So far the worst ever 5 star hotel experience. We arrived at 12 noon having booked 2 double rooms in July. We were told the rooms would be ready between 2 and 3pm. At 2.25pm we asked whether the rooms were ready - the duty manager then checked and after 5 minutes we were given the key cards for the 2 rooms. One room was a twin room. I immediately rang down and asked for the room to be changed to a double room. I was passed on to another lady 3 times and gave up trying to explain this simple problem so I decided to go to reception. There was no apology whatsoever, just a suggestion that they could zip the 2 beds together. Not ideal at all as this room is laid out and designed as a twin bedded room. What's the point in booking in July at a 5 star Hotel when they can't allocate the rooms properly on the day? This is not a cheap hotel 2* that you expect to make this type of elementary mistake. After some strong words were spoken they offered another room, which was dark and dingy, nothing like the second correct double room for the second couple. There were apologies and a promise of better room tomorrow for the rest of our 5 day stay. What a waste of our time on our vacation, sorting out the detailed reservation made 2 months ago and having to move rooms twice. I asked three times for the name of the manager (who clearly was not working the weekend) and on all 3 occasions the manager and staff at the reception desk refused to provide the name. It will take a huge improvement in the service at this expensive hotel over the remainder of our trip to even consider whether to return here or indeed recommend this 5*?! hotel to any of our travelling friends.

Decent hotel. Not 5 star but priced reasonably, so what you should expect. Found the reception team very helpful when we arrived early. Only recommendation is they change location of breakfast which is in a windowless room and not very welcoming.

I don't know how this hotel got a 5-star rating. It's either a good 3-star or a bad 4-star. Definitely not 5. It's quite old with limited facilities. The room was old and had a small window. The sheets on the bed were tacky and not fitted. The shower was difficult to work. Nothing in the room was inclusive (they charge a ridiculous €1.50 for a single Nespresso pod - much better off to get a real coffee outside). The breakfast was quite average. The only redeeming thing was that all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Props to them!

Definitely not up to 5 star standards. No working room safe, advised to use friends room next door for our valuables!! No net curtains/blinds so apartments opposite could see into room. Charged for tea & coffee, which I have never been in any hotel before. Shower good, but flimsy curtain which flew around everywhere due to power of water & flooded floor. Staff pleasant, especially housekeeping, but reception couldn't always resolve issues. Spa & jacuzzi not working & no plans to fix. Bar area nice, but service very slow, waited half hour for a drink & not easy to order as had to wait ages. Staff pleasant, but it wasn't busy so shouldn't take that long to serve. Breakfast very good. Overall was ok, but not up to 5 star standards, 3 or 4 at best.

I am shocked that this hotel is a 5-star hotel. I got to the hotel at 9am and was told that our room would not be ready till 3pm. I booked for a single queen size bed but when I got to the room, there was two twin size beds. I immediately went downstairs and before I even said anything, they said it’s about the beds right? I answered yes and they told me that they ran out of single queen size beds but housekeeping can combine the two twin size beds. I said fine but I’m thinking if this was possible, why didn’t they do that before I went to the room? Weird. I waited for house keeping to combine the beds and sleeping on the combined beds, you can tell that it’s two separate beds. In the rooms, the TV is a 27” screen which is very surprising for a “5 star hotel.” My room was missing the room service menu and pricing menu for the drinks. The room is quite small and the thermostat is quite outdated... it is not digital. The room is also missing night stands. The bathroom is very old as well. The tub is an old tub and the sink drain is clogged. There are not many bathroom amenities. There are no toothbrush or toothpaste and limited towels. Although the location is good, there are other hotels I’d rather try in the area. I will not be staying here in the future

Happy with the value of our stay. Paid $250 for two nights in an upgraded room with balcony and sitting area. Although the balcony view was not exactly pleasant. I would say it seems slightly less than a 5 star but the value is good. The breakfast was a very nice surprise as it was more than expected. Every request we made and need was met satisfactorily so we have no complaints per se. I would however expect a snack or bottle of water in the room for a 5 star.

There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the hotel, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a 5-star hotel. At best, it's more like a 4-star hotel, though I've been to 3-star hotels that have been better in many ways. It's all about the small things - for instance, the bathroom is in serious need of refurbishments as the bath itself doesn't work, and the shower head also wasn't the best. I also didn't enjoy the "squeeze bottle" soaps since these leave a very cheap feel of the hotel. The breakfast was good and perfectly accommodated our special dietary needs (e.g. being lactose-free or low-fat) and the dry cleaning service was incredibly swift. However, from a 5-star hotel, I wouldn't have expected that coffee and tea in the room come with an extra charge - I've even been to 3-star hotels that offer coffee and tea in the room for free. Overall, if you've been to many hotels, the overall vibe will instantly make you feel as if you're not in a 5-star hotel for sure, more like a 4-star hotel at best.

This hotel is a real gem and is located on a quiet street moments from the city centre by Uber. However, what we have found disappointing on our last two stages is that the health spa in the basement still isn’t open. This seems strange since other hotels we have stayed in in Portugal have fully open their facilities. They really should look at making this a priority as it is one of the best things about the hotel!

More of a 4 star hotel, than a 5. Service solid but not great. Breakfast good, but always same. Gym small and limited hours. Price was excellent and location good.

What a nice Hotel close to downtown and located a block from the Metro, easy travel to the Airport from there. Clean and friendly staff. Great coffee and desserts just around the corner, must have. Highly recommend if visiting Lisbon.

This place has so much potential but the staff are SO rude - I've actually never known anything like it. The receptionists need to be put on a customer service course. Very snarky. Disappointed as the building and the rooms are lovely. Except our first room had an ant's nest in it. No apology of course - we were to made to feel like an inconvenience for mentioning it. If they had been polite and helpful I would not be writing this review. The porter was really nice that helped us move rooms but the women on reception were extremely rude. The attitude of the staff ruined our experience and upset us; making us feel uncomfortable. Expect eye rolling and sarcastic comments. Not helpful whatsoever. Breakfast staff were much nicer. Cleaner was rude - rolled her eyes and shouted when we asked for water. We even smiled and said goodbye as we left but she gave us dirty looks (simply for asking for water). Not good for 4* / 5* hotel. I deeply regret parting with hundreds of pounds to stay here. I would never stay here again.

The rooms are nice and well equipped however I think it's a bit cheeky to charge €1.50 for a coffee in the room. The breakfast was excellent. The restaurant was very disappointing, upon arrival we were made to feel they were doing us a favour for seating us without a reservation when in fact there were only 4 tables in use for the entire time we were there. The prawn risotto had an overpowering taste of lime which spoiled it. The chocolate brownie with red fruits was not a brownie but some rock hard chocolate 'cake' that I had to use a lot of pressure to cut with a knife, as for the red fruits, it came with 1 raspberry and 2 small blueberries. At no point did any member of staff ask us if our meal was okay, it was not! I would not eat there again, it was overpriced and below average especially since this is rated as a 5* hotel. Overall the restaurant was a major disappointment.

Absolutely terrible sham of a hotel. Stayed in late August with my family. The room was moderately clean but there were parts of the room that were falling apart, such as one of the sockets, the third bed in the room etc. The TV was old fashioned and had a sticky remote. No fun there. The gym is tiny, had old equipment and is just generally looked unloved. The breakfast was okay. On the first day, we were immediately led to the secondary room which we quickly learnt, was secondary both in option and in quality. It was only after insisting from the second day onwards, that we were led to to the primary room which had ample space for the five of us every time. Both rooms should have been equal in quality of offerings, and this was not the case. The breakfast was samey and we quickly got bored of it. Some of the food labels were missing - allergic reaction waiting to happen. The waiting staff was amazing as was the gentleman at the breakfast reception. There is no pool at the hotel - please note this in case this is a dealbreaker for you. The location was good. Now, here is where I'd advise you all to be very careful, because it seems that this hotel is a fan of providing incorrect and incomplete information and charging for it. My father put his card down (for incidentals) and the hotel used this to their advantage, to charge him for something that none of us had any idea he would be charged for. We booked a tour with this hotel, and my father paid for this - he was told that it cost 45 Euros. At no point was he told that he would incur any further costs. The tour guide was good but now looking back, I wonder. The tour lasted for about 4 hours in total. When we got back to the UK, my father checked his account and saw that he had been charged a further 100 and something Euros. Upon relaying this to the hotel, nothing was done and no accountability was taken,. It was never explained that we would be charged for more hours (on top of the one hour that the tour was apparently supposed to last for - my father was never told this). Real Palacio, I am disgusted at your lack of accountability, professionalism and care. I feel you took advantage of the fact that we were not naive to Lisbon and your goal and aim was to deceive and steal. I will ensure that everyone I speak to knows that your business is a sham, and will encourage everyone to boycott it. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

We stayed here for one night, room was very clean and shower got hot fast and had nice pressure, nice front view and good blackout. Eugenia, Beatriz and bellboy Paulo from the reception were very lovely and approachable. Breakfast was okay, good pastries but need to work on the bacon, eggs and orange juice.

If anybody is trying to find good deals for hotels visit RoomBuIIy. com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere! The hotel was clean, staff friendly, no restaurant on site but located close to restaurant, a large store like Macy, St. George Park, the tour bus hub, trendy neighborhood and Botanical garden. If you do not mind walking you can easily get to the various square and main shopping areas. Taxis are accessible and affordable

We stayed at Real Palacio during our trip to Lisbon. I stayed with my mother and daughter for 4 nights in July. The hotel is very well located and is at a walking distance to the metro and the shopping mall! The hotels foyer has a typical Portuguese set up and had a warm feel to it.The breakfast buffet was also very nice especially the bread and cheese selection. The staff was wonderful at answering questions and explaining various things including giving directions. The service was great as we were given a charger for our phones as none of our plugs would fit. On request we were also given an ironing board . Highly recommended for family stays.

Really nice hotel. Decent location, about 2 km from city old town center. It has a small spa, which was included in price, really convenient. Breakfast buffet is really good. Generally hotel needs refreshment, its a little bit worned out...

A fabulous place to base your stay in Lisbon. Only a 5 minutes walk from Parque subway station and in the quieter part of the city. The rooms are nice and the room servicing is top notch. There's a restaurant and sports bar on site too and a couple of lovely restaurants just outside the rear entrance to the sports bar. Overall, very highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Unless the applicable standards are different in Lisbon, this establishment should not be rated as 5-star hotel. But it is a very good, very nice 4-star hotel. (Its prices have to be adjusted accordingly, though…) It does need some basic renovations. I could but will not give any specific details, because it could sound more serious than it is. But it has to be done. It is situated in a quiet, charming neighbourhood, which was important for us. And yet, it is not far from the busy, dynamic, «fun» areas of the city.

Disappointed with my stay. Staff on the desk were unwelcoming on arrival, could not even muster the energy for a smile. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Disappointed to find the used cups in the bathroom sink after the room had been cleaned. Breakfast was good and waiting staff were nice. On checking out, I was informed I’d used the minibar. I had eaten some biscuits that were left near the kettle. How can they be from the minibar if they are not in the fridge. Told reception I was unhappy with this and the woman was completely ambivalent. Pay for some biscuits in a 5 star hotel? Would not recommend you stay here, considering the price.

The rooms aren't anything to write home about - the decor is dated. But I didn't come to Lisbon to stay in the room so let's move on to the important stuff. The hotel staff is welcoming and professional, the rooms are dated but clean, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. The location is the highlight! I was in the thick of things from retail stores to restaurants.

Located in a nice quiet neighborhood. Very welcoming and friendly reception desk. Easy check in and check out. They validate parking, but the parking garage is very tight so just be careful. Walking distance to great cafes that I highly recommend trying out.

Our stay at Hotel Real Palácio was very pleasant. The service was great, the hotel was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Parking was also very accessible. There is a parking garage, and parking out front of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. We were staying to celebrate my friends 80th birthday. The staff were exceptional , efficient and friendly and worked as a team. Whilst we were there , on last night my friend sadly passed away. I would personally like to thank Philip on front of house who worked with paramedics and tried to resuscitate my friend. He looked after me throughout and went the extra mile. I would also personally like to thank the GM who came to me and gave me heartfelt condolences. The rest of front of house and general bar area also looked after me before departure. I will never forget this place and it’s lovely staff for what they did and for how they treated us. A great hotel in a great location

I’ve travelled a lot and this place is definitely not a 5-star hotel… First of all, the reception should consider improving its sense of service. Breakfast was okay, even if the staff in the breakfast area wasn’t very friendly. The only positive thing about this hotel is the location.

  • 2/5 Catarina D. 4 years ago on Google
I was very disappointed with this 5-star hotel. The rooms are poorly decorated, and with dusty carpet floors, the bathrooms are poor when compared to quite a few 4 star hotels, let alone 5 stars, and some features you would expect to find in a room, you have to call reception to ask for them. There is no indoor pool, and the bar area is average, and the food is average. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel in Lisbon, there are way better options.

Avoid SCAM! This hotel says they're five stars but it is rundown and aging and would not even be four stars if it was brand new. all of the pictures online are misleading. After our first night sleeping on their thin hard mattress we contacted their management and the booking agency to cancel the remainder of our stay, they would not refund the rest of our stay. We will dispute with our credit card and will report Agoda and Priceline to the Better Business Bureau as they are in collusion with these fake hotels to rip off people.

The hotel is classified as a 5* hotel but it doesn't feel like it. Our room was spacious & the beds comfortable but the final "polish" was lacking. I wanted an early dinner so phoned room service but was told that the kitchen was closed for another hour. Luckily there is a Sports Bar which sold snacks - where I bought some food (then took some of it back to my room). There is tea & coffee in the room but only by reading another review here did I realise that they charged €1.50 for each coffee! Having said all this the hotel is almost in the back garden of El Corte Inglés & close to two metro stops. The staff were friendly, the room clean. The quality of the food in the buffet breakfast was excellent. There doesn't seem to be a huge choice but there is fresh fruit, hot breakfast, eggs to order, and of course pastel de nata which were hard to pass by! The room was definitely value for money.

Nice room, breakfast good too. Sadly no milk in room,no courtesy bottle of water, no tea spoon for making coffee. Toiletries good, bed comfy, staff nice overall a nice time just needs a few little touches.

I was here for a week and all I can say is: horrible! I can not believe how they received a five star status. It is completely run down. There is mold. The room smells very bad and it is not particularly clean. Also the rooms are very dusty.

A lovely hotel that is well-situated to access all of the city. Very comfortable accommodation with attractive decor. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Paulo on reception. A lovely place for a mini break.

Spa not working at all at any time during the whole week. Stayed here because of the hot tub to relax, but not working neither and never advised before, even this was not New. But reception staff highly insisted many times that the gym is ok, which was great to hear when traveling when a person with reduced mobility not able to walk well! No apologies, nothing but "not working and get back to your room", you'll get nothing more but desappoinment. Sincerely regret not having book a cheaper hotel! Breakfast and breakfast/restaurant staff really nice though!

Great hotel and great service. Restaurant food was delicious and ate there twice. Beware the underground car park - narrow hairpin bends to get down. Very tight in a big car!

I came from Netherlands to Portugal to spend quality time with my family. I thought I booked 5 star hotel but unfortunately this hotel standard is 2 star. I booked for 3 persons but at reception they said they have place for only 2 persons. At 11:30 pm we were so tired waiting to sort out this problem. Then we have to go to different hotel and suffer a lot. I would not recommend this place. Believe me it's not 5 star. Horrible customer service and building so old , furniture old

  • 1/5 Hanish P. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely not 5 star. An underwhelming mediocre 4 star at best. I have never been charged for a bottle of water or coffee in the room. Our room, which was on the 2nd floor of the old building, smelt musty. It even lacked bare necessities like slippers. The staff are not very friendly(especially in the breakfast area, which I prefer to call a dungeon). Overall the service is lacking and standards are well below 5star. Other than the location, there’s nothing really good to say about this place and I prefer not to leave negative reviews but this place really got my goat. Not chuffed at all.

Giving another review for the outstanding hotel and its service! The hotel is located in very convenient and safe area that is close to the city center, beautiful park, restaurants and the stores ALL in walking distance. The hotel is very clean and have wonderful interiors/exteriors. All the staffs were very helpful and professional!! The breakfast buffet was excellent and so convenient! Loved freshly cooked, excellent quality simple menu, and wonderful services. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had the best time staying at the hotel which made the most memorable visit in Lisbon. I’d definitely will stay there again. Thank you!!

Mediocre property and price point doesn’t align with decor and rooms. The neighborhood is excellent - lots of great coffee shops. Watch out for cancellation policy - hotel is inflexible and doesn’t allow changes. I truly regret booking in here.

The worst experience in a hotel. They hardly speak and understand english, it was really complicated to communicate. At the bar they simply ignored us... We had to order twice the breakfast because they had forgotten : we waited 45 minutes to be served. And good luck with the lift ! You need the key card to use it and it is quite tricky... To avoid

  • 2/5 Sophie M. 1 year ago on Google
The room was bare of room necessities and simple. Paying so much money a night you’d expect at least complimentary water but not at this hotel, you have to pay €2.50 for 500cl. Wifi was spotty in the rooms. Breakfast was ok, but not 5 star material. There was also a long waiting line for breakfast in the morning. The breakfast room is too small to accommodate all guests. Staff were really pleasant but that’s all the hotel has going for it. The room wasn’t very clean. Cups and saucers had dust and marks on it. Honestly I’ve been more comfortable at a 4 star hotel. It’s like the 5 star is just for show. Also background music was annoyingly loud. Not sure how 5 stars were awarded.

We loved this hotel, what a great find! Lovely, comfortable hotel and the food in the bar and restaurant excellent. Breakfast was great too, lots of choice, including cooked, continental and pastries. Staff were professional and friendly. Very conveniently located too and great value for money.

Not a 5 star hotel, maybe an okay-ish 4 star experience. Nice rooms, somewhat worn and basic amenities. Good fitness facilities. The staff was not very friendly, just kinda an indifferent vibe. Breakfast selection is okay. Other than that, I tried their lunch menu, got a ceasar salad and the chicken literally tasted like bad fish, took that as a sign to start my diet early .... So not a bad hotel, it can just be done much better, and don't eat there

  • 3/5 Nina P. 2 years ago on Google
I would rate this a 3* hotel but I suppose 4* is fair given the low average price. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and I did not sleep properly for the 3 nights I was there (and I sleep like a champion). Breakfast was plentiful but in a dark crowded room in the basement which was quite unwelcoming. The general ambiance and decor is old and classic but not with the charm that is reflected in all of the pictures. The service and staff however were fantastic.

Clean and comfortable, friendly staff, tasty breakfast. I was in a room on ground floor and wifi was not working there. Also around every hour bad fumes are coming into the room from air conditioner even when its off. Wasn't expecting that from a 5-star hotel

The staff is very friendly and professional, the breakfast was also very good. however we had bad luck with the bathroom and wi-fi. The evaluation dropped for this reason only. Please, change the towels for new one’s. Mine had literally holes on it.

  • 3/5 Alan K. 2 years ago on Google
Pros: room service, housekeeping and most of the front desk attention was great. Cons: Wifi is terrible in rooms, my room smelled like my grandmas house, heating is subpar so if there's less than 8°C outside you'll probably be cold at night, parking is extremelly small and charged manually everytime you leave it even if you are staying for several days, keys are instantly demagnetized by the door lock in some rooms, so if you are unlucky and get one of those rooms you'll have to ask for a new key every time you enter the building. Also, the woman who works front desk on weekends has one of the worst treatments towards guests I've seen on a "good" hotel. Overall, more like a low tier 4 star hotel. Restaurant is good.
