We stayed one evening in November for a special occasion at the start of our trip and I wish we had stayed longer! It was an absolute joy, the location was just stunning and the hotel itself is so beautifully authentic. It is directly opposite the Castelo de São Jorge which has amazing views over Lisbon and is also a stone's throw from the Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Miradouro das Portas do Sol where you can enjoy an incredible sunrise if you are an early bird like we were! Our room was wonderful, spacious and very comfortable, and when we arrived the hotel staff brought us a bottle of champagne which was such a lovely generous gesture. The reception areas are fantastic, especially breakfast which is served until 12pm (!) and had possibly the best buffet options we've ever had, and they were so accommodating for my partner who is vegan. We stayed in November and were so fortunate with the weather and absolutely loved sitting outside in the gorgeous courtyard in the sun after breakfast with our coffees and pastéis de natas! I really cannot recommend this beautiful hotel highly enough, the staff could not have been friendlier or more welcoming and we enjoyed every second of our stay there. We would return in a heartbeat, thank you Solar do Castelo for a such a perfect and unforgettable stay!

A beautiful boutique B&B Hotel, uniquely nestled within the compound of an old castle complex. The service, rooms, and breakfast were all first class and presented with a friendly and welcoming smile. Whilst trekking back up the hill to get to the hotel should not be taken lightly, particularly if trying to do so late at night after a few glasses of port, would not pass up the opportunity to stay in this unique setting.

Solar do Castelo is more of an inn than a hotel. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated and restored. It is not a full-service hotel - only 20 rooms. Our room was small and quite cramped but others are larger and nicer. The breakfast is basic but wholesome and good quality. The hotel is quite expensive for what it is. Well-located, however. Note that taxis and Ubers have to pick you up about ten minutes' walk from the hotel.

Truly a unique experience! The service is great (definitely get the pickup service to the hotel from the airport, it was so nice to have that waiting for us!) and everyone was so friendly. We loved having breakfast on the patio each day amongst the peacocks who truly are like your roommates. The room was very comfortable. You can’t beat the location tho def be prepared to walk up hill to get back to your hotel, but you are basically staying the castle which is a once in a life time experience.

We stayed for two nights during our honeymoon and were very happy here! The location is just perfect- there is only one wall separating you from the castle. The service was wonderful - the recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were spot on and the welcome was very friendly. The rooms are cosy and the general atmosphere of the hotel is homely. There are a lot of interesting historical findings to be made- such as the hotel museum and the history of the premises.

This is a lovely hotel, full of character, well located and with friendly staff. It's up a steep slope with cobbled streets but other than that, easy to get to the centre and transport. Complimentary tea, coffee and cakes during the day is a nice touch and all the staff do their best to help. We were celebrating a special occasion and the hotel gave us complimentary port in our room which was nice. Breakfast is a good selection but it might be worth changing some things daily for variety. I would definitely recommend the hotel if staying in Lisbon

Just finished a lovely stay at Solar do Castelo. It’s was such a wonderful place to retreat after a long day wandering about the city. Staff are attentive and friendly. In fact all the service felt personalised and they were always ready to help us sort things when needed. The public spaces were beautiful and relaxing with lovely quiet courtyards to sit and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with cake or wine and nicely apportioned rooms to put our feet up. The location is superb with lovely dining nearby and is nice a quiet. I would gladly stay again.

Interesting and friendly boutique hotel, located in Old Town/Castle. Advise you catch bus, transfer or taxi. Because with suitcases, it's a long walk uphill

We just had a truly lovely pair of stays at Solar do Castelo on successive weekends. The accommodations are beautiful and comfortable, it is easy to walk all over the Alfama district (although be warned that it is pretty hilly), and above all the staff are extremely kind and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and at home! We particularly enjoyed the little touches like the complimentary Port in the rooms and the tiny museum in the basement (actually in the old castle cistern), which gives a fascinating account of the history of the castle as well as showcases a number of artifacts found during construction of the hotel, and is well worth a visit. Overall, can't say enough good things about it, and we can't wait to return someday!

Beautiful place with excellent location right next to the castle. Breakfast was wonderful and enjoyed the courtyard in the mornings. We were picked up from Lisbon airport and did not have to rent a car. Lisbon was very walkable and love to return to this hotel. Highly recommend staying here.

Tl;dr: Beware of bedbugs I really wanted to love this hotel - the location was cool, the place itself was beautiful and unique, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. However, the afternoon after our first night I started breaking out in huge welts, and when we checked the room we found a pretty significant bedbug infestation under the mattress (I'll spare you the photos). We informed the staff who immediately offered to book us into another hotel and wash our clothes, which we took them up on. I know bedbugs can be an inevitability of traveling, but I was really disappointed as this was supposed to be our nice, "splurge" hotel of the trip, and I spent the remainder of my vacation covered in giant itchy welts, buying antihistamines and waiting around for all our clothes to be washed. Not what I expected paying $300+ a night. If you do stay here, I highly recommend checking the mattress and any other fabric in the room THOROUGHLY. We found signs of them in the curtains and the fabric chair as well.

A lovely hotel, with a splendid breakfast and day long coffee, tea and pastries. Comfortable bed, good towels and bathroom, and generous number of power points for electrical items . Great location with close bus service into the city centre.

We had a wonderful 4 day stay at the Solar do Castelo Inn, an absolutely charming hotel in the historic Alfama are of Lisbon. We booked this hotel because of the many reviews that mentioned the positive aspect of the hotel. I read a few negative aspects and thought I would address them here from our perspective. Hope this is helpful! 1) The hotel is up a very steep and winding hill. If you have any issues with walking up steep cobblestone paths, this is not for you. Get a bus / tram / metra pass; it will serve you well getting around Lisbon but it will be essential because the #737 bus takes you almost all the way up to the hotel, except for the last few hundred meters. Also, some have mentioned that cabs do not take you "all the way to the hotel". This was not our experience. We took several late night cabs and the drivers were happy to deliver us right to the front door. 2) We had what some have described as a "basement" room. (Room #4) It's not really in the basement as much as it is the outer wall of the hotel built into the side of the road. We found this room to be VERY quiet, cool and comfortable in the 100 degree heat. The room was very clean and spacious. 3) Peacocks squawk. That's what they do. We found it charming and they were not noisy at night. 4) It is true that there are no restaurants or bars directly near the hotel. For some this may be a negative but for us it was blissful to sit in the courtyard in the evening and enjoy the cool breeze and quiet. We did choose to breakfast at the hotel (which is fantastic) and the hotel also has complementary light snacks, fruit, coffee, etc available throughout the day. They also have a reasonably priced honor bar if you want a cocktail, or beer or wine. And while there are no restaurants directly near the hotel, there are many really incredible choices "down the hill" in Alfama. All in all this is a really charming, quiet, clean, historic hotel with great service and wonderful breakfast, snacks and a well stocked honor bar. 5 Stars!

I called the tact through reception two times. The first time, the receptionist did not tell us that the car arrived and I paid 5€ for the wait. The second time the taxi driver charged twice the Uber price and then became aggressive and refused to show his license. Question for the owner of the hotel: is your staff working with the “friendly” taxi drivers?? Do they get anything in return ??

What a beautiful place to stay while visiting this wonderful city! The hotel is located on a hill near Castelo Sao Jorge. It's housed in a nicely restored old structure. The apartments are quaint and comfy, and the courtyard is a lovely spot to unwind and watch the peacocks. The breakfast is excellent. The staff was extremely helpful! They took care of everything for us. We will surely return! The prices was pretty consistent over €275 a night on all booking sites but was able to find it the cheapest on Locktrip for €189 a night, if you do this little trick and add this code 0S4FS before login you get it even cheaper, enjoy👍

My friend and I stayed 2 WONDERFUL nights at Solar de Castelo. The property felt more like a private B&B than a hotel. It was intimate, but the staff was always on site and more than willing to help. Our room had the highest ceilings and was comfortable from the beds to the bath to the AC. The breakfast was just what we needed, and we also liked the library corner where we could borrow books to read in the courtyard. But the best part about the property is its location! Sure, you may have to hike up a hill or two to get back to your room at night, but the views make it 100% worth it!

Awesome hotel right next to a historic landmark! This place is great. The peacocks that come and visit throughout the day are gorgeous. The rooms are clean and the staff is exceptionally friendly. Definitely recommend this as a place to stay in Lisbon.

Beautiful spot in Lisbon, great staff and rooms are very nice... large per European standards. Plenty to do within walking distance and transportation in Lisbon is a breeze

Fabulous oasis of calm at the pinnacle of Lisbon, practically part of the castle. Rooms and garden are beautiful and the winding streets around here are amazing. Loved it.

Great small hotel, was the kitchen for the castle. Very helpful staff. The road up to the hotel is quite an adventure in a car, best left to the local drivers. At best only inches on either side of the car, and if a busy time pedestrians all over. Nice breakfast daily.
