Beautiful nature reserve with lots of paths to avoid people and social distance. Especially during autumn this is a blace to go. Have a wander through the birches and enjoy the colorful leaves, hunt for mushrooms and watch the Jays and squirrels squabble for acorns. Don't be a terrible person and pick up your rubbish, don't litter :) the wildlife will thank you for it. parking available Follow me on Instagram @ruby_sunday

Crisscrossed by both marked & unmarked footpaths and Bridleways this is a favourite wooded reserve for dog walkers, horse riders, cyclists and families. Even in the depths of Winter most routes are dry and any wet stretches are easy enough to bypass. Several flat grassy areas provide possible picnic areas in the Summer. Large parking which fills up some weekends, but never on weekdays. To the North you can reach Woolmer Green. Oaklands to the South and East. The West is bordered by the A1(M) but well fence/bush lined. There is a tunnel going under the A1(M) so you can continue towards Potters Heath/Codicote but need to cross a couple of minor roads to do so. Wildlife mainly squirrels, rabbits and muntjac deer. The wooded area dominates the Heath although the Spring months do offer some natural wild flowers at the peripheries. Well worth a visit. Probably an hour needed to walk around the circumference - more with a curious dog! A few wastebins here and there so it's all relatively clean. A smattering of benches too. Good for childen but not prams or pushchairs. This year, 2023, the growth in the meadows has been fantastic. Some wildflowers over 2+ metres high. A real walkers treat.

Been going up Mardley pretty much over the past 25 years or so! Swamps to MTB trails and now suits my RC Crawler perfectly!

This has been walking distance from home for years and I never knew about it! I'm so glad to have discovered a lovely local place to go for a quiet walk and experience nature, especially during lockdown. Bring some shoes you don't mind getting muddy, or like me, come ill-prepared and just go for it anyway! An endless walk through the woods with some good bumps and ditches on way. What's more to love? 😁

Great for trail running. Mostly woodland with some farm fields and quiet country lanes. Very muddy and wet in winter.

One of the best local spots for a walk. Nice and light and not too muddy. Great for kids with lots of little mounds to climb and criss-crossing paths to wander along. Good rope swing area too. Good parking some information boards.

Pleasant place for a walk, horse ride or cycle, depending on your interests. Parts of the area are hilly around the actual healthland in the woods, so be prepared for mixed terrain

Plenty to do here. Tree swinging, den building, bike riding, dog walking etc. Lucky to have places like this on our doorstep. Free car park too

Great wooded area for a walk in the shade. Fun for my dog to run around off leash. Very pretty scenery, well worth a visit.

Great for a cool walk in the woods, the butterflies are out on the heath now. Remember to pick up your rubbish though as people keep littering the beauty spots.

😠 This is a review for the Christmas lights. They are terrible this year (2023). Nothing like last year’s great light display. Weird & small almost like a local Halloween thing. No guides as advertised. Avoid!

πŸ‘ Good sports centre, even though some parts have had to be shut down. Most workers are quite friendly, some are great. Did the summer camp here and mostly loved it. I regularly do athletics training here on the track and the cleanliness and quality is great, just like most of gosling. The cafe hasn’t...
