Nice cosy place to stop after a long drive up the pass. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, slightly disappointed that their pizza and milk for coffee was out , but the toasties were pretty good. Drinks were great and worth the stop for the brilliant view

Highest pub and lodge in Africa. The views from the deck are amazing if it's not raining and misty. The road up there is difficult. Can't be done without a 4x4. Watch out for taxis coming down the pass. Slippery when raining. We went up with very experienced guides. You need your passport for border control. Guides are there to assist. I've been there when the sun shone and again when it was very cold and raining. The log fires inside kept everyone warm and toasty. Guided tours take you to the village where you meet the locals. Enjoy some homemade bread and buy some Lesotho 🇱🇸 curios. People are very friendly. Beautiful proteas on the way up. We stopped a few times for 📸 photos. And of course we crossed into a World Heritage site. . I don't drink but you can try their Maluti beer in the Pub. Meals in the pub were 😋 delicious - basotho style..

After riding up the Sani Pass and taking a beer or two at the highest pub, you may not want to ride further than here. Sani Mountain lodge was our home for two nights. Nice big and comfortable cabanas with gas heating, hot shower and great parking right outside your cabana. Breakfast is included. They have a small restaurant. You can camp or park your rig there for a small fee. Would not recommend camping or sleeping in the car during winter. Lesotho has crazy winters and winds. It was very cold when we were there. We found great and helpful staff.

The trip up Sani Pass is always exciting and an adventure. HOWEVER, the food was under par, far too expensive for the extremely small servings and very slack service. A few years ago the quality, portions and prices were great. Sani Pub somehow has lost its charm.

Food was good but not great, definitely a sweet experience to enjoy a meal and a beer in the highest pub of Africa ! We didn’t have a chance with visibility that day when we did the Sani Pass but at least we had the chance to discover a new country and a cosy spot.

Even though I’m not quite convinced that this is (still) the highest pub in Africa, it still has a nice ring to it. Great place to stop over for a beer and/or snack. They charge a R50pp fee to enter, but you get a credit for this amount at the bar - totally worth it. The views are breathtaking!

It's a very interesting place to stay. Get to see the nature has to offer. But the service is okay but not really explaining the price of different logging clearly. I suggest in the lodge to have at the least a kettle of hot water. Not even a lamp! Then the second night I change to the Backpacker lodge. It's 700m away from the reception and dining room. After dinner walking your way back your room in the dark not good (if you have paid for dinner). I must say there is a good kitchen in the backpacker lodge. Also a living room with a fireplace. But no fire. In any room even the most expensive one I got good Wi-Fi. But if you are in the main building there is Wi-Fi! The high price for a dorm but have electric until 22:00! Why not until midnight. Also have no fire in the chimney in the living room. How come?

Backpackers rooms were acceptable but there was no water apparently because of the cold but the pipes in the bathrooms are not connected. There are better lodges for more reasonable prices. Rather avoid.

Where to start.... they gave us wrong information how to get up there. We ended up missing the reservation because they told us we could just park at the border and take a taxi from there. Now I've spent 5 months trying to get our money back for their mistake, and they continue to ask for my BANK ACCOUNT AND ROUTING NUMBER instead of refunding to my card, and say that they are unsure why I'm uncomfortable providing this information via text. December 28 update: provided them all of my banking details months ago and am still waiting on rhe refund, no one will respond. Dealing with this business is a nightmare.

Was a bucket list thing to do and it didn’t disappoint! Amazing drive up the mountain pass and just such a beautiful winter adventure in the snow as we drove further into Lesotho. The pub was also great.

(Translated by Google) The food in the highest pub in South Africa was delicious for me: the lamb stew was really fresh and had a very good taste. Top!! My husband had ordered wraps with roast beef, it was beef (unfortunately with cartilage) in it, but no roast beef. Locals played music in front of the terrace with a view of the mountains, great atmosphere!

Excellent location and friendly staff. Beware the cold nights, when the fireplace doesn't work and electricity goes out. Overall very expensive, and beware their cancellation policy which requires 30 days notice for refund. I tried to change our booked dates and had to absorb $250 with no grace. Management are very rude, unaccommodating and don't appear to value their clientele.

Great place, I’ve been all over the world and this has some of the best views I’ve ever experienced, looking down the Sani Pass from the top really makes you appreciate the earth. The food and drink were both delicious and a very reasonable price, it would be easy for them to charge a premium to tourists but they didn’t at all. All the staff were native Basotho people but they all had great English

We stayed here after a long journey down from the South-African plains below. It offers some great views from up top. Although it might seem warm it can be very windy and cold outside. It has a nice pub and local restaurant so be sure to check it out. Not expensive to stay here.

Love this place! Lodge is on your right immediately when you pass through customs on lesotho's side, from Sani Pass. Highest pub in Africa with the most delicious pizzas. Glass of dry red wine is R35. Maluti - locally brewed beer for sale at restaurant - R45 for 500ml can. Staff are super friendly. Nice and warm inside the restaurant. Will definitely come again.

The staff, food and Superior Rondavels (where I stayed) are great. Everywhere is very comfy and warm. The rooms are quite pricey but the overall experience, especially as a result of the excellent staff is good.

Amazing lodge, people and atmosphere. The food is good, the drinks (and the included sherry in the room) are great, and the views (if the weather is nice) are amazing. Bring something warm, since the wind is strong and even in the summer, the temperatures can get close to freezing at night.

The hotel's location is incredible and a must stop for a drink or meal for any day trip up Sani Pass, but unfortunately the hotel seems to have taken advantage of this status by turning the restaurant into what is effectively a tourist trap. The food was well below average and incredibly expensive for what it was. It also took nearly an hour for our (very basic) meals to arrive. The food was well below average and massively overpriced. R100 for a bowl of packet soup (as in soup made from powder from a packet), R105 for a very small, previously frozen supermarket pie and a small portion of undercooked chips and R100 for very basic toasted sandwiches and a small portion of likewise undercooked chips. It also took nearly an hour for the food to arrive. Drinks were also very expensive. Stop for a (expensive) beer or glass of wine, but I definitely wouldn't recommend more than that.

This place is wonderful! It feels much like a traditional pub you’d find in the English countryside (except beers are all in bottles), but with the incredible views looking east from the top of Sani Pass. The minestrone was delicious, as was the hearty bread we got with it. Do keep in mind that the food is first come, first served, so if you arrive later on a busy day, you might not have much (or any?) choice regarding what to eat. We were there in July, so it wasn’t warm enough to sit outside, but that would have been amazing in spring or fall! Paths just outside lead out to a spot where you can straddle the line between South Africa and Lesotho — fun pictures— and to sweeping views east into South Africa. This was a truly fun experience that topped off our day trip up to Sani Pass from Underberg. I’ll never forget it.

Magnificent views. Great atmosphere. Lesotho is one of those places where you can forget about all the realities. The mountains are overwhelming and neverending. Driving Sani Pass can be nerve wrecking. Great to experience old ways and traditions.

📍The Highest Pub in Africa We went to the pub for some drinks. The views were amaziiiing!⛰️. Atmosphere is great and staff is friendly. Great place to stop by on your adventure. Highly recommend to go up there and experience the beautiful views.

Trip up Sani Pass is always a wonderful experience. The views from the Sani Mountain Pub and restaurant never dissappoints. Sadly, I found the restaurant needing some TLC , the food not great , under par for the prices and yesterday whatever i ordered was not available. This one stop experience at the top of Sani Pass has lost its charm . I Know times are tough but i thought that seeing this is one of the border posts going into Lesotho surely either the border post or the Sani Mountain Lodge should have information on Lesotho for travellers going further on. Saying that, I will be back though for the trip and VIEW.

Love it here, staff great, rooms comfortable, stayed at the backpackers this time which was fine, just ran out of water through the night, we were off early in the morning so don't know when and if it came on. Slept warm and well, before the long drive back to Joburg.

Lovely location and rooms. Good meal in the restaurant too. Lovely bottle of wine. Problems with lighting the fire as wood was too wet but staff kept working at it.

World-class service, top notch menu. Fantastic friendly staff. Management went beyond the call to ensure everyone was attended to as best as possible. They had the TV on showing the Springboks playing France. Such a fantastic vibe ... Great great place... #bucketlist done and dusted My parents 93 and 95 years old were looked after from the moment they left our RAV4 and back.

How it still lays claim to being the highest pub in Africa is dubious as Afriski has a pub that is higher I'm told. Anyway, its still an iconic stop for one of the most expensive beers in Africa, and still has breathtaking views over the pass.

We only tried the restaurant and bar. The food was ok, nothing very special or common to the region. The 'Maluti' beer was much better, big and cool and from Lesotho! The way to the restaurant is the challenge....

We stayed at the backpackers lodge at Sani mountain lodge, I must admit it was really not a good experience for me, the beds were worn out, thw showers ran out of water early in the evening and while I was looking for water they switched the generator of without any warning. The pub and restaurant was pretty well apointed although the kitchen staff seemed like it was an effort for them to serve you. The reception and bar staff were very helpfull though. If you stay here stay in one of the chalets not the backpackers.

Went up sani pass for a day trip (15/09/2019) to see what the pass was like.We had coffee at the lodge and was great.would be nice if there was a rail and cement platform behind the hotel where people can take some cool pics ,it's a bit scary to stand so close to the edge with no safety barrier .Other then that the hotel is nice just not much to do there.one thing is alcohol is quite expensive there for south africans .over all good place

5 stars for the location and view 5 stars for the staff kindness 4 stars for the generous food buffet dinner and breakfast (included in the price) 2,5 stars because a bit overpriced: rondavel comfortable do miss some basics (bedside lamp, complete wall separation between room and bathroom, ceiling light white hospital shade). But nice fireplace and beds. All gathered close to each other, no view while the surroundings are vast and marvelious. Also paying 200$/night but not providing maps for hiking.... lunch pack was a disaster 10$ for plastic sandwich, can soda and water :( but Lesotho has good vegs and meat very cheap All in all try their backpacker option which is really nice if you bring your own food, buildings are clean and comfortable, just enjoy their pub for the Sani Pass view
