Nice place to stay for a couple of nights. Very quiet at night, and the rooms have a lot of character. The building itself has a rich history of which the proprietor gave us the synopsis. Staff are friendly and helpful. Regular unrestricted TV so can use all your gadgets. Parking is secure. They don't have a breakfast service on site, and be sure to check if your bathroom is en suite as some of the rooms have bathroom separate. Refurbed in March 2018. Bathroom clean. Would stay here again.

Lovely rooms and really quite atmosphere. The outside of the building does not look so tidy and clean however once you are inside it is much nicer. They do have a car park and contact less entrance. A couple of numbers and codes and you are inside. Located nicely in walking distance of St. Albans center. In the rooms you will also find a hairdryer, iron and a fridge.

Ideal location with a luxurious feel, we absolutely enjoyed the night here and cannot fault the property at all! Both rooms (ground and top floor) were stunning and very homely. Provided parking is an added bonus and host provides very detailed and understandable instructions which further compliments a wonderful stay.

We really weren’t impressed. After a long haul flight back to the UK , myself and my partner booked 1 night stay to recover from jet lag. On arrival we were greeted by an untidy, overgrown exterior. We entered the building where there seemed to be some sort of music convention taking place. Our peaceful rest was completely disturbed by a group playing instruments in the next room and being very noisy in the hallway. The blinds to the large window didn’t function correctly. We did manage to close them but they were totally inadequate allowing the room to be filled with light at 5am. We have actually got home more exhausted than we were from our flight. I’m not happy at all.

Really nice big room and massive bathroom. Very nice shower and the house and surrounding area are lovely.

The quality of our room was impeccable, but, the television was a complete mystery, no instructions at all how to use it.

Mixed experience staying at Torrington Hall, lots of good points but some really basic stuff that badly let it down which left us feeling we probably wouldn’t stay again. The room (St Alban) was on the top floor and was spacious and comfortable, likewise the shower room. It was quiet and we had a good night’s sleep. Location for the city was good as well as the fact you can leave your car there for the full day of check out. The downsides: Lighting was a big issue, outside the building, in the communal areas, and inside the room was very poor - nearly all the lightbulbs were out or non existent. The hairdryer was great, but just nowhere near a mirror to plug it in. There was only one comfy chair in our double bedroom despite there being plenty of room. The room was mostly clean, but there was a bit of old dust in some places, but wasn’t a massive issue for us. But probably the thing that tipped me over into leaving this slightly negative review was the housekeeper letting herself into the room a full 10 minutes before check out…without knocking!! So overall it was good enough, but in my opinion a bit overpriced in its current operational state - all of which is fairly easily fixed…which I hope they do!

This was the hotel that I stayed and got ready for my wedding. The stairs were amazing to go down. The rooms were nice and spacious. The WiFi in the TV cut out and I had no idea how to get it back.

Tired, shabby, and poorly executed. On arrival you are greeted by an untidy overgrown exterior. Disappointing first impression. Check in is person-less. Fair enough; we can live with that providing self check in is self explanatory and easy to follow. Newsflash...It isn't. The room is very tired and shabby and has been equipped with only the most basic necessities. Inadequate storage and hardly anywhere to place your items. The bathroom sink needs a plumber as the water takes a long time to drain away. The kitchenette isn't signposted anywhere. I had to tentatively open a door with a handwritten (texta) sign saying "Residents Only", hoping it would be the kitchen. Fortunately my guess was correct, but no thanks to any signage. Once inside, we decided we wouldn't use it. It was rather untidy and had piles of discarded cardboard recycling and a vacuum cleaner pushed into the corner. It honestly felt like a hostel. Wi-fi. Again, a hand scribbled texta notice on a slip of paper left in our room with the password. The only thing going for it is the location which is very well positioned close to the town centre. Other than this, we disliked almost everything else. Not recommended.

An absolutely amazing place. Our stay here was great, the staff were amazing, the location is ideal to get into St Albans city centre and to BOTH St Albans train stations (Abbey and City) with access into London St Pancras in 20 minutes! The room we stayed in had an amazing view of the beautiful St Albans Abbey Cathedral (even amazing on a rainy day) and it was Ideally located for some of the best independent restaurants and coffee shops that the city has to offer. We also attended an event here. With on-site parking and great sized rooms for events. The event was a success, I will be looking to book this venue in the future as it is easily accessible from major roads and public transport!

It was just absolutely amazing to the point that I forgot to take photos. I just got swept up in the moment.

I had an issue (my own oversight) that escalated out of proportion. I was called by the management who've promised to solve the problems. (*Many Thanks*) The room was grand proportions and the bathroom was MASSIVE - with room to dance around.

A bit tired needs a bit of TLC. Didn't like the fact that people were also living there. Also not great soundproofing as got woken up at 3 am by a loud conversation that went on for a while people need to be more respectful.
