This is the higher of the two peaks at the Crowders Mountain State Park, and like the other one, this has some gorgeous views! Just keep in mind that the excellent viewing spots are not the absolute top. You can keep climbing up and up and up for what seems like quite a while, and when you reach a flat platform with a metal pole on it, you're at the absolute top!

Awesome hike, great veiws. I couldn't believe it's so close to Charlotte. It took us 4 hours because we hung out on the peak for a while. On a weekday, there weren't very many folks hiking, so it was great.

It's is a good feeling to be at the top, seeing all the beautiful view of nature after you push yourself to be at the top. Recommend to go when it's chill and sunny morning. Be cautious when you pass over the warning sign because there is no guard at the Pinnacle. Good for hiking and camping👍

This is well worth the hike up! I always pack a hammock, extra water, and usually a snack or meal just so I can spend a good bit of time here. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles.

Pretty stunning views! I like how there are multiple ways to ascend the mountain - the backside trail is steep and steadily climbs and the tower trail is a bit more gradual but then to reach the pinnacle you must navigate a small portion of the ridge trail which is rocky but doable. Very fun!

This was a great hike. I enjoyed that it was challenging and it was a really nice length. I would be mindful if you have any trouble walking. Also- please wear appropriate shoes! We went the first weekend in November, and I was surprised how busy this trail was. There were people everywhere! Once you get to the top, cross the warning sign, and you will see these amazing views. If you keep going you will be able to also see Charlotte! Past the main landing point, you lose most of the crowds. I would recommend this hike!

This is a great place for hiking. With 11 different trails to choose from I highly recommend the Pinnacle trail. It was tough, hilly, with several rocks and boulders. It's an hour up the trail and an hour down without stopping. I really had to push myself but glad I did because I made it to the top. Next time I visit, I'll probably do a less strenuous trail.

Well marked trail, most of the trail is a wide rocky path. Towards the top there are a few sets of narrrow rock steps that are pretty steep. Moderate path with a steady incline most of the way. We went on a Saturday in late October and there were lots of people on the path but not overly crowded. There are 3 main Overlook spots at the top for pictures and views!

The Pinnacle is one of my favorite trails in the area, the scenery ranges from wooded forest at the visitors center to an almost desert ambiance at the top of the rock. The views are stunning and there are plenty of places to sit and take it all in. I will say this trail isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s gets increasingly difficult as the elevation rises. Make sure to bring water, a snack and to hike it at your own pace. If you need to stop and rest, do it. It’s all worth it once you get to the top!

We usually do the crowders hike, it’s about 6 miles. That was a little too much for me this time around so we tried the Pinnacle trail. It’s 4 miles and no where near as steep as crowders trail. Very doable and nice views!

Crowder's Mountain was is a good hike. About 2 hours round trip from the visitors center. Beautiful overlook and a rigorous workout.

The overlook is amazing specially in fall season. It gives a glimpsed of the Appalachian mountains, and some near cities. It is a little bit crowded durning weekend days.

Great hike up. Well marked with multiple maps along the way. It was very heavily trafficked the day we went, but it was just a beautiful view from the top.

It was a beautiful day with clear skies. We were able to see for miles. Our 6 and 7 year olds made it to the top fairly easily with few breaks. The view is breathtaking.

Great hike but lots of roots and rocks on the way. The last part is stairs o climbing, cool. The view is great. But super popular place.

Took my family of 8 up this trail and it took us 1.5-2 hours to get the the top. From the top, you can see both charlotte and the Appalachian mountains. Saw lots of young kids and older folks on the trail.

30 minutes from Charlotte, and the highest peak in Gaston County. About a 2 mile fairly strenuous hike, but what a beautiful view from the peak.

Great hike through a beautiful forest to a stunning and peaceful overlook. Gets busy during weekends, but not overwhelmingly so, and there's usually plenty of parking regardless. The trail becomes quite rocky at the top and even requires some mild bouldering if you skip the pet-friendly route, so be sure to wear good shoes. A short spur trail marked by chalk arrows leads from the main overlook to the summit of the Pinnacle.

If I remember correctly it's about an 800-foot rise from the parking lot to the Pinnacle. I took the shorter trail from the closest parking lot. The last segment when you get on the east side is the steepest. It is still just a walking trail but if you're not in the best shape plan on taking your time. when you get up to the top of the trail there's an easy to climb rock face that puts you on top of the mountain. Do it. Trust me, this is what you came all this way for. Once you are on top there's an open flat area where most people stop and hang out. Go to the right it rises up a little bit more and there you will find a post that marks the highest spot. Bring a backpack and put a six-pack of water in it. if you are really into it you should put some food in it too and have a bite to eat once you are on top.

Beautiful view. The climb up is moderate, and easier if you use the Turnback trail.

Perfect close to Charlotte hike with elevation good views of the Appalachian mountain escarpment to the West and Charlotte skyline to the east.

This trail was the perfect difficulty level for me. Not too easy, but just the amount of challenge that I enjoy when going on a hike. The amazing views at the end of the hike made it even more worth it!

  • 5/5 Justin B. 5 years ago on Google
The hike was a workout. Definitely come down to this overlook - not many do, as they just stay at the main pinnacle peak. Way less crowded at the overlook. Worth it. One you get to the top of pinnacle where all the people will be, hang a right and hike along the top of the ridge maybe 100 more yards. Good view of Crowders and the city down there too
