A chance to walk in history, built by Richard the Lionheart. It was destroyed but rebuilt on the original site, this is the castle you look around. It gives you a look at how it was like. Well worth a couple of hours to visit.

Super nice castle in the area that is worth the visit. Entrance was cheap and lots to see with tons of history. One of many along the coastline. It over watched the coast and sits high enough to see for a long time.

Very interesting building surroundings (old trees, sugar and olive mills). Just a couple of steps over the ancient Roman viaduct there is also a very old cute chapel.

Whilst 2.5 euro may be insignificant, I felt them wasted on this as compared to many other equally priced sites around the island. The Castle’s history (originally built by Frankish military in the 13th century, taken by the Templars in 1306 but returned to Hospitallers after their abolition, a strategically important both stronghold and centre of sugar production in the Middle Ages) promised a lot ‘on paper’ but didn’t deliver IRL. There were no signs, exhibits, nothing but a well-preserved building and decent rooftop views.

This castle is remarkably well-preserved, offering a glimpse into historical architecture and design. The facility is complemented by a large parking area and clean restrooms, enhancing the visitor experience. Its intriguing features make it a worthwhile destination for those interested in history and old structures. Definitely a place to visit for an interesting and convenient exploration.

The castle is in perfect condition! It has coats of arms in several places. I was impressed, especially by a drawbridge at the entrance and a long spiral staircase. The roof is accessible to visitors, so you can imagine yourself as a castle defender.

Kolossi Castle is well worth a visit. Built in the 13th Century with a long history of rulers. Including King Richard the Lionheart who came to Kolossi to marry Lady Berengaria. The castle itself is well preserved, and includes a painting of the crucifixion and original fireplaces. The grounds have a church, an aqueduct and a well. Plus the biggest, oldest tree I have ever seen. Said to be over 1000 years old. You cannot appreciate the huge size of the tree till you stand under it. The only thing that let's it down is that the grounds are not very well maintained. Also being a three storey high castle, there are lots of steps.

Beautiful medieval castle and garden, be sure to climb to the top for a great view! Fun fact: the Cyprus-UK border is only a few feet away from the castle, it passes through the middle of the parking lot. There is also a border marker nearby(there are no border checkpoints or signs though)

Nice little historic exploration. Lovely views up the top and quite a nice little walk around. Smaller then I thought but a nice place to stop for half an hour and walk around.

If you go to Cyprus and like castles, i recommend. You can go there by bus or if you rent a car. There's also an entrance for wheelchair users, but apart from that the castle isnt accessible. If you want you can also walk around the castle The ticket is very cheap. The surrounding place and the toilets are clean. Theres things to read in every room Be careful of the circle staircase, cause it's somewhat steep to use.

We were on our way to Osmodos(?) And stopped off here for a break. Really nice and very well preserved. The black lines on the walls is staining from olive oil. They heated it and used it to defend the castle by pouring it onto the invaders

Really enjoyed Kolossi Castle, parking close by and fair entrance fee. Lots of information boards around telling you the history of the castle and surrounding features. The spiral staircase is hard to negotiate if busy so take your time and wait for the coach parties to leave. Fabulous views from the top.

Nice, pleasant and quick. The biggest impression made a huge acacia in the garden with supported branches. The old castle is just ruins. Also ruins of the sugar mill was pretty interesting. In the new tower wall thickness is impressive. They had to be really scared in the past. Entrance 2,5€. Time around 30 minutes.

A short visit whilst on a one day stop in Cyprus whilst on a cruise. An interesting site to visit. There is a small gift shop and cafe which we did not use. There are toilet facilities.

Very well preserved citadel of the crusaders on a few floors. Each floor has a sign with more information about the layout and it's usage. Tickets are just 2.5 euro per person so it is worth visiting it for a short walk.

This castle is great and shaped like a cute lamington cake! There isn't much inside and it's a bit out of the way, but the building looks cute and the entrance fee is just €2.5

Cool little castle to visit if you have some extra time on your visit to limassol. If you climb to the top of the castle you will see some nice views of some wineries and the town close by. They also have lovely rose gardens to see.

The Castle The original phase of the Castle is moor probably dated to the beginning of the 13th century when Kolossi was given to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Hospitallers) by the Lusignan King Hugh I. Remains of this original phase are still preserved in the east, south, southeast and west side of the Castle. In 1454, the Grand Commander of the Order, Louis de Magnac, built a new stronger castle that can be seen today. This is a stone-built three-storey Castle, 21 m in height with walls 1.25 m thick. Its four sides are 16 m long externally and 13.5 m long internally. The ground floor, including two underground water cisterns, was probably used for storage. Entrance to the first floor is possible via a drawbridge. On the interior fanade of the south wall of one of the large halls of the first floor, a wall-painting of the Crucifixion dated to the 15th century is preserved, as well as the coat-of-arms of Louis de Magnac on the lower left corner. These suggest that the room served as a place of worship, whereas the next hall with the fireplace probably served as the main area for dining and entertaining. The two rooms of the second floor were used for accommodation. On the terrace, there is a machicolation and battlements. However, the Castle was used primarily as a residence and headquarters for the Order rather than for the defence of the Kingdom.

Wonderful Crusader castle. Could have done with a bit more information, but based on the entry price for an old age pensioner (50%) it is hard to complain!

It's a nice place to visit. Doesn't cost much (2,50€) and you can spend around half an hour here. At the top you have a nice view.

Splendid Medieval castle, not a museum though. I recommend reading all info signs, because there are no exhibits in or outside the castle. There is an ancient aqueduct and ruins of a water mill and sugar plant next to the castle.

A good place to stop or visit if you are visiting other ancient places in the area. A small site so doesn’t take too long to visit. Some steep steps to get to the top. Very cheep entry fee and children are free.

Interesting medieval castle with crusading history. The entrance is only 2.50euros so definitely worth visiting! Very well preserved for a medieval defensive fortress.

  • 3/5 Alex L. 1 year ago on Google
It's a bare building, if you know what I mean. Not much to see, just lots of steps to walk up and down. If you're an enthusiast of simple, rustic brick buildings, then come here, otherwise, it's a meh... I reckon there are many other parts of Cyprus that are worth spending more time at. Unless you have oodles of time, I'd recommend you skip this castle.

Not for people who have mobility problems as it's narrow and steep without handrails. Surroundings are lovely. Children will love it.

  • 4/5 David C. 1 year ago on Google
The view from the top of the castle is fantastic and it's grounds make for a very interesting stroll. The winding staircase to the top is very thin and might not be everyone, especially anyone with balance issues or vertigo! Outside is a fantastic little cafe, beautifully kept with flowers etc. Highly recommend that too. It's very cheap entry price for the castle too.

Stopped of here on an arranged tour. Interesting place, but empty inside, not many artefacts to see. Climb to the top is very dangerous, as one very steep spiral staircase with no control on who goes up and down, this causes crossovers in a very tight space. Views from the top very good.

Beautiful castle to visit. Very impressed how well cared for it is. Lovely and cool inside as the walls are so thick.. x

An enjoyable visit, my children were entertained (6 and 9), spent around 1 hour there. A good number of posters with information, and an interactive screen in basement. Visited on a quiet day, so space to explore and no queues. Only 2-50 per adult, free for children.

The castle is nice, but it is not clear why it us famous. There are no signs with explanations. There is an interactive board which shows a short video which only says that the castle was used for defence. It is also not clear how the rooms were used, why they are this shape. There is a rooftop with a 360 view from it. The stairs inside is very steep, definitely not for elderly people or small children. There is a parking nearby
