A historical castle located within the Balzers region of Liechtenstein, that is supposed to allow entry to the entire castle for visitors. When we visited on 31 Jul, only the entrance and side area were accessible, and we were not able to proceed into the inner area or into the castle's interior. Still, the castle provides a magnificent viewpoint of the surrounding area and the alps, with stunning view for photo opportunities. The architecture is also quite amazing and suits tourists who are historical and architectural buffs. I recommend visiting the St Nicholas church at the bottom of the hill first, before hiking up the trail next to the church to reach the castle. The hike is quite easy (about 30 minutes), though wearing shoes is recommended. You can take Bus 11 to drop nearby, though you should probably visit other places in Liechtenstein first before making this castle the end of your itinerary before heading to Sargans. Worth a visit, but would not say it's a must as you only can access certain areas plus there are no English signs.

Beautiful landscape and magnificent view from the top but only the external yard of the castle can be visited. There is a poster with some historical explanation in German. From the parking near the church below it is five minutes' walk on a nice path uphill.

A very lovely castle and the history behind it is well explained. A garden area is open to the public on a weekend. My bf and I were there on a weekday and we really enjoyed a stunning view of Liechtenstein, as well as some details of the castle. Surrounded by vineyards and the castle stirs your imagination too. A short hike up to the castle. A must visit if you are in the country. Even overcast, it is beautiful .

Gutenberg Castle (German: Burg Gutenberg) is an intact castle in the town of Balzers, Liechtenstein, in the centre of the municipality of Balzers, the southern-most municipality in the country. Gutenberg is one of the five castles of the principality and one of two that have survived intact until the present day. Unlike Vaduz Castle, Gutenberg Castle does not serve as a residence of the princely family of Liechtenstein and is open to the general public as a museum. The castle lies on a 70 metre high free-standing rock near the centre of Balzers and is accessible via a street and road known as Burgweg #five_star_california ✨🪸

We visited this castle in September of 2023. It has a nice location with beautiful views from the castle grounds. However, one cannot visit the living quarters which was disappointing. There also were no open restaurants in the immediate area for which we were not prepared.

Beautiful castle stood on a small hill-top with a long and rich history. Do a small walk to get up to the castle and are the town below.

Beautiful view. It's a lovely castle from the outside but seems like it could use some love as it needs some repairs. We couldn't get inside as it was closed.

Great castle. Some parts are open to the public. Good views of the Alps and a very well maintained place.

The castle is the main landmark of Balzers and stands there from around 1300. After being owned for centuries by the Habsburgs and briefly by the municipality of Balzers, it was acquired in 1905 by the Vaduz based architect and sculptor Egon Rheinberger, who rebuilt it in romance style giving it the present day appearance. Normally it is not possible to visit the inside, but you could do it through the augmented reality experience of the Liechtenstein Trail app.

Wonderful hiking experience. Great view from the top and downhill. Entry point to the castle was tricky, can be accessed from couple of location, there were no proper instructions for entry point. But from church side is easier.

I came at a strange time there, there were people laying around on the ground. But it was very interesting nonetheless.

The castle is the best in Liechtenstein. When I had gone it was not possible to visit much inside. More than castle, the view from caste was amazing. So you should never miss visiting it if you are visiting Liechtenstein.

Beautiful castle on a hill, but parking is tough (park by the church if you can't find a place where Google Maps recommends). And you can't go in unless you book a tour two weeks in advance. So there isn't too much to see. But it's a beautiful vista and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Beautiful castle. So nice to put ourselves closer to history by enjoying these moments in places with so much known history. We walked around and we could get in because we went really early but the view was beautiful and everything there was so nice, the little walk to get in top of the mountain. Lots of wild animals. The church next to it with the songs from the bell. So nice.
