As a policy I usually give full stars reviews to vegan restaurants out of principle. I believe that part of saving animals is creating great & viable alternatives to mainstream restaurants. Food Temple during our visit wasn’t a great or viable alternative. Our server was intoxicated, which doesn’t particularly bother me much, but the smell of stale wine on their breath while being given a wet & stained menu to order from set our experience off. The food was served promptly - the feta/tomato appetizer decent, the sourdough bread was tough & not fresh, the garlic oil appetizer was an extremely small portion for what you pay for. The entrees LOOKED good, but to us none of the tastes & textures seemed thought through very well. Neither of us finished our portions, the cauliflower was old & darkened. Maybe Food Temple was having an off night that night, it happens - but out of all of the vegan restaurants we tried in Lisbon, punch for punch, this is the most expensive dinner we had. Kid of disappointing. We won’t be returning here, but don’t let it dissuade you from trying it out yourself - the area in which it’s located is quaint & the outdoor seating on the stairs seems like it’s a terrific & chill concept.

The food here was a absolutely delicious. My boyfriend and I had been talking that many vegan places serve food that all kind of tastes the same after a while but this place is an exception for sure. I’ve eaten all these ingredients (tempeh, root veggies, cassava, tofu,…) before but the way they tasted in these dishes was completely new to me. The portions are a bit small but somehow still filling, so don’t have to put you off ! The staff is extremely friendly and service was well-paced. We sat outside on some stairs which was also a nice addition to the experience. Overall: 10/10 Ps. reservation is highly recommended and so easy to do

Every time I've visited I leave with a grin plastered on my face, the food just gives you a hearthwarming feeling. An absolute must whenever you pass through Lisbon!

This is one of my best dining experiences ever. I showed up without a reservation and they fit me in. The location is beautiful. You can eat outside on the steps or inside in a lovely but very small space. The staff is very friendly. The food is delicious. It's not meant to be faux meat. It's just really wonderful vegetarian dishes. I would eat here again.

Best place I have been in Lisbon! If the weather allows you can sit outside on the stairs and it’s absolutely magical and unique. The food is high quality, presentation is beautiful and seriously so delicious. Before going here i thought its more a home style restaurant but the food we got was high end perfection. We also had a bottle of wine which was also nice. The menu is always changing which is nice. The service is nice and attentive. The prices are good for a vegan place in Lisbon. I would love to live in Lisbon to be able eat at this place more often:) Don’t forgot to reserve! It’s a way for them to insure the best quality;)

Came here on our first night in Lisbon. We sat outside with the other patrons (the inside was open but everyone sat outside) as the weather was lovely. We ordered olives, arancini, plums and halloumi salad, and rollifu. The arancini was my favorite. Perfectly crispy on the outside. There was a miscommunication and instead of getting the rollifu we ordered we were served the cauliheaven. The dish was good so we decided to finish it. The purple mash was something I'd never had before and it was quite tasty. The staff offered to make the rollifu but we told them it wouldn't be necessary...we were already so full. Service was great!

Normally I don’t review restaurants unless it’s either really good or bad. This is clearly a case of the first one. Their raw cake might be the best cake I’ve ever eaten (pic is the main course). And eating in the stairs outside with the dusk light and music was absolutely amazing!

Good food and service, you can only pay by cash or Portuguese card (not international ones)

Amazing culinary experience. We were blown away by every dish we ordered. The atmosphere with outdoor seating on the stone steps was very romantic and even before the food arrived we knew that we were gonna have a great evening. Finding a place that serves vegan food at this quality in a city that doesn't really cater to people with this lifestyle makes you feel like walking through a desert and finding a pond of the freshest water to quench your thirst. Also the servers there were so friendly :)

Tried to walk in a few times but it’s super intimate - so definitely book online! Was worth the wait for sure. Food was really well thought out, unique complementary flavours and artfully presented. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is relaxed. A really enjoyable dining experience. Will be back for sure! Do not miss the teriyaki tofu w millefeuille or the pear with homemade vegan whipped cheese. Oh and leave room for the taster plate of all 3 desserts. Trust me.

“Nice ambient” “Pricey” “Small portions” We were lucky getting a table on the inside without reservations since this is such a popular vegan restaurant. However, the ventilation wasn’t that great and the air was stuffy and oily with the open kitchen and small indoor space. After waiting for almost an hour for all our food to be served, me and my friend both felt a bit uncomfortable. The food was very experimental and there were some nice smokey flavors which we absolutely enjoyed. But the portions are really quite small. So maybe the restaurant could consider serving bread? That could solve the problem of small portions and the long waiting time.

Came here for dinner and the food was fantastic! Tried 5-6 dishes and all of them were very tasty. The outdoor area is unique. Tables are placed across stairs outside of this spot. Enjoying dinner and a drink in this spot provided one of my best experiences in Lisbon!

Cute place, but food-wise it needs some improvement. We got a tofu pie with some steamed veg, but it was too tough to bite. The other dish was rice with coconut and tomato sauce, strange combination. Good wine on the positive note

Simply devine vegan food. They have a short three course menu, which apparently changes frequently, every dish was a winner when we went. We were lucky rocking up without a reservation, so be warned. The staff are very friendly, chilled, but still very attentive

Loved loved this vegan restaurant. So relaxing with beautiful food with imagination. We were only in Lisbon for 4 days and ate here twice! We liked it that much. Really interesting and quirky outdoor seating area on the steps in a pretty back street (also a indoor area) Small menu but I believe they change it regularly. We enjoyed everything. Only would say the vegan cheeseboard could have some crackers or bread included with it. The wine was delicious too! Good price overall and the staff so friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend and will go again when in Lisbon.

Lovely little hole in the wall with a great terrace on the steps outside. The food is made with care. Great for vegans, but still extremely tasty.

Cosy and a little bit of a hidden vegetarian place. Seating options inside and two tables outside - but - you can sit on the stairs (cushions available) outside on specially created tables which creates a really neat and intimate atmosphere. The only downturn was that the waitress didn't really seem to like her job ... but that was it. Prices are absolutely fair. I can only highly recommend that place.

Devine food with nice and rich flavours and with a beautiful display! Had the Figs & Halloumi salad and Okra Cous’otto paired with the beautiful Green wine Service was absolutely top notch. I was fortunate to let Davide crown my night with spot-on recommendation and the spirit that they brought with them along the service! Would highly recommend everyone to try this amazing vegetarian restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and amazing staff

I don’t know where to begin. I think I’m just going to keep it very short and simple. Go eat here, it’s simply amazing. This place is the oldest vegan restaurant in the city. Amazing staff, ambience and to crown it all, the delicious food. Both Vegans and non vegans will love it Oh and PS - wines are carefully picked out and are well priced and very good.

We had a great dinner in The Food Temple. A highlight of our trip in Lisbon! The 25€ tasting menu is an amazing quality/quantity/price ratio. The whole vibe is great too. The place is a gem!

Beautiful vegan restaurant where you can dine out on the steps. The food is just fantastic. Staff very friendly and attentive. Book ahead if you can as I did have to wait a little while due to them being so popular.

My husband and I went with our dear friends who live here in Lisbon and reserved our sitting. What a unique and romantic setting. We celebrated our anniversary here and what a great choice. Sitting outside on the steps to in a little courtyard was so magical. Excellent vegan food and great choices. Very well coked with amazing ingredients.

I had the most amazing vegan dinner of my entire travels so far. The restaurant itself with its outdoor seating up the stairs makes it such a different and more exciting dinning experience. The wait staff are all so friendly and accomodating - very positive energy. I got the emoji mushrooms with a beetroot and potato salad on a bed of cashew cream. It was perfect every bit. I follow it with a coconut dessert that was also remarkable. I love the concept of this restaurant. The chef seems truely passionate about this food which makes it taste better. Also the cutest cat came and sat on the seat beside me and it was the most magical moment.

Great food, wonderful and not-every-day location, very nice staff. Can only recommend to go there. We have been there early and were lucky to get a 'table' at the stairs, but it makes a lot of sense to book in advance.

I revisited the Food Temple over my second visit to Lisbon. Everything that you imagine from cheese plate to the main course and desert were really top notch. I highly recommend The Food Temple not onlt for vegans but also food everyone who enjoys eating good quality food. The tables on the stairs made our dinner even more pleasant.

I have been to a lot of restaurants in Lisbon. Fantastic ones, because I live here. But since there are so many, I don't see the point of visiting them again. I rather try a new one. But this place was one I visited twice, and never got disappointed so far. Great experience

Officially my favorite português vegan restaurant in Lisbon. I happily ate my feelings. Also, the waitress is very kind.

  • 3/5 Alev D. 1 year ago on Google
Way too experimental food; it's a shame that the main dishes tasted totally bland despite the fact that so much effort and thought was being put into them. Though, the biggest downside is disorganisation in the service. We waited more than one hour for our meal. And please keep in mind that although they take reservations (google maps) beginning from 18:30, their kitchen is not open until 19:00. They may as well consider not taking reservations until that time to avoid prolonged waiting time for their customers. Regardless of these cons, they made some discount for the waiting time trouble, which I appreciate.

A delightful little vegan restaurant with a fantastic array of beautifully presented and creatively mixed ingredients; this place is a must for any plant based foodie who appreciates works of art on plates! The staff are friendly, helpful and appreciative of feedback. Highly recommended!

Nice restaurant. We made an online reservation. If it's nice and warm, cou can sit outside as well. The food was very good and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We both tried the tofu pie and were very pleased. I can definitely recommend it.

Small menu with interesting options. We tried almost everything on the menu. All of the dishes were nice and creative, but a lot of them seemed to miss something. Still, I love when a restaurant serves dishes I would have never came up with myself.

Probably one of the best vegan restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining at. It is nestled away down twisty Lisbon lanes, under street lighting at night, the allure was magnified as we approached the steps adjacent to the restaurant where people sat semi recumbent on cushions separated by specially made wooden tables were beautiful plates of food occupied. Such a beautiful setting. We sat inside as it was a little chilly. An open kitchen with a content and peaceful vibe where creativity spread its wings and flew! The food was inspired and totally and utterly delicious! I watched the chef, with focused contentment, as she created the look of our dishes and they were beautiful - a treat for all the senses. I wish I could go back over and over again.

We didn’t have an reservation but the staff was kind enough to find us a table. The menu was small but well made. The homemade cheese board were the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had. I absolutely love the chocolate & Miso Caramel tart. Great food friendly service cozy atmosphere highly recommended

Nice place to sit and to have a drink. The stuff is friendly, but the food unfortunately was bad. Maybe they had a unlucky day, because we heard that there are delicious dishes… the olives are really good, but on the hot tomato starter there was the feta cheese missing, we ordered Without bread Croûtons and got them thus. Salad Nearly without any seasoning, smashed potatoes without any herbs or taste.

This vegan restaurant is really delightful. The food is absolutely tasty, with a diverse range of flavors and creative dishes. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating a pleasant dining environment and the staff was very welcoming. However, I would recommend considering ordering two main courses as the portion sizes might leave you wanting more. Overall, this restaurant offers a fantastic dining experience.

Really delicious meal, we went for the tasting menu and it was great value and so much better than we could’ve expected. Really special food, lovely staff, an intimate nice space to eat and the best vegan food we’ve had in Portugal. Would definitely recommend to any friend who visits Lisbon.
