    1. Don't recommend the longer route if you're allergic to bees. 2. It may be worth it anyway if you're prepared to run. The hike over the hilly grasslands surrounding the town was stunning, with a plethora of diverse flora, insects and birds. We took the yellow (10km) route which winds through some very green, lush, thick indigenous forest areas. Unfortunately, our hike was cut short when we encountered a swarm of angry, wild bees just after "J's Walk". Granted, there was a nicely illustrated sign ("Wild Bees") right by the nest but by the time we'd seen it was too late. My partner was stung on the forehead which made them swarm even more. We had to sprint about 200m back through the forest until we were out of range and fortunately escaped with only a few small stings, mild trauma and a good story. Note, the bees are sensitive and were unprovoked, but by the time one nears the sign it's probably too close to their nest to safely continue on the trail. Recommend the trail keepers move the sign further ahead of the hazard and/or make a detour far away from the bees.

Beautiful family friendly hike. 1st climb is a bit of a challenge for the kids but with some motivation they can do it. Varied landscape, mostly grassland with some indigenous forest. Plenty of butterflies and Wild flowers

Challenging 10.07k hike through varying scenes of indigenous grasslands and forests, with routes alongside a river and pines plantations. A must do on your visit to Magoebaskloof. Well maintained and directions are clear

Lovely trail. Ran it twice in one weekend. Absolutely loved the sections through the forest. Having maintained a 7km a while I know the difficulties in keeping it cleared, well done on your efforts. I wish there had been a Zapper or Snapscan way of contributing. My intentions were good, but I don't carry cash and ended up forgetting to make a donation.

Cool little hike. Good variation of terrain. Could be better maintained in places, but we really enjoyed it. Amazing bird life all over on this route. Will get super webt and muddy with lots of slippery sections so I'd recommend doing this when it's dry. Moderately challenging, nothing too technical.

We've been living in Tzaneen for a year and finally got to do this trail today with our 2 kids (3 and 6 yrs old). Surprisingly they both managed really well, except for the first uphill 😂 A nice easy hike that goes in a loop, not much shade except in the forest. The trail is marked clearly. Just be careful in the forest, it is a but slippery at certain points.

Magnificent trail. It covers both dense bush close to streams as well as dry grassland. The trail is well marked and maintained. There are several species of mammals and reptiles that you might be lucky enough to come across. There is a short, and a long route. Both start from Haenertsburg's town road, Rissik street.

A bit overgrown in places, but that's too be expected with the high amount of rain. Beautiful trail, well marked, highly recommended!

Amazing well marked hiking trail that starts in the town of Haenertsburg at the village hall and meanders thorough grassveld and along Forrest edges, through hidden verdant maintain streams. We found lots of interesting insects, butterflies & spiders. Definitely take water with you and have decent hiking shoes, perhaps a walking stick as well though this is optional as the route is not that difficult but can take 4 to 6 hours to complete.

It was a beautiful experience out in nature. The wild flowers were in abundance after the good rain. Beautiful views, fresh air and peacefulness for the mind, body and soul. I can definitely recommend it.

🤣🤣we couldn't do the 10km hiking, after the cemetery we took a doggie walk back to the starting point we were tired. But the hiking was fun. We had great views and the directions were clear.

There are 2 trail options: for a shorter route, follow the white feet and the longer route, follow the yellow feet. I did the longer route which ends up at exactly 10km and 320m of elevation. The trail is really well marked and starts in the middle of town outside the Town hall. Watch out at 8.4km: it’s easy to miss the marking and end up on the wrong path, just go right instead of left. This is marked but can be a bit overgrown. A huge climb awaits you at the start but not to worry, this is the worst of it. The trail is maintained by the locals and done out of the love of it so donations are welcomed and can be done at the Foodzone shop about 100m before the trail starts.

Wait...we did the MAGOEBASKLOOF Hiking Trail...is this one close by? Sincerely hope it is...and that it is as well kept and natural. The wind in the pine trees...woaahh! Wind in the other trees...yesflflfsflfs! People who care to hike and love nature. Good for us each. Good for the other. Plants and sunlight, birds, insects & not many forest animals in fact...yet that baboon bark in the early morning was quite something! Memories special this time. I have new parents. Hallelujah! Thanks to my loving Father for this experience! Hope you enjoy it too.

A nice and easy walk and mostly without shade. But if you want to see the most beautiful forest, rather go to the Swartbos trail a few minutes away.

Easy to find. You can park at the Magoebas Kloof Hotel, and any staff member will point you in the direction of the start of the trail. The trail is short, but it does have a few steep bits. But if you take it slow, and rest a bit, it's doable. I would not reccomend this trail shortly after it rained. We went on a bright sunshiny day, and even then it was slippery. The route is clearly marked. At each crossroad, there is a clear map with directions. The trail itself is very beautiful. It feels like you're in a different world. At times it felt like we're in Jurassic park. I would recommend this trail.

We decides to do the long walk, GPS took us just over 10km. It was lovely. The first bit to the cemetery was the hardest. The forests were beautiful, the Fauna and Flora were lovely. Birdlife, flowers and butterflies were plentiful. Watch out, there are a few holes in the parth, one needs to be quite fit and adjile in the forests and over the makeshift bridges. Can be quite slippery when wet.

Had lunch at inni-Berg Coffee Shop and saw the map on the wall for the hike 🚶‍♂️ so decided to take a walk. It was a very enjoyable walk up until we got to Nippers Nook and the trail got a bit overgrown so were constantly brushing through vegetation but that's more due to lack of use than anything. I'd do it again if I was in the area

The beginning is easy to find. We got lost near the end and had to find our own way back. A bit of bundu bashing, but it was ok. Trail is well maintained most of the way.

Attempted this with a 3 and 5 year old - not a great idea. First 2 kms is dirt roads, almost all uphill and not too scenic. I'm certain it gets better after that but wouldn't recommend it if you have small kids.

Great experience me and my 8yo old brother took the yellow route it was a bit hard on him but he finished like a pro. Though the yellow path was really badly carved out and there were few markers showing the way. The experience was excellent still!

Just a great hike! Beautiful scenery, flowers, butterflies, indigenous forrest and little streams. The beginning of the hike is well maintained, the end gets a bit rough, but that keeps it exciting!
