Visited during the day a couple of times. Good beers, great selection of gins. Lovely traditional interior. Had a burger, which was a monster of a thing. Fairly expensive, but you get what you pay for and it was very high quality. Looks like it has a decent sized beer garden also with dog friendly enclosure.

Charming, rustic traditional pub just outside of Leicester city centre, distinguished by a spacious and comfortable beer garden. I visited the pub on the first day of their "Summer Beer Festival", which essentially meant a larger than usual cask ale and cider range, and a barbecue in the evening. I arrived early in the afternoon when it wasn't too busy, but by the time I left (around 5 pm), it had become quite busy. Service was friendly, the fish cakes I had were quite good and not too pricey, and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing. Some nice beers, too.

Very nice atmosphere during lunch time. Amazing burgers and tortilla chips! Complementary wifi as I spend a few hours working from their outdoor space a few times this week.

Stumbled across this gem of a pub during canal bike ride - really really vegan friendly, great food, service and sunny beer garden! Would recommend.

Good experience at the black horse. The food is good, unfortunately there was a special menu we were not aware of and was not possible order from the main menu. Anyway, the food provided was delicious. Be aware that there is not so much space to park outside

Lovely pub, terrible food. Decided we'd stop here for a drink and some food as it has decent reviews on Google. The pub is nice, a traditional look, feels cosy. They have a decent range of drinks with some guest ales. Food though was quite disappointing. We ordered fish and chips, which was possibly microwaved as the fish was hot in parts and luke warm in others. The AFC tofu, AFC being 'Aylestone Fried Chicken' . This was by far the worst. Unseasoned medium tofu with a light batter. Nothing like what it sounds on the menu. At least use a seasoned firm tofu and better batter. For the prices paid we were expecting better than school dinner quality, left very disappointed.

A nice old style pub with a fair selection of real ales and some above average food offerings. At times, the unwelcoming attitude of the management towards bicycle users impairs the experience, hence I'm giving it 3 stars

Lovely staff, good selection of ales and top quality food. Extensive beer garden and dogs are welcome. The comedy club upstairs/outside has proved to be surprisingly good, with top names from TV regularly on the bill.

If you're looking for an old school pub with a relaxed homely feel, this is the place. We enjoyed Sunday lunch here after the Remembrance Day parade at Victoria Park, and I can't praise the staff and especially Colleen for hosting us. The food was 5*, and the locals were extremely welcoming. Looking at what this place has to offer from open comedy nights to quizzes in its separate venue, there's something for everyone. Child and dog friendly with an open fire and plenty of seating, I just wish I didn't live in Northampton as this would become my local!!! Until next time, to Colleen and the team, thanks from us all. You made a difficult day very memorable for all the right reasons.

I visited because it has been recommended by a friend. The staff were fantastic, the food was lovely, and the quiz was great fun. Would absolutely recommend, in fact, I already have done and I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Dined at ‘The Black Horse’ pub Monday night; booking a table for nine was easily do-able a week beforehand though I definitely recommend booking, it is a busy little hub. There is no onsite parking, you have to find space on the street, we’d booked for 6pm and were 3 cars, we found parking fine but might have been difficult later in the evening. The two men in our group were immediately happy with the festive ales on tap, I was impressed with the decor and look of the pub. The menu covered everyone, we didn’t do the festive menu just the regular one. In general everyone seemed happy with food but it’s me writing the review and I wasn’t thrilled with my meal; the coleslaw was spot on and elements of the Lest-ah burger were fine only the burger patty itself crumbled up and made it difficult to eat as a whole. Also the chips were sus, they were stuck together en mass, you couldn’t just pick one up, it was a big clump on your fork, I didn’t like them, I gave some away and left the rest. Hugely lacking in atmosphere in my humble opinion, no music just the ever-growing volume of chatter, constant babble in the background. And the service was efficient but no character, we were obviously there for a family festive meal but there were no elements of warmth or cheer, serious faces and no smiles apart from the one chap who came to clear our plates, he had personality enough to cover all the employees. Shame though, a smile costs nothing, eye contact or acknowledgment, a connection makes all the difference when visiting somewhere for the first time.

Great pub with excellent staff and good home cooked food. Something apart from Amber Ale on the hand pulls would have been perfect. But without doubt a pub I would return to.

Homemade Beef Stew. It's been a long time since I last had a stew of any kind. This meal didn't let me down. Everything that goes into a stew complements each other so well, from the carrots to the gravy, dumplings, and a baguette on the side to dip in. Words don't do this meal justice; you have to try for yourself.

Visited The Black Horse both last night for a drink and again today for lunch. Tuesday evening was buzzing with the quiz and we were warmly welcomed and catered for very well. This alone was enough for me to want to visit for lunch today and I was not disappointed at all. The welcome was once again warm and welcoming, locals around who also are friendly. The menu is classic and enticing. The food was cooked impeccably and portions generous. I’m so pleased to have found this gem which has many themed evenings to keep this traditional locals pub up and running. If ever I’m back in the area I will absolutely definitely be returning. Thank you all for making our brief visit so special.

Our first time visiting here last night. The staff were all very friendly, cheerful and polite. The food was very tasty with big portions and there was a relaxed, but warm atmosphere in the pub.

Excellent service as always. I'm really impressed with how clued uo they are to allergies, a great gluten free option for roast dinners! The roasted butternut squash with Brie and cranberry is also a great vegetarian option. Nice friendly atmosphere! There were 9 of us and the service was great, food was all fresh and warm.

Definitely one of the best pubs/restaurants to visit this summer - had multiple meals here every one absolutely superb - great menu lots to choose from, and everything is always cooked to perfection... From a wide range of burgers and your traditional home cooking it all here in one place .. Staff are always so helpful and welcoming and it's dog friendly ! A minute from Great Central Way which means a ideal place to end your walk. A relaxed atmosphere and always friendly staff puts this place top of the list....

Walked into lounge area roaring open fire and great atmosphere. One of the bar staff was extremely rude and ignorant. Others were all great. We'd hired the bowling room for the afternoon which was all lovely and warm for us. The BBQ food was set up in a small cabin and was amazing. Fantastic day. We like real ale good selection of that too. Highly recommended

Great vege and GF options - Visited twice so far and was really impressed with the food. Visited once for Sunday lunch - they had good options for vege, vegan and gluten free which is great. Second visit was for comedy night to see Zoe Lyons. Nice venue and comedy gig seating was comfortable and not cramped even though is a very small space. Was very well organised and enjoyed the cider on tap and the funky disco tunes played before after the act. Staff were very friendly and keen to manage the GF order carefully which is reassuring. Will defo go back.

Skin-on fish not my favourite, fries rather than chips (advertised as chips), "crumble OTD" not available at 1:30 pm so disappointing. Price & service ok but unlikely to be rushing back there.

Really enjoyed a lunchtime visit to this place for a burger and a beer, having not been in for a very long time. A really hospitable environment with very friendly staff, serving excellent beverages and food. It was winter for this visit, so now looking forward to another visit in the summer to see the back garden in full swing, it looked like a place that could really get rocking in the warmer months. Burger was excellent, if expensive. Highly recommended.

Really nice pub, very quiet and chilled out and the staff were really nice. Had some nachos and loaded fries. The portions on both of them were really big and took me and my other half by surprise. Would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal at the Black Horse. We visited on a Wednesday lunchtime, I'd say it was busy for 12:30pm which is nice to see. The food was fantastic, plentiful, hot and tasty. The staff were really welcoming. Defo recommend.

I love this pub. Had a lovely evening with my son and my two nephews. We had food, drinks and went on to watch TVI comedy upstairs. The reason I’ve dropped a star; is that the burgers each of us had were not very good. Dry and tasteless. I’d recommend the chef to eat somewhere like The MeatShack in Birmingham…get an idea of how it’s done properly. £13 is a lot to pay for substandard food.

We called in to what we hope will be our local pub when we move into the village. When we walked through the door it was very cosy where the staff were very helpful and made us very welcome. For entertainment you could not fault them. Lots to do and enjoy, especially over this festive season. We did not have time to try the food but we have it from family who have eaten there, the food was very good.

A really fine local classic neighbourhood pub. Not worth the trip from central Leicester, but a great place for locals. Like many Leicester pubs, they serve Everard's excellent local ales. I found the staff friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Plenty of seating and a nice garden. I saw a great Edinburgh fringe comedy show upstairs here. Would happily go again if in the neighbourhood

Poor offering at recent cycling event buffet. Food quality and quantity was lacking in line with price per person paid. Not the friendliest reception from staff, also not great. Unfriendly comments about bikes placed in the wrong place. Apologised and offered to move with no problem, but the atmosphere was off for the event we were holding and could have been avoided / much better! Nice outdoor space but otherwise below standard sadly.

We came here for Sunday lunch. Everything was pretty good, however what really stood out was the service provided by a young, dark haired man (I don't know his name, sorry). He saw us queuing at the bar and offered instead to take our food order at our table. He couldn't do enough for us throughout the duration of our visit. A credit to the place :-)

It's so good to have this pub as a local. There are plenty of plaudits on here about the food and beer etc. and it's all true. This is more than a pub though. It's a community hub and reflects Alan and Sarah's warmth, enthusiasm and altruism. A number of interest groups have made it their base and they certainly know how to entertain. A visit to the Black Horse is more than going out for a drink, it's being part of something bigger.
