Wow. Needing to see a PT isn’t at the top of my list of fun things to do but Stephanie and her staff at the Libertyville Athletico facility were great. They were able to assess my issues and develop a treatment plan that got me back to doing the things that are important to me. While pt isn’t exactly fun Stephanie and her staff made it pleasant and effective. If ever I need or help again (and I hope I don’t) I’d go see Stephanie. Just don’t call her Stephy.

As a nurse specialist who has been the provider of healthcare and clinical education for over 40 years, I am an impossibly finicky, discerning recipient! Thus, my therapy experience spanning several months (twice/week, and ongoing) at the Athletico facility in Libertyville has led to this rare (for me) and extremely deserving review, in hopes that it also helps YOU. No stranger to surgery and subsequent therapy for my spine, I ended up here after an unexpected, complex (and very painful) surgery of the hand. My surgeon highly recommended my therapist (more to come) and she works here, so I crossed my fingers and called to make an appt. From that moment on, I’ve honestly been blown away- Erin at the front desk was accommodating, kind, and efficiently got me scheduled right away for my highly booked therapist. Covid precautions are exceedingly well met and strictly observed by the entire staff, and I feel safe each time I visit. The other therapists and assistant therapists ALL greet you, get to know you, and they/the atmosphere are extremely upbeat and positive. If you get to work with Becky, Autumn, and another therapist in the hand arena, Sam- consider yourself lucky as they are gems, knowledgeable, skilled, and brightened many a tough session for me. But my biggest blessing throughout this whole mess, and truly someone I consider my angel throughout, is Katie Piazzi. I could write paragraphs about her! Suffice it to say, surgeons/physicians (and I know several) HIGHLY respect her and send their patients to her from all over (my surgeon said “she may be the best in the country”), she mentors and trains OT students and new therapists in all aspects of care but I believe her specialty lies in hand/upper extremity, and even my past PT practice seeks her out for advice! So she’s uber GOOD. However, she’s also “extra”- and blends all her knowledge and skill with innate clinical/psych perception, laser beam assessment, workable solutions and never ending encouragement. I know this journey for me would not have been as successful in the time it’s taken thus far, without her. I’ve come a very long way, and I truly owe that to her. So in ending- Katie, you’ve been my occupational therapist, coach, teacher, task master, advocate and FRIEND. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! And to the rest of the staff at Athletico - this healthcare worker applauds you!

Excellent caring service! I've been treated for a hip flexor and hamstring injury due to running. The team has taken care of me in an excellent way. In particular, the dry needles performed by Bongyeon Shin has been very helpful in accelerating my recovery.

Bongyeon was great to work with for a persistent back issue. After a few weeks of regular appointments and home stretching I have been pain free for several months now. The entire staff, from office to therapists and assistants, is friendly, welcoming and committed to positive recuperation.

Josh Harrington was my main physical therapist at Athletico. I had very little flexibility in my neck when I began, but I now have great range of motion and can do whatever I need to do! Josh is very thorough in finding what’s wrong, then coming up with innovative solutions. Targeted massage of key areas was combined with exercises to increase flexibility and strength. Josh has a great supportive approach that motivates you to be the best you can be.

All of the staff at Althletico Libertyville from the front desk to the therapists are personable, professional and amazing. After a solid 3 months of pain, my orthopedist gave a script for OT. Little by little I made progress, however after witnessing others receive treatment with dry needling, I inquired if it might be helpful. Katie Piazzi began treatments and progress expedited rapidly thereafter. Katie was able to target areas that were likely posing additional challenges that remained from major surgery 12 years ago that were contributing to the day to day pain I was experiencing from an injury incurred 9 month ago. Katie determined the pain I was experiencing was a compound issue and that expanding the scope of the dry needling, targeting additional areas could be beneficial. She could not have been more spot on. I was at a place of avoiding use of my dominant arm for months due to severe pain. Avoidance of using this arm resulted in loss of grip strength in my dominant hand and strength exercises ensued. After 2.5 months of dry needling and strength exercises, I have little to no pain and hand strength is on its way. Katie Piazzi is a true gift to her patients and I could not be more grateful for her and all of her efforts for the relief she has brought. Harold, in the capacity of assistant, no doubt will be a gifted therapist one day upon completion of his education. He is a quick study and often delivers what is needed before even asked. Our community is very lucky to have this wonderful resource in our back yard.

I went to Athletico with knee pain after a session with an inexperienced personal trainer. I am now pain free after therapy with Mike Lezon. Everyone at this facility is very friendly and offered continuous encouragement. I highly recommend Mike Lezon.

Katie was amazing! Not only did she treat the current issue with my shoulder, she also really looked at my underlying causes and took a more wholistic, long term approach to resolving my issue permanently!

Katie Piazzi is an amazing occupational therapist! She treated the tingling and numbness in my fingers. I am a knitter and have carpel tunnel issues. She administered dry needling and various exercises. After six weeks of therapy, I am doing very well. The tingling and numbness is gone, and I am feeling stronger. By the way, the entire staff at this facility is top notch!

Mike Lezon did a great job of getting me back into shape for my soccer season. I would highly recommend Athletico Physical Therapy - Libertyville, Illinois. I think a great thing that they have going on is that it is a very positive atmosphere in the room, and I was happy to come back every week to work on strengthening myself.

My son fractured his tibia and required physical therapy to get his strength and agility back in time for high school baseball. We knew he had long road ahead . Dr. Bong and the entire Athletico team have been wonderful to work with. They were very personable and professional while helping my son reach his goals. Dr. Bong is an excellent physical therapist and is very attentive to detail making sure he used proper form with every exercise and every rep. She created an at home exercise plan to be followed as well. With hard work , determination and Dr. Bong by our side, my son’s road to recovery was a very positive experience . He looked forward to being there !! I highly recommend Dr. Bong, Josh , Stephanie and the rest of the Athletico team for all of your physical therapy needs.

I was dealing with recurring wrist soreness for a while. I eventually went in to Athletic, and once I was paired with Katie Piazzi we were able to correctly diagnose the problem. She started treating me with dry needling and gave me several stretches and exercises, and this helped these recurring aches disappear. I'm very happy with the treatment I was given and would recommend it to others who experience wrist soreness due to overwork.

Katie Piazzi is exceptional! She has helped me regain strength and address pain in both hands due to arthritis. Recently she has helped me with a shoulder injury. Her ‘dry needle’ technique has been transformative. Almost immediate pain relief and dramatic improvement in range of motion. Strong recommendation!

Josh was awesome! He, along with Stephanie, kept me working in a manor that resulted in constant steady progress. He listened to me and reformatted my workouts, as necessary, so that my pain levels did not get the best of me and reverse my progress. Couldn't be happier with where I am 4 months after a full knee replacement. Thanks Josh!!

Katie Piazzi is a very talented Occupational Therapist — she and her staff took great care of me. I learned new tools (stretching, modified behaviors, exercises) to manage my arthritis, a strained thumb ligament, and carpal tunnel issues. Katie also practices dry needling which I found helped my arthritis by relaxing the muscles in my forearms, then I could use stretching to keep them in a more relaxed state, which would lessen the arthritis symptoms in my hands. This was my first time having dry needling and I found it very helpful, I plan to do this again in the future as needed. She’s so knowledgeable about the physiology of hands/arms and how they work together — this broad knowledge helps her treat hand issues more holistically. I highly recommend her. And the friendly, positive culture in their office had me looking forward to our appointments, too!

I visited 8 times - seeking relief from a pain that seemed to migrate from knee to calf - pain behind the knee that seemed to go into my foot! I was helped by Stephanie, Niccole, and Josh. Josh spent the most time with me and he kept asking questions until I was finally able to pinpoint where I thought the pain came from. He massaged that knee into submission! What I appreciated most: I am a 75 year-old woman with inner-ear problems that make lying down on the floor difficult to do - I get very dizzy! All three therapists listened to me - altering the exercises I had to do on my own (so that I would actually do them!) I am very impressed with the healing power of Physical Therapy and with the knowledgeable people who helped me. From the young woman at the front desk - to the therapists - to the text alerts - to the flexibility of the schedules. I highly recommend this place in Libertyville - at 1352 south Milwaukee Ave. Thank you especially to the healing hands Josh!

I have worked very closely with therapists/staff of the Libertyville location as a prescribing physician and have only received positive feedback from my patients about their experience. The constant open communication between the therapists and physicians has made apparent their sincere concern for enhancing patient outcomes and advocating for patients! It has been a pleasure working with such dedicated therapists.

Katie is absolutely the best, hands down! She was very patient and supportive with my thumb/wrist rehab, had creative ways to stretch/strengthen and even custom modified my brace to achieve our healing and function goals. Highly recommend her!
