If your looking for a fancier type of vegan restaurant than this is your place! I absolutely loved everything I ate there. The food is served with beautiful arrangements and the dishes are prepared a lot of creativity. We ordered the cheese board and “fish” for starters. The cheese board was definable something I’ve never had at any other vegan restaurant, which makes it even more special. It came with about 6-7 different types of cheese and I really loved them all. For the main course we had the steak and it was also very juicy. For dessert we had the Creme brûlée and chocolate peanut butter cake. It was all super delicious.

First we ate a starter 'Octopus salad' and as a sea food lover in the past this was very similar to a non-vegan version as I ate when I was a child in Croatia on holidays. For the main dish I had a traditional dish Francesinha and it was amazing! I was with a non-vegan friend and he said it tasted exactly like the non-vegan one. The 'cheese' on top was so good. My friend also loved his dish. For the dessert we had a Martini coffee cake and it was also really good. I would definitely recommend this place and when I visit Lisbon again I sure will come back

After reading reviews and being recommended this restaurant, we had high hopes! Food wise - we enjoyed the food. The soup was absolutely delicious. The ravioli was good, and the tofu fish dish was decent. The desserts were delicious, but very rich! But I would say the prices are a bit too high for the food, also being in Lisbon. Overall, I would recommend trying the food for a new experience, especially as a lot of it is experimental The main area where we felt we were let down was the front of house service. The lady that was at the front desk was extremely impolite and unfriendly. We definitely felt like we were imposing / almost like we were not deserving to be there! Once we sat down it took a very long time to get served, and we had to ask the same lady to ask for a waiter. When doing so, she was also unfriendly, as if we shouldn’t be asking for something. Aside from this, we were served by a couple of different waiters / waitresses who were really helpful, friendly and lovely for the rest of the time. Which is why my overall rating is 4*.

This place is overrated. The food is mediocre, not well balanced and lacks flavour. Because of all the good ratings we went there twice as we thought we might’ve chosen a bad dish the first time, but everything we tried was either oversalted or flavourless. The staff was nice but not very helpful. The presentation of the food was good. The people who ordered burgers seemed more content with their choice, so maybe that’s what to get but: For this price you can get better food at the many vegan restaurants around.

AO26 was recommended to me by a friend prior to our trip to Lisbon. We were stoked that upon checking Google Maps, our hotel was directly next door to this vegan epicurean establishment. We had the luxury of eating here twice & sampled entrees, appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks & deserts from across the menu & every one of them were a swing & a big hit. The dishes here are well thought out, the flavors & textures compiled with care. There is a Portuguese cuisine flair to the menu which we loved & we went particularly wild over the vegan cheese board, which I cannot recommend enough. Each time we dined here we had courteous & kind waitstaff. Ambiance was everything we love about eateries & the open kitchen, dining room & bar area established a lively flow throughout the room. If you’re looking for vegan dining in Lisbon, this is where to start.

Do not skip this restaurant!! I don't even know where to start. It's been 6 months since I was in Lisbon and I'm still dreaming of this restaurant. If I lived in Lisbon, I'd eat here every day. It's one of the only restaurants that I ate at twice. The vegan steak made non-vegans drool. The tasting board was delicious. The biggest problem that you'll have is trying to figure out what you want to eat because the menu is phenomenal. Take your time finding it because it's a little bit hidden. You'll walk downstairs into an open patio area connected to the restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed, upscale but not uptight. You can wear jeans and a cute top or dress up and you'd still fit in. Americans....if you miss a steak with steak sauce, bring it with you. There's no steak sauce and it's delicious without it but it's definitely an experience with it. Just a thought.

This was an incredible experience. I recommend getting a reservation, this is a nice restaurant that gets filled up. We had a great lunch here. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the cheese board. I have been V aprox 7 years and have NEVER had cheese that tasted like brie, etc. The only thing were not pleased with was the little amount of bread compared to how much cheese there was. Also they serve little sticks which are not so great to dip. We ordered a side of their really good bread and that worked great. The seawood soup was an amazing experience and really felt like a fish stew. It had strong flavors that I really enjoyed. I also recommend their fried cuttlefish which I believe was mushrooms. A great experience!

A mixture of feelings and wonderful food. I felt like a child eating my seitan steak, as good as veal steak that my grandma used to do when 15 years ago. The "octopus" salad is fantastic, it's made with mushrooms, vinegar, vegetables and flowers. I even took a peanut and chocolate pie, the sweetest way to close my dinner. I think that this is the most talented kitchen in Lisbon, and the service is perfect. Very recommended.

I am so so so happy to have found this place. It was incredible in pretty much every way. The first thing you notice is the stunning decor, and then maybe second you get overwhelmed by having to decide from a menu where literally every dish sounds spectacular. I recommend trying the daily special! The “sardines” were our favorite, and my mom (who loves fish) said they were even better than real fish and that she would go vegan if she could eat food like what’s served here every day.

The food is absolutely scrumptious! A lot of care goes in to their flavorings and it is fabulous that they offer Portuguese staples in a vegan version. They also offer a wide range of other dishes as well. We enjoyed the house dish of the day - Moussaka and salad and a Seitan steak. For dessert the chocolate, peanut pie was a delicious version of a peanut butter cup. I can't wait to return and try their 'seafood' soup- which a couple behind us was enjoying and it looked delicious too.

Excellent creativity, finally a vegan restaurant that presents more than tofu or seitan, very rich with great flavor combinations and savoring. It was a great experience from the entrees till the desert. Highly recommended.

Honestly, for all the great reviews, and how popular this place is, not that impressive. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service was fine, but nothing out of this world, it took my husband forever to get his beer. The food was so so. Certainly, there was a lot on the menu, but nothing that we tried blew us away except the dessert! We enjoyed much better vegan good in Lisbon, that was not as hyped, and more affordable. My husband had the ravioli, he said it was fine, but he didn’t really like that it was fried instead of boiled. I had the tofu, very fishy tasting, and I actually love seaweed, but something about it did not sit well and had a very other seasoning that I could taste except the seaweed, the greens that came with were very good and garlicky, the potatoes were boring-and I love potatoes, but they had no seasoning or satisfying crunch. We had the cuttlefish and sweet potato fry appetizers, neither of them were as crispy and flavourful as we had hoped. For desert we had the peanut butter pie, and crème brûlée, they were both excellent!

You really get a super diverse selection of delicious vegan food here! This place is not the „standard“ vegan place where you can get only the common vegan options but they really put a lot of thought into their menu which is reflected by the taste! Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or neither of both, this is a must-visit in Lisbon!

The best vegan food in Lisbon! It is really high kitchen, all dishes in menu are original and sophisticated. Design of interior is modern, they have nice garden. Waitresses are friendly. The prices are fair, this food worth it!

Had a late night supper at this restaurant recommended by hotel staff. Was impressed with the quality of food prepared in traditional Portuguese dishes. The staff (most of them at least) were very pleasant and bother to explain the dishes when they were served. The restaurant is also very well done up. Keep it up.

I've been to Ao26 a few times, it's one of the best vegan spots in Lisbon. They specialize in portuguese-inspired dishes, it's impressive how they can re-create fish and meat textures/flavors by using 100% plant based ingredients. Any meat eater would be fully satisfied by having a vegan meal here. One complaint: I HATE rocket salad, and the menu doesn't say whether or not it's part of the dish, I wish they could fix this.

Visited twice during our stay in Lisbon, the food was a refreshing experience and the best overall dining memory of Lisbon. It was great having some classic Portuguese tastes made vegan , with the right textures and seasoning.

Delicious vegan food! I dined here twice during my 4 days in Lisbon. I highly recommend the cheese platter. The service, wine and prices were excellent. This restaurant is better than a lot of vegan restaurants in NYC for sure :)

Nice and cozy place with good food, but the sweet potato fries weren't real fries in my opinion and the chips were quiet boring. The tea was super good 👍 the Burger (crispy tofu one) was good but not too good, more spices in the tofu would have been better.

Everything was delicious. It's very good for vegan food. Service was reactive. The place is very cosy. You feel right at home. We liked even though we are not vegan. We have eaten there several times and we will keep on going.

There is only one word for this place: phenomenal! Why? - the food is fantastic and freshly prepared. - staff is very courteous. Even when the food was served by another waiter, she knew who had ordered what without asking. Good sign! - interior design of the restaurant is very beautiful and creative. Possibly not everybody's cup of tea but certainly they put in a wonderful effort to make it authentic. - it's the little things that make an experience extraordinary. These guys certainly have it figured it out. From decoration of the food to the way the bill is presented: always creative and authentic!

Excellent vegan lunch with a creative and fresh menu. We tried some vegan alternatives to traditional Portugese seafood dishes - something different which made a nice change! My tofu in nori seaweed with roast potatoes was delicious. Nice selection of organic drinks. Lovely space and relaxing atmosphere.

Food was a bit pricy, the 18 euro starter (the first picture) wasn’t really worth it in my opinion. Food in general was good. Don’t forget they have a daily special meal you can order - it’s on the blackboard not on the paper menu.

My meal here was a highlight of my Lisbon trip. I was so glad to be able to try local dishes and flavors but in totally vegan versions. I brought two meat-eaters with me and we were all satisfied. Very friendly and attentive service, delicious food, fair price.

Ao 26, I must say, is an exceptional vegan restaurant (experience) in the city of Lisbon, and this restaurant offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. A sort of hidden entrance, but upon entering, you are greeted by the friendly and attentive staff, who I have to say, went above and beyond to get us a warm and cozy corner table for a party of 4 (including 2 kids under 2). The ambiance was elegant, with soft lighting and tasteful decor that created a relaxed and set the mood for a great dining experience. The menu is a culinary delight, offering a wide range of options to suit every palate. From classic dishes to innovative creations, there is something for everyone. By far, it has truly been one of the best vegan restaurants I have been to. Starting from the presentation of the food with each dish meticulously arranged and garnished (truly a work of art!) to the attentive service, everything at Ao 26 was impeccable. The knowledgeable, attentive, and always ready to answer any questions staff went above and beyond to accommodate any special requests. To top it all off, the dessert menu is a true indulgence- the perfect ending to a fantastic meal! Make sure you have room to try a couple things from their decadent dessert menu ;) Ao 26, It is a culinary gem that will leave you craving for more.

The food was very good. Tasty takes on seafood and other dishes. I had the ravioli which I really liked. We had the melancholic sardines and portugese tradicional starter board for appetizers, which were very tasty. Most dishes are small portions but some are fairly rich. Atmosphere was nice for a fancier dinner.

I have recently turned Vegan and this was the first time I have tried any Vegan restaurant ever! Good quality foods and very popular. Reservation is highly recommend. I had the lentil burger with mushrooms and sweet potatoes. Really loved it. For desert I have tried the Chocolate mouse. Maybe it was just me, but wasn’t a big fan of it. Tasted a little bit strange. Service is pretty decent. Servers are very friendly but could be a little more attentive though

Excelent vegan twist of the local cuisine. If it is too difficult to choose from the menu (as everything sounds delicious), go for the chef's daily dish, you cannot go wrong. The desserts are also all as tempting as one another.

Booked to take an international client/friend, as it was recommended by a friend. She and I were well pleased with the experience. Myself, because I am not at all vegan or even vegetarian and enjoyed the entire meal, loved the steak which was actually made of soya beans but looked like a steak! My friend is fully vegan and said it was the best meal she has had in 3 weeks between Lagos ( Algarve) and Lisboa. Just the toilets are little tricky and it was a little busier than it should.

AMAZING place! All the portuguese traditional dishes in their vegan form. You will finally get a taste for what is "a lagareiro", a francesinha or alheira. Ao 26 vegan project offers a wide variety of vegan entrées and dishes. We tried the vegan cheese board and it was really good! Out of the 4 offered cheeses, there were 2 that really had the mouthfeel and taste of real cheese. As a cheese lover (and hence impossible for me to go 100% vegan yet), I really appreciated these options! The main dishes are thought-out, with a nice presentation and flavour, and they always have a ever changing plate of the day according to their available fresh ingredients, which shows the dedication they put to it. The price for a full meal is around 20-25€ per person, but it's really worth it as a vegan treat! Recommended for a fancy vegan date, or for a lovely treat for yourself :)

We ordered fried cuttlefish, which can be better than the real fried cuttlefish! As a main dish we ordered the crispy tofu burger, the seitan bifana and the lagareiro tofu. They resemble and exceed the dishes in which they were inspired. The bifana has an intense flavor that makes it unforgettable, the tofu à lagareiro is simply delicious ... Finally, we ordered the salted caramel cake and the peanut pie. The salted caramel cake is very tasty, with a fantastic fresh chocolate base, why not taste the salted caramel ... The peanut pie is perfect! It reminds me of those Reese American chocolates, very greedy. :) I just think about going back! We had a pleasant experience at Ao 26! It was very interesting to try some vegan versions of traditional Lisbon dishes. The place is elegant, comfortable, the staff very kind. A main dish + dessert was very filling and satisfying. Thank you!

Busy place, so book a table in advance! We got lucky and could get a table last-minute, and what a delight that was! The food tastes amazing and the staff is super friendly, I would definitely come back here. The portions were definitely big enough, so we had to get our dessert as takeaway.

Ordered the Francesinha and sweet potato fries, which were both delicious.

We loved it!! Really good food, and the service was amazing!! The waiter would explain the dish and the ingredients to us, he was friend and nice.

Awesome vegan food. Actually didn't expect high standard place because the restaurant looks tiny/cozy but then we got surprised with food that deserves a price. You definitely see they do their job with love and passion. As a vegan in Lisbon it's definitely a must! Would recommend 100 percent

Loved it, went for their classic Henry & June dish ... vegan scallops + caviar ... was super impressed and had really lovely service! Can’t wait to go back!

Exquisite. Their chef is creating a true magic in the kitchen. Every dish is a poetry. Excellent service, cozy atmosphere. Possibly the best vegan restaurant in Lisbon. A must try.

Nice experience and there is a real work to be able to provide traditional Portuguese dish but vegan.

I really enjoyed the evening . Cozy little place, nice stuff and nice food . Could be a little bit „completer“(maybe the bread should be toasted for the sardine because it was really dry , and the tempeh needs a sauce , little bit umami and saltiness…) . But I really recommend it

I want to give it 4.5 stars. The food is fantastic, apart from the dish of the day: the sweet potatoe gnocchi. It was a bit bland. Service was lovely, the restaurant’s decor is fine. The acoustics are a bit harsh so it can be hard to hear! I know I shouldn’t compare to the Botanista but we had a better experience there. We’ll have to come back for more.

The food was less our favourit. The taste was nice and the People super friendly. But i ate better at other vegan restaurants. The soup was great thou

Amazing food, service and prices. I'll definitely come back here. Chili music, cozy environment and smiley people. What's not to like? Even if you are not veggan I still encourage you to embrace the experience and let this place surprise you. Do a reservation before going here. It will save time and it will make your experience even better.

Iam planteater for several years now & Iam not really into making things taste like cheese and such tho I love to try out things & let me tell you this is next level. That parmesan „cheese“ if you woulda have served me this some 7 plus years ago while I couldn’t have told a difference. Beautiful cozy interior, very lovely staff - highly recommended.

Incredible Portuguese vegan food - they have traditional items like bifana and cod but completely vegan. A must visit!

Wow! The best vegan dining experience we've had in the 8 days we've stayed in Lisbon (and probably the best vegan dining experience we've EVER had - and we live in London!) Very reasonably priced, expertly curated recipes, all with high quality ingredients and amazing flavours, a true showcase of innovative and thoughtful vegan recipes! We had the Portuguese Sharing Platter, Seitan Steak & Lentil Kebab (daily special), Creme Brulee & Chocolate Coffee Dessert. You've got to try this place! Oh and their white wine sangria is out of this world!

What a great culinary experience. We had a few of starters imitating fish and seafood as well as vegan camembert, and all tasted so good! I can’t wait to go back!

I turned up just after opening time without a reservation but they managed to squeeze me in. Food was delicious, staff were friendly, kitchen is open and hygiene standards appeared top notch. It's a popular place, book ahead! Would definitely return 👌

The ambiance and the presentation of the food is fantastic! I got “The Island” as a main course; it was a bit over salted so wouldn’t recommend this particular item but I’d definitely like to try other items on the menu. The dessert was excellent. All in all, a fantastic value.

What an amazing restaurant! I loved the food, the service, the vibe of the restaurant - everything. But oh my, the food was really amazing. I had the "tofu a lagareiro" and was so happy to eat "fish" again after so many years of being vegan and never finding good good fish alternatives. The seaweed definitely did it's job. And the cabbage was divine as well. Definitely can recommend this dish for any fellow fish lovers out there. And all in all the spot for all vegans in Lisbon!

We loved it! In our opinion, best vegan restaurant in Lisbon. Cozy place with super nice staff. We were there three times in a week and everything that we tried was amazing. Our favourites are: Island route (tempeh), Islander, Maracuja mousse and Matiné das 5.

We went here on a friend‘s recommendation and weren’t disappointed. The service is excellent and the food absolutely delicious. Prices are extremely fair. However my personal highlight was the dessert. It was so so so good. I would come back for the food but I would come back even more for the dessert.

The setting is very beautiful and fancy. The staff very professional if not a bit cold. I loved the “octopus” mushroom salad. Very fresh and fragrant but the burger was one of the worst things I’ve had. It was dry and tasteless. The fries lose their novelty taste real fast too. I would go back but try something more authentic.

First and foremost, the idea behind Ao 26 is truly magical. The restaurant takes classic Portuguese meals and recreates them in a vegan way, which is a refreshing and exciting concept. As someone who has tried many vegan restaurants in the past, I was particularly intrigued by this approach. Upon entering the restaurant, I was struck by its sophisticated style. The décor is elegant and minimalist, creating a calming atmosphere that is perfect for a relaxing meal. The staff are also incredibly friendly and polite, which only adds to the overall positive experience. Now, let's talk about the food. I have to say, I was blown away by the deliciousness of every dish I tried. It's clear that the chefs at Ao 26 are truly talented and passionate about their craft. From the flavorful appetizers to the satisfying main courses, each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. What I appreciated most about the food at Ao 26 was that it didn't feel like a compromise. As someone who loves traditional Portuguese cuisine, I was a bit skeptical that vegan versions would be able to stand up to the real thing. But I was pleasantly surprised by how satisfying and flavorful each dish was. Overall, I would highly recommend Ao 26 to anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience in Lisbon. The combination of vegan cuisine and traditional Portuguese flavors is truly one-of-a-kind! 😍

Hands down best vegan meal I've had in my entire life. Truly brings me sorrow that I can only have this once. Ask your server for recommendations and see if there is a chef dish of the day. I would travel back to Lisbon simply to eat here again. No matter what you order you will leave satisfied!

The place it self is very nice looking and very clean, professional staff . You must make a reservation if you want to eat there and they set you time how long you can stay. Even if the place was almost empty, they refused to accept people without reservation. The food looks better than it tastes, it was good but was expecting for better from place like that with their prices. I would not recommend the cheese plate, most of the cheese shaped like cheese but with creamy texture, also maybe one of them really tasted like cheese. But overall nice place, worth visit once.

I (vegan) was totally thrilled and grateful that I had the opportunity to try the traditional cuisine. The food was super delicious, the Service on point and very kind, informed us about the ingredients, very quick. I had "octopus" for the first time in my life (never thought about to eat a real one), and it was so tasty. My boyfriend (not vegan) enjoyed it as well and loved especially the Francesinha. I couldn't believe how tasty it is. I'll come back for sure.

What a wonderful vegan restaurant in Lisbon! We did not have a reservation and just spontaneously decided to stop by. The atmosphere is really cozy and I really loved the open kitchen. All the staff was very friendly with us and the service was perfect! The food....wow I think it was really delicious and with a wonderful presentation. We could not have asked for more for our first day in Portugal! This is definitely a place I would strongly recommend.

Great vegan Portuguese food. We had the octopus salad for a starter and then the ravioli, the francescina and mushrooms. Desserts were also very good, the pistachio cake was definitely the highlight of the evening. Extremely good service and nice atmosphere and design of the place.

Coming back to this place every time I’m in Lisbon! I’m not vegan but I appreciate fine cooking, and this place makes masterpieces. Lovely atmosphere with a very interesting and fun menu, traditional Portuguese food done vegan and even a few made better in my opinion. Reasonable prices, great service and attentive staff. Thank you! See you soon

nice vegan restaurant with diverse option to choose from in the center of Lisbon. I had tofu in seaweed and potatoes and greens. Really enjoyed my food and staff was also welcoming. Toasts are quite delicious. Some prices are a bid high though. Nevertheless, would come again here and enjoyed some other dishes.

The service was incredible, the girls who served us were super attentive and friendly, and the food... we didn't expect that we would find Portuguese food so well veganized and so delicious. Our experience was a 10 out of all vegan restaurants I've been to in my life.

By far the best vegan restaurant I've ever visited. All the dishes were delicious and professionally plated. I had the raviolini and my partner the seitan sandwich. Both extremely flavorful and filling. The staff is extremely professional and quick. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in Lisbon.

Such a cozy vegan restaurant with lots of Portuguese dishes. They have an open kitchen so you can see first hand how professionally and carefully they prepare all the dishes. The staff are very kind.

Great ambience. Good service. But the food was pretty awful I got the tofu and chips. Both the burger and the sweet potato fries were very dry and pasty. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this place is overhyped. The earlier menus looked good but I was sad to see that most items during my visit were designed to be fake meat styled rather than celebrating vegetables for what they are
