My bride and I visited Basil on an extremely cold night. While my bride has dined here before, this was a first for me. To spare you the agony of reading further, let me just say I am currently craving another Basil meal the day following and that is something I rarely experience. Basil's was exemplary. We entered through what appeared to be a side door on the south side of the building where we parked. We were promptly greeted and seated in a nice corner of the rather expansive dining area. Shortly thereafter, our server, Chelsea, provided us with coconut infused water and took our beverage order. The water had just a hint of coconut providing a nice refreshing change. After our wine and Tiger beer was served, we both ordered the Pad Kee Mao. My bride ordered it with Shrimp and I ordered mine with Beef. I was tempted to order the brisket (found on the specials menu which I failed to capture), another favorite of Chelsea's. The wide rice noodles were excellent. I was expecting a smaller noodle but these were an inch or more wide, interlaced with a thick, flavorful sauce and vegetables. The amount of beef was also more than I expected and provided a very appetizing experience. Our dishes came with a spice level of 2 on a scale of 1 - 4. While I did not notice any heat on my dish, my wife thought hers was perfect for her level of tolerance. I was provided with a small dish of extra spices to add to my dish as I desired. I will likely order a level 4 next time. We were comfortably full but I really wanted to experience more so we ordered dessert: Sticky rice with mangoes and a fried banana with Nutella. We enjoyed both but agreed we preferred the banana. The banana was wrapped in a pastry shell with Nutella, fried and sliced. It was delectable. The sticky rice was warm and sweet with freshly cut mango. Our meals were $21 for the shrimp and $19 for the beef. The desserts were $7 each. Add in the wine and imported beer and our total bill came to $70. And I can't wait to go back!

This is honestly, my favorite restaurant. I think I’ve been going there since 2016. The quality, portions, and flavor have always been amazing! Staff are always super friendly. The coconut flavoured water is super fun! They also have the best Calamari I’ve ever had! (Pad Kee Mao) is my favorite dish!

Absolutely love this place! The food is phenomenal and the portions are large so you can definitely have your choice for a couple of meals. The waitstaff is very friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting. I personally love the Pad Kee Mao with egg noodles instead of rice noodles with a spiciness level 3 out 4. I love that you can adjust the spiciness to your liking. Great food, great service! We will be back! Highly recommend this place but keep in mind they close every summer for 2 months...this year they close on June 30th and don't open until September 9th. So if you have a craving go now!

Passing through town and stopped and it was amazing! Great prompt service. Loved the pho and pad kee mao. Would definitely eat here again. Wonderful flavors. We have a Thai place that we love where we live and this definitely competes with it!

Very nice atmosphere. Extremely nice waitress. However price of lunch was outrageous. Very limited menu. Taste was ok. Bought takeout of Pad Thai for my elderly mother and upon sampling upon arriving home decided against giving to her. Not good. It was grey and not like any Pad Thai I've been accustomed to. Relied on reviews to pick this over others in Appleton area. Wont be back.

I don't know how this place gets such high ratings. Its a Vietnamese restaurant which I probably should ordered something like Pho, but I was in the mood for Pad Thai. That was a mistake... It had to be the blandest dish I have ever had in my life. Absolutely zero flavor. I even ordered it spicy, which it didn't even come out as such. The dish was made with glass noodles, not proper noodles for Pad Thai, chicken was borderline overcooked, and I didn't taste any tamarind in it. I might give this place a try if I'm in the mood for Vietnamese, but certainly not coming back for other dishes.

I have been going here since Basil's Cafe opened years ago. I have never been let down with the fresh food, unbelievable noodles, great Vietnamese coffee, and unique appetizers. We keep coming back and are always happy with our order - one of the few places that offer this level of quality cuisine.

This place has improved over time. I was really impressed with the whole menu — I couldn’t decide what to order. When our server made some suggestions we were happy with everything. Definitely returning to try more dishes!

Positively wonderful. We had never been here before and the staff were so informative and friendly. From the coconut water to the crispy quail, everything was fantastic. “Mom” as they call the owner was very hands on and came to check on us a couple times and give us great information on how to enjoy the food authentically (like how to eat the quail bones!). This is clearly a well run establishment with an owner that cares about her employees and guests.

The food was a C+ if that. I have never had papaya salad with pork rinds and raw cabbage. My wife's Pad Thai tasted burnt, or as if the bottom of the wok was scraped too much. They didn't use Pad Thai noodles, but skinny ones. Waitress didn't even ask for spice level. Sparse on peanuts. Flavorless. My Brother in Law had beef and broccoli and noodles that were way too thick and heavy. The thing of it is, the food wasn't bad, it just wasn't all that great. A year ago, the food was great, what happened, too much time off? Thanks for your reply. Will try again. Thanks.

Delicious food and wonderful service! This place was so good. The egg rolls perfect. The sticky rice was delicious. The mok gai chicken was amazing. Fork tender in a great sauce. My son loved it here!!! Definitely going back again!

The staff is always so friendly and the food is so good it's sinful. They have never once missed on any trip I've ever taken here. Also I'd just like to say that their menu names for things are absolutely top notch and I love these guys for it so much (ex. Their house old fashioned is 'I'm sorry miss Jackson, I am pho real') Stop in and give em some love, these people absolutely deserve it. They really do make it a good experience it's worth a shot if you haven't popped in.

I didn't really like it here. I got the mango boba tea and it tasted fishy. Like seriously, it tasted like fish every time I took a sip. I asked my sister if that is normal and she said no. I didn't say anything about it because I wasn't sure if it was seaweed or what. The food honestly wasn't the greatest either. I got one of the vegetarian dishes (pictured) and was not impressed. The spring rolls were good but the flavor for the dish just wasn't there. The friend that I went with has literally lived in Vietnam and said the food here was really not that good. The funny thing is, I have always heard good things about this place but I personally won't return.

Authentic Laotian, Vietnamese, and Thai in a colorful and warm atmosphere. The flavors are balanced and vibrant. And the cocktail program is inventive. Currently ranked #1 on my list of good food in Appleton.

The beef from the mansa was incredibly cheap not even the curry that comes with it could override the flavour however, the nuggets are so very delicious so that saved it from a 2/5 stars to a 3/5 stars. The purple drink I had (I can't remember the name) really didn't taste like anything but lime juice so that was a 2/10, being generous. The entrance was quite notably the worst, confusing and out of place to say the least. A pretty decent waiting area and really nice atmosphere only complaint here is the music they chose to play, I feel like an instrumental would be the best option instead on hip-hop music in a Thai/Vietnamese restaurant. Overall a 3/5 stars, it's decent but I probably wouldn't go there again.

The absolute best food and best people… how it’s taken me literal years to write a review is both a mystery and a disgrace. Do not waste any more time reading reviews, just go there, it’s too good to describe with any accuracy. I would do unspeakable things for the Sai Oua, Ba Mee Tom Yum, Signature Tilapia with red curry and Kow Boon. You literally cannot go wrong. Go try it ya ding dong!

I love the food at Basil Cafe! It is hands down the best Thai and Laotian food I have ever eaten. It has been my go to restaurant for the last four years despite driving an hour round trip to eat there. That being said, over the course of the last year their portions have shrunk drastically and prices just keep going up (not to mention that the prices they have posted online are lower than what they are charging). At this point, I won't be coming back. Between the up charges for things that used to be included and the fact that the portion sizes are so small I leave hungry, it's not worth it any more.

We adore Basil Cafe and like to show it off to our visiting out of town friends. They're great fir lunch, dinner and carryout and... the meals are always hot, top notch. We are lucky to have this amazing restaurant in our community.

Delicious food in a peaceful atmosphere! I had the phó and it was really good. A little on the pricey side, but portion sizes make up for it.
