A rare look inside St Mary de Castro Church thanks to heritage open Days. So beautiful. I love churches for the history and architecture and some of this building dates back to Norman times. Legend says Richard III would have both worshipped here and that his body rested here prior to its burial at Grey Friars. Recently refurbished (but still missing it's spire which was removed in 2014 when it became unsafe) volunteers on hand were helpful and informative.

Nice place and location yet sadly I can't say much for the people who take care of the church. Not the most amiable of people! Speaking as a volunteer organist who has been playing in most churches in Leicester since the age of six, the welcome I was given by a few members of the congregation wasn't much I can say. I was sat at the organ for probably less than ten minutes when someone came up to me being vwry brusque asking me questions as to why I was playing. There's a certain way of asking folk one has never met before and that way was definitely not used here. A fine old Porritt in need of attention but sadly for the people, I can safely say I shan't be attending any services again.

This church named ST Mary De Castro Church is a medieval origin where, the careful visitor can notice the arch clearly of Romanesque style;today this anglican place of worship has become the episcopal center of Leicester. The entire facade of the church was built at the time, within the confines of the castle. In 1950 it was recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO.In my opinion it is a beautiful and very quiet place and with its millenary history there can be a lot.In this pleasant place, families can spend moments of the true peace because this quiet corner can offer a silence.I would dare to say even if around this area the chaos of the modern day is fervent. To conclude this review, I must inform all lovers of music, that in different periods of the year many concerts are performed, worthy of being listened to.

Lovely historic place of worship, the services are done in what I would consider traditional Church of England style. Sadly this holy building is not supported by a large Christian congregational but, a small sincere group of laity and clergy. Multiculturalism, diversity and the gradual turning against Christianity along with the English losing their identity, all will add up to beautiful churches like this to further decline. Enjoy a visit to St, Mary de Castro church, you will enjoy the peace and history it offers, along with a spiritual and meditative belonging.

We came here as it was open to the public as part of the Heritage Sunday open days that Leicester currently run with several local venues to visit on the last Sunday of the month. This church is well worth the visit. It is huge and very beautiful and is almost as large as Leicester cathedral with a lot of history. We didn't have a guide but a kind local pointed out prominent features and told me a little of its history, gorgeous place.
