Nice zoo, we spent a full day on a Sunday. It's massive on extension so be prepare to walk a lot. Some animals are difficult to see, we struggled to see with bears, cheetah died so no cheetah. There are tables for picnic so better to take your own food. Missing some other animals such as snakes, insects, that will be nice to see too

Whipsnade Zoo is a really brilliant place to spend a day, lots to see and do. Highly recommend a visit. I went on the Elephant experience which was superb again highly recommend booking this informative experience especially if you love Elephants like I do. We opted to pay for driving the car around which was great and made getting around so easy especially for people with mobility issues as it is a big place to walk around with so much to see that having the car really helped. The views around the Zoo are beautiful. If you want a fun and interesting day out go to the Zoo. A baby elephant due anytime so that will be lovely to see when baby arrives.

This is the best zoo I've ever visited. We took 2 young children and they loved it. Be prepared to do a lot of walking - but it is well worth it. So many animals to see, it's a job to fit it all in. All facilities were clean and tidy, as was the whole site. I recommend paying the extra to take your car in - it allows you to drive around the deer park, which was fantastic. The bird show is not to be missed.

Set in 600 acres! This place is massive! Amazing day out, pack a lunch/drinks as food places are few and far between but the outdoor areas warrant a picnic in the glorious surroundings. I wouldn't pay the extra to park directly site(unless you aren't so able bodied) as you won't experience the full benefit of the wide open space and may miss a few of the animals.

This would have earned 5 stars from me but loses one for my visit due to unfavourable weather and some areas closed. The site is huge, you could spend a whole day walking to get round every Zone. It's nice to see animals in enclosures, not cages, ethically scores well. On a fine day, the east side would give you fine views across the Downs, the areas around the Penguin enclosure and River cottage in particular have great views. Plenty of picnic tables dotted around the site, but would advise bringing your own food as catering quite expensive. Perhaps my favourite enclosure today was the giraffe enclosure as I was able to see them quite close. Bring good walking shoes and also a good zoom camera if you want close ups of the animals as, given the size of the enclosures, they can be some distance away. I would go again, but next Spring in better weather and hopefully with everything open.

We have an annual membership and under 3s go free. Animals appear to be looked after which is hugely important and hope that continues as a priority. Open most of the year and lots to see and do. You can pay extra to drive through but we prefer to leave the car (large free car park) and walk. For youngsters you might want to take a buggy/scooter as there is a LOT of walking. Zoo is divided up into various continents according to where the animals are from. The elephants, penguins and giraffes are amongst our favourite to visit. Especially lovely when they you see the animals up close via the indoor enclosures with screen, like the zebras. There is also a butterfly house and aquarium, a little farm and indoor soft play for children. A huge outdoor playground for young children from toddler age to much older children with plenty of equipment for them to enjoy. Plenty of eateries (expensive for the quality of food provided so if you are being mindful of spending you may want to take your own food and maybe top up e.g with ice creams on a hot day) and some eateries are only open during peak times. There’s a train that runs through the zoo during the warmer months and that’s an extra cost but worth doing around £4.50pp. Firstly it’s fun for the kids, you often see some of the animals you may not have seen already from the walking paths and also, for a rest! Not much in the way of shelter from the hot/cold elements so dress appropriately. Terrain generally flat and accessible. Lovely gift shop, again pricey but I think they’ve got to charge high prices bearing in mind the cost to run this facility. Recommended!

Great family day out, lots to explore. You feel like you can freely explore whichever animal you wish to see first there is no set route. You can get quite close to a lot of them. The butterfly and aquarium are brilliant. Lots of refreshments and food options available.

Adore this Zoo. My little girl absolutely loves going here. Something new to see every time as you can never see it all in one day. The park is fantastic! So much to do for all ages there. Very well thought out and places. Train rides are fantastic, but are at an extra cost. We have annual passes, which if you are local I would recommend, as you only need to go a few times to have more than made your money. I got my partner the Giraffe experience for his birthday and it was amazing. He loved it so much! A bit pricey, but so worth it.

If you have younger children with you you might want to take scooters as there is alot of walking. We didn't and our 5 year old was fine but very tired after 2-3 hours. The play park is fab and the view is beautiful by the penguins so a great picnic spot in good weather.

Recommend a visit in warm weather and not in half term. Visited during half term. The free/exterior car park was closed due to the rainy weather and so we had to queue to enter the site in our cars, which took about 20 mins. Due to half term, there was barely any parking available. The zoo does not appear to be designed for the cold/rainy weather season and lacks paths for pedestrians. There are very few solid paths on the outer enclosures which meant that we had to wade through slushy, muddy grass. The zoo is slacking on services for visitors such as coffee/food kiosks. The cold weather would have been bearable with a hot drink or too, however all of the kiosks were closed. The zoo is great for the animals as all the enclosures are huge and spacious for them. The zoo lacks somewhat for guests, due to limited viewing areas to see the animals and the fact that these are set far back from the paddocks. However it is definitely worth a visit, due to the large variety of animals, including the farm animal area, which I definitely recommend for younger children as they can get close enough to stroke the animals as oppose to the other parts of the zoo.

It was really pretty with all the lights. Most of the animals were asleep. So we didn't see much. Staff was very friendly. I'd go again.

Superb day out for both children and adults. Many different animals to see. You can also drive your vehicle into and around the zoo for a small additional fee. Good food and toilet facilities available throughout. You can also find some amazing views and open spaces to have a picnic.

Me and my 7 year old son absolutely love this place! So much so, that we have had a Gold member annual pass for 5 years so far. We visit at least 6/7 times a year. It’s such a huge, beautiful place and the animals are obviously very well cared for. The childrens playpark is huge and there is definitely enough to keep the kids entertained what with the soft play and hands on farm all in the same vicinity. The train takes you on a lovely little guided tour of the zoo for a small fee and you get to see some of the animals which you might not see on foot. We also love the little wallaby’s that are free roaming around the grounds of the zoo. Especially when it’s Joey season :) The animal talks are great to watch, we particularly enjoy the Bird chat as the parrots fly right over your head! Also if you time it right you get to see some of the animals being fed…the chimps are by far the most interesting to see in this event. The butterfly house is a delight, so many beautiful butterflies which literally can land on your shoulder. You can also see them hatching out of cocoons. The only advise I would give is to wear very comfy shoes and bring a packed lunch or snacks as the food is very pricey as you would expect. All in all, a fantastic place to visit!

A great day out for all the family. Plenty of space for a picnic or for the kids to run around in between visiting all the animals, a great place for a walk and the animals all look very healthy and well looked after. There's plenty of free parking opposite the zoo as well, combined with ZSL membership for a very low cost day out.

Its a zoo, it has animals whats not to love! We went on a dismal drizzly day, but it didn't stop us enjoying our visit. Wintertime some of the animals are likely to be hunkering down, like the bears. You can pay extra and take your car in and drive round, which i wish we had done as you drive only drive through the Asia section, but we'll be going again! The cost of tickets and tour booklet was reasonable.

Brilliant day out, we walked five miles and saw so much. Is busy so expect to queue on arrival, but once in its awesome. Plenty to see and do, toliets all around and good gift shop. Definitely need a map to plan what to see. Lots of places to sit down and have picnics. Playground area very good.

Winter is probably not the best time to visit, but quite mild for December, and not heaving with visitors. If you have a disabled badge you can park in the grounds, and can move from car park to car park, as it is big. We had mobility scooter though and were happy to wander. Spent 4 hours no bother and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everywhere is fully accessible and got to see all the animals. Restaurant was nice, and all the staff were fab and knowledgeable.

An enjoyable day out. Sad to see the sealion and lion enclosure gone now. The cafe was very nice, and we were served very quickly. Just one thing to bare in mind is it's card only at the moment and you order through your phone.

We're lucky enough to have a year pass so we come here quite often. There's less pressure to cram in all the animals & you can take them in at a nice leisurely pace. Lovely place for a walk too!

This zoo is amazing. There are wallabies just roaming free round the zoo. It is a clean zoo and the animals have amazing enclosures. They have plenty of space. You can get so close to the animals it is incredible. You can easily spend all day there. There are that many animals to see that we didn't manage to see them all. Take a picnic as the food is a little pricey but this does not take away from the zoo itself. The staff were so friendly. Especially in the butterfly House and the Bird display. How close you can get to the giraffes and elephants is incredible. Beautifully looked after. We travelled 2 and a half hours to visit this zoo and it absolutely didn't disappoint. If you have little ones definately take a pushchair. X

My boyfriend and I spent the day exploring the zoo. We had a great time. We both enjoyed seeing hippos for the first time. We were impressed with the enclosures - especially the rhino one. With many of the enclosures the views were not obstructed by the fencing which made it feel less like a zoo. As we were visiting on a Monday in November the catering facilities were limited. We saved a bit of money buying our tickets in advance.

My first ever trip to Whipsnade zoo was today, and I was definitely not disappointed! Was so lovely to see a large variety of animals, and to see that all the animals had such large and appropriate enclosures. All staff we came across today were all lovely and very helpful. Would definitely recommend Whipsnade as an amazing family day out. I can definitely say that I'd be happy to go back for another visit.

I liked Whipsnade Zoo, the keepers we met were knowledgeable. The Zoo's layout is very spread out but you can take your car in and park at various locations in the zoo however if you decide to walk be prepared to stretch your legs. We stayed in the Lookout Lodges and had a great time. The meals in the evening and the morning were really good. And the after Hours tours were brilliant, To see sleeping lions so close up and the many other animals we visited going about their night time routine's was unusual and informative.

First off let’s start with the positives. The main one being the animals at this zoo are some of the best you’ll see in the UK, which of course is what you want to see from a Zoo. It had quite a unique system where you can take your car in the zoo and drive around, not necessary for me I don’t think but may be useful for others. Now to the negatives, a lot of the attractions seemed to be shut and for no real reason. As others have mentioned toilets were unclean. Staff seemed unenthusiastic. The drive through safari section was awful, no other word for it, if you want to get close to Deer go to Richmond park, the one at Longleat is much much better.

As with everywhere prices are going up and Whipsnade is no exception with an adult ticket now priced around £30.75. This makes their yearly membership much more attractive. As you need to go 3 or 4 times in the year to break even so to speak. Plus three membership covers London zoo as well. The zoo is running Easter extras including a 'egg' hunt which is looking for egg boards with a chance to win a years gold membership. This was useful for my children to encourage them round the entire site! It is a large site and walking shoes are definitely recommended but this means that even when it is busy you have space. It was good to see the lions which are in loan to ZSL and hopefully Whipsnade will manage to get some of their own to replace the ones they lost in due course. The biggest attraction for my children is always the butterfly house and crocodiles but everyone has their own favourites! As with anything if you want to keep your costs down take your own food. A highly recommended day out!

Very good zoo but their communication is average: very difficult to find our way in the zoo (lack of indication), not obvious to understand that you can enter the zoo with your car and stop in different area (I will know for my next visit). Also the restaurant menus are a bit ‘weak’. Anyway it is a huge zoo that I can only recommend and I will be back !

It was ok, very spread out and not a massive amount to see during the time we went. Definitely better zoos to visit that are the same distance from where we came from.

Such a great experience, took our grandson for the day. The staff were so friendly and informative. Very clean and the animals seemed well cared for. The butterfly house was an unexpected surprise. Lots of walking at a leisurely pace and the train ride was enjoyable. Several very good play areas for the young ones. A great day out. Parking free opposite the entrance.

It is a really lovely zoo. It feels more like a safari the animals have lots of places. The view is amazing after or before you visit the bears. It has a nice playground for the children. We really liked the bird show. The food is basic nothing special, The zoo is still under development. We spent a great afternoon there and really enjoyed it.

Wonderful place, animals appear well looked after. Some fantastic experiences so far bringing our 3yr old and 18th month year old to see a range of animals. It is a big place and if walking you will cover a large distance to see it all. But that's the beauty of the place, as the large animals have masses of space. Friendly and informative keepers and staff. Only improvement I'd suggest is to expand the signage and info boards a bit more across the zoo. You can get a little off track at times when u are unfamiliar with the layout. Food can be pricey, so a DIY picnic always a good idea.

Amazing zoo. So many animals to see and loads to do for little ones. Would advise paying extra to take car into zoo as it makes getting around much easier. Great places to eat and drink and really good facilities. Interesting talks held daily and a notice board at entrance showing all the days activities. Would recommend to everyone

Fantastic family day out, the bad weather made a beautiful rainbow so overall great experience. Will go there again, Wellies are reccomended. Can jump in and out of the car to blitz everything, or you can walk and enjoy everything on a slower pace. This zoo asks for return visits. :)

A great day out for the whole family. Social distancing in place but generally down to yourself to maintain with many kids around during the holidays. Staff, though didn't see many were friendly when approached. Following the map is straight forward and covered the whole park in the day. Will be going back to visit with the family again

COVID during Zoo Lights: Came here with the family and we enjoyed ourselves. Capacity limits made us feel very safe and spaced out from others. My trio of boys age 10-16 found it enjoyable but certainly not mesmerizing. Decorations like this are pretty typical nowadays in front yards so my crew wasn’t particularly in awe of anything for zoo lights. However it was a nice break and to do something as a family and walk outside and see some animals. We stopped by 5-6 enclosures were we got to watch some active zoo animals. Took us about 45-60 minutes to get through. I’m confident younger kids will love it. Not Santa or his workshop but still magical for them.

When to zoo lights. As always, Zoo New England did a great job. It was a little different from previous years, you know...Covid, but ZNE adapted and it was a good place to go as a family to see some holiday lights, some animals and extended the holiday season.

Absolute ball of a day we'll worth your money. We walked around and covered 6 miles and I'm sure we missed something. Nice play Park for toddler's and older children. Train ride is also good as you can see alot more animals while going around. If you can't walk to far you also have the option of taking your car in and stopping at different locations to get out and see the animals. We will return

It’s been years since I came to the zoo until recently and I loved every second of it. The steam railway was so fun and a nice addition to walking around the zoo to see various animals. Sadly there are no birds of prey and sea lion shows which was my favourite part of the zoo. I hope they bring that back as an engaging show would be nice.

It was our first time at this zoo and I'm sorry to say we won't be going back, we both were very underwhelmed and felt like there was a lot of walking to see not a great deal. Although the pens were a really nice size and all the animals had plenty of space with numerous items in each to keep them occupied, the only trouble is that some of the animals were so far away that you couldn't appreciate the beauty of what they had to offer. On the other hand there were also plenty of pens that you couldn't even see the animals, the fact that you could drive all the way round from section to section was good as being disabled walking that far I wouldn't have made it round. There were a few pens that had notices stating that the feeding talk wasn't available or that the animals weren't there because of one reason or other, if this is the case then I dont feel like they should be asking full price. There were plenty of play areas for the children that all looked like fun and a few cafe's/eating areas ( we only had hot chocolate drinks but I feel they were over priced)

This is going to sound unfair, Whipsnade was exactly like a zoo that has had minimal funding for the last 2 years, because, due to covid, that's what it is. Everywhere it just felt rundown, there were buildings that you couldn't tell if they were in use or not, were there animals or not at each location. Many animals were hiding or not out and some areas you could go in and see, others were still closed due to previous covid restrictions. So that was the negatives. But, the animals we did see were amazing, the guy in the butterfly house was an example of many of the team at Whipsnade, really passionate, helpful and excited to pass on their knowledge, really made the day excellent. The staff and their enthusiasm make this place probably a 4 star, but the zoo management do need to go for a walk round as if they are a visitor, they might understand the first points I made.

The zoo is amazing, absolutely huge and quite hilly though so if you have someone that struggles with walking best to take the car in. It can be quite windy even on a super hot day which is lovely, you are also likely to get burnt if you are pale😂 the new park is really good has sand and lots of musical bits too. We even met Bluey and bingo this week which was fantastic. Would recommend getting a membership if you live nearby totally worth it

We had an amazing time at Lookout Lodge - the keepers are all so knowledgeable and overall just a fantastic experience. We saw as many of the animals as we could, and for the ones we didn’t see, in a way I was happy that their enclosure was large enough that they could hide from the public eye. I would thoroughly recommend going, it’s an experience like no other. You are well taken care of, the the zoo is huge so very easy to spend a full day (or more there). There’s safe pathways to walk around, or alternatively different car parks if you want to drive and park at different stops.

Decided to take the little one to the Zoo today. People wise, it wasn’t over crowded which was brilliant cause we were able to enjoy the atmosphere of the park. The attractions were all open and we could take our time. Elements like the Lion enclosure and the Cheetah section, you couldn’t view the cats cause they where out of sight.

Excellent conservation zoo. Stayed in the Lookout Lodge and saw the animals after the zoo closed to the public on a guided tour with the keepers in the evening and the following morning. Lots of the animals seemed to know the public had gone and were much more active. Keepers are very informative, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Would definitely recommend the overnight stay.

The best zoo I've ever been to- I really enjoyed the butterfly area and the petting zoo! There's so much for all the family to do here and the staff were super welcoming. Definitely recommend spending the whole day there since it is a very big place- there is an option to drive around the park which is really handy especially for those with disabilities. And the view from the top of the hill was amazing, the perfect spot to eat ice cream with the penguins. I spent the entire day and I still don't think I saw everything! There is always more to see so I will definitely be revisiting!

We enjoyed our visit, there were a few enclosures with nothing in but still very enjoyable, the only disappointing part was there were a few animals that were kept in their small "pen" and not roaming their fields, Tiger, rhinos, didn't get to see the lions due to a new arrival, we personally feel this should have be disclosed to visitors prior to booking! Food prices are crazy high so I highly recommend taking your own food and drink!

Me and my two boys (2&6) LOVE Whipsnade Zoo!!! We have membership, and it's totally worth it as we are there all the time. We love seeing all the different animals and learning lots about them. And having the freedom to run around in the fresh air. Absolutely great day out for all ages!

Very good selection of animals to look at. Tickets are a bit on the pricey side, but I feel like you get a lot for it. I'd recommend visiting the gift shop before heading to the actual zoo to avoid queues. Parking is huge and you'll definitely find a space.

Had a lovely day at Whipsnade Zoo with a 2 year old boy and a 4.5 year old girl. It's a lot of walking for little ones, so I was very proud of the 4.5 year old, as she walked the whole time with no moaning etc. Happy I had the pushchair for the little one as it was so much easier. It's a shame that the sea lions etc have all gone, as that's what I remember from when I went with school in 1985. Loved the train. Seemed a shame that there weren't that many animals to see from the train, but we loved seeing the Elephants and camels and kangaroos. The Rockhopper Penguins were my favourite. The food and drink prices were very reasonable I thought and all the staff I encountered were lovely. Plenty of toilets all over, which we were thankful for. I'll definitely be back with the children soon.

I had an incredible time at Whipsnade Zoo! The variety of animals and the well-maintained enclosures made it a captivating experience. The bear exhibit was a highlight, offering a close-up look at these majestic creatures in a habitat that seemed so natural. The playful antics of the bears were a joy to watch. The rhino enclosure was equally impressive. The spacious area allowed the rhinos to roam freely and exhibit their natural behaviors. It's heartening to see a zoo prioritize the well-being and comfort of its animals. The elephant exhibit was truly awe-inspiring. The massive yet graceful elephants appeared content and were engaged in activities that showcased their intelligence. The educational information provided throughout the zoo deepened my appreciation for these magnificent animals and the conservation efforts in place. The staff's dedication was evident in their interactions with both visitors and animals. Clean facilities, well-marked paths, and plenty of informative signs added to the overall positive experience. Whipsnade Zoo is a must-visit for anyone seeking a day of wonder and a chance to connect with the animal kingdom. The zoo map is difficult to read, otherwise a wonderful experience

Zoo is amazing 👏! The kids enjoyed it a lot. Only, due to the weather conditions, we were not able to see lions, wolves, bears, cheetahs, and otters. We had a chance to travel on the train as well. It took around 12 minutes to make a round trip. During the trip, we saw hazel, antelopes, kangaroos, camels, elephants, and other animals. I recommend visiting! Love it 😀

Good day out with the family or a couple. There is plenty to do and walk around. Some areas are having makeovers, which is good to see. If you go in the colder months or on a cold day, definitely bring a coat it does get windy on the hills. Picnic benches scattered throughout the park, so plenty of places to sit. Restaurant on site if you want to buy to food. Lots of animals to see, kids enjoyed scooting between animals. Good day out.

Lovely zoo, grounds are maintained nicely and clean. Animal enclosures also look well maintained. Four stars because the space allocated for animals is not very big, it will be so much better if they could increase the space allocated for animal enclosures, feels sad to see these lovely furry beings kept in small enclosures (especially the big cats and giraffes, elephants).

I really enjoy the freedom of the zoo and the safety factor for children.😊 However atm there aren't many animals there compared to the last time I visited..alot of the cages were empty to the point I felt we should have had some kind of Discounted entry price 🙄 Due to COVID 19 the show's weren't on I.e birds..sea lions ..farm animal interaction, and the playgrounds are closed!! Large Cats slept pretty much all day! kids were disappointed because the viewing area didn't provide good view of them😔 We were there from 10am to 4pm. Best View Butterflies, Elephants and Giraffes 🥰🥰 Zoo is tidy, bathrooms are clean. Some animals roam free I.e mini kangaroos, hares and some birds.

Huge open spaces, lots of walking, lovely enclosures, lots of different animals. At the entrance you can get a map which shows different times of feeding and performances. They are definitely worthwhile seeing - the animals are fascinating to observe in those circumstances. There's a restaurant on site serving a variety of foods and there are a few picnic areas with tables and benches if you bring your own.

Been going to ZSL since I was a baby. Still feel like it's my back yard every time I go and have some wonderful memories of parties events and time spent with family and friends at ZSL. Great for a bit of exercise too as there's acres to walk around or you can use various types of transport on offer.

Another fabulous trip to ZSL Whipsnade today! The staff are really going above and beyond to help people move around the zoo safely. Hand sanitising stations are everywhere you need them to be and the very friendly staff help control how many people are going in and out of indoor spaces. Everything looks really clean and well maintained including the animal enclosures. Can’t wait to go back!

Love coming to this zoo. Big, wide open spaces. Great for a day out and walk in the fresh air whatever the weather. If you enjoy photography this place is superb with the large animal enclosures and surrounding countryside. Free parking as well which in today’s age of charging for everything is very welcome. Would be good to see incentives for EV cars being allowed in to the zoo without paying extra or at the least at a discounted rate.

Amazing Zoo. Every easy to social distance. Highly recommend going over the covid festive period. They really need to do something about the speed of people driving round the zoo though. Twice we nearly got run over because people broke the speed limit, made worse with young excited children running around.

Brilliant. The 7 year old niece absolutely loves the place. Very educational and leads of things to do - including a fabulous train ride. Above all though, are the animals. Plenty of them, easy to see and looked well looked after. In truth I'd rather see animals in the wild (only) but Whipsnade appears to have found a (humane) balance. All he animals looked in good nick and well cared for.

We had a very wet day here but still managed to have a good look around. There were not many places to find shelter from the weather and queues were very long to get into cafes and butterfly house due to Covid19 restrictions. We had boots and trainers on but really could have done with our wellies! We made the best of the unpredictable British weather but it would have been a nicer experience and more enjoyable on a dry day. This is a full day out if you want to try and see it all, the place is huge, you will be walking lots so sensible footwear is a must. It will be nice to go back again with less restrictions, hopefully when the sun is shining and play areas are open 😊

It is a massive zoo.very spread out. However there were not many animals. Since each area for specific animals are so big, it was hard to spot them and they were too far away. We were thinking of buying annual pass but don't think we will be revisiting.

Whipsnade is a huge place, I don't think its possible to see everything in one day especially if you have children with you. The enclosures are great and there was so many animals to see, it was a good day out! The only bad point is it was rather busy and crowded so it was hard to social distance and there wasn't many sanitiser stations around.

An excellent day out, the residents look well cared for & have a good amount of space. The current pandemic restrictions caused a few annoyances, but that's not ZSL's fault. A great destination for a family day out or even just for a couple. Worth taking the car in for £12.50 (winter rate from beginning of November) a bit steep at £25.00 for the summer rate, but it is a charitable venture so it's a way of raising funds without making the ticket prices too high for everyone.

This zoo was amazing! My family I really had a great experience. We went during covid 19, the lines were busy and it actually felt normal apart from the 2 metres apart and wearing face masks. The staff were friendly and people we who visited were ok...apart from one lady I asked if she could take a pic she nodded her head to say no as if I was the human covid plague😂. Other then this we had a wonderful time! Definitely do visit this zoo x

I went here after it reopened, the place is very vast so really easy to socially distance, it was a really nice day out, pack food with you as most of their kiosks are closed at the moment and it's quite a vast site, so you want not want to walk back to the main shop area. But the toilets are still open.

Absolutely love this zoo. They have an amazing variety of animals and soooooo many elephants. (I'm pretty sure more than any zoo in the UK!) We love this zoo so much that we visit here every year. Its quite pricey. On top of the £97 to get our family of 4 in, we also have 3.5 hours of driving to get to the zoo and back home again. But, we still do it cause it's a fab zoo!!!

Stone Zoo is open in this pandemic and they have made a great job keeping almost all animals and section open. Some of them are close due different reason. The way to visit it is so easy. Just walk and follow the one way. You don’t need to think about what way or if it’s the wrong way. There is only one way. Thanks Kids are so happy to see different species forms different planet places. You can see pink flamingos As well Mexican wolfs. Nice and funny for Kids. I really recommend to visit this Zoo. Had a good time visiting the zoo lights. The loop you follow is a little less than a half mile and it takes you through fun Christmas displays and animals. The animals are limited in the winter - we went in January and could see the snow leopards, flamingos, reindeer, sloth, porcupine, monkeys and some birds. There may have been a few others, but they we couldn’t spot them in their cages. We spent about an hour there.

  • 4/5 Sara M. 3 years ago on Google
I really enjoyed Zoo Lights! Even despite Covid, so much effort is put into making it a wonderful experience. I am concerned about animal well-being in some enclosures since for example the monkey area smelled very strongly of feces. A lot of exhibits are closed so there aren't many animals to see. But overall I really enjoyed it.

Great Zoo with plenty of space for the animals to roam freely. Easy to either walk or drive with lots of maps/sign posts making it easy to navigate your way around. The train is great in the summer months, but still lots to see during the colder months of the year. Great day out for all.

  • 4/5 Matthew 3 years ago on Google
This zoo is absolutely enormous (largest in the UK) so expect a fair bit of walking - we did about 7k and covered most of the park. During Covid expect queues for some of the animals. Lots of young kids on scooters - not sure if they provide them or just everybody was bringing their own. Animals get a lot of space in big open fields, but also often means you may not be able to get very close to the animals.

I took my son here for the day, we arrived at opening time and it took us nearly until closing time to walk all the way around. We saw nearly all of the animals (some were hiding). There was lots of hand sanitizer stations available around the zoo. It felt very safe. A great day out, i would highly recommend it

We are members so this review is based on quite a few visits... Pros: *Animals have lots of space, they seem happy and you can have some magical close encounters (as long as you go off peak) *Lots of lovely open space for picnicking plus a heated area under cover *Indoor attractions (normal times) are great for bad weather * Remote ordering in main restaurant works very well Cons: *Really hard to navigate, most of the paths aren't marked and you can end up walking a LONG way! *The demo sessions are only on the board at the entrance so unless you take a picture you have no idea what's happening when. *To get from the tiger area to the playground you HAVE to cross on a step bridge, if you have a buggy you are scuppered! *The railway, buses and top restaurant have never been open on the many times we've visited (including before covid) 🤔

Well spaced zoo with number of different enclosures, ample amount of facilities- cafes, toilets, and paid parking places within the zoo area. My toddlers loved spending the day.

What a great day out. Excellent animal displays in very large enclosures for the animals. Wonderful walking around the zoo - I’ve no idea why some people drive around!!! It’s worth a full day. Good steam train ride and large playground. Highly recommended for families

Really enjoyed this zoo, definitely one of my favourites I've been too. The animals seem happy and well looked after. Staff were knowledgeable. I went on a cold Sunday and it was very quiet which was actually really nice. A couple of the enclosures were empty but i think that's to be expected with any zoo, especially in the winter. I really enjoyed the red panda, he was definitely putting on a show in his tree! The penguins are a must see too. This zoo is definitely the closest I've been to any animals at a zoo.

Loved this zoo. Had a great time even though it was raining. The size of the park is really great and each section really feels like a different experience. I think it was helped by the fact we came on a quiet day but it was a really fun day out

I have a gold pass to whipsnade zoo. which is Well worth the price if your planning ok visiting 3 or more times a year, plus it's valid at London Zoo also for a change of scenery. It has outdoor animal enclosures, a small indoor aquarium/butterfly house, play park (little and big kids), train, farm area and a small drive around enclosure with deer in and of course the gift shop and restaurants and picnic areas. The zoos normally do seasonal events (such as meet santa), and before Christmas they had a dinosaur exhibition that was really great for the kids, (although this wasn't permanent, and has gone now). Prices are very expensive, especially the food. The zoo is split into areas by continent, so you can move around the globe when visiting the animals. The zoo is very spacious with lots of room to run around (and socially distance). They also do keeper/animal experiences for extra which is a nice gift. The drive through area isn't that great, but I still use it most times I go. My favourite animals to visit are the cheetas, hippos, Lions, giraffes and aquarium. I've not been on the train yet as its always so busy. The park areas are cool, and have a good selection for older kids and younger kids. You can drive in (pay extra for car) or you can park in car park and walk in zoo. Kids often go on their scooters around the park so they don't get too tired! Tip; if parking in the overflow car park, don't park at the bottom if its raining... Our vehicle got stuck in the mud and we had to get pulled out by whipsnade! 🙈

A great massive zoo, a lot of wild life to see, such as rhinos, elephants, and giraffes etc. However, you will need more than one visit to cover the zoo. Being a member gives me the luxury of entering unlimited times. I would strongly recommend.

A great visit. A very large zoo with a wide variety of animals from Europe, Africa and Asia. Nice steam train journey (additional charge £4.50 adults £2 kids) which loops through some of the animal enclosures. Well worth a visit, and admission charges help ZSL with their conservation work.

  • 5/5 Anthony L. 2 years ago on Google
There are elephants and emus, butterflies and bears, meerkats and much more. Whipsnade is a great day out for all. The kids will love it - and those a bit older will take home many happy memories too.

Awesome day out. Lots of walking involved but can take car in for a certain price, in my opinion it isn't worth doing that tho as it is a much better experience on foot.

Great day out. A bit expensive but 10 year old loved it. Parked outside (saved £25) so had to do a bit of walking inside ( think I preferred not taking the car in). Some great animals Rhinos, wolverines and red panda were the highlights for us.

If sunny make sure to take a hat, and some water. The place is vast, so get there nice and early to make the most of it. If a frequent visitor you realise that there's a lot more potential waiting to happen. Perhaps due to lack of funding there are unitised buildings in need of renovation which could house more attractions. More shows and events are needed, and it would be nice to see new animals. What is on show is 5 star, I'd just like to see more!

Had a fantastic weekend at the zoo, experienced keeper walks the absolute highlight. The whole team were so enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable. Learned so much. Whole lodge experience superb, well worth the wait.

The zoo is very big , many animals to see. We did not see any lions. Theres an option of taking your car inside as well. There is a train ride inside which takes you around the park which runs from 1pm to 4pm , so if you want to get on it , you need to check the timings in advance as they might change. It was closed when we reached there. They have interesting talks on animals , timings of which can be found at the entrance . The bird talk show in the open arena was very nice .

Such a beautiful zoo that’s set on large open spaced land! It’s great to see all the animals have so much space to move around and it all being kept in great condition. If you choose not to drive around do get ready to walk your feet off.

A great day out for couples! Plenty of space for a picnic or for a rest in general during sunny and warm days in between of walking around. Plenty to see- you need at least 8h to be able to see everything properly. I would suggest leaving early. There's plenty of free parking. There’s an option to convert your ticket to a membership for a low fee and then you can get more for your money if you like going to Zoo more then once a year.

What a wonderful zoo. We visited on New Year's Day with 3 young children - 3, 5 and 6! It was relatively quiet and subdued due to the weather and cold but there was plenty to see and do. The zoo is big enough to give the animals more space but also manageable to walk around. Parking was easy in the free car park. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and the animal talks were well timed, informative, amusing and brought the world of the animals to life. The refreshments were great although the locations needed careful planning to ensure our little ones had snacks when necessary. I was slightly disappointed that the snack stalls and the chippy van closed at 3pm precisely as we were still playing in the epic adventure playground. However, visiting Whipsnade was a wonderful experience and I am really looking forward to going back again soon.

My wife and I took our 2 boys here recently for the day and we loved it. It is set in a beautiful setting as some of the views are outstanding. It is a big zoo with plenty of space, but it still has plenty of animals to see. There are plenty of places for kids to let off steam. We will definitely go back.

Awesome place to visit the animals are so well cared for, great talks and information and amazing views. The food prices are on the high side but plenty of places to picnic. My son has limited mobility, so we were able to take our car in for free with his blue badge which was a great help.

My daughter Cheyenne took me to see the Bears! For my 65th birthday .Had a great day ,it was a very hot day, so most of the animals were in the shade, but you could still see the bears. Huge zoo with lots of animals, and you could drive around in your car like in Africa. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go again.. on a cooler day though !

Very nice and well maintained Lots of different types of animals and enclosed like they’re in own habitat Vast variety of food, snacks and hot/cold drinks although bit pricy. Best is to pack yourselves your own snacks water food etc Free parking 🅿️ outside the main entrance otherwise you’re with family and wanna visit whole zoo in single day then it’s recommended to take car inside the zoo with 30£ fee. You can ride along different areas inside zoo and also there are parking near most of the regions of the zoo. Zoo shop and info at entrance

I really enjoyed going to the zoo. It’s a very nice day out with the family. Lots of kids there. The outdoor playground is really nice and big. I also recommend the indoor playground. My 2 years old loved it . It’s very important to book before as it’s very popular. There are a lots of tables for picnics and I suggest to bring the food and have it in one of the areas . Also don’t forget To go on the steaming train! It’s worth it !

Great zoo! Very well thought out habitats for each animal, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who were always happy to share information. The shop is very well stocked and reasonably priced. I'd have given it 5 stars but the catering, service, queing and ordering systems at the restaurant were awful. We left and just got a cup of tea at the exit.

We stayed overnight in the cabins which are cosy but no loos. Loo and shower nearby like a campsite however. Included out of hours walks x 3 and dinner and breakfast which were nice. But better communication from staff would be preferred as even the restaurant next to the cabins didn't know anything helpful. Actual event staff were fab however.

A brilliant zoo! This place is massive. The enclosures for the animals don't seem too small like most other zoos do. Highlight for me was definitely the European Brown Bear! There is a great variety of animals to see. My children really enjoyed seeing the rhinos, elephants, giraffes, (which were close to the observation deck) and the cheetahs. All in all a great day out, just prepare to do some walking! Although you can go between enclosures by car and I believe there is a bus that goes around the zoo too.

We are big fans of London Zoo (Camden) but Whipsnade is something else. This wonderful zoo is located only 35minutes away from London (by car). Humongous area! They have elephants, kangaroos and some other animals you may not come across in London Zoo. Also, a massive playground/soft play area for kids. Great place to spend time with family. Free and paid parking is available.

  • 5/5 Rebecca C. 7 months ago on Google
Fantastic zoo, very spacious with plenty of benches to rest on. Greats views. My daughter also enjoyed the summer activities, making a flower bomb and playing in the Dennis the menace area as well as the carousel (£3 extra). My daughter's favourite was the baby elephant and zebra. Would highly recommend eating in base camp, as it has a large seating area and a good menu.

It's a great place to visit in a summer afternoon. We reached around 2pm and most of the school kids were preparing to leave, so we pretty much had the zoo to ourselves. The zoo is very big and well organized, and the map is very helpful in helping us navigate around. Loved the free roaming wallabies. Penguins, tiger and lions are the ones that one must check out!

  • 5/5 katie f. 7 months ago on Google
Lovely family day out, we started off with a coffee from Starbucks which was hideously expensive at £4.15 and the lady on the till was very grumpy, bearing in mind you've all come for a nice day out, I just feel she should appear a little happier 🤔. Later we got a coffee from a catering van further into the zoo, much cheaper (2.50 for coffee and £2.00 for tea) and very friendly staff, so I wouldn't rush to get your coffee as soon as you get there. Lots of animals to see and got a good view of them. Wallabies hopping about where you are walking which was nice and entertaining. Lots of places to stop and have a picnic 😊. I couldn't say what my favourite bit was really, I enjoyed it all.

  • 5/5 Vikki T. 7 months ago on Google
Amazing zoo! All animals appear well looked after with plenty of space for them to make their own. Lots of walking involved, so be prepared and make sure you're wearing trainers - but not new ones. It was a wet day and paths were very muddy and slippy.

We had a brilliant family day out here. 2 adults & 4 kids aged between 21 months & 12yrs, we all enjoyed the day, something for everyone. There is so much to see & do it would easily cover two days to do it all fully, we arrived half an hour after it opened and left a few mins before it closed for the day & we hadn't seen or done everything that we'd all wanted. Still a fantastic day though. The staff were friendly & very knowledge. The animals all looked healthy & content. We will definitely be back, my fiance & I are looking at maybe doing a stay in one of the lodges onsite too!

Amazing! It's a really large zoo! Lots of animals. They look like happy and healthy. We did 10km walking all around and about and unfortunately didn't see all animals but we were with 2 very young children! Lots of spots to relax, shadow and cafes, restaurants and shops ! Birds show is lovely we can see some birds flying around us. Butterfly centre is gorgeous as well. Highly recommended for all ages! Amazing. We will be back soon.

Very well looked after zoo. Lots to see, but as always the big cats hiding. Kids really enjoyed it. We easily spent 6 hours here. Spread out over a large area, so lots of walking, but you can drive around if you want to pay for the privilege. Highly recommend the zoo. O

The weather was great. Not a lot in the way of shade on the route round, so sun cream is a must. The price of things inside is high. Be ready for that. The staff seem very friendly, plenty of animals to be seen and a great deal of walking. Scooters are allowed for the little ones and a scooter track available here to. Must bring your one though unable to hire on site. All in all, a great family day

Such a lovely zoo. The place is massive and has a range of different animals that aren't usually in UK zoo's. Really enjoyed but there is a lot of walking! Is an option to drive around instead but you see more if you walk.

It's definitely worth a visit. Highlight of our trip away (two big kids). Large are but pretty flat and buggy accessible. Able to get quite close to the animals. Parking was plentiful and not far from the entrance. Train around the Africa area reasonably priced. Food is dear for what you get but that is expected in a zoo. Most of the good food is around basecamp with a few pop up stalls in other areas. Would also recommend the information guide. Worth a visit!

Was the most lovely day out with family. This Zoo does come on the pricier side but I assure you it gives you the wider variety of things to see and do compared to the other Zoos around the UK. This was my second time visiting and neither were disappointing. There are plenty of spaces to sit down and relax if you get tired of walking around too!!

  • 5/5 Candy B. 6 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved it. Stunning views, helpful keepers, plenty of space so your not right on top of each other. Overall great day out. We had so many photo opportunities.

This zoo is much better than the London Zoo. The tickets are cheaper, the place is bigger, there are more animals, and it looks like they have more freedom. You can choose to park the car outside for free or drive into the zoo, but there's an extra charge of 30 pounds per car. It's quite expensive, but the zoo is very huge, and there is a drive that gets you closer to see the animals. There's also a place where you can pet the little goats; it's a very nice experience. Overall, I recommend this zoo. It's great for families to spend half a day here and you can bring your own food to have a picnic in the zoo.

Great day out! Caught in the Sep heat wave of 2023 and lasted a full day, journey by car was fine and the zoo itself is big but not too big. Plenty of animals to see and the feeding times are good to gain knowledge of you can time them right. Main event for me was the tiger I got fantastic pictures of. Wear sturdy shoes and you can’t go wrong.

Had such a fun day out. It's a huge place so it's kind of like going for a walk in the countryside too. You are not clambering through crowds of people to get a good view of the animals. Animal enclosures are large and they look happy too. The white rhino's where are a rare sight and amazing and the otters and the red pandas are super cute!!!

Really nice day at Whipsnade with the kids. Lots of space to roam and all the drivers were really sensible. We are in the restaurant... the pulled pork burger had no flavour and was really disappointing. The rest of the experience was great. Lots of chances to see the animals and they were close enough to see them properly (unlike Woburn where sometimes you barely know they are there). The park is huge and has things for me 6y/o and 1y/o to enjoy. Really quick to get in, no queue at all. Loads of free parking.

Amazing day for my son's birthday! Beautiful weather and a gorgeous, gorgeous zoo. The area is huge but it's perfectly walkable and you can see everything (as long as they aren't hiding). We found we fit everything in and a nice lunch without worrying about when the zoo was closing. The one downside is no one mentions when the train closes and so when we went and got told that we just missed the last train, my son was disappointed. It would have been nice to have this information on the map or on the board like the talks.

  • 5/5 Serena B. 5 months ago on Google
Took my 26 months old granddaughter to see the elephants mainly as she absolutely loves them. We visited the elephants 3 times during our visit. We saw lots of the animals whilst we were there in the habitat of where they were from. We drove between Africa, Asia and Europe, which cost us another fee of £30 which is well worth it as you'd not even see half the animals otherwise. I was impressed with the amount of toilet facilities and places to eat. Definitely a trip worth while.

I had a wonderful experience at the Zoo. Had a very informative and personal talk with Georgie about Lemurs, and becoming a zoo keeper, I really appreciated her having time for all our questions. The animals were beautiful and I would recommend to a friend.

Good variety of different animals and plenty of open space. The only hindering factor depends on the time of year one visits. Since we went in winter many of the animals were not in their enclosures which negatively impacts value for money as less animals can be seen. Regardless it's definitely ideal for families.
