I am an employee of Rush University Medical Center and I am very disturbed and disappointed in the treatment given in the E.R. I came in with chronic pain to my left rib cage. I had an xray done earlier in the day and it came back with concerning report. I went into triage and then they placed me in a separate area for Covid patients. I informed them that the issue was not Vovid related. The area had dirty stiff chairs and they were too hard to sit in. I informed the nurse and she was ignorant with a nasty attitude and told me well that's the only option for you. Never offered another option just stated that all ICU beds were full and that there was an 6 hour wait time. They never tested me for Covid mind you. Then proceeded to tell me that they were protecting themselves. . I have worked in the medical field for over 20years in diagnostic care and I have never been treated with such insulting behavior before in my life.

The worst experience ever! My husband came in with BP 201/124 and we sat waiting from 12p-9:30p and still wasn’t officially seen by a doctor. Rush needs to change their name to “No Rush” because the way they handle and respond to emergency care is sickening. There was a man waiting right along with us that was bleeding from his tush and belly and they showed the same lack of concern. The only ones that seemed bothered by the wait for us was the admitting staff and security. You’re better off booking an appointment with your primary doctor because you’ll get seen sooner by your doctor than coming here waiting to get seen. The other insulting part is waiting 10 hours and having to pay a $150 co-pay for nothing to be. The nurse staff told us their standard wait time is 12-16 hours and they go by what is most urgent. Which is even more of a slap in the face because a BP 201/124 is life threatening last I checked. I’m utterly disgusted with this place and would tell anyone who asks to trust any other medical facility other than this one.

If I could give this ER zero stars I would. I met my brother here because he ruptured his pec muscle. He was in severe pain and all he was given was an ice pack that we had to ask multiple times to replace. Took a few hours for an X-ray, and then a few hours after waiting for the doctor. We didn’t even wait any longer to see the doctor. The staff and nursing staff at the front were cold and dismissive. Basically didn’t say anything when we asked how much longer and just told us to sit down. For such a well known hospital, you’d think they would have a much better system for the ER. Rush ER is a joke, please don’t come here if you seriously need help. They actively tell people when they come in that the wait is 9 hours.

The operator will not connect you to a loved one in need admitted to the hospital and when they connect to their unit there is not even one nurse that will pick up to assist whatsoever. Leaves you feeling desperate and helpless and wanting to pull out your hair. Patient advocates and loved ones (and patients) deserve better!!!

I arrived at Rush Emergency Room at 6:00. A half hour later, I was taken to triage. They sent me out to wait in the waiting room where I waited until 12:00 at which time I went to find out when I will be called. Their usual response , “we are busy. We will call you.” Again at 3:30, I went t ask where was my place in line at which point a technician came out to take my vitals again. This time he said they will call if my vitals look bad. At 5:00, I went to check again and the front desk nurse told me it will not be before 7:00 before they call me. Can someone please explain what is going on at Rush? Perhaps if the CEO’s or an ER administrator’s number were posted so that the patients could complain, these people would do their jobs in a timely manner. By the way, it is 5:35, and I am still in the waiting Room. Where does Rush get its rating? Do they create their own rating?

Rush Emergency Room: “THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE IN AN EMERGENCY ROOM.” The doctor on duty takes an average of “12 HOURS” to see you and this has been happening as I found out for more than a year. I went on Thursday, September 21, 2023, I arrived at 8:30pm and decided to leave at 4am after hearing a desperate man telling the “nurse” he had “13 HOURS” sitting in the waiting room and no doctor had checked him. I went to talk to the nurse to find out what was happening because all the people that were there when I came in where not being taken care of, they were all just sitting in the waiting room, she told me that I had to wait my turn because there were people who had arrived more than 12 hours before me and had not seen the doctor. I told her that in emergencies they treat people according to the severity of their condition, not in the order in which they arrive. My answer bothered her so much that she told me that things had changed a lot in the last 2 years in all the hospitals in Chicago, but that I had no idea. I told her that she’s the one sitting every day in front of a computer doing the same thing in a hospital that is not even a “Trauma Center” where they receive ambulances with people involved in shootings and all kinds of accidents and yet it doesn’t take them 13 hours to treat a sick person waiting in the emergency room. Rush Hospital and its staff are excellent when you have a scheduled surgery or an appointment for testing. The emergency department is the complete opposite. If you check the Google comments of the Emergency room, the list of negative comments is endless and some that were responded by the hospital say exactly the same thing, an automatic response with the same excuse. Obviously nothing is going to change because people are complaining for over a year about the same issue.

I Usually don't write review bu i have to tell this. The worse service that I have ever received in my life. My baby is so sick and they made me wait for more than 3 hours and I was requesting them if they could tell me the exact time I have to wait but they said they were not sure. I wasn't expecting to wait that long, I was hungry my baby was hungry I couldn't take it anymore and I said please cancel it and they said okay so easily and I left. I would never recommend them ever in my life. poor customer service. they don't care at all. my 2 year old was coughing all the hell time there.. I am literally cursing those people right now.I thought Rush was the best among anyone but they gave me such a bad experience today that I would never recommend to any of my friends or families or anyone that I know of for sure. They really need to hire someone with better customer service skills and the nurses too.

ER wait time is over 7 HOURS!!!! They triage you and immediately bill your insurance company as a ER visit. When I attempted to leave they told me that even though I didn’t see a doctor that I would still be billed $450 for a nurse taking vitals. As I waited there it was an elderly woman with blood clots and MS that they had slouched over in a wheelchair for hours with no treatment and another guy who came in with a large open wound with blood gushing out who they also made wait and get blood all over the waiting area. This is ridiculous and patients should be treated with better care.

absolutely unacceptable. came in at 1:30am and the place was packed. the check in was so rude. i just had surgery and have stage 4 pancreatic cancer and wasn’t complaining at all. simply explained the situation, but i still got an attitude and some woman with gallstones who was wailing in “agony” came in after me and was seen first. don’t be afraid to just walk out if it’s longer than 20 minutes before anyone even sees you. shameful

I was blown off by the intake staff. I sat for 4 hours in the waiting room-was 3 days after a total knee replacement. I gave up and flew home the next day. I was bleeding internally and am lucky to be alive. No response from the hospital when I tried to give feedback. Find another ER.

Doctor Gallagher (spell check) is a great doctor and so is the rest of his staff, they made me feel human… if you have been to Jackson park or trinity hospital lately you will know what I mean. Some lady in the waiting room that took my blood, was a little to excited to tell me “well idk why you left trinity, you’re going to have to wait 10 hours to be seen.” She tells me this while I’m literally crying in pain. I hope she wasn’t trying to get to me to leave… thank you to whoever made the choice to not leave me in the waiting room crying in pain. And to that lady I hope she’s never in a emergency and they try to make her wait 10 hours like it’s no big deal..

I went to rush for a routine check up and things went wrong so the doctor had me transported to their ER. After arriving at the ER It was clear that the receptionist didn’t read any info that was sent over by the doctor. After about 4hours of waiting i was taking to the back for a EKG and a few other test. The staff was more interested in getting the copay amount versus getting the testing done. After testing I was taken back out into the waiting area where I waited an additional 3 hours before calling a family member to come and pick me up. I will be sure to avoid this hospital at all cost.

Came with my partner, a chemo patient at the cancer center who was told to come in by his oncologist after spiking a fever and having debilitating migraines. We were told up front that there were no rooms, but we would be considered high priority. He had a CAT scan, and we were sent to the waiting room. We’re still here, five hours later. They keep calling for the same name every twenty minutes over the course of the last three hours. There are people here who came before us, who have not been called from the waiting room once since 7pm. A man next to me was called over the speakers, was in a wheelchair and called for help, and nobody came. I pushed him to the front. Have sat through two different folks throwing up in the waiting room, as flu and COVID cases rise (and my partner sits with low white/red blood cells and virtually no immune system). My partner’s hands started to swell, and we let the Greet Nurse know. They informed us we’d go back for a vital update…we may just go home and try the Cancer Center Urgent Care in the morning.

The worst emergency room experience, I have ever experienced the staff is careless and the Quality of care at Rush is extremely poor. The Staff at ER Registration lied to me for hours telling me , I was next to be seen to only wait for 8 hours in the Er with my blood pressure elevated due to the excruciating pain, I was experiencing. I was told many hours later by the Er staff they had no clue when I would be seen. Do not go to rush Er if you have a medical emergency there is no sense of urgency with the staff for your medical emergencies.

I went into the ER with stomach pain around 7am. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and patient as I checked in for care. Luckily, when I was there, they weren't very busy yet and I was able to receive some help and a room pretty quickly. Everyone that helped me that day took amazing care of me. Every single person was friendly, caring, and explained everything in an easy to understand way. While, of course, things weren't super speedy; they were able to get me out of the ER by noon. There were multiple RNs and doctors that stopped by to check on me, it really made me feel so much better to have them all there for me. I was really scared for my first ER experience but the staff here was amazing.

This was hands down the best ER experience I’ve ever had in my life. I avoid the ER like the plague because of long wait times and poor experiences elsewhere. But when I went to a convenient care center yesterday for severe calf pain following knee surgery, they told me I have no other option but to go to the Rush ER to get an ultrasound to check for DVT, which can be fatal if you have it. The staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable, listened to me, and were very empathetic. The doctors were incredibly thorough. They not only did an ultrasound to check for DVT, but also checked for a few other things like emboli, and other terms I don’t remember, to ensure my vessels and arteries were not blocked. I was very impressed by this ER and caliber of the professionals working here. I’ll continue to go to Rush hospital for any other health issues that may arise while I’m living in Chicago, including a cartilage repair surgery in a few months.

Would never return to this ER after our experience tonight. I understand and respect the unprecedented burden on medical staff due to covid-19, but you would think by now Rush would somehow have a system figured out in their emergency department to deal with emergency situations. Long story short, we just waited 8 hours to receive care for a head injury. Yes, you read that right. 8 hours. For a HEAD INJURY. Insanely rude desk staff just added insult to injury. Would only ever return to this ER if i were brought there in an ambulance & had no say in the matter. Go to any other ER in the city if you truly need care for an emergency, because at Rush they don’t give a s***.

I wish I could give this place a negative star but that's not an option. Rush ER is not the same from a few years ago. The employees here have horrible customer service and no empathy or sympathy. A nurse asked everyone's last name and wrote them down on a piece of paper. I thought that what Registration is for. AFTER waiting for 7hr I just walked out. Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME THERE IF YOU LIVE A PRODUCTIVE LIFE.

Hospital patient care along with medical knowledge & capabilities, in general, has significantly advanced over the years. Rush is a LEADER in this ministry of medicine and care. Rush ER is TOP NOTCH 10 plus star care. Thank you to ALL the employees in their various roles for your service and ministry. Ignore all these entitled - first world brats -and their petty complaints. Boohoo. Everyone didn't smile at you. It is not a hotel or day spa! It's a hospital emergency room that exists to save lives and teach others to do the same. The security person and registrar are NOT your servants. The doctor or nurse who seemed distant or didn't smile according to your expectations, is exhausted! And again, NOT your personal servant!! Maybe you didn't really need the ER. That's why YOU waited while people who did were seen to first. You're here writing b.s. on google so, obviously you lived. Ungrateful brats.

Please live healthily. 请健康生活。 Many friends told me that their parents were killed by hospitals and nursing home during the Covin 19 Pendamic. My aunt was one of the victims, so was my father. The doctor of the Rush University Medical Center told my father, Zufu Wang, that the reason my father lost his voice and had dry feet was due to his heart problem. My father told me that he did not want to have heart surgery by Facetime. I tried to see my father in person. The securities of the Rush University Medical Center forced me out of their facility. Even though police arrived to help me to visit my father, the front desk of the Rush University Medical Center rejected our request by the reason of POA that included my sister, mother, and wife. Eventually, my father's heart was operated. However, his voice was still not recovered and his feet were dry. Furthermore, the doctor forced my father to keep taking many deadly chemical medications, which included Aspirin, etc. His left hand was injected plenty of Anesthetics. Consequently, his left hand is not able to move at all. Finally, called police to save my father from nursing home, Astoria Place and Warren Barr South Loop. All my father needs is healthy food only, bath, happy songs and sunlight. The fact proves the truth. The doctors, social workers of Rush Hospital, Astoria Place and Warren Barr South Loop threatened my father to sign contracts for taking plenty of mental medications. Rush医院, Astoria Place 和 Warren Barr South Loop疗养院的医生和社工逼阿爸签生死壮后喂食了大量精神化学药品.

Everything about this ER is disgusting from the facility to the staff. This is definitely an establishment built of people that could careless about patients and their treatment. The bedside manner is completely horrible. Rush hospital should properly staff and get all new staff within the ER department! Good luck with keeping the doors open! The nurse and registration ladies were arguing back and forth with one another at the front desk within the waiting room loudly in front of all patients!

TL;DR IF YOU'RE HAVING A TRUE MEDICAL EMERGENCY, FIND ANOTHER ER!! $300 and a waste of hours of our time to not get seen. Went to the ER with my partner last week as she was having bad stomach cramps and pain lasting for days. We went there after a referral from a local Urgent Care clinic, so she got vitals taken after maybe a half hour and nothing after that. We were charged $300 (despite her having health insurance), and told to wait in the waiting room with dozens of other patients. When we had first arrived, I overheard an elderly woman in a wheelchair being told the current wait time was 17 hours; that should've been my red flag right away. We were never given an actual time estimate, but we got vitals taken relatively quickly and assumed it wouldn't be too long of a wait. Alas, after that we waited for over 7 hours with no updates. None of the staff coming through had any idea how long the wait time would be, no other patients were even called in at that time. I should note this was a fairly small area to pack so many people, not to mention we were right near an entrance where COVID-positive patients seemed to be coming in and out. Talk about a health hazard, especially considering most of the people waiting to be seen were sick or elderly. And it's not like we could've went to the car to wait our turn; your name is called out a few times as they randomly take attendance, and if you're not there for roll call you're struck from the list. So, we waited for 7-8 hours and around 2am we finally decided we were too uncomfortable and tired to keep waiting. My partner went home and booked a telehealth appointment with her PCP the next day (technically that same day). IT WAS LITERALLY EASIER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A DOCTOR THAN TO GO TO AN "EMERGENCY" ROOM. When we contacted Customer Service later that week to ask for a refund as we were never seen, it was then revealed to us that the $300 charge was for a nurse taking vitals specifically. Incredulously, we asked for confirmation; $300 for vitals when that'd be completely covered during a visit with a PCP? And here's the kicker, they left us on read. We'll continue pursuing a refund for our hardships, but truly this is nothing short of a scam. Let me make this very clear: Rush doesn't care about your health. Rush just wants your money. I'm sure the doctors and staff care about people, but there was no system in place to ensure patients were seen in a timely fashion or even communicated with. If you're having a real medical emergency, I'm begging you to go elsewhere. If you're sitting in that waiting room right now, leave and find another ER.

Do not come here if you have an emergency… my doctor sent me here for a potential heart attack and stroke and I’ve been waiting for 3 1/2 hours and haven’t been seen. This is after I waited 4 1/2 hours on Saturday and left. If I would’ve been properly treated then I would not be in this medical emergency. When escalating to a supervisor she basically said they are understaffed and cannot support the volume of patients and that’s why there’s 8 hour class wait times. Find another emergency room and never use rush!!!

Been waiting over 4 hours to be seen for a level 2 issue. Level 2 issues should be seen within 10 min. People with sprained ankles have been taken back to be examined before me. Horrible experience here.

As an administrator of a school I understand the importance of health and safety protocols, which is why my experience today in the Rush Emergency Room disturbs and disappoints me as a patient. After, hours of waiting (which I anticipated) I decided to leave after watching a member of the housekeeping team pick up an empty sandwich container, tissue/paper, and an empty water bottle and wrapped it in a blanket left behind by a patient. She then placed all items in the soiled laundry bin. She did not sanitize any of the surfaces in the area. She left behind other random items (popcorn, abandoned travel mug, small pieces of paper) under chairs and pulled some trash before leaving the area. As the room began to fill with more patients, I made the tough decision to leave because the thought of Covid and Monkey Pox scared me more than my asthma attack. I believe this visit will cause me to find another health care provider.

I’m giving this place 1 star because there are some good doctors there and I understand the medical field but this is not a good review. My whole experience with Rush and how they treated my auntie while she was fighting for her life was the worst. For starters none of the doctors are on the same page, they kept moving her around on different floors and I believe they are responsible for my auntie’s health declining. I advise people to not take their family members there who suffer from cancer because they don’t know what their doing. They can’t treat symptoms as simple as nausea and told me and my family that there was nothing else that they could do to help her and then they kicked out on her death bed. THIS IS THE WORST HOSPITAL and they can expect a lawsuit.

Currently here and hating it. Only here because my main hospital is too from home. I’ve encountered a combination of cold, inattentive, and cold staff. I’ve been told by separate “medical professionals” that they’re waiting on a urinalysis. Meanwhile I was never asked for a urine sample lol. Told them that, provided a sample and it’s just been sitting around untested. Current nurse keeps making sarcastic, non funny jokes despite me clearly not reacting to them. I’ve been awake for about 12 hours on an uncomfortable cot — no beds available after being told one was getting ready “soon.” At one point I was given folded sheets for a pillow. While one nurse could not provide me an actual pillow, another nurse provided one quickly with no problem.

My doctor recommended I go to the ER, I got there at 4:30PM they check you in to Bill your insurance, 9:45pm comes and I still have not been seen. If they are that busy, they should tell you ahead of time. They don't even let you know how many people are ahead of you to give you some idea if you're going to be there forever ! Very frustrating, makes me even sicker!

This is a great hospital. Unfortunately opioid addiction and people using the emergency room for routine care has placed strain on a hospital already short staffed. If not bleeding, vomiting or have broken bones don't go to the emergency room because they make patients wait at least 12hrs

I was taken to Rush University medical center due to an extreme infection. When arriving to the ER, I only had to spend 5 minutes on registration, I was instantly taken back to triage, and was admitted and had a hospital bed upstairs all within 2-3 hours of arrive to the ER. I do want to caution I arrived in the early afternoon on a Saturday, so my sole experience will not reflect the ER at all times.

Seeing all the negative experiences inclines me to share both of my positive experiences with the ER department here at Rush. I have been here twice, late at night. The first time was because my son had hurt his leg and needed to get it checked out. He was received promptly, and all of the doctors/nurses we encountered were nothing but kind. My second time coming here, we came from UI which had a 9 hour wait time, and were in a room less than 20 minutes later. Our ER nurse was able to get us pain relief for my partner who was experiencing excruciating pain. The staff were all very kind despite being so busy, and we appreciated this immensely. Should I ever have to come back, we will again be choosing Rush. Thank you again to their excellent staff!!

The entire day wasted with no help. We brought my niece to this ER for the double vision issue. Initially blood work was done. After which we had to wait for 7 hrs to get the ER doc to check eyes. The doc didn’t find any issues and recommended Neurology l. But hospital denied to provide any Nero help as they don’t have Pediatric Neurologist. So we came out without any help from the hospital. We will never go to Rush.

If you value your life or your loved ones you will run not walk away from this ER. Waited over 5 hours with severe stomach pain and was told there were 14 others ahead of me with that waited 14 or more hours which is inhumane. This place should be shut down, no human being should be treated this way. I ended up leaving and going to Sinai hospital 6 minutes away and was seen right away. I’ll never make the mistake of going to this ER ever again and I hope you don’t either.
