We visited Bradgate Park for the first time on April 9 2022 and have to say we were pleasantly surprised. I had been worried that its close proximity to Leicester might spoil the atmosphere somehow. As it turns out, Bradgate is a huge expanse of parkland with large areas of (enclosed) woodland. Parts were steep and rugged, like Dartmoor, and there's a folly on one hill and a war memorial on a nearby hill. It has an open, airy feel and the hills offer beautiful views across the countryside. Even the city doesn't look too bad from up there! As we walked we kept discovering new areas, it seemed never ending. Some of the ancient trees are amazing, and it was good to see deer still roaming as they would have done hundreds of years ago. Our main purpose, however, was to see the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, which was obviously a grand and beautiful place in its day. We were slightly disappointed that we couldn't go in the ruins (there was a sign saying something about deadly nightshade?) but it was time to be heading off anyway. For that reason, and the fact that the toilets at the car park (Newton Linford) were not clean or in good working condition, I'm only giving 4stars. Still, we'll definitely be returning to explore some more, as we haven't seen it all and want to try the tea room.

Beautiful place, caught on the off chance of looking for places to go. Its a 20 mile drive from us yet we've travelled further for less of a view or walk. Absolutely stunning place. Definitely going again with a all day ticket. The deers were a added plus I loved seeing them that close very human friendly but didn't want to get to close to them as of course it is there land not ours

I love this place. I discovered it the day I visited and it was a really enjoyable visit. Seeing the beautiful wildlife roaming free was great. I took my DSLR camera with me, and I'm so glad I did. I'd recommend this place to anyone who loves the outdoors and wildlife. Even those who enjoy photography!

Wow what a beautiful area! Not to much of a drive from the city centre. About 30 mins Didnโ€™t think places like this existed around here always an absolute pleasure when I find them There are deers roaming free too Came here on a very hot day so would like to come back when itโ€™s cooler to explore more as we could see castle ruins in the distance There is a lake. A cafe where we stopped for a bite to eat. Toilets which were terrible but this is often the case. Deffo worth drive to come see the stunning views

Always a great place to visit for a walk, can get busy at the weekends. Some great cafes in Newtown Lindford or you can use the deer barn in the park itself. The new parking barriers make paying mush easier.

Love this place. Excellent place to go with the kids and dog and get some energy off while exploring the the wildlife with fields of deer, brook with swans/ ducks and learning the history of lady grey and exploring the ruins. Love the little shop with ice creams and various hot and cold snacks. There's also a cool little museum with educational aspects. Overall very good

It's such a beautiful park, and it's a really lovely walk through Bradgate Park. Went to the ruins of Bradgate House also. This was actually my first time at Bradgate Park - it's definitely a national treasure. There is a visitors centre offering ice creams, bagels, waffles and hot drinks. I'm not sure about dairy free versions of anything, so it's probably best to take your own so as not to be disappointed. Reasonable prices and lots of parking.

Great place to grab some air. Try and keep an eye open, some areas insist your dog is on a lead because of deer roaming free. Great to visit outside of the weekend to avoid the bustle. Definitely somewhere to visit.

Iโ€™ve wanted to visit Bradgate Park for a while. Well today I was able to visit. I parked at Cropston Cark Park. Parking is ยฃ3.30 for 3 hours or ยฃ4.50 all day. It is much better to go for the all day option. You may think you wont need it but it is absolutely huge and time goes before you know it. Thereโ€™s so much to see!!! A flat path walk from the car park, wheelchair friendly, clean, neat and tidy with a cafe not too far from the car park. We walked along the path, past the ruins of the house and up the hill to Old John Tower. It is not too far, but the incline can be a struggle for some. Coming down doesnโ€™t take too long at all, but going up may be difficult. Not Wheel chair friendly however. A great walk. Very enjoyable. There is a lot to see at Bradgate Park. Our route took us around 2.5 hours. Definitely worth a visit to Bradgate Park.

Visited for the first time. Absolutely gorgeous park, I was in complete awe of all the deer. Itโ€™s a relatively flat walk around the lake and to the cafe however, does get rockier and steeper as you go up to Old John. Options to paddle in the stream and lots of open space to play some games. Suitable for families.

Car park was easy to use and well maintained - you pay on exit. Main path is crowded at busy times but off that there are quieter tracks to walk. The little stream is great for kids and there are also plenty of rocks to scale. We visited the ruins of Bradgate House which were staffed by a knowledgeable guide. There is only one small chapel remaining with a display about the house. (The ruins are free to visit) Toilets are available at various locations and were reasonably clean. A good place to visit if you are wanting somewhere close to the M1 too.

Easily the best outdoor place you can visit in Leicestershire for free (if you don't count paying for parking , but it does go to the upkeep). Miles and miles of tracks and trails through some quintessentially English countryside with free range deer mooching about and the odd peacock. For those who prefer a solid path there is a nice wide path that runs through , buggy and wheelchair suitable. Cafe does decent coffee and cake. In summary . It's beautiful you should visit

Beautiful and vast park with stunning views and plenty of wildlife. You won't have to walk far to spot the park's hundred of red and fallow deer. Walking up to Old John Tower will give you a stunning vista across the whole park. Great to see the deer at sunrise or sunset if you can and the best time of year to visit is late September into late October during rutting season. Plenty of parking although it can get busy on weekends especially around midday. Pay and display has now been replaced with an ANPR system so you just park up and pay before you leave using your vehicle reg number. Payment is by cash or card.

Wonderful place to visit. Nice walk along the paved track or you can go off through the hills for lots of dramatic views! There is a place to stop for toilets or food half way down the paved track which is very useful. If youโ€™re lucky you will spot some deer!

Great place to visit - lots of space for a picnic, plenty of hills to climb, the ruins of an old Tudor manor house (Lady Jane Grey's childhood home), a cafe and a tearoom (we didn't visit either so can't comment much on that) and parking on-site which can be paid for either by card/cash. The only negative was the toilets which while present are rather basic and could do with better maintenance and cleaning (I took a star off for that). BUT a very enjoyable day altogether and we cannot wait to return!

Lovely day out for families, lots of space for children to play, climb trees/rocks, kite flying and even play in the river/water bed. Bringing a picnic will benefit and make the day more enjoyable if planning a long day out. Great for photography, Deer roam free but please be careful and leave them in peace and keep dogs on leads. On-Site cafe with waffles, coffee, tea and soft drinks next to a reservoir to enjoy on nice warm summers day and also you get great views of Leicester and surrounding countryside. Definitely recommend 10/10

What better place to mourn the passing of Britain's longest reigning queen than the ancestral family home of Britain's shortest reigning queen. Bradgate Park is somewhere I haven't visited in 20 years so imagine my delight to find it utterly unchanged. Rugged natural landscapes, intriguing historical sites, deer everywhere, views to kill (or at least stun) - scarcely has a country park ever made me feel so much like I am walking in history. A lovely spot, well-maintained, and ripe for a walk!

Wonderful park, we had a great day out pretty much walking for hours, climbing on rocks, picking up sticks, crossing streams, watching animals - a whole day of adventure. It was quite busy, but when in the park you couldnโ€™t really tell. We had a spot of lunch at the cafe next to the car park. It had a good choice of food and wasnโ€™t expensive. I enjoyed a Cornish pasty that was really nice. We tried to get back to garb an ice cream, but didnโ€™t realize it shut at 4pm on Thursday. The staff/volunteers at the tower were super informative and it was well worth the climb to the top. Beautiful views from the summit. Totally advise going here. Car park was ยฃ3.50 for the day, pay by card at the exit. Plenty of spaces available.

Honestly this place is just so great. Therexis so much wildlife and it makes your day when you see the grand deer. All dogs have to be on leads because of the deer and stags there but it is still amazing to go on a walk there. There are lots of monuments and lady Jane greys manor which you can sometimes go in.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit all year round for a good healthy ramble. It's our favourite special place, we usually go the horse trail route up to the memorial and then onto the old john, down past the pond then up and down to a secluded river then towards the main path that runs past a cafe, museum, ruiens and stream/waterfall towards the entrance. It's a good 5-6 miles walk with beautiful scenery & wildlife. What ever way you go it's a great pleasure.

Lovely park. Paths for all abilities. Multiple car parks, the two we have tried both had toilet facilities and parking wasnโ€™t too expensive. All the staff that we met were very friendly. Facilities are great, lovely and clean serving superb coffee and cake.

A beautifully looked after area with an abundance of ancient and veteran trees. These provide complex and irreplaceable habitats for threatened species. This is a place for a brisk walk or the opportunity to escape for a little quiet contemplation.

This is a beautiful place but parking is a nightmare. So many people out walking with/ without dogs, running, children riding bikes. Love the cafe at the main entrance. Staff were friendly and helpful as was the assistant in the Barn, where a variety of venison is available at a reasonable price.

  • 5/5 Jan L. 7 months ago on Google
It was a lovely walk from the entrance to the Deer Barn. We saw plenty of deer in different places, and managed to take some photos of them. There were lots of families having a picnic and children playing in the river and on the rocks formations, lots of dog walkers as well. I was pleased to see that the cafรฉs had bowls of water out. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic place to explore. Great walking among the trees & open moorland - spotting deer. And if you like a bit of history, Bradgate House is definitely worth a look

Very wet weather so we couldn't see any deers, but the park is clean and the ruins made it such a romantic place to be in a rainy day. We will have to come again when the weather is better, to explore more. The parking is very large and the toilets are just at the entrance. A bit dark, but very clean.

I had a lovely wander around Bradgate Park today, it was actually geocaching that brought me here, there are a couple of traditional caches and a set of Adventure Labs. Itโ€™s a big park to walk round and there are some quite steep hills if you visit the Leicestershire Yeomanry War Memorial and Old John Tower. There are lots of deer to see and lovely trails to walk if you venture further off the main paths. Cycling is only permitted on the main path that runs from Newton Linford car park past Bradgate House ruins, the Deer Hut visitor centre to the Roecliffe Road car park near Crompton Reservoir. When I visited it was a lovely sunny midweek day during the summer school holidays and the busiest areas were all along the above mentioned main path, it looked great for families with children, picnics beside the stream, but too many people for me. But donโ€™t let that stop you from visiting, it really is worth going.

I've been coming here since I was a baby (a very long time!!), it's one of the most beautiful places. There is a stream running through that is clear and very shallow in places, Ideal for children and dogs to cool off. There is a large herd of deer which roam around. There are walks for people of all abilities, from the fairly flat tarmacked road that runs all the way through, to the more challenging hill paths for those that feel more adventurous. The perfect place for families, walkers, sightseers and those that want to escape and enjoy some peace and tranquility. There is also history to explore in the ruins of the house where Lady Jane Grey lived. It's MAGNIFICENT!!!

One of our favourite places to visit in Leicester. So much open space with amazing views and deer running free. A truly magical place to unwind for a few hours, with so many walking routes on offer. The car parks are reasonably priced and situated at key locations around the park. Nice tea rooms located near the main carpark, opposite the church. Very clean facilities to if your caught short. If your lucky you can catch many plays on offer in the summer.

Went on New year's Eve 2020 - place was covered in a dusting of snow. I was thoroughly impressed with the unexpected but beautiful rock formations which I enjoyed climbing on. Came with my 80 year old nan and it was challenging for her in the snow but not too bad for an active person such as herself even at her age. The memorial and the tower are both a short walk from each other and the car park. Recommended
