Why is this place over 4 stars? I would give it zero if I can!!! It must be the worst Fish & Chips I have ever had! The worst! Friend recommend this place he said it’s one of the best... and when I told him about our visit he said he last went to this place was 2 years ago... what happened? If you look at my photos you will lost your appetite too... First the starter prawn cocktail - I have never ever had a WARM prawn cocktail before and the taste is not even nice, the prawns texture was old and chewy. The breaded fish was rock hard, super over fried... so we had to change it to their famous battered fish. Yes the portion is big but... the batter taste just greasy, no seasoning in the batter either, the fish inside also tasteless... the chips if you have a look they are soggy yet Some are burnt... how is that possible? The price is not cheap and I did expected high quality... But this place is the worse, not even up to normal standard. Let’s say I wouldn’t even eat or if it’s free. No way!

Always drive past and see the green lights. Hard to miss tbh as it’s massive. Deffo the biggest chip shop in Liecester right ? Friendly staff. Well wrapped and paper bag. Not plastic which I like. Easy location to get to and parking was easy to find BUT I can at 4pm ish Decent portion size. Fish was massive and I’d say very fair priced compared to other places I’ve been Chips wernt the best as they wernt fresh but the fish was nice. Tad bit oily but very fresh. Tasty and batter was nice too. Keep up the good work guys

We called to order and collect it at lunch time and they had everything ready for us when we got there. The staff was lovely, the food tasted great, the portion was huge even though we just got a mini fish and chips meal. Now it's my favorite! The old man behind counter was so nice to me too, he made my day <3

Just been totally ripped off by this place. It's the absolute last time I go there. £4.40 for a large bag of chips and got barely what looks like a regular size... If that. The woman serving just gave me the dregs of what was left rather than waiting for more chips to be cooked. Such a shame because the chips are really nice. But come on give out proper portions for the price you are charging!!

Absolutely shocking experience this evening. Entered the shop that had NO customers, stood there for 5mins whilst girls chatting. Eventually got served an extremely SMALL portion of chips when I’d ordered a LARGE!!! She threw my change at me and carried on chatting!!! Never ever going here again! Chips were burnt and soggy!!!Worst chip shop in Leicester..AVIOD AVOID AVOID!!!!!!! Horrible service and burnt chips!!!!!!

Outstanding service, tasty fish and chips, the best I have ever had. Lovely fish and the oil used is good quality too. You don't get that extra heavy oiliness feel. Loved it !!

This used to be the best fish and chip shop in Leicester but after the slop we bought tonight I won’t be going there again. The fish was awful. The batter was greasy and soft and clearly it had been sitting there for quite a long time before it was passed on to us. The curry sauce was cold and the chips were disgusting. What has happened to what used to be one of the best?!

I suspect they're not on the shortlist for a Michelin star but that's ok as the chips were lovely as were the mushy peas. My cod was huge and certainly filled a hole. The service was spot on with both young lasses on the tills being helpful and offering sound advice on portion sizes etc.

This is a terrible place. The staff was rude. The food was not good by any means. Chips seemed they weren’t cooked long enough. The chicken was dry and hard. The battered sausage was flavourless. Next time I’ll stick to my local chippy instead of making a trip to “the best” .

Really good cod and chips. The lady asked me if I wanted to wait for a fresh piece of cod to be cooked. I, of course, prefer to wait and get it fresh from the fryer. Really nice service and food.

I took an Austrian work colleague here to the restaurant last night, fish and chips, bread and butter, mushy peas, curry sauce, and a cup of tea. Dinner of champions! It was all very nice.

Huge fish with chips, always fresh and tasty. Add mushy peas or curry sauce to top it off! Excellent value for money!

One of the best chip shops in Leicester shown by the length of queue that can be piling out the door at time, but I do recommend getting your chips open as when wrapped they seem to go all soggy and stick together open they stay lovely crispy as you would expect a good chip shop chips to be prices are a little steep though and the meal deals don't make sense works out cheaper to buy everything separate

Been coming here since childhood, this time wasn't too impressed, Potato's were different, portions were less and quite greasy. Felt sorry the girl who had to take the chips our the fryer into the serving pit looked really heavy and she is quite petite.

"line busy" trying to ring a place this big in 2023... Ridiculous. Either way, been here before, couldn't really find anything to be bothered about but at the time they did forget my drink as part of my meal deal. Easily done and relatively insignificant compared to the rest of the food. Their food is great when it's fresh, but customer service seemed to lack a little, and that's only intensified by their lack of a call queue. Seemed relatively lackluster inside, but could have changed by now, not that I'll find out because first impressions matter, and they've left two relatively disappointing ones now so I'll not be revisiting. I don't think that matters to them though, they don't even need to try to get customers. Everyone knows how undeniably good their food can be, and it's still worth a visit if you've not been.

The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy and tasty, and the chips were also excellent. The portions were generous and satisfying, making for a truly enjoyable meal. However, I did notice that the staff can be a bit hit and miss with friendliness. Some were very welcoming and cheerful, while others seemed a bit distant or uninterested. Nonetheless, this didn't take away from the overall great experience of eating here. I especially appreciated the quick service and the reasonable prices, which made it a great value for money. Overall, I highly recommend Grimsby Fisheries to anyone looking for some delicious fish and chips in a welcoming and authentic setting. It's definitely worth a visit!

As you can see I ordered great white shark and chips which was top notch. £10.50 a bit pricey but better than what you would find in most restaurants so happy to pay it.

Tasty food and good value for money. I liked that I could sit and eat on the premises. The other patrons were rude but that might be normal for Leicester

Oh my..used to love visiting my daughter and having "a grimsby".....sadly no more....staff are rude, miserable and avoid looking u in the eye for some reason - chips were hard, and my burger was wet, greasy and to be honest, tasteless. Not even a thank you. The one star is for its cleanliness, but won't be eating from there again.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here so things may have since changed. However, if I am to compare Grimsby to some of the competitors I’ve tried out there, then I must say Grimsby’s are absolute Titans when it comes to the local fish and chippy culinary field. I was first introduced to them in 2014, I was in my second year at the University at Leicester and the Mrs recommended us getting this. Boy did Grimbsy change the way I looked at your local chip shops. Because when I went back to London after graduating, Fish and chips just wasn’t the same. Anyway definitely recommend them from then, things could have changed now, who knows, but thought I’d share the view.

Lovely people cooking and service, quick service, has sit in seating area like a restaurant, the best thing is that it has gluten free fish, this maybe the only place I know in Leicester that has this option and they cook the chips in a separate fryer and not with the meat etc.

Good food, but service has gone down the chip pan. They used to have a very nice restaurant with good staff. Now you have to queue in the takeaway and take it to the 'seating area' which does not even have cutlery (I asked for a knife but they only have plastic forks now). Overflowing bins due to no staff in the seating area. I was told the seating area would have sauces and if it didn't then I should go back to the takeaway to get some, but now they charge for a little bit of ketchup. I know times are hard, but come on.

The best chip shop in Leicester. The biggest piece of fish in batter at grimsby fisheries than any where else I have been for fish. Pure Quality 10/10

Absolutely lovely and delicious fish and chips ! However , if you are not putting the food in a plastic bag then please be careful where you put it , i put it in my backpack and only had it in there for 1 or 2 hours but the oil seeped out of the the paper wrapping and the fish stink just wont go away!!! Ewww

First time getting fish and chips in the area and this place was recommended to us. It didn't disappoint us! Very tasty chips with a generous portion, nice size cod too and our dog enjoyed a sausage. Will definitely use again.
