Lovely place for kids to paddle. My two enjoyed trying to catch river shrimp (remember to take a bucket and net), which they released before we left. Would love to have the place to ourselves!

Lovely place for a paddle and on an overcast day not too busy. Possibility to go for a nice walk around the village.

A little oasis in the centre of Ashwell. Fun for children to paddle on a warm day. It's not a massive area so can get busy, but well worth a visit. This is a nature reserve so they do ask people to be respectful of the area.

Small quite unique spot in the village of Ashwell. where a few springs feed the river Cam, Dogs are permitted on leads, and it is relatively safe to paddle in if a little cold I'm.told, or use the stepping-stones to cross the stream. Quite well hidden but clearly marked on free guides from the Rhubarb and Mustard cafe/ teashop on the High Street If you have time visit here too and the medieval church of St. Mary.

Pleasant area next to a pub and just off the High Street in Ashwell. Nice and cool on a hot day. The water felt quite cold, despite it being 27c on the day.

Interesting place. Supposedly where the river cam starts. Nice area for a walk. Fun for children who can walk over stepping stones and get close to the water which is not very deep. Nice pub nearby for a drink and a pub meal.

We stumbled upon this during a walk round Ashwell village, unaware until after of the site's significance. Some children were enjoying a paddle in the shallow pools in their wellyboots, we crossed the stepping stones with the dog who was unsure if he could use them or just wade in the shallow water. It was clean and tidy with no visible litter, the obviously well used paths were mostly bare soil and could become muddy in wet weather. Signed advised that dogs were only admitted on a lead following complaints. There are a number of entrances, some steeper paths than others. It might prove difficult to access some paths with a buggy or wheelchair, and in any case the gates would be difficult.
