Very nice place to spend a sunny day. A lot of cafes around where you can get a snack or simple drink. Or just chill on the grass or on the stairs, read or listen to a street musicians. I loved it!

Lovely lake. Nice statues and architecture nearby. And a row-yourself boat rental (max 4 adults) costs €6 for 45 minutes on the lake. Great opportunity to ride a small wooden boat. Just keep an eye out for others boats. However, everyone is friendly. Well worth a trip to the lake.

Really lovely tourist spot! We were so lucky with the weather in October we spent most of our time in Retiro park. On the second day we got a boat for 45 minutes then had a picnic in the park. Boats are only €6 so definitely worth it. There are big fish in the water, and lots of ducks. There are also lots of cafes around the park with facilities. If you’re into chess, walk about 5 minutes from the water and you’ll find a bunch of tables laid out ready to play.

I went for the crystal first and ended up walking here. Place is open and very interesting. I sat by the stairs for about two hrs watching people have a lot of fun. I had my brunch with me so I enjoyed it with this great view. The place is safe and public. If you want to take a boat ride you better visit on weekdays or early in the weekends. There is a bit of a cue for the entry to rent the boats. Otherwise the park is free and open.

This is a very beautiful pond and a beautiful place to relax. Even in cold weather you can see people swimming and canoeing. Hot coffee and relaxing by the water always help recharge your batteries.

Beautiful park in Madrid to spend the day and walk. You can find places to eat and several artists selling their original artwork. One of the best things to do at the Great Pond is to rent a rowing boat and take a leisurely paddle around the lake. This is a great way to see the park from a different perspective and to enjoy the peace and quiet of the water. You can also go for a walk or run around the perimeter of the lake, or simply sit on a bench and watch the world go by.

We could have spent all day here, and so can you. The park is huge, with spidering walking paths, and the pond area has bars and restaurant aplenty to stop and rest awhile. There are also paddle boats available if you want to scoot around on the water, and a general nice vibe to the place. Enjoy!

This park is huge! So much to do and lots of spots to relax. We enjoyed our boat ride. 4 stars because this place needs more water closets and the morning staff we’re not helpful at all. Although the pm staff were very courteous, helpful and nice.

Beautiful place that's one of the biggest attractions of El retiro Park. Beautiful ducks and birds, musicians playing around it and you can also rent a boat and enjoy the pond itself.

This pond is an enormous and attractive feature of El Retiro. You'll spend quite a while walking around the outside of the pond. The pond itself allows for row boating which is perfect for a date or self relaxation if you can find an emptier spot on the water. There are fish in the pond so don't get spooked if you see them. Seating is available all around the pond.

Great park, great atmosphere right in the center of Madrid. I went to spend few hours there, lost of things to see, the lake, the crystal palace...There was full of lights at night making it so pretty. Coffee shops, candy shops a bit pricey but I guess is such a touristic place that they make the most of that in any city. Overall highly recommended.

A beautiful water oasis’s in the heart of Madrid. Wondering architecture and friendly fish and turtles in the water. You can rent and boat if you like and row around to really enjoy the experience. Also helps to score “romantic” with the ladies guys! 😁 There are also a few great places to eat right there around the pool/pond

The artificial water pond that is called Estanque Grande del Retiro is a crowd favorite. Many visitors rent a boat and paddle around in the shadow of the monumental colonnade built to honor Alfonso XII. Unfortunately, from some angles, it is possible to see one of the city's modern residential towers, possibly one the worst placed buildings in Madrid - but obviously not for those who live in it because of the view that they have on the park.

Beautiful park in the heart of Madrid. My tip, a visit in the earlier morning time is much more enjoyable. Later it gets crowded, specially on the weekend.

Amazing part of El Retiro park in the heart of Madrid, view is beautiful, you can rent a boat and enjoy paddling across the pond. street music performances tend to be stand there around the pond to play their music. I enjoyed a walk around the pond and to me it was the best part of the park.

Very beautiful park. The family and I spent a few hours here and we went to see the crystal palace. There were fish, ducks, and turtles in the pond, police horses, artists, vendors, food, you name it.

It is a must in Madrid, and one should take a time to visit it even if staying only for a single day in this city. I recommend taking the little boats, it costs around €8 (45 min) and can be shared among four people. Take care because it is a very touristic site, so people will try to sell stuffs to you quite often, and prices for eating may be higher too. However, compared to other European cities, it is an extremely safe place, don't worry.

It’s a great activity to do with friends, family or couples. Only 8€ for a boat, 4 person per boat, for 45min. There is also music all around the park which sets a very enjoyable mood. I do recommend to reserve your time slot the day before on the website or the app so you don’t have to wait in the queue.

Visited here for about 3 hours and had the best time in Madrid at this park. The experience was like going to a carnival of festival. If I came back again, this would be the first thing I do is come to this park.

Pretty lake with fish and boats available to rent. Could do with more shaded areas, especially in Summer. Note the group of boats in one photo trying to fit under the solitary overhanging tree for shade on the August heat

I recommend taking the paddling boats for 45 min It costs 6 euro for 4 persons but need someone willing to steer and paddle Very nice atmosphere and remarkable view Waited in the line for 15 min or so.. there is skip fhe line tickets online, did not seem to be necessary Choose the latest hours as i feel it is the best for the view Sadly the pond is closed at 9 pm

If in Madrid el retiro is a must. The estanque grande in particular is its main attraction. Truly worth a visit.

Great place to have a picnic or a run/ walk. Highly recommend 1-2 hours to cover the grounds and see all the historical and sculptural pieces. Entry is free.

Really poor service. Waited 20 min before the waiter came to take our order. Drinks arrived swiftly, but waited then another 25 minutes for my husbands pasta dish. There was no cutlery and the pasta was cold when cutlery arrived. My food had still not arrived and my drink was finished. After additional 20 minutes! my pizza arrived. It was absolutely good, but the combined experience unfortunately was not salvaged by this point. Waiting for good food is totally OK in a fine restaurant. But not ok at an outdoor touristy lunch facility.

As you’re walking through the park your, pond this pond. Nice to stroll around there are quite a few vendors and street artist dressed in costumes for the kids to take pictures with but of course you have to toss them a euro or two. If you get a chance head over and row the boat around the lake.

A very beautiful lake in the middle of the park. You can row a boat, feed the duck, or just sit around the water to enjoy the good moment here.

Great place to spend a few hours, especially on a sunny day. The only Reason I’m giving 4/5 is because they need to take care of the boat rental. Unfortunately we couldn’t take a boat into the lake and while waiting on the line we all realized that it was closed at that moment. Nobody from the stuff working there approached us to inform us about the opening hours and we couldn’t even find a sign or anything. Sad!

A must visit park in Madrid! Recommend seeing the Crystal Building and the main Center lake, where you can hire a paddle boat.

Beautiful lake with lots going on around in the park as well. Can rent row boats for 6 euros and holds up to 4 people - very clean and well maintained. Beware opening and closing times as they close in the middle of the day. Better to pre book as line very long.

An absolutely stunning park with tons of musicians performing throughout. It felt very whimsical to watch the water on the lake and the people enjoying their strolls while a saxophone played nearby. This park costs absolutely nothing to walk around and it was one of my favorite parts of my trip.

The green lung of Madrid. Love this park, whether it’s for an afternoon stroll around the pond, a morning run or a sunset walk. I always feel safe no matter what time I go there.

Another highlight of many in the park de El Retiro. For us it was a peaceful and quiet place to seat and enjoy the view surrounded by a beautiful architecture. We enjoyed walk in between the trees and listening to the performing artists. Enjoy!

Such a beautiful building, very lively place, lots of buskers around and cute people dressed up in bears or lions costumes. You can also rent a boat and paddle around, lots of big fishies and ducks in the pond. The garden itself is spectacular. Bring some spare changes with you to tip the buskers.
