Shower not working, awful smell in the bedroom, either really cold or awfully hot water in the sink, bed quite comfortable, no hairdryer even though said there will be one. 2 stars only because of good location (near railway station and close to city centre, walking distance) and the fact that i could leave my luggage after my stay and come back in the evening. Generally clean but i wouldn't recommend unless it is a one night stay and you don't mind no water at all in the shower.

I usually cringe when I see a young person at the front desk of eny establishment. However, I soon changed my mind when I began to interact with the young man who kindly and politely attended to my needs during my stay. He made sure that I was comfortable, and that everything was to my delight. He made time to converse with me seeing I was on my own. I would engage him in various subjects and as a young man he was very informed, and polite. My stay at Grafton House is usually trouble free, however, this young man added a lot of flavour to my stay because he was professional yet friendly.

Letter to Management of Grafton house: Last night my boyfriend and I booked 2 nights for Valentines day. We don't smoke, we don't drink; we're weren't smoking or drinking in the hotel room. The way you treated him was quite horrific- he's a sensitive soul... You made him leave without warning because he had a mini plugin heater in the room! When you asked what the smoke was, I was honest; I spoke and acted with sincerity and honesty, moreover integrity. Having a plugin heater is an innocent mistake, and not something that warrants such unkind and immoral treatment. You kicked him out late at night! It was Valentine's Day...?! I just want to publically share that this was very cruel and unkind. My boyfriend is from Ghana, he finds England incredibly cold. He is also a very sensitive soul and was INNOCENT in this situation. Quite simply, this was horrific treatment. Your husband- the male manager, played on a young man being scared of him. Getting a kick off of someone's fear is NOT ok. I will be taking action on his behalf. Grace Gabriella" To anyone reading this, you should know that we were a really genuine and normal young couple who didn't break any of their rules. Management acted completely menacing- unkind, immoral, and possibly illegally too. They made my boyfriend homeless in the middle of the night because they were (quite clearly/as reality shows) having a terrible Valentine's Day. Heartless, spiteful, malicious...!!! I am a woman with a career and a lot of advanced communication and social skills. I couldn't have handled the situation any more mindfully, justly, or integrity-full. Or HONESTLY. Shame on the couple running Grafton House! They are full of hatred and spite, the woman "almost" acted like a decent and moral human, but her husband's anger was too over-powering. He intimidated me, and I am a passive and gentle little woman! This was disgusting treatment. Truly disgusting.

About what I expected. Cost me £25 for one night. Cant be many rooms in the country cheaper than that. Pretty clean really. No insects. Very old. Very basic. My only issue are the doors block out zero noise and people coming and going woke me up very early. Oh an extra pillow would be nice.

Stayed with Grafton House for two weeks until i got my own accommodation. The manager is the kindest person I've met so far.. He was so caring and concerned about me and family throughout my stay. Highly recommend this place as it is off london road and near to the city centre and easily accessible to bus stops, shops, etc.

Mattress was a bit uncomfortable as some of the springs were close to coming through meaning they were digging in. Free WiFi provided and tea and coffee available most of the day but no meals catered for so had no option of an included breakfast. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Honestly just a bit meh, but you get what you pay for... Guess I'm just not used to city prices... truthfully I wouldn't recommend I've stayed in higher class hostels....

I was spending the weekend with my friend and travelling by motorbike. I was worried about leaving my bike on the street so I rang in the morning and they assured me there would be somewhere secure for me to leave my bike. Sure enough, upon arrival the guy was waiting for me with the gate open to park my bike behind the hostel. He took me through to the reception and although I did not eat or drink, the hostel was very cosy, quiet and everything in the city was easily accessible on foot. For the price the room was spacious, well equipped with a tv and sink, clean and comfy. When I checked out they let me leave my luggage, leathers and bike gear for hours while I had lunch. Outstanding service, excellent value for money. Would recommend and would stay again.

Parking "facilities" = street parking. TV was too small in comparison to the excessively large room.

Great value rooms and handy location for the main shopping area near the cathedral. The couple who own and run this do a brilliant job and are super friendly.

Very clean & tidy. Lovely owner. We had a queen sized bed which was awesome. Have stayed there twice now & will stay there again for sure.

We booked a room for tonight but the time slot was set wrong. They wouldn’t let us change it and when we asked for a refund, they refused. Cheaters.

Staff are friendly, the parking is on the path by the side of the road and there appeared to only be one shower/toilet to many rooms, sadly the window was also broken in my room but I'm sure it was temporary and there was a sink in the room and they were happy to provide unlimited tea or coffee.

The room was very clean, but the bed was a let down, I couldn't sleep, the mattress was bumpy. They do not serve breakfast, otherwise very clean and quiet.

Enjoyed my stay with the friendly owners who put up with me oversleeping. Very kind owners of a basic but clean place. Would have added a night but was full. Offered free coffee on arrival and in the morning. Thank you!

Service and staff great. The room was very clean and nice, although I did miss to have a desk in the room. Although on the front door said "Bed and breakfast" the breakfast was not.included as the staff informed, but they offer you coffee anytime.

Even at £46 this was the most budget hotel of my life. No breakfast as advertised yet no price reduction offered. Massive climb to second floor, ultra spartan room with no tea or coffee, no wash basin plug for the very hot water, not even a plastic beaker for a glass of water. Bed and two chairs and TV, that's it. The bed was very comfortable at least. But I'll not go again.

Always a pleasure to stay here. Rooms are adequate. Staff are always friendly and the place is warm. Need to poor some Mr muscle down the drains in the showers as they clog up occasionally. Apart from this I have no other problems. I would happily stay here again.

Stayed for one night, the bed was comfy such an spacious room with no wardrobe or tea/coffee making facilities in t room, no bedside table either. Tea or coffee can be served from the kitchen upon request.

Very simple and cheap accommodation. Only a bed in room. There was an small TV that half of the channels couldn't be played because of bad signal. No fridge. Share toilets and bathrooms. However, the room and bed were cleaned. Parking off street in front of hotel. Around hotel I found plenty of restaurants. There was a Tesco supermarket 3 min walk from the hotels.

Bed and pillows were v uncomfortable. People coming in and out of the room next to us all night. There were stains on the ceiling. Shower was actually so loud that we couldn’t have one at night as to not wake everyone up. We only got two towels and when I went to ask for more, the lady at the desk was hesitant to give me one- I literally had to justify having an extra towel. Genuinely one of the worst places I stayed at.

The room was so cold and the heater was off whole night, beds doesnt even have a bedside table or the a switch or plug near the bed. The cleaner in the morning asked for the keys for checking out as I opened the door she walked straight in asking that we used air freshner and watching who was in The room. The receptionist was kind and gentle, rest of the service was really poor.
