We had a 20 hour layover on our way home to Toronto. A family member was able to book us the last remaining room here and though it was not close to the airport and the Friday rush hour was heavy, it was so worth the effort. What a fabulous, unique place. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The room though small was well appointed and clean. Mattress super comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was the perfect ending to our 20 hours of Lisbon. Can't wait to return to Lisbon and of course this hotel.

This hotel grew on me the longer I stayed here, I was sceptical at first but I now understand its location and the need for such accommodation. This area of Lisbon remains one of my favourite places, there is so much beauty in this old town. One can never get tired of walking these streets and it is close to many of Lisbon’s attractions such as the Praça do Comércio. If you are able try to get the room on the top floors with a balcony facing the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge and the Santuário de Cristo Rei. First things first, if you are coming by car, parking will be an issue, you can off load your bags and then go park your car in the public parking close by. Secondly, there are no elevators in this three story hotel, once you pass this, I guarantee you, you will love this hotel! Staff are amazing, friendly and the rooms are neat, its old feel and shutter windows add to the character and feel of this hotel. If you, like me love Lisbon for its sites and heritage, this hotel is worth a visit!

If you are crashing for the night or two absolute maximum and the price is low it can be ok. Other than that - i would skip. First of all it is located on the tiny street and no Uber will ever come ( we had one Uber cancelling after another). Second the rooms have absolutely no traditional furniture in it, no table or any sorts of place where to put things. You have a bench and a chair. No tv, no cheats of drawers. Mirrors are above doors, but nothing where you can see yourself full size. No view and a small window with some roof in it. Disturbing pictures on the walls. There is no elevator and you may end up on the third floor (and will have to drag your luggage up and down). Third - the hotel is dirty. I walked on the floor in the room for less than a minute and my white sock became all brownish grey. I don’t think anyone ever washed the floor.

Excellent hotel located on a quiet side street near excellent food and shopping. The rooms are beautiful with full sized bathrooms. The breakfast is delicious and the staff are extremely helpful. The third floor rooms have a beautiful view and balconies.

Absolutely gorgeous, tastefully decorated hotel. Owned and run by females. I absolutely adored the space and its management. The space and staff made us feel at home, we will certainly be back and highly recommend it to anyone who is into minimalist, peaceful, Japandi style of architecture. This gem of a place won't disappoint. One thing to note we are compact travellers only traveling with a carry-on each, if you need more space get a bigger room. The location and neighborhood are both remarkable too! What else could one ask for?!

Central location, nice & sufficient breakfast. We loved & enjoyed the simple interior and cosy environment. Huge appreciation for staff. Top service. I regret not telling them the things I was disappointed of, so I'll leave review better than I would like. ---Things to note!! --- 1. This is a guest house. Google info is misleading. 2. Unfortunately we had a big trouble with ants, spotted couple in our personal stuff & bed every night. - Accessibility issues - 3. The hotel door is super difficult to open. There is a high step. Once entered, there are only staircases to rooms & reception (downstairs). 4. The location is in an old city, but the taxis can not go near the entrance. You get to walk downhill (for pickup)/uphill(to hotel) for up to 3-5 minutes. You'll get used to it if the weather is nice.

This place is amazing! It is a beautifully decorated B&B (not a hostel, as described in some reviews), close to everything in the Barrio Alto, and surprisingly affordable. I booked a standard room which turned out to be quite spacious, and the bathroom is enormous! Breakfast is excellent (the owners make delicious eggs upon request). I will definitely stay here again - and would actually prefer it to any luxury accommodation given the amazing customer service. Five stars!

Very nice small hotel in Bairro Alto, good breakfast and nice room. Although it’s close to several bars and restaurants it quiet since it’s located in a side street.

The open plan reception, lounge, bar and kitchen is the highlight of this place. It's a lovely place to chill out and plan your day or enjoy a quick drink. The breakfast is delicious. The staff had so much time for every guest, recommending local places, giving directions and making reservations. Rooms are comfortable with much needed aircon and big bathrooms. I can't wait to go back.

Could not be happier with our stay at Casa Janelas. The staff were incredible and sooo helpful, responsive and kind! The rooms were perfect for our short stay in Lisbon and the breakfast was fresh and delicious! The location was perfect for exploring all that bairro alto has to offer. Chef’s kiss.. would absolutely stay here again / recommend friends and family to stay at Casa Janelas!

A lovely place to stay - great access to fantastic restaurants, bars and to all of the sights and sounds of Lisbon. It was also very easy to access the local transit from the hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful in their recommendations and accommodations. We went to two of the restaurants for tapas that they suggested and both were a huge hit. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

We had a fantastic stay in this hotel. The people working there are really welcoming, friendly and helpful. The common area is so well designed, so beautiful (as interior designers, we enjoyed the place)! This concept with open kitchen was really providing more laid-back atmosphere. Basically, the whole hotel is beautiful. We had a small room on the uppermost floor, and, again, it was also very stylish. Finally, the view from the balcony is the best miradouro we had :) Looking west, so that you can enjoy the sunsets with a view over the city, the 25 de Abril bridge, with airplanes descending - marvelous!

Very friendly staff, great breakfast and a nice place downstairs to hang out. Probably great for a tourist but not great at all for business trips. Rooms quite small and dated. Plus, you can hear everything and everyone outside your room - we had loud neighbours coming in at night and extraordinarily loud music coming from outside one morning.

Disappointed by the sobriety of the room decor (some vintage, slightly broken lamps, a rusty table, and 2 small unremarkable photo frames) and the bad insulation. In fact the window did not close fully in my room (and I had the most expensive category of rooms, a superior double). I caught a cold and came home sick. Compensating by AC heating does not work, although that is what the staff recommended. More importantly, it is not energy efficient at a time of climate concerns and energy savings needs. This hotel will have to deal with this. No view can offset these issues.

We are so confused by the other reviews. We arrived and could not stay. It was more like a hostel than a hotel. Room had a strange smell, there wasn’t even a headboard on the bed. The towels were worn out. The carpets had holes. It was gross. When we went to leave they wouldn’t refund our money. Even worse, we booked through Tablet who was no help in resolving and blocked us from leaving a review so don’t trust tablet!

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel. All the staff were approachable, friendly and helpful and our room was clean, quiet (we were on the top floor) and comfortable, with an amazing view across the city. Set in a quiet street the hotel is only 5/10 minutes walk from cafes and restaurants and 10/15 minutes walk from the Metro. The communal room is a great space in which to relax with a coffee and a piece of delicious orange cake after a busy day and to enjoy the lovely buffet breakfast. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Lisbon.

No complaints, exceeded my expectations and would definitely recommend. First of all it is in an excellent location which is the most important factor for me when on a city break, everything is within walking distance and if not we grabbed a cheap Uber straight from the hotel. Beautiful area with every restaurant and bar you could want. In terms of the hotel itself you get more than what you would expect for the price range, room was perfectly clean, bed was comfy and I liked the decor of the room/hotel. The reception area is beautiful and has a good vibe, we enjoyed having breakfast and drinks there. The room we had was small but this was not a problem for us unlike some of the reviews I see here.

Would love the breakfast to be a little different every other day. If you stay 4 nights like we did, you get tired of the exact same breakfast. The room temperature was high and I was not able to decrease it.

Beautifully designed hotel in a very central but quite street in Lisbon. A stones throw away from the city's best bars and restaurants. Welcoming staff and comfortable rooms. I took my partner for his 30th birthday and this place couldn't disappoint if it tried. We will be back for sure!

Made a mistake booking the wrong date and showed up with no reservation. Staff was super friendly providing free WiFi to book another place they recommended, they cancelled the booking free of charge, and gave a complimentary cappuccino. Great experience !!

Spent 3 nights here and had a great experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast every morning was delicious with a variety of options to choose from. The room was simple yet clean, with a very spacious bathroom and a comfortable bed. At times we could hear voices/footsteps from the rooms next door due to the nature of the older building. This was not a major issue as we did not spend much time in the room. We would 100% stay here again and recommend to others!

Fantastic location in Bairro Alta in quiet street. We loved the decor and staff were really helpful. We had a small double with a great view- (this room is actually very small for a couple). Lots of hills but close to everything. Great breakfast and felt at home.
