Free access museum right in downtown. Beautiful building as it was a bank before. Interior completely marbled and sculptured. Need security screening, metal detector, before entry. Walk they vault door to access free ticket issue. Multimedia and many display on monetary origine, making and use. Clean space and very sparse.

Great museum on the history of money. Covers both the world history and the interesting financial history of Portugal. Modern exhibition with tons of information and exhibited items. Nothing on cryptocuurencies. Yet.

Super cool and interactive museum. As of writing this, the entrance is for free. It's definitely worth stopping by. This museum will show you currencies from all over the world, taking you on a tour of the evolution of currency. They have more interactive aspects than we were expecting, and you will even get to touch a real gold bar! Overall, we highly recommend going here. We unfortunately got there a bit too close to closing time, but we recommend around 1.5 hours to visit the museum

A fun and educational multimedia, hands on museum. It is all very well done. They have a variety of quizzes, touch screens, and mechanical apparatuses that record your progress as you move through the exhibits. You'll learn about the fabrication and controls of money as well as banking from both past and present perspectives. Best of all it is FREE and entirely bilingual in English and Portuguese.

This museum is quite unique. You enter into the museum through a tresor vault door. The visit is free of charge. You receive at the entrance tickets that enable interactive activities. You can inspect coins and notes from many countries and ages. The museum explains through interactive displays what important roles banks in Portugal and in the EU play. Don't miss the historic wall of Lisbon in the basement. The bartering robot in the entrance hall looks a bit creepy but entertained my daughter for quite some time.

This free museum was pretty fun, with a lot of interesting and clever interactive exhibits in multiple languages for kids and adults. A few exhibits were broken but most worked fine. Plan to spend an hour or two here and be aware that you and your bags will be scanned at the entry point, because the place is literally full of money on display. Get your free ticket at the ground floor gift shop on the right as you get in, you’ll need it to run each interactive exhibit in your own language (the barcode goes in each one). Don’t miss lifting the gold bar in the vault in the gift shop, it’s way heavy.

The Money Museum is an educational, engaging attraction in Lisbon. You’ll find multi-lingual exhibits that tell of money’s history in its various forms across the world and also Portugal’s unique role. It’s a relatively smaller museum, so you can spend an hour and get you fill. Appropriate for young to old, especially nice in case a storm passes through and you’re looking for an easy indoor activity. Free entry, open Wednesday to Sunday 10a-6p. If this was helpful smash the like :-) Enjoy Lisbon !

I never would have thought I would be so interested in learning about money but I'm glad I took the time to visit this place. Free from Wednesday afternoons to Sunday. It's not so much a museum as an educational and interactive place where you'll learn about the history of money, to the present time Euro. There are some great artifacts displayed in a very modern way. Walk through the opening of a giant vault. Touch the gold bar inside the vault. Don't miss the chance to see the archeological dig of the first wall around Lisbon. A hidden gem!

Very informative museum with a ton of information about everything to do with money. Can see coins and notes from everywhere, throughout time, how they are made and much more. And it's free! Definitely ecommended.

Free entry Wednesday to Sunday. Make sure you get a ticket from the desk after you go through the vault. The museum features a lot of interactive displays but you won't be able to do them without the ticket. It's vaguely interesting but a lot of the displays are a trifle dry, even with interactive nature of them. The best parts were the gold bar at the beginning, the sample money from around the world and the big screen with the cameras and coins. Note that your bag will be x-rayed upon entry.

Very interesting and interactive museum. It's free so it's totally worth it if you have extra time. Not recommended if you want to go fast at your own pace. The entrance to each section is restricted to certain amount of people so you have to wait until the staff indicates that you can proceed. (Which is a good measure in Covid times and also in general but it definitely makes the visit slower).

(Translated by Google) The Money Museum, owned by Banco de Portugal, occupies the space of the former Church. de S. The content of the Museum has been well selected from the Bank's collections and is very well presented with a didactic perspective to highlight. Money museum. A must stop in Lisbon. The building itself is quite nice. They have a lot of coins and notes from around the world and all the times. Moreover, you can touch the gold ingot. This museum is FREE.

An interesting, interactive and even free museum. Be sure to take a ticket after entering the museum, you can use it to participate in various interesting expositions of the museum. My 11-year-old son liked it very much, we went twice. Start from the bottom (-1) floor... I recommend you to visit.

The Museum has a lot to offer not only on money, but on the Portuguese history since 1294. The Portuguese empire’s relationship with other nations, it's conquest, trade presence in India, Africa, Asia, etc. It's various coins from the 13th century (showcasing Roman coins and other coins from various parts of the world), developments of promissory notes as a necessity to the response of economic depressions. The influence of kings and queens to the evolving state of finance and above all, you can find the old noted of almost every country from around the world. You can see the processes of making money, the ways money was kept and its authenticity. It is an experience to be lived. There are games on financial queries, testing of knowledge of the museum, financial responsibilities and the life cycle of money. You can almost tell the history of life and rebirth after the earthquakes, the struggles of past ages and it is just knowledge packed for thiose who really love history. I absolutely loved being at the museum and I bet you too would. No matter the reviews, it is most lovable when you go to experience the history seated in the museum and it is for free.

In the Money Museum you can learn about the history of money, its development, the economic laws, the production of money and counterfeits [you may own one of them!?]. Time spent: 60 minutes Price [in my case]: free (why does the Money Museum need money? :-) Attention: at the entrance you will be checked (just like at the airport). It is recommended to leave items such as multi-tool, knife, screwdriver, etc. somewhere outside.

It’s a strange place. The security is bizarre, as if you’re entering a vault full of gold. The exhibitions are fine. It would probably be of more interest to Portuguese people but we still enjoyed it. And it’s free!

A really nice museum focusing on the history of money. The coins exhibit is one of the best for Lisbon. The best part is the archeological exhibit on the lower floor which you can see the old wall from the reign of King Dinis. It’s free and a nice place to chill out. Some interactive display for kids as well.

Very interesting museum, the building is absolutely impressive, very interesting insights to history of money, production and circuit. Great experience, free admission and definitely worth visiting. Only negative aspect: a part of the exhibition (the interactive one) was accessible only with a ticket no-one told us about. So we couldn't use it.

Free entry, why not? Pick up your ticket at the reception desk to utilise the interactive displays. Admittedly, they didn’t hold my interest very much, but I think children might enjoy them. My favourite part was the exhibit of old currencies from different countries. I also liked learning about the production of money. Overall, it was a nice stop for us and a good way to spend some extra time we had.

This place is quite cool albeit a little confusing. Let me begin by saying it’s Free!, can’t beat that, but upon entering the main atrium, after a thorough security screening (the place is teeming with security) it gets confusing. I ended doing the tour without ever checking in and receiving a ticket. You really only need the ticket to utilize some of the interactive displays. I have to say I learned quite a lot about the history of coinage and paper currencies. Because it’s free and I went on a Sunday afternoon, some of the displays were hard to access due to the crowds. Most of the information is printed rather small and you really need to get up close and personal to read it.

I was trying to take a shortcut to my hotel when I came upon this hidden gem. I had never heard of the Money Museum before and decided to go in since it was free. I was a little taken aback by the security at the entrance until I realized it actually was a real bank plus a Museum. I walked through it pretty quickly because I needed to get to my city tour starting point. In addition to the exhibits about money and currency over the ages were interactive exhibits for kids. I tried a few of them myself. My favorite was tge virtual wishing well. I threw in 4 coins. I recommend this if you are in the area. It's very interesting and you can see it I'm about an hour. To be honest I didn't see any "no photos" signs but thought it best not to take a bunch. Couldn't resist taking a least one picture though. I'm going back in a couple days when I have more time to look.

In my humble opinion (as a person working in museums for 10 years), this is a world-class innovative, groundbreaking presentation, thoroughly well planned and executed - definitely sets the bar at the next level for how we can experience and learn new information. Give yourself some extra time to read all their content if you can. At the very least, take some time to absorb the room with paper money from around the world, a really interesting display of national identities all in one place. World class!! Maybe you'll hire me one day! Please make more souvenirs in the shop available!

One of the best free entrance museums I've ever been to. Very interesting, I discovered many things I didn't know before (how money is made) and could appreciate how society evolved. There were some nice interactive spots as well. I recommend you to go for a tour if you have some spare time

Absolutely excellent, free on top of it all. It is on many floors (there are lifts), spread out very well with lots of interactive things to do. The whole experience is packed with lots of information, quizzes and other things, very enjoyable, would be great for kids but as an adult couple we really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend it for anyone, very accessible and suitable for all ages.

Considering that entry is free, this museum is worth a visit.

I usually love museums. I found this one boring. It has moments, like the video on the fortifications of Lisbon, which is interesting, but... there is no apparent beginning point, and you stumble across exhibits of glass covered tiny coins. You go through a security checkpoint I found a bit excessive. Go if you really love seeing old coins

There was a lack of a fixed chart with the evolution of the monetary devaluation of the escudo / euro that would allow a comparison with the price of gold, and with the prices of the main world currencies, namely the dollar, the Swiss Franc, and the Pound, against the Euro, and the German mark, the French franc, Spanish peseta against the coat of arms, at least since the beginning of the 20th century. This most recent historical perspective is lacking.

(Translated by Google) Quite interesting. Follow the history of money from ancient times to the present. It presents us with interactive exhibitions that are also very enlightening. (Original) Bastante interessante. Acompanha a história do dinheiro desde tempos remotos até à atualidade. Apresenta-nos exposições interativas que são bastante elucidativas também.

👍👍 Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. En...
