This is an absolutely incredible tour whether you’re a fish fan or not, and as far as I’m concerned, it should be on everyone’s “must-see” list for Porto. It’s a perfect mix of fun, funny, and informative. The guides and employees encountered on the tour are all welcoming and enthusiastic from start to finish (our guide Miguel also incorporated a great amount of good-natured humor), and the newer welcome and museum facility is amazingly well planned and utilized as a lead-in to the actual factory tour. There are a few technically surprising elements, some hands-on activities, and a tasting opportunity at the end that was honestly one of the best lunches I’ve had in recent memory. A huge thank you to the folks at Pinhais for a very enjoyable afternoon!

We had an incredible tour of the factory!! Our guide was so knowledgeable and kind. The tour was REALLY interactive and fun! We bought a bunch of souvenirs and made our own can. The tasting at the end was pleasant and the BREAD they cook in-house was indescribable. Perfect! But fair warning, come EARLY we had to reschedule because we could not find a parking spot! We parked at the grocery store only a couple blocks away.

Must see experience while visiting Matosinhos/Porto. Very interactive museum visit with enthusiastic guides, pertinent history on the region and local canning industry, plus a real view of the factory in operation. Ends with a lovely tasting experience in their cafe. Beautiful shop with full selection of their delicious products. Friendly staff. 10/10 experience overall and can’t wait to make another visit soon with visiting guests in town.

Excellent tour with great videos. Our host (Migali) was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Tasting was fun and delicious. If you want to see a working factory, go between Monday and Friday. If you want to walk the factory floor, go on the weekend.

The whole family enjoyed the tour. Olga our guide was great and made it really engaging for our children. We found it amazing how much of the production process is still done by hand. Hats off to the factory workers. The tour finished with us tasting sardines and mackerel, as well as freshly baked bread. Delicious, especially the secret tomato sauce recipe.

The factory tour is a “must do” to add to any itinerary when visiting Porto! Lasting about 90 minutes, you are treated to a wonderfully curated history of this Portuguese sardine and fish cannery, including some entertaining videos, a walk through the canning facility to see the (mostly) ladies hard at work washing, sorting, de-heading, cooking and canning, a quick lesson in wrapping the tins, and a marvelous tasting at the end in the “Can-Tin” café. An exceedingly well done tour, beautifully renovated spaces and a very rustic-chic lunch experience afterward. Plenty of delicious sardines for purchase in the lovely shop, and the shop and café are both open to the public, separate from the factory tour. An easy walk from the Matosinhos Câmara metro stop, and you’ll also be an easy 10-minute walk from the Matosinhos Mercado or the beach at Matosinhos Sul. A really lovely experience to learn about this very traditional Portuguese industry in the place where it started 100+ years ago.

We came here as we found out they do tours. It took maybe 20-25 minutes with the tram to get here from the city. The tour we took was during the weekend, so the factory workers were not working. The tour was very interesting and interactive. Our small group learned about the history of the company and how it is still a family owned. The workers are also locals and the fish is sourced locally. We were able to learn about the entire canning process first hand. In the end, there was even a tasting with vihno verde wine pairing. If you are looking for something off the beaten path, I highly recommend coming here!

Great tour around the factory with detailed explanation on how it all happens. You get to go down on the factory floor to see it all. Staff are absolutely lovely and very kind. The tasting at the end was the cherry on top. Would 1000% recommend! ⭐️⭐️

We had an incredible time at the factory tour. The entire staff, including the shop employees, were welcoming and friendly, and you got a sense of the community/family feeling that runs throughout the company. We even got a local restaurant recommendation for the front desk, which led to a great meal. Thanks to our tour guide Roberto, for the fantastic tour. It was a real highlight of our time in Porto. We highly recommend the tour for all foodies.

Outstanding experience to an institution in Portugal. They are famous for their Nuri sardines which are amongst the best. The tour shows a beautiful factory which is extremely authentic and clean. Tour ends with tasting the fish and a visit to the shop which is also beautiful.

Sardines from Pinhais are absolutely wonderful and the tasting event capped what was a very informative tour by Miguel. They conduct them in several languages but not every day so make sure to plan ahead and book in advance. Foodie or not, you need to do this tour if traveling to Porto and nearby cities. 12/10 would recommend!

Incredible people and tour. If you are in Porto or Matosinhos you must come and do this tour! A lovely mix of history and food, and an incredible operation they have had for over 100 years. Marta was a superb guide and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. A great experience to learn about a delicious part of Portuguese cuisine. And a fantastic souvenir and gift to being home to loved ones. Truly 10/10.

One of the best things we did when visiting Porto. We got a private tour on the factory and got to see the whole process very well explained. I was shocked to know that the whole thing is done by hand, even wrapping up the cans! Olga, our guide, was amazing and at the end of the tour you get to taste the sardines, which are delicious. I highly recommend to take this tour if you are in Porto.

Merci Marta, Madalena, Miguel..and All the women and men who have been working relentlessly since 1920. Very interesting visit and degustation. A neat and charming museum showing the values of family, tradition and a unique savoir faire. A must see in Porto!

We had a lovely time during our visit at Pinhais Conservais. Olga was amazing, she has made the tour interesting, funny and informative. Most of their processes are still manual including the wrapping of the cans but the hard-working ladies made it look easy. I'd definitely recommend this tour and if you cannot make it for whatever reason, at least enjoy their yummy sardines (we really liked the spicy olive oil one) at the Can-Tin café. They had a menu including sandwiches, salads with sardines as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

This is how you do a tourist attraction! It will definitely not stay a hidden secret for long. Our tour guide, Marta, was just fantastic. She answered every question and kept us completely mesmerised by the world of sardines for the entire 90 minutes. The whole museum is so well thought out. I loved the headsets so you could hear Marta throughout the entire tour, we had the previous day done a port cellar tour and it was so difficult to on hear the guide so this was a brilliant idea. Also loved the mix of films used throughout and thought the chance to wrap your our sardine at the end was great. Staff in the shop and cafe so lovely and friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Shop great too! Well worth the admission price it's a must do in Porto!

How is this not on every list of what to do in Porto?! Just awesome! We had a great tour with Marta. She was incredibly knowledgeable and a great guide. We started with a tour of the old offices, a video, and then the best part: seeing these amazing women in action as they make canned fish. The level of expertise is amazing to watch. It was also really fun to learn more about the process: from where the fish come from to the final packaging to send off. A nice touch is being able to wrap your own can. You can choose to keep it or not. We also really enjoyed the tasting room. The staff was lovely there as well. We enjoyed the spicy fish options which were delicious. Our group has two people who weren’t huge fish people… and they ate their entire can! I definitely recommend getting the ticket with 1 glass of wine. The regional green wine with thjs fish is really refreshing. The fruitiness cuts the saltiness of the fish nicely. You can go to the tasting room without a tour as well. We then walked 8 minutes to the ocean to enjoy the sea after our visit. We booked the same mornjng for a 1pm but I’d definitely recommend booking more ahead of time to make sure there is a spot! Easy to get an Uber to the cannery and back to Porto, either from the cannery or the water.

Such a wonderful experience! I'm not a huge fan of sardines usually, but decided to do the tour because a friend strongly recommended it. I'm so glad I did! The tour was so thoughtfully designed, and the folks were incredibly informative and friendly. The tasting at the end is fantastic as well (there were three of us, so we tried the original, the picante, and the tomato. We also got an extra picante pate which was delicious). A lovely way to spend a few hours in Porto, 10/10 🔥

Interesting tour of a working sardine factory. They let you try wrapping your own tin of sardines, which helps you realize how hard it actually is to do. They also let us sample different seasonings of sardines at the end of the tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and experience! It was such a great mix of history and amusing stories, plus lots of interactive elements and a delicious tasting at the end! This should be on everyone’s must-do list.
