👍👍 Saw that octopus was highly recommend and I'm glad I listened. The octopus was delicious. The place was a bit busy when we were there but luckily we were seated quickly. There was an incident with the wine but the servers were quick to clean and even brought us dessert on the house for the mess. Lov... Step into a culinary wonderland with mind-blowing Portuguese cuisine! Every bite bursts with flavor, from the squid with black rice to the prawn rice and sea bass. And don't forget the heavenly steak fries and eggs. Service is prompt and friendly, and the carpaccio is a must-try. Get ready for a taste sensation in Lisbon!

Every bit of dinner was fantastic. Food. Drinks. Service. Decor. Would go every night in Lisboa if we could. Only here for a few days. Concert tomorrow. Might try and slide their pizza concept in for lunch on our departure day. Thank you. It was memorable.

Liked in particular the charcuterie and cheeses with Iberian pork and S. Jorge cheese. I wouldn't get the tuna again next time as it's very attainable at home, which leaves the octopus as the only option for gluten free small and grilled dishes. That was something very nice, to clarify which options are vegan, gluten free, ... The service was really bad though, hence the 4 stars. We had to order twice, they seemed as if didn't really care and they still forgot one snack and appetizer. For an Avillez place one expects better.

This is a mixed bag. The food is amazing. The clams, grilled octopus, soft beef croquettes are the best I've ever had. These are all tapas sized, so expect to get many small dishes. On the other hand the service is lacking, flagging down waiters was super hard, even for a tavern style place. I would still recommended it, just come with patience and a good appetite.

Alright it took me 2 visits to understand how this place works. It’s 3 restaurants in one; the first one we tried is Pateo (ok, not great) the “trendy” of the three, and the second time we tried Taberna, which is kind of a tapas bar. Third one is a pizzeria called “pizzAria” for some reason, but since I’m Italian I didn’t have it in me to try it. Sorry. Anyway, Taberna wasn’t great either. The service is very chaotic- getting on the waiting list wasn’t a smooth process. In fact, they forgot about us or misunderstood what we needed (what could we possibly need?) so we waited for 45minutes at the bar for them to call us while tables where actually available, and got one only after I asked again
(btw the bar is nice, but we begged for 20 minutes to get the menu). Once at our table, the server kept bringing our food to the people sitting next to ours. They forgot to bring water until the end of the meal. The food is unimpressive at best, and same for the wine

Bairro do Avillez in Lisbon is a culinary oasis. Its welcoming ambiance and diverse menu cater to every taste bud, offering a wide array of traditional Portuguese dishes and international flavors. The food is exceptional, a testament to the chef's expertise, delivering a flavorful journey with each dish. The attentive staff adds to the experience, ensuring every visit feels special.

First night and luckily our hotel is placed around 100m from this place. Awesome atmosphere and decor, but the real star of the show is the food. Sampled around 8 dishes in total and were blown away by every one. You do not want to miss this place if you visit.

Scrumptious lunch at the Tapas restaurant. The crispy cod was outstanding and the green lentil in coconut milk was delicious, rather unexpectedly. For dessert a mix of salted caramel and the sponge cake with olive oil proved to be a gastronomic masterpiece, so much so that forgot to take a picture. 😄. The service is attentive and considerate. Highly recommend this place!

Food was very good, however few dishes arrived relatively cold at the table. The Octopus with garlic was the best dish we had, 5 stars! Mixed ham and cheese plate was also great. Lively vibe, but for some it could maybe feel a bit uneasy. Liked the open kitchen and set up. Waiters were very busy, hence couldn't deliver a very good service, improved during the evening though. I think this place is a bit overrated due to the famous name, it was nice for sure, but nothing special. I would give 4 stars if it would be 5-10% cheaper, because the prices do suggest a better service and well temperatured dishes without fail.

A great chic but relaxed place, food simply delicious, the space is very special and different and each restaurant has it's unique characteristic. I went for Pateo this time as I wanted seafood, next time I will try the mini bar for fine dining. Service was amazing too!

The best bistro in Lisbon. This guy is a genius. Mr Avillez has 2 Michelin stars but he creates a few cheaper bistro type restaurants for diners to enjoy his creation. His house rose wine is incredibly juicy succulent and deliciously divine. At €18 it is also a bargain! THE ATRIUM IN THE BACK IS probably a bit quiet but it has a beautiful skylight and the decor is friendly and bright.

I was really looking forward to this restaurant hearing all the great things about Jose Avillez and how he’s the best chef and restauranteur in Lisbon. My expectations were pretty high! However unfortunately the overall experience was very lack luster. First thing is that we were being served by 4 different waiters there was no consistency or organization. We ordered our meal from who we thought was our main guy the appetizer came out and it looked delicious, however as you can see in the picture the lettuce with shrimp cocktail was missing a shrimp. We didn’t say anything because we didn’t think it was a big deal. Before our appitizer came they almost served us our entree even though it was actually for another table. I also ordered their seafood soup between appetizer and entree and one of the waiter even brought us both a spoon. But to our surprise our entree showed up and no soup was to be found, we told the 3rd new waitress who gave us our entree she looked confused and told a different waitress that came back over and was like, “we forgot it you want me to just cancel it for you?” Wasn’t nice about it and very unapologetic, I honestly really wanted to soup but it seemed like it would super inconvenience her she was really trying to have us cancel it so we did. She was like eat ur entree and if you still want soup we can make it after. I’m thinking why would I want a soul after entree. Honestly this was super poorly handled in my opinion, she should of been. I’m so sorry we’ll fire it up right now and it’s the house and we’ll have it served up shortly while you enjoy the entrees. Or soemthing to that manner. Also we ordered our first round of drinks at the bar and other than that one drink no one ever asked us if we wanted another round of drinks. We were going to order a bottle of wine but since they came and took our cocktail glass without asking what’s next we didn’t even get a chance lol I order a 2nd round. Also no one ever came by to check to see how our food was. Overall the food was actually quite delicious however the service was very very poorly executed. The waiters and waitresses were too busy cleaning and re setting the tables and making small talk with each other and no one ever checked in on us, and they all had this confused look on their face and never smiled or was warm or welcoming. When we paid I think even the waitress herself was shocked when I chose to provide her with the extra tip option since she probably wasn’t expecting anything due to the poor service. If they could bring their level of service to the same as the flavors of the food then things would be great and this could be 5 stars.

Atmosphere and service are good, busy but attentive and not crowded. However, honestly the food was way overpriced and not good. The cod exploding olives dish was truly one of the worst entrees I’ve ever had
a bowl of mushy french fries flavored with mayo and hint of fish. Not worth 28 euros. We barely ate it. The squid was very tender and well cooked though. I must say 8 euros for some dry bread/butter and olives was overkill. Wouldn’t come back.

The smoked butter with bread and olive was an amazing start that I can only recommend to everyone. The Sirloin Steak and Baked Cod were both really delicious (though definitely not cheap). The Passionfruit with coconut sorbet was amazing as well. But the best thing for us (that makes the higher price worth it) was the great service and atmosphere for sure.

(Translated by Google) Very sad the dinner of 10/30/2020, restaurant that I decided to return this time for Dinner with a couple friend and not only for some tapas. Clearly the Staff is not trained to fulfill the minimum of a service that is intended to be a gastronomic experience. the tuna tataki came completely unbalanced with the amount of spicy that I had, I even stopped tasting the white wine I was drinking, which was also another sadness when I realized that the employee did not know any characteristics of the wine to be able to harmonize with some of Chef Avillez's dishes. We were 5 people all from the same household, the restaurant was not full and the customers they had were all very close. I didn't see disinfect the tables after the customers left !!! We waited awhile for the dishes and the veal came on the spot but completely cold! The clams were poorly prepared and the sauce was unsalted and watery !! We paid € 244 and had to ask to rectify the account because it contained orders that were not made by us! Really, celebrity chef status is not synonymous with quality! Suggestion to Chef Avillez: If your name is on the door, at least be present at the restaurant! PS: I am happy to go to your kitchen one day to show you that this is not just talk.

One of the best restaurants I’ve tried so far
all food was delicious, from a regular octopus (that had more flavor than any other sea meat I’ve tried) to sauce of the clams with lime
the setting its really cool for drinks at night. Even if its a bit pricy, you get back its worth. And of course the best was the service, beyond friendly!!

Pateo is an amazing resturant that you would want to come back again and again. All of the dishes were amazing. If you love mushrooms the mushroom risotto is amazing. Also octopus is a must. The drinks are very good too. I would highly recommend this place. Also the design of the resturant is very cool and it really feels like you are at a veranda.

It’s good it’s just that for the money you should get better. It’s a known restaurant and of course they are charging for the brand. They have several indoor dining spaces and outdoor. I believe there are 3 or 4 different branded Avillez restaurants within this place. I was suprised how big jt was compared to other places we went. Food was great served beautifully. However the issue is every where we went had good butter for instance and charged for it but here they charged more. Service was very attentive and fast. The team is on point. They don’t miss a beat. We were a table of 9 and didn’t have a single issue from my recollection. Parking might be an issue as I haven’t seen anywhere nearby. Reservation are a must even though it’s a big restaurant.

We had a brilliant time dining here on Sunday! The food was incredible, the best octopus I have eaten in Lisbon. Definitely get the bread service, you don’t want to miss out on the smoked butter. Thank you to the brilliant staff who were able to accommodate us, even though I had mistaken which date I had a booking for and turned up a day early! Will be recommending to friends who visit in the future.

Lovely atmosphere; we adored the decorations and the layout of the rooms. The food was very tasty, the cocktails exquisite and the service extremely efficient! They could improve their food plating and quantity though; I had so much more rise than I could eat in both my plates and I felt bad leaving it.

This was just great, from the entry to the exit. The waiters where attentive, polite and patient - happy to explain the menu and suggest a course of action towards nirvana. I had the octopus starter and main, never having tried octopus before - and i loved it! It was do well made, it was an awesome experience. The dessert was tasty and just the right finish. I was pretty full after the meal, and they adapted to serve it as i pleased. One of my best resturant visits of all time - and i didnt even have a reservation!

I don’t like leaving bad reviews but this experience was bad. First, the restaurant is quite large and accommodates an essential amount of guests that makes it noisy, crowded and stuffy. Not my type of a restaurant. Secondly, the staff was not attentive and friendly. The waiter was quite indifferent and at one moment, trying to explain me what the dish contained, he started pointing and almost touching the food with his finger. It was disgusting. Lastly, the food was between average and bad: the octopus tartar (which was recommended by the waiter as an especially good dish) was very average, not impressing at all. The partridge pies were just tasteless. They were served with quite strong mustard and it was the only flavour which this dish had. Brrr, just bad. It’s sad as there are so many great restaurants in Lisbon and usually the level of cuisine is high there.

Oh wow!!! I love everything about this place! The interior is amazing! The food was great! The service was top! It’s a place consists of couple of restaurants and we booked Pateo which is mainly seafood and some meat dishes. We order octopus (which was actually a part of the menu of the tapas restaurant but they accepted to serve it) and it was mouth blowing! I loved the flavors and their harmony! Definitely recommended! Another star dish of the night was Scarlet Prawns. We also tried cod fish but was not the best version of it:) Prices are relatively high compared to city averages but I guess overall experience is worth it!

It’s a great meal. Beautiful ambiance, fun concept and very good food. You can’t be in a hurry

Creative, different and delicious. Atmosphere is amazing, but the service, maybe because of a language barrier but it didn’t seem that way, wasn’t as attentive as We are used to at a restaurant of this caliber. Definitely great food and a overall good experience.

Really gorgeous restaurant tucked behind a more day to day eatery out front. The inside terrace gave an outdoor feel and the decor is eclectic and adds to the exotic feel. Sitting upstairs on the balcony was amazing, to be able to look down around the restaurant and observe the atmosphere. Dined alone and was really taken care of by the servers, gave great recommendations for both food and drinks, and they even made sure I still had a good table with a view- something I find is often not prioritised for solo diners. I had the Octopus Tartare and then the traditional cod dish with "exploding olives"- absolutely magical. Cocktails were great and the wine menu looked good too, I can't wait to come back here and try the other food and drinks out.

Close to the Bairo Chiado metro stop. Came here for portuguese tapas or Taberna. Made a reservation beforehand and everything we got was amazing! We got the cod tacos, the steak sandwich and the prawns. We were very hungry after a long travel day and it really hit the spot with chocolate cake to end the meal. The service by Joy was amazing and everything came out really fast. We would come back in a heartbeat.

The food, wine and atmosphere were all excellent. The bread and butter, garlic shrimp, deconstructed cod dish with exploding olives, seafood bisque and the white wine of Jose Avillez were delicious- we would order them all again. The white wine was truly one of the best white wines we have had- deserving of its award for complexity. The atmosphere was lively but noise level was not too loud. The only reason for 4/5 for the overall experience is that the front of house staff was rude and took some joy out of the beginning of the experience. Service at our table was good but not great. I would give 4.5/5 if I could.

Super nice concept of few type of restaurants at one place. Decorating is just right & unique mix of details, ceramics, tails & greens. Food- amazing beef “sandwich”.. and rise with the shrimps. Clams, hmm too small portion but fresh taste. I will add a more flavor in it. Staff is nice & friendly. Location is good in the city center.

What a fantastic atmosphere with amazing food. This neo-Portuguese restaurant have a traditional cuisine with pizza and cold cuts area. The place is an example of decoration on how to preserve the spirit of an old place with a modern touch. Great for kids and family. Service is great. This only bad point it’s not the less expensive place in Lisbon

We had dinner at the PĂĄteo for our anniversary, and we enjoyed everything. The vibe of the restaurant is very nice and comfortable. The food are amazing; thank you to the waiter who gave us good recommendations ! Our favourite was Bras-styled cod with exploding olives, and the Hazelnut dessert which gives you surprising flavours and textures. Overall we're happy with this place and prices are decent especially for a Michelin star restaurant.

For a restaurant that charges €30 per main and €10 for a dessert, it was pretty underwhelming. The food is good but nothing special (not very exciting), you can get something just as good if not better for half the price somewhere else. I assume you're paying for the atmosphere and service but to me it just feels like a hipster restaurant you find in a shopping centre. And the service wasn't particular attentive, just okay. Small portions as well. Anyways if you are just looking to spend some money, come here.

Love it! Seafood, service and deco! The food itself is very tasty, but you also need to value its fame of overall experience. For starters we had a velvety fish and seafood soup, bulhao pato razor clams and an amazing sapateira (stuffed spider crab)! For main course we shared the shrimp 'açorda' (mashed bread, garlic, coriander, chilli) and the lobster and shrimp rice. (Up from 50€ pp!)

We had a nice entree with Serra da Estrela cheese and bread. Afterwards we went for a picanha and the codfish, both delicious. The codfish with broa and chorizo was really tasty. It’s texture was perfect, both for the fish and the broa. Everything was great. I highly recommended this place.

A sprawling structure with two (really three) distinct venues, we opted for the Taberna on this visit. The menu was extensive and fun for sharing dishes. Servers got us mixed up with another table so we even got one more dish to sample, tapas style, before the mistake was recognized by us.

Best octopus I’ve had in a long time (if not the best I’ve ever had). Really enjoyed walking through the different locations within this big spacious restaurant. Each location has it’s own cuisine style (sea food, tapas, etc.) and unique decor. Staff was was great and super attentive.

Good food, not cheap for Lisbon but I think it worths. They have daily menu options 17.5 in taberna and 25 in patio. Recommended

  • 2/5 Suthira O. 2 years ago on Google
The burrata salad (€16.50) was our favourite (though we found it difficult to detect the truffle), followed by the passion fruit dessert (€10; though the coconut sorbet component was a bit weak). The shrimp açorda (€27) was nice, but salty. We loved the reimagined nata (€8) concept but not the outcome. The steak (€33) and grilled octopus (€29.50) were probably too tough for these prices. I thought waiters were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was good. In terms of value for money, I think you could do better in Lisbon.

Probably the best meal we got in this trip. Definitely recommend the bras-style code with exploding olives. Super yummy, though I found it bit too salty later.

  • 5/5 Ciara B. 1 year ago on Google
Our meal was very lovely, we shared a few different dishes and I loved the creations that were on the menu. We had tuna cornettos, not something I’ve ever seen before and therefore wanted to try. Exploding olives sounded interesting but didn’t get to try. If you like experimental food and are bored of the average dining experience then this is for you. Special mention for the fries, perfectly sauced and seasoned.

First we asked for a caipirinha and it just tasted like lemon juice. Then we asked for an Aperol Spritz and I don’t think the proportions were right. The food was ok, the place is noisy and it is hard to have a conversation. The service was a bit rushed. The ambiance is actually quite nice. The caramelo Salgado was very good!

Delicious restaurant which specializes in fast service of a variety of tasty local dishes mainly in tapas portions but also some larger meals. Sometimes the service might seem too formal and without a personal touch but their goal is to serve as many people as they can - there are a lot of tables and the wait is short. The dishes are prepared fast. We've been two times and definitely we'll go again if we have the chance. Some of our favorites are tuna “Cornetto", tuna tartar, classic ceviche, beef croquette, taberna’s beefsteak sandwich, octopus with kimchi sauce and for dessert - “pastel del nata” with coffee gelato. The prices are reasonable but not low. Overall I believe it has good value for the money.

  • 4/5 David B. 1 year ago on Google
It is a nice place in the center of Lisbon. It has a few sections: tapas, meat and seafood. When it comes to that choice, we go for seafood. The dishes are well done: bisque, tartar, and grilled octopus were all ok. However, it was not something special and, compared to other places, overpriced. My partner asked me to try more local places that were less oriented toward tourists after that visit. To conclude a nice restaurant but less of a Portugal. I think it needs more local warms or more exquisite items.

We enjoyed a lot with their great foods. Their plate was not too big, just comfortable size for us. It was traditional Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian and so on. But it was a high level quality. When you go there, you must male a reservation in advance. They are very famous and popular restaurant in Lisbon.

We were an adult and a 9 year old waiting with a crowd of eager people to enter for a dinner at 19:00 on a Monday. While clearly popular we could reserve a place on the same day. Even though the restaurant got full very quickly, it didn't feel noisy because of the very high glass ceilings in the patio. The service was super attentive and friendly. Our fantastic waiter went out of his way to make sure we liked the food and to replace the dish that my son didn't get to like (there was nothing wrong with it). I tried the shrimps açorda - it was my first time and while quite unusual, I enjoyed it. The shrimps were very good. I want to visit again to try other dishes.

The restaurant is quite big and it was really busy when we arrived. However, our table was ready and the service was very quick. We order many dishes to have a good overview of the food menu. Every dish was tasty with interesting combination of ingredients and they cooked with respect. However the prices were quite expensive for the size of portions. Must try: cod

We had a great dinner here while vacationing in Lisboa
vibrant atmosphere, made a reservation on their website, and we got seated promptly. Service was ok, nothing over the top. Felt like they could’ve checked on us more but again, it was fine. We ordered our food, then got our dessert, then our check. Food was pretty good - enjoyed our appetizers.. with the tuna tartare, octopus tartare, we ordered a few different things to enjoy
 duck, seafood risotto-stew
fish, all the food was pretty standard fare
meaning it was all good but nothing spectacular that would required a return visit. I enjoyed the dessert more. I got a deconstructed pastel de nata
and it was delicious! Almost like a Napoleon
overall, worth a visit if you have time in Lisbon.

Pateo - Bairro do Avillez is a fantastic dining spot! The restaurant exudes beauty, and the food matches the ambiance perfectly. I absolutely loved the Tuna Tartare, and the Grilled Octopus was incredibly tender, the fish was a little over cook. To top it off, the Nata for dessert was delightful. A memorable culinary experience!

Great place while in the Chiado Neighbourhood. They have the outside terrace, an internal restaurant and the Patio. Don’t get confused and go all the way in to the PATIO. Rodrigo and Diogo took great care of us with excellent recommendations: eggplant and tuna tartar for starters, shrimp cocktail and sea bas with asparagus. What we liked best is the flavours are amazing but also the portions are enough as you don’t feel like you’ll be rolling out the restaurant. Don’t forget to try the pavlova!

  • 3/5 Helena B. 8 months ago on Google
We visited the Taberna. First of all, don’t order the explosive olives. It is awful. Like eat a full spoon of oil. The rest of the food was ok, not outstanding. The cod with alheira barely had alheira or cod. It was a blend mix of greens and breadcrumbs. The cheese board was small and everything tasted the same. The cod little balls were good. The only think delicious and matching the expected standards was the picanha tartar. That was delicious. The service was very slow and clumsy. It was very hard to get the waiters attention. We’re ignored a few times and the place was far from being busy. They didn’t see to have a lot of experience or coordination on who should take care of each table. In general, everything overpriced for the portions and quality. It was far from the bare minimum expected for this place to be honest.

this place is absolutely amazing. first, the food was incredible. we had the blue lobster and sea bass and was some of the best sea food i have ever had. our waiter recommended us our wine based on what we were eating and it was incredible. then he recommended our dessert with was to die for. overall, this had to be one of the best food experiences i’ve ever had, and the service was incredible. if you ever have the chance to be served by Marco Neves either here in Lisbon or at their new restaurant in Cascais, do it. Marco was so incredible and knowledgeable and it was an honor to be his guests.
