Kids were playing volleyball at a tournament at the convention center. I had a 2.5 hour gap and wanted to see something unique. Wow, this was a surprise. I arrived right when they opened and had the place to myself. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Prices were fair and it was clean. Saw families with kids which is fine.

Incredible food! So fresh. Very small, dive type of bar, but very cool shrine to the greatest, intergalactic metal band, GWAR!!! No, seriously, the food was really good, the staff was friendly. I'll be back.

Not only the perfect place for drinks but food as well! I have visited Richmond VA from CT three times so far specifically because this place is so amazing. It doesn't matter if you like GWAR or not (but as a fan it certainly elevates the experience due to the various stage props and artwork on display in and around the bar), this is THE place to go for food and drink in Richmond! Great low-key vibe and friendly staff. I'll be back again next year!

Literally the first place we went upon checking in. Everything about Gwarbar is awesome. From the decor to the drink prices to the music. If you're looking to do some serious drinkin', mystery beers are for you.

Recently voted 3rd best dive bar in RVA, so there are at least 2 bars in Richmond that are worse than this one! Awesome drinks, greasy deliciousness burgers and fries, and all hail GWAR!

Incredible food! Love looking at the art as well. But the food… damn! I went again for Mother’s Day with my kids (so we went early before bar crowd came in) because I wanted everyone to eat without complaining and this fit the bill. You have to order your food at the bar now, but staff was quick and efficient with it. Everyone was happy!

Vibe was metal, artsy, yummy, and eclectic 💀🤟🏽🖤🥰. Drinks were good and made fast. We got the white trash fries and mains. Kids are allowed but must be accompanied by adults. Good luck finding parking 😬 10/10 would return

Great atmosphere, amazing food, and cold tasty beer. If you're a fan of the band, of course you've got to hit up GWARbar. Even if you're not, go for the food! Can't wait for my next trip to Richmond to go again!

Ok Richmond seriously I’ve had my fair share of fried pickles near and far. These are by far the best spear fried pickles I’ve ever had. Next time I’m coming for the tots. Way to go!

Was excited to go here because of Gwar and also the vegan options. Love the atmosphere, but the food was sadly underwhelming. I got a friend tofu sandwich with buffalo sauce, but the tofu was basically a hunk of uncooked, unseasoned tofu with a thin layer of crisp on the outside. Please rethink how you cook that--vegans like spice and flavor too ;p

This place is so cool. And they have a regional beer that’s super close to a PBR, has a bit more flavor. Great spot to drink and people watch!

They have delicious vegan options and lots of them. Everything is clearly labeled on their menu - which I love. The cauliflower wings are one of my favorites!

Just ok. The place looked cool and all but the bartender had absolutely no personality and wasn't very friendly. Has potential you just need the right staff. Vibe was kinda blahh.

What a great experience. Long time fan of GWAR and didn't realise they had a bar until we arrived in Richmond. The bar is everything you'd expect and want from a place run by GWAR. Only reason it's getting a 4 and not 5 star is the beer is pretty basic. Don't go expecting anything exciting; I'd love it if they had a better GWAR branded beer.

The place was awesome. My friend was able to get a signature from one of the members, and all of the extraneous costume parts and props were awesome to look at. The food was great too!

It was a fun little place. Obviously if you like that type of music it is cool. Very small. Food was good and everyone was friendly.

Loved the vibe of this bar until near closing. I used to listen to GWAR a lot in the early 2000’s and it was so cool to see this place. Decor: lots of memorabilia of the band, including props, photos of costumes/shows, masks, etc. make sure you take a good look at the ceiling and walls when you’re there, there’s so much to see! Food/drinks: just average bar food with a couple vegan options. Some of the dishes have really cool names. Service: you order all drinks and food at the corner of the bar. The guy we were ordering from looked like he hated his life, he seemed so over it. It was a bit of a bummer, especially since my friend and I were there to celebrate my bday, but we just brushed it off and sat in our little corner. I took off 3 stars for service because of the aforementioned experience and also because as my friend and I were leaving, (it was 20 minutes before closing) we got up and like 3-4 employees started shouting at us that we needed to get out. We were already putting on our coats and putting our drinks away when they started shouting at us. There were still probably 15 people in the bar and we had kept to ourselves the entire time, we weren’t drunk or loud or rude in any way. I’m not sure what was up, but it was extremely off putting. I’ve never had this experience in any bar before, even Sticky Rice will let you leave without harassing you unless you’re not leaving at all or being belligerent. I’m not sure if it was just an off night, but the vibes were really good up until we started to leave. We had a great time otherwise, so it was really disappointing being shouted at as we clean up after ourselves by putting the food in the trash and put our glasses on the bar counter… I’d probably go back again, but I think next time I’d just have one drink there and move on to another bar after. Also, someone brought their toddler in at some point (probably around 10pm), which was extremely freaking weird. So apparently that’s allowed.

My favorite part of GWARbar is the look on my friends' faces when I take them here and they realize how good the food is.

I recently moved to the area and I was excited to visit gwar bar because I’m a fan of the band. Great atmosphere, the drinks were on point, bartenders are very attentive and the food is good. I had the cheesy tater tots. Let me tell you about them tater tot’s though! They were so tasty like they had Smokey bacon infused in the cheese. Also they have vegan options which is cool. A little something for everyone. Definitely recommend this place.

The food here is better than you'd imagine. I wasn't expecting the portions to be as big so I ordered too much. The service is also great. I made a stop in Richmond to come here specifically and I'm glad I did. The old props on the wall are great too

Amazing, just amazing home made seitán! Soft and extremely flavorful! Great vegan options, outdoor seating, and staff that wear masks.

Service was great considering one person was operating the bar and running food to tables. The food, in the other hand, absolutely nothing special. I ordered the Carolina Seitan and it had such a strange aftertaste I had to force myself to finish it. Everything else my table ordered (fries, tater tots, burgers, chips & salsa) were no different than anything you would find in a school cafeteria.

A little sad they no longer have the chicken and waffle sandwich. It was amazing. However these burgers look delightful as well. Always a stop when I'm in Richmond
