This museum is called the new walk museum. it's situated in a Very historical part of this picturesque city. Entrance is free. It's well maintained and the structure of the building is a majestic blend of Old and New. It's not a large museum like that in London but yet a Nice to visit Place for anyone keen on such places.

This must be one of the best Museums in the country and it's free to enter. It's got a ton to see and do. There is everything from dinosaurs to Egyptian mummy's. And then some real fine art and crafts. When we visited there was the punk exhibition on and. It has so many cool costumes and artifacts from the 70s punk era. It truly is a must see if your a old school punk.

Really fantastic museum. Always find something new and different to look at. The Museum is free with donations encouraged. The dinosaurs and Egyptian area have some amazing displays to look at. It has something for everyone with displays for younger children so good place to visit for families. The displays and exhibitions are always changing so different artwork and items on display. Has a cafe inside with seating area serving sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks. Has a small shop.

Small but packed museum with bits and pieces of everything and interesting temporary exhibitions. Nice souvenir shop, great books to buy about Leicester. Cute cafe with beautiful seats and corners to sit in. The best way to see the exhibits, start from upstairs and make your way down. It’s open every day, for everyone, free of charge.

This is a completely free museum! And it’s open on Sundays There are a lot of parking spaces next to it, which is very convenient Although the museum is not big But offers a huge collection! And suitable for family tours First of all, you can see dinosaur fossils on the first floor! There is a giant dinosaur bone fossil in the middle of the exhibition hall. Children will definitely love it! When you walk in, you will see specimens introducing animals from all continents. Very interesting and lively! In addition, it also has an exhibition hall introducing the history of Leicester. Tells a lot about the local Indian ethnic groups and the development of leicester from ancient times to the present What surprises me the most is that I can actually see Minaoyin here! And it’s closer than the British Museum You can see their faces very clearly in the exhibit At the same time, feel what they were like when they were alive Of course, the museum also offers wonderful oil paintings Visitors can sit on the sofa and rest slowly Appreciate the beauty and detail of oil paintings carefully if you live nearby This is definitely a place worth coming to relax

Visited for the grew up in the 80s exhibition. Well put together with a lot of nostalgia and recognisable items for all ages. Museum in general still has its charm and even though the main exhibits haven’t had huge changes, bring back childhood memories! Arrived around 11:30 and wasn’t too busy for a Saturday.

I had a great time at the museum! There was a lot of diversity in the exhibits, which was great for my group because we all have different interests. The "I grew up 80s" was definitely a favorite though! I would highly recommend anyone to go here. We spent about 2 hours there and that was plenty of time to see everything and read many of the signs.

Overall really good as there is lots to study, learn and explore. They no longer have the cafe, it has been replaced with a not so great vending machine and coffee machine. There is a den room for children which is great for parents with small children.

Has great one off shows. Best collection of German expressionist art in the country. Is a little bit dated, but don't think it gets a lot of cash. Nice cafe and situation on New Walk, although New Walk is looking a little unloved lately. Free parking close by on a Sunday

Was very happy to see a small playroom which was perfect for my 1 year old. Lovely day out. Defo worth a visit. Plus its Free....

Good to know the fun facts of mummies and how to make it. It's a small museum, however, it has diverse exhibitions, such as dinosaur, ancient Egypt, art and galleries. It's free for entry.

We found this to be a little gem, the staff at the reception were so friendly and helpful. You could spend a good couple of hours here with art exhibitions from a good variety of moments and artists, some having a section to themselves. The museum side was very pleasantly surprising like the tardis it seemed to be so much bigger on the inside (we weren't able to go everywhere as some work was being carried out) there was some interactive pieces for the children like dressing up and so on. The only thing that took the shine off the visit was when we used the cafe the lady behind the counter came across as quite rude and I ordered a large drink (she gave me a large cup but only half filled it so was a waste of time asking for a large one)

It was a great experience; the Jurassic gallery was very thrilling, and there some interactive showcases which made it even more entertaining. The art gallery contained a well variety of paintings, both portraits and sceneries. There was a gallery dedicated to WW2 with the title of "thou shall not kill", which really made you think! The Egyptian section was very misty, with the red lighting and the mummies! The museum was quiet and not crowded at all.

The museum is just 5 min walk from the train station. We came from London to visit Leicester. The museum was our first stop. We visited the museum with our kids because of the dinosaur skeletons. We were pleasantly surprised to become part of an arts and crafts Diwali event, which the kids really enjoyed. The art gallery has some beautiful artworks worth seeing. There was also a temporary exhibition of pottery works by Picasso. There was a shop and a café which we didn’t visit. I would say that this is the right size of a museum and gallery so that kids don’t get too tired.

A great museum, especially considering the free admission. There are a number of great exhibits that kept me and my 5 year old son interested for most of a day. The highlights being the dinosaur and Ancient Egypt exhibits. It blew my son's mind that there are 4 actual mummies in the museum. The cafe is no longer open in the museum, however there are a number of cages close by. We went to the Kings Coffee House for lunch and would definitely recommend it.

For a free entrance you can't ask for too much. Interesting little place with a couple of fun facts to learn. As long as you don't expect too much out of it you will not be disappointed.

A beautifully maintained and presented space, with really helpful staff and very interesting exhibits. The archeological and the Egyptological sections were particularly fascinating. Hoping that people keep contributing to the fund so that this place continues to be free to enter.

A clean and vibrant museum to visit. Well spaced out and felt very maintained. A variety of different exhibits to visit. We did visit pride weekend so some areas more crowded to get into than others however they had a punk exhibit on which made my day :) highly recommended

Really good. Worth a family day out or just poodle around on your own. Went end of July 2023. FYI to staff there is a huge moth infestation destroying your dead animal display (for the life of me I can't think of the right word and I'm going to kick myself afterwards).

Return visit to the since-updated museum in Leicester after more than ten years. A medium-sized regional museum, more impressive than some. As usual, it covers a diverse collection of subjects, from Victorian paintings (a small but distinguished selection, permanent), artefacts from ancient Egypt, zoology items that help explain the wonders of the natural world, and - of course - a couple of dinosaur rooms. Plenty of stuff for the whole family, and you'll often find primary school classes here. On the ground floor, there's also a café and a museum shop (naturally), while the temporary exhibitions can be found on the upper level (lifts available). There were two ones during my visit, one of which was devoted to the "Punk" music and fashion scene of the 1970s, the other to (mostly) German expressionist art of the 1920s, including paintings of the "Brücke" and "Blauer Reiter" movements, which appealed to me more than the punk thingee. Anyway, Leicester Museum and Art Gallery is certainly worth a visit if you spend any amount of time in the city. Free entry, and photography is allowed even in the temporary exhibits.

The museum showcases a wide variety of travelling national museum exhibitions as well as items from the collections in its temporary displays. The venue is also available for private hiring and has a variety of activities including fascinating talks, kid-friendly handling sessions, lunchtime performances, and a licence for marriages and civil ceremonies. International and local exhibits of science, history, and art can be found at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. There is no admission charge. a truly amazing museum. Always look for anything fresh and new to observe. The Museum is free, while donations are preferred.

Really great exhibits, well laid out and I learnt so much. I wish I'd not left it so long to visit. Dr Neslyn sounds like a brilliant lady and my kind of woman: she was told she shouldn't and that just motivated her more. What an inspiration.

I really wish the cafe hadn’t gone. A vending machine just doesn’t cut it. The ancient Egyptian display has been brilliantly updated. There are some brilliant pieces in the permanent collection (Rodin, Degas, Bacon, the Picasso Ceramics Bequest) but sometimes pieces vanish without warning (on loan or in the stacks). The CG animation in the dinosaur room is really engaging for younger children, but I recommend avoiding busy times. I love this museum; and the entrance fee is relatively low. I have seen reviews calling entry “free” which isn’t quite true, as not paying the recommended entry fee, if you can afford it, means we risk losing the museum, or important parts of the collection having to be sold.

It's a great museum, spacious with many exhibitions. Nice coffee shop. Went for the Punk Exhibition, which was excellent. Could've put it on the ground floor though, for us old 'uns with dodgy knees :) Joking aside though, great place, lovely area. Highly recommended.

Very nice and incredibly informative, I always really enjoy coming here. I particularly love the animal and dinosaur area, I also now really like the new area that was about Leicester and the history. Although, that stuffed monkey still freaks me out to this day. There are frequent new areas, which i find really cool. Random note, I used to think when I was younger that the giraffe's body was underground, and that was why the head was only visible. I look back and laugh every time I go and see it. This awesome building has stuck with me, and I love it to pieces, even if I see the same stuff over and over.

Lots to see and learn. Free entry, as well as free parking. Lovely cafe with seating inside and out. I only popped in for a short time while waiting for my MOT to be carried out nearby, so hope to return soon. The "recent history of Leicester" exhibition was enlightening (who knew the longest running comedy festival was in Leicester?).

Hadn't visited for a few years and was so glad I made the trip. Several well executed updates and many of the quality exhibits I enjoyed in the past. The gallery included a wealth of exciting and diverse works. I will keep an eye on special exhibitions and keep telling others how great this place is. Very easy to find from town and the train station. Includes a shop, restaurant and facilities. Suitable for all ages (I took an older teenager who loved it).

4 grandchildren, daughter and myself. We Love this place, something different to see and learn each time we go. Not sure how it happens but we always manage to get a personalised insight (from a curator) into some of the exhibits. Busy in half term but still very enjoyable.

Love this museum, and have visited from being a toddler. Now sharing with my own grandchildren. It's a shame that in the animal exhibit it's dark, dingy, in need of a good clean and updating as most of the buttons don't work,

I have to give this place 5* because it is better than 4. It is very interesting but there are few staff to ask questions of. I think it is because it's a free museum and they staff it on donations. The layout seemed to be under reconstruction in the dinosaur bit and seemed a bit muddled where it wasn't laid out. I loved the earth history bit but I couldn't spend enough time on the day. Must revisit!

We travelled to Ninja Warrior for my sons birthday, and to fill our day, I stumbled across Leicester Museum. The site is free (with a suggested donation of £3) and we parked on the road at the side/back of the museum. We have a disabled badge so parking was free, but there is pay and display machines along the road. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much from the museum itself, only because it’s free and we did it on a whim, but we managed to spend around 90 minutes inside! I particularly enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit, the wild space exhibit (although this seemed to be very popular and so we didn’t spend too long in there unfortunately) and the ancient Egyptian exhibit. There is a cafe inside the museum and a small gift shop, offering a range of products, from toys and small gifts, upto expensive jewellery and minerals!

Revised 30/05/2023 Visted with my 6 year old. Space to leave trailer by main entrance. Lift for disabled and pram access. Interactive points were a big hit. Lots of microscopes are also a massive hit with my daughter. The gift shop was ok priced and was able to get something that didn't break the bank. Loved the classical music to listen to while looking at art. Lots of fun in the den. The museum itself is lovely, and I can't wait to take my 6 years old. However, I had a bad experience thanks to another guest. Guest became aggressive towards me for trying to take a photo. Raising his voice and being intimidating. "Don't take photos of my children" he said which I replied politely "I'm not I'm taking a photo of the musuem" which he replied "it's not a public place you can't just be taking photos" ... shocked as I wasn't even taking a photo with them in the background. I was trying to take a photo of flags on the ceiling. However, this man was putting his middle finger up at me. When I continued to try and take my photo, he stood in front of me, wss being threatening and abusive so I left in tears (as a single woman visiting alone, I didn't feel safe anymore) The museum had a great selection of displays, toilets, kids play den. Interactive displays. Free entry.
