Superb value for money. Might describe it as cheap and cheerful or rough and ready. Warm welcome from Sonia. Decent breakfast. Nice atmosphere in bar and good pub grub. Friendly locals. You won't get a better deal for a weekend in Durham or Bishop Auckland. Dog friendly.

Stayed for a night in the family room whilst visiting Beamish museum about 9 miles away. Recently redecorated room, walk in shower and nice bathroom. Very clean, comfy beds, room had everything we needed. No food served Sunday evening but was told where we could eat in the area. A hearty breakfast was included in the price and was lovely with generous portions. Couldn't see a car park but plenty of parking outside the pub. A bit out of the way in terms of location, but very good value for money.

We went for a meal and it was well worth the money the portions are very big. food tastes delicious and was very well presented. You may have time to wait between courses but the wait is worth it. We were a table of 8 and having been before we were again xery happy with the service all staff very pleasant.

Called in for dinner. Good menu with all the usual pub grub choices. Good portion sizes and very reasonable prices. Easy parking outside.

My son and I stayed for two nights at The Royal Oak while visiting friends in the area. The owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. They were particularly friendly and accommodating with my son, who has Downs Syndrome. Our room was excellent and the breakfast 5 Star with, every sort of high quality jam, marmalade, honey and spread that you could wish for. If you want a relaxed stay with warm and flexible service then I really recommend here. The Royal Oak won't disappoint!

I live in Eshwinning, which is the next village down. So occasionally I pop in with family for an evening meal. Good service, friendly staff, meals very good value for money.

Will be going back to the Royal oak. Fantastic meal, and breakfast. Good room size with everything you need for your stay.

Absolutely fabulous place, like a home from home, thanks to Sonia and crew for a great stay while we attended Northern Kin festival. Go stay there they are awesome people!
