This isn't just one of my favourite restaurants in Lisbon, this is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. The rest of Lisbon clearly agrees, as there is always a queue outside and its almost impossible to get a table (book well in advance!). This restaurant is a great vibe, always packed and busy, and with a casual, community feel. Despite the popularity, its pretty cheap. We got five mains, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine for €84 🤯🤯 The food is amazing, definitely the best I've eaten here. The menu changes regularly but is always a selection of small, thoughtful plates. Very homely and full flavoured. You'll definitely get the best example of authentic Portugese cuisine here. On top of the amazing food, the staff are lovely 10/10, for real. • Service can be a bit slow due to its popularity, but enjoy having a slow lunch. • Book in advance • Arrive at 12:15 just before it opens to get a space on the wait list • Get the short rib sando, it's unreal

Excellent dinner! Really recommend to book a table before coming (we booked around 2 weeks in advance). Before opening, the queue already started. It is a shared dining concept and the staff explained to us the menu. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Their menu does not contain a lot of dishes but it definitely has variety. Because of that, they are able to master all their dishes. Everything we ordered was exceptionally delicious and it was a memorable meal!

By far the best meal we had in Portugal. The meals were extremely simple yet surprisingly packed with flavor. We had lamb croquettes sitting in a bed of gravy, a melon salad with a sour sweet vinaigrette, crispy sunflower seeds, and some greens. The flavor was extremely surprising and one of the best salads I’ve ever had. The next dish was a tuna medium-baked in a thick lemon butter sauce, just perfection. Followed by crisp octopus on a bed of garlicky smashed potatoes. And lastly roasted duck baked with rice and topped with diced pancetta served with a slice of orange that added a wonderful brightness to an otherwise heavy dish. Everything was perfect. The flavors were so perfect. The most interesting thing is, they served every course without ever changing plates, and somehow every dish’s residual flavor on the plate meshed perfectly with the next. The meal was so coherent and well planned, and you didn’t miss having a clean plate whatsoever. You must make this restaurant a priority for your visit!

Imagine going to a friend’s place to have dinner and share great moments while eating unbelievably good food? The food is a revisited version of very traditional Portuguese food, very well prepared, and the wine and beer options just fit perfectly with the dishes. The cherry on top is the vibe: the staff is not only friendly and nice, the actually are having fun with the customers while working super hard to provide the best experience possible. Can not recommend more!

Make sure to make a reservation if you want to try this place, they are busy and they are booked. Very hard to get a seat if you just drop by, specially during high season. All items we ordered were memorable but the squid and orange was superb. The squid was perfectly cooked, paired well with the orange sauce. The squid was fresh which augment the flavours of the sauce. Notable mention is the sausage and cabbage, the sauce in it was divine. We will definitely be back. We really enjoyed it.

Definitely the best meal had during the trip! Super friendly and welcoming people, fantastic food with fair prices. It’s hard to get wrong with the menu. Highly recommend their lamb with chestnut and octopus rice! Also don’t forget to try their dessert, the bread pudding and lemon mousse were both amazing! Can’t wait to go back to try everything on the menu!

Our dinner at O Velho Eurico was not only the best meal we had in Portugal, but it was one of the best I have ever had. Everything we tried was fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection. The chefs here really understand flavour combinations, textures and how to balance a dish. We tried the octopus, the chicken hearts with grapes and vinegar, the squid with oranges (what a flavour combination!), the lightly cooked tuna and the lamb croquettes. Everything was fantastic, especially the lamb croquettes which tasted like a roast dinner, with the perfect amount of mint added to the lamb. It is a very, very small space, so you must make a reservation (via Instagram). When we arrived for our 8pm reservation, every other table was reserved and they had to turn away people away who didn't have a booking. It's an informal, relaxed place with friendly staff. I was really impressed by the high quality of the food, and the very reasonable prices, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lisbon.

I have been trying to come here for years and I finally was able to make a reservation (few months in advance) and made it! The restaurant is super old school/typical Portuguese with small seatings, so you may feel squished and uncomfortable if seated on a mini bar stool. The food was spectacular, a twist to traditional Portuguese dishes - it had so much flavor and everything was so fresh. Our favorite was the beef shank sando and the arroz de cabidela. Desserts were also amazing, so make sure you save some space for that. The pão de ló was a perfect balance of sweetness and I loved how they added a drizzle of olive oil and salt. The menu changes regularly so I am definitely coming back here to try other dishes!

I would recommend this place enthusiastically to anyone who visits Lisbon. Every bite here was absolutely incredible. Make a reservation via DM on Instagram first! They are booked early. We got very lucky by showing up right as they were opening and shared a table with other people. We got the lamb croquette, beef shank sandwich, octopus and garlic, chicken gizzards, and garlic + coriander porridge. Each dish was true to itself with elevated elements with the fried garlic with the octopus or the mint in the lamb croquette. There was not a single drop left on the plate when we were done since we got bread as well. Service was quick considering how quickly it became packed by 12:45 and it is really fun to watch people’s reaction to how good the food is. Can’t wait to come back!

We chose to dine at this restaurant on our first night in Lisbon based on the positive reviews on Google Maps, despite being informed of a 1.5-hour wait. Unfortunately, it became evident that patrons who arrived after us were seated before us. Consequently, after waiting for nearly 2.5 hours, our orders were forgotten (three times), and our food was served on chipped plates, unlike other tables. I hate to think it, but was it due to our Asian ethnicity? This experience deeply saddened me, particularly because I love Portugal so much. The food itself might have been good, but eating under such unpleasant circumstances made it less enjoyable.

One of the best place in Lisbon. Be prepare to wait in a line. It’s worth to be 30/45 min before the opening to put on a waiting list. Great food, amazing atmosphere and charming service. They know what they do!

Delicious food but very little portions. It’s a local place but prices are higher respect to other restaurants. It’s a small restaurant so it’s better to book before because it’s always full. It has a cozy and warm atmosphere. The staff is friendly and young but very busy!

The food was extremely good - fresh interpretations of Portuguese standards. Unfortunately the service was super disappointing: We waited and waited and waited and at some point had to remind the waiter what we ordered. It‘s no problem if an order gets lost if you do something about it. But not noticing that people sit for ages in front of empty plates is not OK. What a pity, I really wanted to like this place.

Had to wait in line quite a bit because we hadn’t made a reservation, recommend doing that through instagram before going there or being open to maybe 1h wait or a bit more… but 100% worth it, and you can have a drink while you wait. Service was amazing, they made great recommendations for food, were quick and helpful the whole time. 100% will be back in our next visit to Lisbon!!! Paid somewhere under 50€ for 2pax, beers, 3 plates and dessert.

Restaurant is located near the castle so very convenient to stop here before or after that activity. Its a casual hip hop restaurant and I imagine it would be lovely to have a glass of wine outside in the summer. The workers seem to enjoy their job and are happy to recommend you dishes and help if you don't understand the menu. Its busy and they are groovy in mood which is good. Food: We ordered many dishes. Croquettes were cold but that's fine it is a starter and we ate it very quickly. Chicken rice- Heavy on vinegar. I could not eat it but people were ordering it so perhaps its not for everyone. Lamb dish- Perfect and tasted amazing. Squid- comes with orange base sauce, little complicated but we liked it. Thank you for offering us a little treat at the end of the meal, we really appreciated it. Overall, good ^ ^

We adooored this place! Food was perfect (and even beyond that), service was amazing and the atmosphere impeccable! Not to mention the awesome playlist (Tuesday 3rd of Oct) 💫 We had bread, olives, sardines on toast, piri-piri shrimps, octopus and cabbage salad! Drinks also delicious ~ Book in advance! Or arrive in good time before opening ~ At LEAST 30min before or earlier! Worth the wait if you want good food!

O Velho Eurico was not an easy place to get in. The first time we showed up and their was a 10 table waiting list. So, we decided to try and book online later however there wasn’t any availability until the day after we left. However, on me and my wife’s anniversary we showed up, waited for about half hour right when they opened and managed to get a spot as there was a no show. The food was SUPERB! Best food we’ve eaten in Lisbon! An absolute must! The food was delicious and the staff and vibes of the place were very fun and light hearted. Highly recommend!

Wonderful experience, super friendly team and ridiculously well priced food! We had no booking but got there a little before opening, would definitely advise booking if you can. We got a seat outside. We ordered: - Fried cuttle fish - “Hand job” cod salad - Piri piri shrimps All of the dishes were all incredible. We were advised 3-4 dishes which worked perfectly. We additionally ordered some bread to mop up the sauce from the prawn dish - that was to die for! Would highly recommend.

I experienced a wait of approximately 40 minutes during lunchtime before being seated. While the food was decent overall, I found the portions to be rather small considering the price. However, I would like to highlight the prawn dish as a standout recommendation. The sauce accompanying it was truly excellent and paired wonderfully with the bread. On the other hand, the pork and orange dish, as well as the fried cuttlefish, left me with an ordinary impression

A to Z more than amazing. They environment and staff there are amazing. Food is beyond tasty. The meat was melting in my mouth. Just for owner, need to change tipping policy, because you cannot tip by card and only cash which is not fair as some customers do not carry cash.

As Portuguese as it gets! Velho Eurico was a wonderful surprise and a must go when in Lisbon. Make sure to have your reservation before going or you'll face long lines. The restaurant is super small (maybe less than 30 seats, total) but the crew and their dishes are something you should experience when in town.

While most of the food places I tried in Lisbon didn’t wow me, this place definitely did! Get the beef shank sando and octopus (croquette was pretty good too). Really amazing and price is great too. Make sure to make a reservation (small restaurant). Saw people waiting almost an hour to get a table.

Lively restaurant with cool vibes serving up Portuguese dishes. Service was friendly and fun. I’m not very familiar with Portuguese food so everything was pretty unique and different for me. We did enjoy every dish. We tried the cabbage sprouts & celery bulb, diced tuna, guided chicken, codfish bras, piri-piri shrimps. The cabbage sprouts & celery bulbs were topped with this creamy sauce which made for an interested taste and texture, not that it was bad though as I did like it. The codfish was topped with what reminded me of chips (think hickory sticks) which was kinda cool, although made it hard to find the fish under it. The diced tuna was recommended by the waiter which I did like, it was lemony and buttery. The piri-piri shrimps were a bit hard to peel as it stuck to the shell but it was delicious, really liked the sauce. The grilled chicken was the standout dish! Really liked how juicy it was, very well grilled, and the spicy sauce is delicious as well. Definitely would order this dish again. We didn’t have a reservation so we arrived around 30 minutes before opening to line up. We were the 3rd table in line (after a group of 1 and a group of 2) and we waited 2 hours to be seated. They seat all reservations first for that time period (lunch or dinner) before seating any waitlist. Basically you wait for a reservation table to be done eating before you are seated. Would I recommend waiting in line for 2 hours? Probably not, do it if you have time to spare and don’t mind the long wait. If you are waiting, do go early to be one of the first few in line or you probably won’t get a seat. Would I go again if I had reservations? Yeah why not. Edited to add if you drink beer, definitely get the beer! It was so refreshing, crisp, and delicious - made the wait a little better.

Not that this place needs more reviews, but I couldn't not leave a little praise. This restaurant lived up to the hype, the food was so delicious!! The restaurant itself is a little cozy, but part of the charm. We didn't have a dish that we didn't like. Highly recommend you reserve a meal here if you get the chance.

It’s been 3 weeks since we returned home from our Europe vacation and we are still salivating over the dinner we had at O Velho Eurico. We did not have a reservation and made an attempt on 2 different nights to get in. At first we thought this is just a tourist trap and not worth the hype on the first night. On night #2, we decided to line up 30 mins before the restaurant opened and ended up waiting 3 hours for an available table (they were fully booked months in advance) You might think we are crazy (we never wait for a table for so long) but we were determined to try this place and ended up making friends with other patrons so the time flew by. Now fast forward to dinner…..OMG. I have to write this in cap locks - BEST MEAL IN LISBON (and we had alot of fantastic dinners that were runners up.) We had the bread/cheese/olives for a starter - it was some sort of sheep cheese that melts in your mouth. Now moving on to our entrees - we did the Piri Piri Shrimp, the “Guided” chicken (this was grilled with a phenomenal house made Piri Piri sauce - you will want to ask for more to slather and dip your chicken), Poultry sausage with Cornbread, Grilled Squid & Orange. The portion sizes were generous and we ate all with no regrets. Our friends next to us also shared some of their dishes which were also fantastic - the cold cockles were tasty and refreshing and the dessert Caramel Mousse was phenomenal (sorry didn’t take pics of our friends’ dishes) This is a MUST VISIT restaurant in Lisbon - we will be definitely making an early reservation as part of our next travel plans to Lisbon.

Was a delicious evening, the beef sandwich was a great combination of taste, sweet bread with high quality meat. The stuff was super friendly and helped to chose red wine. The vibe is fresh and young, very clean place, in general best place to eat so far in Lisboa. The only thing its the space, its small cozy place, so you should order a table best few days before or at least as we did few hours before, we still needed to wait a bit outside, but nothing ruined the experience because the waiters always keep you in shape even outside with cold beer. Great job O Velho Eurico!

Wow. What can I say? This place is run by hip young kids, but they know what they’re doing in the kitchen. Such a good vibe and AMAZING food. Be aware that they get busy FAST! We got by on a waiting list but you can only make reservations on Instagram. So, so very worth it.

This is a charming little place with great food and vibes and kind staff. Their portions are tapas sized. It is very popular with tourist and locals - so you will need to book in advance. Try to book outside. The menu highlight for me was squid with orange and some vino verde - served in cereal bowls. Did I say I loved the pottery too? 😉

Hands down the best meal I had in Lisbon. I didn't reserve beforehand but got to the restaurant 20min before opening for lunch to get first on the walk in list. Had to wait another 45min but was absolutely worth it. The food was delicious, service was great. Staff were friendly and had fun with the guests! Email them to reserve, they replied immediately and suggested I try for lunch as they didn't have any openings when I was in town.

O Velho Eurico Restaurante Tipico, Lisbon: Highly vaulted and so well reviewed by almost every possible publication and guide out there, O Velho was on my A list of places to eat at. Near Castelo de Jorge, it is an altar of fantastic food that has a line of people waiting waiting waiting. So be smart. Bookings open a month prior so book it. It’s tiny and so no-frills. Nothing matches in the eatery. So eccentric is it that there are 2 rooms and you walk through the kitchen to get to the other room. How they serve up the magic dishes in that small kitch is mind boggling. Menu changes frequently which reflects on their creativity. As pescatarians, we had cod salad which really was these fresh cod hunks with endive strips. If you’re a die-hard cod fan like us, you would be delighted at the salted flavours. Then there’s the gorgeous squid over orange sauce which wouldn’t make common bedfellows usually but somehow this marriage worked. The best of the best was the piri piri shrimps which was so good, I drank off all the sauce. I don’t know what’s in there but there’s this caramel sort of buttery after taste that you don’t want an ending to. The chefs and staff are young, fantastic and really happy. As Portuguese songs belt out, you hear them all singing aloud and genuinely lapping up what they love doing. It’s an incredible experience so make sure this is your Lisboa experience. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Phenomenal! I'm so glad I made a reservation for my solo dinner on my last night in Portugal. The restaurant is very small and the server was super friendly and helpful. I fell in love with the pulpo - tender and flavorful. The potatoes that came with it were outstanding. Best meal in Portugal and I will definitely come back every time I come to Lisbon.

Chicken hearts with grapes in a vinegar sauce - a dish that could have come from a medieval cookbook, but no it was served to us by enthusiastic chefs in their twenties in Lisbon. Fabulous food to be had at @ovelhoeurico. We ate that dish with gusto (chicken offal is usually thrown straight in the bin) it was rich, tangy, sweet, sour delicious. The grilled quail in lemon and garlic sauce was superb, the best I’ve had. All the dishes were of exceptional quality. The staff love their food and the enthusiasm is infectious. You have to book for this one and those who don’t hang about outside waiting to pounce on your table as you finish up.

My new favorite restaurant!!! I recommend you to come on time during the week so you might make it on the waiting list otherwise you reserve via the email address. Casual restaurant with cool people. You can just order whatever you want and it will be good. Be sure to order the olives and cheese at the beginning and three main courses and two desserts are long enough for two adults. Have a good time with vino and friends

I finally had the chance to check out Velho Eurico, this little restaurant near Alfama, Lisbon. I made a reservation almost a month in advance, and my expectations were high. Unfortunately, Velho Eurico didn't quite live up to the hype. The food was ok, and the ambiance had a certain charm, but the music was all over the place, going from heavy metal to fado in a way that was just too loud. It was hard to relax and have a conversation without shouting to be heard at the table. But the real letdown was the service. We ordered at least three small dishes that were completely forgotten, and we had to remind the staff multiple times. In the end, we just gave up on the last dish and asked for the check. And to top it off, they didn't even bother to clear the table between courses. I noticed this happening at other tables, too, and we had to ask the staff to clean up while we waited for the forgotten food to arrive. Overall, my experience at Velho Eurico was a bit of a disappointment. The food was alright, but the service definitely left something to be desired.

It might not be the most tradition portuguese dishes that we had but its so far my favourite restaurant in Lisbon! Since we were 5, we could order almost everything on the menu and ALL of them was just so good. Small dishes that you can share, you will see basic stuff like green salad or bacalhau… but you will be surprised as they are all twisted and just so GOOD! Very busy on the weekend so book ahead if you can, the music was quite loud for a small place but love their vibe. Highly recommended!!!

We arrived to find a robust array of humans waiting outside of O Velho Eurico! Are they locals? Are they tourists? Who are they?! Well to our local taste pallet we were please to realize that they were in fact mainly locals! How lovely. Unfortunately, we were late on the trend and were seated on the outer region with cigarette smokers and beer drinkers, which turned out being a stupendous highlight of the evening. Despite the small menu options for the outdoor dining, we ordered what we could: a beef sandwich and a lamb croquette. upon the first bite of the delectable meat sandy I was instantly transported to the time my mother cooked her very first beef stew in the Dutch oven that my great grandma had traveled long and far with from Slovenia with, and i instantly shed a profound tear. Next, the croquette: may I say I hate lamb. But, this lamb croquette was something straight out of a fairy tale book. Lovely. Euphoric. Enticing. After snacking on some delectable treats, we eventually were seated inside. Sitting side by side with locals and some tourists who clanked their glasses and held hands hands underneath the tables, i and my dear fiancé ordered nearly 1 of everything off of the menu. As we ate the chicken hearts, our love for this place only grew bigger. The chicken hearts paired with the succulent grapes doused in a delicious sauce brings me back to the time my father butchered his first chicken and roasted it in the oven. The duck and rice were dream like, and the octopus was meaty and juicy in all the right places! Oh what a time. O Velho Eurico created a bond so close with my man and i that I couldn’t help but write such a dashingly detailed review. I wish nothing but gorgeous things for this fine establishment, as their food, their ambiance, their dedication to the craft truly shows. Well done! Brava! May the camel spit on us all! (Inside joke🤪)
