Hindu temple

👍 Beautiful temple but we know why a lot of people go here, they want the iconic photo by the Gate Of Heaven. Is it worth it? It's up to you BUT be prepared for a long waiting time, sometimes up to 2 hours to take this photo. Go as early as possible (5 or 6am). You'll be provided with a sarong. Spoile... People often mention temple, wait, photo, photos, worth, people, hours, pictures, long, time,

Beautiful temple but we know why a lot of people go here, they want the iconic photo by the Gate Of Heaven. Is it worth it? It's up to you BUT be prepared for a long waiting time, sometimes up to 2 hours to take this photo. Go as early as possible (5 or 6am). You'll be provided with a sarong. Spoiler - They hold a small piece of glass by the cameras lens to create the mirrored effect you see in the photos The temple is actually closed to visitors and only those praying are allowed to enter. The staircase to the temple entrance is beautifully carved stone of a dragon and guardians. There's other photo opportunities where u can pay 10k rupiah for someone to take some pics of you. It's a beautiful location but if it's worth it is up to you.

Nice Temple for a sunrise visit to get some nice pictures. But if getting pictures isn’t for you then I’d probably give it a miss as there isn’t much else there. You have to get a shuttle bus up and wear the provided sarongs. It was very quiet when we arrived around 6am but later people supposedly queue up to 2 hours to get the famous picture. Also they take the pic for you using a mirror to give the effect - there isn’t any water.

Before my real review just some info for people that don’t read reviews before they visit somewhere and are then disappointed because they haven’t done an ounce of research. The shuttle bus is around 50 thousand up, and entrance around 45 thousand if you would like the “iconic photo”. Some people aren’t pleased with this, but many are happy to do this and they’ve probably read up on what it’s like. The wait can be long, we waited two hours but took time looking and grabbing some snaps of the gates at the temple (as always they are closed to tourists, I don’t know why this surprises people so often). Grabbed a coffee and just chat among ourselves until it was our turn. Not everyone wants photos for Instagram, some of just want little memories and photos to look back on. If that makes you a tourist, I don’t know what you call those that slate it. The photos are obviously a trick with a mirror, this is common in Bali and you don’t need a degree to work that out before you come. Regardless, you get some nice shots if that’s your thing, get to check out the bits around. If that’s not your thing there’s plenty of other temples in the area. For us we were happy to chill in the grounds and wait, as were many others. Thanks again!

We arrived around 6:30 am, and despite not many people being there yet, we received the number 128. We waited for 4 and a half hours before it was our turn for the photo session. The actual photo-taking process was quite fast, only taking a few minutes with the local guide. You just need to hand over your camera when it’s your turn. They had 4 posts for group photos or couples and 4 individual posts per person. It was quite chilly in the morning. Opposite the site, there are small shops where you can buy water or simple local food like Nasi lemak or instant noodles. I would suggest bringing your own water and food, so you can eat while waiting. Honestly, considering the long wait and the lengthy journey, I don’t think the travel time is worth it for this place. Plus people are smoking at the seating areas

Very long waiting time for the mythical photo. Some people said that access is expensive (bus + tickets) but it's a total of 100k per person or 6€. Mid-July, arriving at 11am, we were told there would be a 3 hour queue to get the photo with the temple and the mountain in the background. I think it was more like 4 hours. I strongly advise you to take the photo with the temple but on the other side. there is almost no tail, photos with the same mirror effect, just without the mount in the background.

I will start with the good stuff. The place is really nice, temple high in sky, magical and mythical. Even though it's marketed like that, it's not really like that. Here I can say that I found the most sour people from Bali, not only at the temple but also at the nearby shops, no one would haggle and they would give you really high prices. The ticket system is quite bizarre, once it ask you for a bus ride, for 45K Rps ($3), for only 2 - 3km ride, but it wouldn't let you go with scooter, and you have a choice, take the bus or walk, the walk is out of discussion because the trek is really steep and during raining season, not so nice. Once you get up top you need to buy another ticket 55K Rps ($4) to get inside the temple and take the photo, however for the photo you have a number, we needed to wait 2 hours and half, for a couple of pictures, and when we asked the first lady that if there were a lot of people, she told us, ohh no. They could change the system and buy direct the ticket for 100k Rps, and make a tour of the temple, and once you finish that tour you would need to wait for a maximum 20 minutes. Because let's be honest, 90% of the tourist are coming for the photos and not to visit the temple. And go early in the morning because you still would want the picture.

One of the glorified temples in Bali. Very beautiful and interesting with mount Agung view behind. There are 2 types of visitors, those who want to worship (it seems free) and traveler. For local tourists I’m charged an entrance fee of IDR 45.000 (dropped off by bus return) and entrance ticket + Balinese sarong IDR 35.000. They will also give you a queue number to be photographed at the temple by the staff. The less pleasant thing is waiting for your turn to take photos because there are many visitors. I recommend visiting this temple on weekdays and in the morning so the view is also clearly

Kind of disappointing Had great view and scope for relaxation But it was commercialized too much that the experience is all for taking photos People here have to wait in line for hours just for a picture. We did not know about this and we were taken to this place at 6am by our travels. Although we got the pic taken easily. It wasn't really worth waking up so early. View is good if there is no fog

Really beautiful temple! Tall ancient temple gates and the volcano behind is majestic. Only downside of this place is long queues. Hours of wait to take pictures at the gates. To go to the mountain you have to take a shuttle bus that will take you to the top of the mountain where the temple is. Then you need to walk up towards the ancient temple on top. Quite steep and can be tiring, but worth the climb.

If you want to do it for the gram; it is worth it. If you want to do it for culture & history; go somewhere else. It is ridiculous & not worth it. Interesting experience, to say the least. You get there extremely early in the morning to try to avoid the crowds in the hopes of experiencing a majestic temple, only to arrive and get handed a ticket with a number on it as if you were waiting in line for the butcher. Quite literally the history and culture of it is ruined because you have 100 people sitting around waiting for their turn to snap a shot between the gates of heaven, with everyone watching and a guy taking photos with his smartphone & a mirror to make it look like there is water in front of it.

Beautiful site. Don’t fall for the 2 to 3h queue to take your Instagram pictures in front of the first temple. Most people miss the rest of the site which is composed of 7 temples and is beautiful. We did the climb of the 1,700 steps to go to the highest temple and it was so worth the effort. We had lunch on our way up in one of the stalls - try out the chicken soup.

The Lempuyang Temple is definitely worth visiting! There are multiple photo places but the most iconic is the photo in front of the gate. When you arrive at the parking lot you find the ticket place to take you with a special shuttle to the temple. At the temple you have to pay entree. You get a free cloth to cover your legs (men also). On your ticket is a number that they will call so you can make the famous picture at the Lempuyang gate. We had to wait 2 hours for the photo but we had lunch and explored the temple. We had a great time!

A tourist trap for some nice pictures. You get there with a driver, who has to pay to enter the parking. Then, you pay to grab a tourist bus up the hill. Then, you pay for entry of course. You get a number for your picture to be taken. You have to wait for 3 hours. Luckily, somebody gave us their ticket, because they did not want to wait, so we got there in around 45 minutes. Finally, there is a person taking your photos, who changes the camera settings in your phone and quickly takes 4 pictures of you, saying next pose in like 5 seconds. Beautiful pictures, beautiful views with the volcano in the background and beautiful temple, but unacceptable greed.

It's a 2-hour ride from our guest house near Sanur area. I liked that we were able to see the sunrise around the temple with a great view of Mount Agung! 🌄⛰️ The roads to this place are too narrow, but since our tour guide has been used to take tourists to this temple, he navigated the place easily. We rode another open bus, which takes tourists up the temple and walked on maybe a 60 deg inclined road. 💪🚶‍♂️We also wore sarong, which is a tradition in all parts of Bali when visiting a temple. Sadly, this place, although made for praying, has been a place where tourists just take photos at the gates of heaven and then go down the temple without really exploring it. We spent about an hour waiting for the locals to take a photo of us in the heaven's gate. Food is available outside the temple, so don't be afraid to go early. If you're in Bali, this place is a must visit. 👌

Nice temple with extraordinary view.. just reach there before sunrise. We reached there at 5:15am and got to wait for around 1 hour for our photos to get clicked at the main famous gate.

We got here before it had opened. Be prepared for an early start, or you'll have a long wait. We were ticket number 5 and had a 30+min wait to get our pictures taken.the temple gets so busy. If you want that Instagram photo...go .oh and everyone had to wear a sarong which was free, even if you had long trousers on.

Lempuyang Temple is an absolute gem in Bali. The iconic 'Gates of Heaven' provide a breathtaking backdrop for photos, and the temple itself offers a serene and spiritual experience. The journey to the temple is an adventure in itself, with stunning views of Mount Agung along the way. Be prepared for some stair climbing, but the view from the top is truly worth it. But there's a long queue for taking pictures in heaven gate

If you want the iconic Heavenly Gates photo then this is a must! However, be prepared to wait at least 2 hours. We went with a guide and professional photographer, so we were picked up from our hotel in Seminyak at 4AM and made it to the temple at 6AM. By the time we arrived and received our queue ticket number - 88. So, we got a coffee at the the restaurant at the base of the temple and took photos there first. The walk to the temple is uphill, so be prepared for that. Once you make it to the temple, you will be blessed with holy water and then you wait. There are covered platforms where you can sit and watch people take their photos while you wait. This is also great for getting ideas for your poses, because once your number is called you have 2 minutes to strike your poses before your time is up. Aim for 4 poses per person. While you wait there is also a shop that serves breakfast, coffee and snacks. There is a toilet also but you must pay $5000 RPU. Lastly, there is another photo opp - stairs to another temple but there is also a long wait. The morale of the story is - be prepared to wait. We accepted it and used the time to people watch and ask our guides tons of questions about Balinese culture. Overall, it was a 3 hour stint…and worth it!

Great view. Not much time to enjoy it because you have to wait minimum 3 hours just to take 1 minute worth of photos. The photographers do a great job though.

Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang, popularly known as Lempuyang temple is a Hindu temple and at a same time a popular tourist attraction in Bali. If you’re Hindu or just wanna explore Balinese Hinduism, I suggest you visit this place. Albeit, most tourists go here to get the panoramic photograph of the temple gates overlooking Mt. Agung, the highest peak and volcano of the island. The shuttle service to and from the temple is worth 44,000 IDR while the entrance to the temple is worth 50,000 IDR. This includes the iconic photo ops and a sarong that you should wear at all times inside the temple. When you visit this place, you have to be patient. My friend and I waited for at least an hour to get photographed, but it was all worth it.

😐 Too touristic. Need to pay 10k at the bottom (no ticket)!!! Then 45k/person for the shuttle and 55k/person to enter the temple. I think it's too much. The service itself very well organized.
