My family of three had a great day touring the Boyne Valley with Michael Fox. Normally, I would be inclined to drive myself on a tour like this, but I'm very happy to have chosen Michael's tour. He was recommended to us by the visitor's center in Drogheda. I asked Michael to include visits to Mellifont Abbey, Monasterboice, Kells, Loughcrew Cairns, Trim Castle, Bective Abbey, and the Hill of Tara. I didn't expect to be able to get to them all, but he made it happen and then some. Michael adapted the day around the weather and our interests. Since the day started with fog, he suggested a sequence that saved sites with long distance views until later in the day when the fog cleared. Michael learned what we liked along the way and added a few other stops to show us places we might not normally stop -- including a short visit for my daughter to meet some donkeys (which she loved!). Michael is extremely knowledgeable of all these sites. He walked the sites with us and gave us a complete narrative -- much more than if you visited these sites on your own. He knows exactly where to go and when you should deviate from the beaten path to get a better perspective. He also gave us excellent suggestions for more activities to try during our other days in the area. He even took pictures along the way and emailed them to us later. Michael was very sensitive to the challenges covid can bring to a tour like this. He let us dictate our comfort level with masks, etc. He was also nimble along the way as he adjusted to various amenities being closed (toilets, restaurants, etc.) due to covid. Overall, we are very happy that we chose Michael and Boyne Valley Tours. With so much history in the Boyne Valley, this was a case where it was definitely worth it to have an experienced tour guide like Michael.

Michael from Boyne Valley Tours is truly in a class of his own. I have never had a guide go to such lengths to make a custom tour fit our requests so exactly! In addition to perfect activities and sites, Michael is very pleasant and full of knowledge of the area. It was more like we were being shown around by a friend than by a hired guide. Yes, this area of the country is beautiful, and you will probably enjoy seeing it however you get there. Boyne Valley Tours, though, takes everything to the next level, shows you sites you would never see on your own (which also means fewer crowds) and gives the perfect amount of commentary to help you appreciate the area you are visiting. I will be forever grateful for helping make this special trip even more extraordinary. The day we spent on this tour will never be forgotten. (So, stop reading reviews and just book this tour!!)

Michael’s tour was great! He picked us up & dropped us off at our hotel in Dublin. We did a full day Boyne Valley tour centered mainly on megalithic sites, and he was extremely knowledgeable & helpful showing us the major sites and some well off then beaten path. In discussions of megalithic art and early Christian sites, I asked about Sheela-na-gigs. Within 10 minutes he was showing us one on private property where he knew the owner! Highly rated!!!

My husband & I had an outstanding experience with Michael as our driver & guide to the great Neolithic & historic sites in the Boyne Valley, north of Dublin over a two day period. His knowledge of & how he explained the passage tombs & other sites was easy to understand. Michael is very personable & easy going. We highly recommend him for a very scenic & educational tour. My husband & I are a senior couple from the USA & this is our first trip to Ireland. What a great first impression!

The best part of my trip to Ireland was the day my cousin and I spend with Michael Fox and Boyne Valley Tours. Michael knows history and I love history. He took us to places I could only imagine and embellished the experience with his knowledge of each place he took us. But the thing I enjoyed most was that he personalized the tour for us. We talked a lot, ate lunch together and I left feeling like I had a new friend. There is no higher tribute I can give. Michael is the best at what he does. He knows where to take to you and what to tell you. I highly recommend Michael and Boyne Valley Tours for the experience of a lifetime.

Tremendous experience! Myself and two friends were looking to see and learn more about Ireland's historic sights, and I couldn't have been happier with how Michael took us through everything from Newgrange to Slane Castle to the first Celtic Cross. His knowledge and expertise further enhanced all that he took us through -- much better than if we were on our own seeing these sights. If you're hesitant to book a private tour, I say do it. Traveling with Michael was like traveling with another friend. Highly, highly recommend.

Irish Indiana Jones Michael Fox was born in the same Drogheda hospital as Pierce Brosnan - aka James Bond. Fox, though, is more like a fusion of Bond and Indiana Jones, and touring with him makes my brother and I feel like explorers on an Irish adventure. The adventure begins when a sleek, dark car appears outside of the Inn where we are staying. Behind the wheel is Fox. Michael Fox. He holds the passenger door open and we slip inside. We glide past charming country cottages on winding, hedge lined roads. Fox briefs us on the local customs and intel. We pass a grand manor with a stone walled pasture where horses are grazing in the shade of massive trees. Suddenly Fox pulls over. Across the road is a thick, impassable hedge beside a small, uniquely shaped iron gate. It has slightly angled vertical posts. Behind the gate, hidden up a path, is the first site. My brother leaps over the gate and disappears. But I do not ever leap over gates. Fox reaches around, unlatches a bolt, and sets the heavy gate on the ground. I step over it and start up the path. Shaded by tall Hawthorne shrubs, the path borders a farmers field. The path widens towards a large mound covered in grasses. Fox tells us that hidden beneath the mound is a Stone Age passage tomb. He leads us to the tomb entrance. We crouch down and enter the dark passage, leaving the wind, the sky, and the modern world behind us. Later, past other iron gates, we explore the stone ruins of medieval churches, and attempt to decipher scripts on lichen covered headstones in the ancient cemeteries. Fox points out a hidden stairway in the recess of a stone wall, and my brother disappears again. But I do not ever climb hidden stone stairways in the ruins of monasteries. Fox waits with me until my brother re-emerges, higher up on the stone wall, and stands framed against the sky in the arch. At the last site, we stand on top of the Boyne Valley, close to the clouds, on an ancient mound. God light breaks through the clouds illuminating sections of the lush, green valley below. This view of Ireland is so glorious, and so special, that we do not want this moment to end. Fortunately we are with Michael Fox and there's no rush. If treasure is what you are looking for, ask to see the art of Bernadette Fox. These works are scenes of the sea and land, skillfully painted not with paint and a brush, but mostly colourful, dyed wool and other textiles. Overall, this tour is an unforgettable experience, and is one of the highlights of our trip.

We would highly recommend this tour and our guide/driver Michael. We spent a day enjoying the remarkable historic and cultural sights of the Boyne Valley on this tour. Michael’s knowledge and enthusiasm about the valley and the various sites helped to build our understanding and enjoyment of all we saw. He answered our many questions and even sent us information after the tour in regards to something we asked about. Michael’s relaxed style and pleasant demeanour also added to the day. All in all, this was a real highlight of our trip to Ireland!

"Five stars!" does not adequately describe the incredible day that we spent courtesy of Michael Fox of Boyne Valley Tours. We could not have asked for a better guide or itinerary during our trip to that part of Ireland in March 2023. There is SO MUCH to see and learn in this geography, and, despite us only having one day to cover a lot of ground, Michael was able to provide us with a rich and fascinating experience from beginning to end. We plan to work with him again on our next trip. Thank you Michael from a grateful family!

Michael was an excellent guide, and went out of his way to research places of interest, made sure I got the right tickets on time, and planned a realistic itinerary for a short period of time that I had available. He was always very communicative in advance of the trip. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour with Michael Fox and Boyne Valley Tours. We saw unique lesser known sites such as well as the main attraction of Newgrange and Trim Castle. Boyne (Boinne River) Valley has so much to offer to pack a full day of touring. We enjoyed a lunch at a local cafe and a Guinness at famous local pub. Michael’s knowledge of the area and easy conversation made the day fly by. I would highly recommend this experience.

My husband and I had a great experience with Michael from Boyne Valley Tours. Michael took an interest in us and amended the tour to include sites based on our interest (thank you again for that!) We loved seeing and learning about the Celtic crosses, ancient passage tombs, and religious abbeys- it's just unbelievable to think of day to day life 500, 1000, 5000 years ago. And Michael knew all about it. We would absolutely recommend this experience and Boyne Valley Tours - thank you again Michael!

Just got home after spending 6 weeks in Ireland and one of the best tours we took was the Boyne Valley Tour with Michael Fox. He is very knowledgeable on the area as well as the subject matter. Have highly recommended friends that are visiting Ireland to give Michael a call for a great tour. Great memories!
