrief on the situation!). I have a recorded call with the manager saying they’ve been working with Orkin for months trying to exterminate. AND I’m still trying to get refunded for my stay!!! Now we must put in the time, energy and effort to ensure we don’t bring this infestation home. First and last time staying at a La Quinta.

Brooke Laurie provided EXCELLENT Customer Service to our family during our stay while traveling from Michigan Westward and we are grateful to have met her!! From the moment of check in and beyond, Brooke was very professional, friendly and customer service focused on booking our room and making us feel welcome and we greatly appreciated it!! Our family has stayed at many different hotels over the years but I can say with confidence that Brooke’s customer service actions make us want to look for La Quinta by Wyndham properties for futures stays across the country in our travels!! Thank you Brooke for making our stay perfect!! Management: Please reward Brooke for her EXCELLENCE in Customer Service as she definitely deserves it!! Sincerely, The Thompson Family

i was passing through Des Moines on a work trip and decided to spend the night here. Check in was easy and the woman at the desk was friendly and got me everything i needed quickly.. Though the parking lot was small, there were still plenty of spots late at night. I could see it being an issue when the hotel was full. I was a little concerned about the noise when i saw 4 different guests walking their dogs outside before bed time. Fortunately everyone kept their animals quiet as I didn't hear a peep from any of them all night. the room was pleasant and updated. everything looked clean. the bed was comfy and i slept pretty well. in the morning i went down for breakfast and they had a bunch of options. i ate my fill, checked out and was on my way. I would definitely stay here again. No complaints.

What’s in a name? Apparently, not much when you are referring to this hotel. Here’s why I say that. In my experience, La Quinta, just like Wyndham’s sister properties (Days Inn and Super 8) can really range from “ok” to “great.” This particular one falls into the “great” category. It’s obviously pretty new and is likely state of the art as far as this brand goes. The hotel is very inviting and the staff is friendly. The lobby is clean and the rooms follow suit with comfortable beds, nice amenities and the breakfast was great too. My mom commented that she was asleep in her comfortable bed almost immediately and actually slept all night. This is saying something because she normally doesn’t sleep well. I would definitely stay here again. We come through the area at least a few times per year. I hope the owners of this hotel will read this and keep this hotel up. Unfortunately, as I said above, La Quinta’s are not always as nice as this one is.

Everything was okay until we went to turn the TV on... there was no remote. Called the front desk which took 5 minutes to answer and asked for a remote, that we didn't have one. Girl at front desk said she had to turn it into maintenance, that she had no extras. So we were unable to watch TV the entire stay. I asked if there was a discount for not getting a TV and she gave me a dirty look and said No! She was a very hateful little girl that was too lazy to take initiative to help with anything. Service here is non-existent which makes this hotel a big NO for another stay.

They neglected to tell us at check-in that they have this ridiculous policy that only one device can be connected per room. We had work to do online that we couldn't because of this, even after disconnecting all but one device from the Wi-Fi. We asked the front desk what to do about it and they said they'd "send someone up" to our room. They never did. Then, the next morning, there was nobody at the front desk to ask for a receipt so I can get reimbursed. There was a sign saying all receipts had already been emailed to guests. They had not. Horrible, horrible service. The only plus is that there are some great restaurant options within walking distance... but this is also true of other hotels in the area. Stay at one of those instead.

Nice big rooms and bathroom with new furniture and fixtures. Pet friendly is always a plus and I can tell it is clean when my pup doesn't find any extra "treats" under the furniture!! The night was extremely quiet and breakfast was good and hot.

We stayed here 2 nights. First night was fine, 2 day our room was not cleaned. We didn’t have any bath towels, my husband went to front desk and they only had 1 pool towel. This is unacceptable for the money we paid.

Went to Altoona for a work event. This hotel is just 3 years old - super clean, great employees that we met. Bed and pillows were super comfy. Great amenities (except for the pool, which looked sad and small. Don't got for the pool)

The room was dirty. Air did not work. Room was 75/78 degrees and it ran consistently. We asked to have it looked at Saturday morning before leaving for our volleyball tournament. That never happened. We had a small potluck in the common area on Friday night to watch the Iowa girls BB game. Was told no liquor...ok...but then also told our girls could not come in with swimsuits on even if they had a shirt on or beach towel wrapped around them. It didn't look good for the hotel. We paid $280 for 2 nights and our group had approx.20 rooms. We cleaned up after ourselves and even fed the girl at the front desk. Bottom line, if you want a clean room (I did take pictures) family friendly, where your room is to hot to sleep and pay top $ stay here

The front desk staff is awsome. ( with the exception of the guy there in the AM) Getting the cleaning staff to clean is different. I had to ask three days in a row for service. Breakfast should be served earlier, not everyone can wait around until 0630 to eat. The morning guy yelled at me for getting a piece of fruit at 0545 as I was leaving. He needs to be retrained on his people skills. Other than that the place is generally clean and serviceable.

Stayed for one night. Got there around 9pm. Gal who checked us in was pleasant and pretty funny actually. Room was clean. Free breakfast was good. Staff kept things filled and were prompt at wiping down tables as people left. Reasonably priced. Very positive experience. I would go back again.

Renovated. New and clean. Room was pretty spacious and fresh. Good sound proofed. Would stay again. Breakfast was little bit disappointing. Biscuits was dry and hash browns was burned.

By far, the nicest la quinta I ever stayed at. Staff was great, room exceeded my expectations and they had a full bar in the lobby. Located next to the horse track and casino and great dining options, this hotel is a hidden gem. I will always stay here when in Des Moines. Great job guys!

Room was clean, breakfast was good. Upgraded room just to insure main floor room. 2 knee surgeries makes stairs difficult. Got to the hotel, was given 1st floor room but when we tried to go in, it was occupied! They had no idea guest was staying the week. To floor 2 we go. Stayed 3 days and had to go to the front desk 4 times because keys didn't work. Went down to front desk for new key, all the way back to the room and they still don't work! Back to desk we go. Also, Keys stop working at midnight. So if you go to breakfast, you can't get back in your room. We like pet friendly hotels but hotel worker would let her dogs outside the door and walk away. She left them unattended every day we were there. If guests were trying to bring their pet inside, that is a potential dog fight waiting to happen.

Excellent motel! Perfect for a road trip stay or for an extended work trip. Rooms are brand new with comfortable beds and very very clean. Bathroom was well lit with a shower/tub with amazing water pressure. Breakfast was beyond expected. Had all the basic plus biscuits and gravy. Coffee was decent. As always, it was pet friendly. Fyi they charge a pet fee of $20 per night.

This was a really great hotel and I was pleasantly surprised! I don’t know if my room was upgraded or what, but it had a sectional couch with 2 TVs and was great! The hotel amenities were nice and the breakfast was really good. Staff was friendly and gave my dog a treat at check out. There is a lobby bar that you could bring your dog to. My only complaint which really wasn’t terrible is my room definitely needs a new mattress. It dips in really bad, I had to get up in the middle of the night and move to the other side. But I would stay here again!

After a super long day of driving, we finally arrives at the hotel around 9pm. Kaya at the front desk was so friendly, professional, and fast.... We quickly made it into our extremely clean and beautiful room. We are so thankful for such a nice room with great staff, especially when traveling with 2 cats. Thank you Kaya!!

Friendly staff. Decent breakfast. Our room was not really clean. It was dusty. The commode could have been cleaner. The rooms are the most important part. The kitchen, pool and front desk area were clean.

First time at a La Quinta in awhile. Friendly staff, clean lobby and room, comfy bed and breakfast was sufficient…a normal “motel” breakfast. In these days of high prices, we felt the room fee was fair and the pet fee for our small dog was reasonable. We are very particular, but we would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here on a Tuesday night. We are traveling with a dog. Overall it was a pleasant stay. Roomy rooms and bathrooms, breakfast was fine (coffee was decent), and good location off the highway. The hotel was clean- although i felt like the carpet in the room needed a run through. Other than that, bed was fine with multitude of pillows. The staff was delightful! Funny, its next to the Shriners ZaGa Zig newer building, down the street are the old buildings. I’m assuming this due to the pointy roofs.

Nice clean hotel with large rooms and a good breakfast bar. Indoor pool was small. Only complaint is there in not much soundproofing between the floors as it sounded like a herd of elephants were running back and forth above us until they tired out.

We stayed from 4/29/22 to 5/1/22. The whole hotel is one of the best I've stayed at ever. Thank you for a wonderful time! Please tell Belinda how awesome she is. Breakfast was amazing and the waffles she helped me with were delicious. She is a very kind and hardworking woman.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. Stayed in an amazing room and had a decent view over I-80. The Breakfast was really good had the standard eggs, breakfast sausage, biscuits and gravy, etc. And the service for hotel was amazing. When we accidentally dropped our passport holder in the parking lot Kasha, who was running the front desk, took the time to return it directly to our room while we were at dinner before we even noticed it was gone. That made our day! Would definitely stay here again.
