Amazing. We got up early and arrived at the car park around 7:30am. The walk from the car park is about 1 km. There is a barrier so you cannot get any closer. The walk starts off very inclined and becomes more steady for a bit. Then the last bit is again very inclined. Pure guess but would say you are rising up 300m elevation overall. If you think of a treadmill in the gym it's all more than level 10 incline. Please don't let that put you off. Just take it slow if you find it hard. When you get to the large viewing platforms it's an awesome sight. We had the place to ourselves for an hour. We watched the sun rise begin to fall across the tops of the little peaks. It looks like something you might expect to see in Australia with the golden earth and vibrant green carpet of trees. Plus we got to watch the birds nesting near by in the cliffs waking up and filling the sky as a bonus. Looked like swallows.

A definite must-see if you're in Ponferrada. No direct public transportation to and from the mirador, but you can take a bus to Carucedo and walk 5km to the mirador if you wish. The most convenient way is to drive yourself or hire a taxi (I recommend Radio Taxi Ponferrada) to get you there and back. Vehicles cannot bring you right up to the mirador so be prepared to walk up a slightly steep path for about 10 min or less, but the views are definitely worth it!

A place to visit if you have the time. Entrance to an old roman quarry is 3,50 €. Most recommended!

Beautiful viewpoint with paid access to one of the caves. Information panels in English which is quite unique for Spanish tourist information.

Beautiful view of the goldmine! You have to walk some distance from the parking area up to the view point where you will be greeted with this spactacular view! There is also one part where you can go inside one of the caves to a viewpoint but it is only open certain hours so check beforehand!

Magnificent view of the old gold mines. The entrance to the visitor center /mine is closed during the winter season. But even the panorama deck alone is worth the detour we made.

Magnificent views created by nature and Roman engineering. Highly recommended. Not a very touristy place, so it is very easy to enjoy.

A long drive ñ, however, with a rewarding view! Best at sunset! These gold mines from the 1-3rd century are an amazing feat of Roman ingenuity and technology!
