There is an edgy vibe to Leicester high street that is an unfortunate result of the system that governs our fine cities. Enough of the politics. All it means is, be careful of leaving bikes unlocked outside, was the advice the staff member at Kayal gave. Kayal is an establishment in Leicester. It is decorated in both awards and ornaments. It is beautiful inside. Take a look upstairs and behold the high ceilings and paintings. The upstairs terrace garden has been decked out too. An awesome social space to drink and enjoy the sunshine. I’m new to South Indian food. Kayal creates dishes that excite the taste buds. They are simple, informed the mesero , get this ingredient, dip in batter and fry. He was being far too modest. For me, a North Indian cuisine expert, I.e., a brummie loved the coconuty notes. The food is made to a high quality, the quality of service just needs to be ironed out to bring it up some of the best Indian restaurants. An enjoyable experience, a mirror of Herb in many respects. Before you ask, yes, my bike is still in my possession.

Lovely unusual Indian restaurant with good ambience, excellent service and some unusual dishes from southern india. Sea food is particularly good. Dosa was a let down as it was not crispy and quite oily. Lots of vegetarian options. Advisable to book as they have just won the Leicestershire curry awards and can be busy.

Taste was good. We had chicken curry with appam which was quite good. Chapati could have been better. Had variety of drinks as well. Interiors were good.

Really good Indian food experience 🙌 the service is very good and we asked for a recommendation and got a very good one. The food 🥘 is spicy but not too hot (for my taste at least, and I don’t like it super hot). Compared to some other restaurants you taste nearly no salt which then lets the other spices do their job and give you a great experience of taste 🤤 All in all a very good experience and I would come here again, when being around

Recently dined here on a Friday evening. The Chicken Stew was creamy & tasty, and the accompanying breads fluffy. The service was quick and attentive. Couldn't fault. Worth a try if you're looking for something a little different.

5/5 Located in Leicester city centre & just a minutes walk from Leicester railway station. Food was good bit salty for us. Service was awesome and friendly staff. Restaurant was decorative in Kerlaaa style. See you soon!

We visited here for the team Christmas Dinner. We chose from their pre-set menu. It was a simple three course meal, but the quality of food was outstanding. The service was quick and friendly. The place is well decorated with traditional Indian and Christmas decor. The place is not so big and we had a noisy group sat next to us. Apart from that everything was fine.

Loved the food! Authentic Kerala food, we went for a friends birthday party and we ordered chicken biriyani and seafood biriyani. Both were worth the price and loved the service and ambience. Lobo and Adithya served us, they vere very friendly ✨

Wanted to try somewhere I'd not been before. This place has a really nice atmosphere, the food choices were different to the normal type of Indian restaurants but was very nice overall. I gave 4 stars for food as I've had better papdoms and there wasn't a choice naan bread. The rice and chicken were different to what im used to but I loved them both and would have again.

The best restaurant serving Kerala cuisine in Leicester. An absolute must-go for those who appreciate south Indian cuisine. The payasam desert was authentic and as close as it can get to homemade ! Highly recommend!

Chose to eat here, before a trip to the Little Theatre. What a great place! We arrived just as they opened, so a little quiet to start with, but soon filled up. The food was excellent as well as the service. Would definitely recommend and re-visit.

A place to fully experience the best of South Indian cuisine. The seafood is exquisite in its taste and presentation. Be prepared to wait for it, however.

Haven't been for a few years, but as good as I remembered!! Crab curry is fantastic and had the Chicken Stew for the first time, which was also full of flavours. Highly recommend Kayal for great service and amazing food!

The food and service was very good, the portions could be shared between two people if required or can be a very filling portion for one person. The lighting made it difficult to read the menu properly so couldn't quite read the dish descriptions.

First time here, we weren't sure if we'd get authentic cuisine because majority of customers at tables were white. But we enjoyed dining at Kayal at a table upstairs by the window. The food was tasty and well presented. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

Really superb Keralan food- the taste is superb. Lots of choice, I want to have every dish on the menu! It is a little pricey, I guess these days places have to be to survive. I wouldn’t come here with the lads after six pints, it’s not that kind of place- it’s for the curry connoisseur who knows how good Indian food can be.

Worst experience I ever had from a renowned Kerala restaurant.... Please don't make people fool by saying Kerala cuisine......I have brought thalassery chicken biryani... The rice was uncooked...not enough gravy. I also brought Kerala porrotta and poth ulathiyath.... Being a Keralite I am truly disappointed......this is not proper thalasserry biriyani. One star is just for the takeaway packing..

The ambience is so good. Chicken biryani flavour was good, they only providing boneless chicken in the biryani. Not much affordable a little bit high price compare other kerala restaurant in Leicester. Service is ok.

We were looking to eat something nice ... boy did we find a nice restaurant As soon as you enter the aroma from the kitchen was reassuring We ordered medu Wada they did call it something else but it was the same thing ... and was made fresh I could tell however it could have been in the fryer for a couple more minutes Then we ordered the king fish curry That was absolutely smashing, very delicately made curry and amazing flavour. However, the fish was a tad bit over cooked We ordered the thalasary chicken biryani and that was awful In all it is a must try place just don't order the biryani The guy in orange was little anxious to go home or something but the other guy in black was very nice Nice ambiance of the restaurant

We got a walk in table on a Tuesday night. Place was packed with two large parties. There were 3 of us and we all got different options. The food was very tasty! Beers were good too with quick service. Nice vibe in this restaurant also but would 100% be back for the food

Came here for dinner and to also see some comedy during the comedy festival. Really lovely and calm restaurant, a little expensive but worth the price given how delicious the food is. I ordered their mixed seafood curry with plain rice and it was honestly one of the best curries I’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious flavours and will definitely be returning. Servers were all very friendly and attentive. Great sized venue space that can fill a lot of people.

The food was good. It tasted exactly like you could find in Kerala. The only thing was I ordered tea and was expecting the Strong Indian tea, but got something entirely different. Wouldn't recommend the tea, but the food was amazing.

Kayal Restaurant is a true culinary gem. The ambience is inviting and sets the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. The chicken main dish is exceptional, with tender and flavorful meat that leaves a lasting impression. The pineapple kedar ice cream and medu vada are delightful treats that showcase the restaurant's commitment to quality and taste. The staff, particularly Vishwak, provide top-notch service, making every guest feel valued and well taken care of. With a combination of delectable food, a welcoming atmosphere, and attentive staff, Kayal Restaurant is a must-visit for food enthusiasts seeking a truly remarkable dining experience.

Delicious and delicate Keralan cuisine, this is beyond simply curry! Coconut and aromatic spices are the stars. Plenty of seafood dishes, daily specials, variety of breads and rice. Atmosphere transports you to the coast, with giant pictures in the walls, relaxing music and opulent decoration. Good wine menu and non-alcoholic drinks. Reservations absolutely necessary on weekends and when there are sport events in the city as it is absolutely packed (unless you have time to wait for a while and not too hungry)

Pleasant atmosphere as soon as we entered and that was it. Service was slow as snail. We ordered thali which was around £22. It was lacking taste. Not good attentiveness towards customer. Overall very bad experience.

The experience from booking a table to service and food were exceptional. The booking system is quick and easy and you get a call on the day to confirm. The service is amazing, even when I mispronounced their dishes they recognised them instantly, skirting the awkward pointing at the menu. The food was amazing, so full of flavour and not too hot! I really liked all the little dishes and would recommend to anyone to go try it out for what I'm told is an authentic experience.

Authentic Keralan seafood and curry at its best, in a very vibrant setting full of character and wonderful staff. Seafood starters relied a bit too much on fried calamari and could do with a bit more variety. And try not to sit too near the front, on a cold day the wind blows as customer busily flow and in out of this fine establishment.
