One of the oldest cafe in Lisbon, founded in 1905. You can choose from huge variety of sweets, bakery and pastry right at the showcase, and they all are fresh. Interior is amazing - feels like you got into antique library. Minimum bill would be around 15€

Very nice place to see!!! But the coffee and the pasteis de Nata were poor & expensive. The service is bad: we were lucky and there were no customers to wait in the line and there was available table for us to have a seat. Even though, we had a seat, the supervisor got us to stand up & go outside the cafe waiting in the line for a minute or so until welcoming us back in the cafe and driving us to a different available table and not the preferred one we had a seat initially. Disappointing!!!

I'm not sure what's more welcoming - the staff shouting at each other or the staff ignoring us when we tried to order... Or maybe it was the waiter with his hands in his pants. Good coffee and a decent custard tart but it was an unpleasant experience.

One of the most popular Cafe in Lisboa. Very old and nice. has good coffee, hot chocolate and of course the coveted sweets of Portugal! A nice cafe in a very good spot, you can go on foot (not far from the center) or you can take tram 28 (it has a stop nearby).

I think it's the most beautiful bakery / cafe / confectionery I've ever seen. Just about it is worth coming and experiencing the place. On the taste there is room for improvement. Located in the busiest area in central Lisbon. Great atmosphere of the city center.

Wonderful experience to have a table outside to soak up the atmosphere of Lisbon. Beautiful coffee and pastries with excellent service to turn over the guests in this very busy cafe. A must do on your stroll through the streets.

The "a Brasileira" is probably the most famous bar in Lisbona and offers an outside and inside area. The inside space is outstanding and takes you back to the old times. However, the bar offers only a limited choice of pastries but different types of breakfast. We had espresso and two different kinds of pastry, which both were good but not outstanding. Since this bar is very touristy and gets named in each guide, one needs patience to get a table inside. I noted that even if some tables were available, we had to wait for a long time to get seated. Further, the staff had the typical attitude of tourist restaurants: they were little friendly nor courteous. Additionally, they withdrew our cups and plates right after we had finished. This means that we have to pay and leave. To point out, this behavior is not typical for Portugal. To sum up, our stay could have been more enjoyable if the staff had been more courteous and attentive like the other bars or restaurants in Lisbona. Like any of my reviews, of course, this review is related to the type of restaurant, the restaurant's gastronomic objective, the overall gastronomic quality of the respective city, and the general context and needs to get compared to similar types of restaurants.

This old cafe has a lot of history. The restaurant is well decorated with lots of mirrors which makes the place look bigger. My wife and I had the set menu, and it was delicious. The service was good, and in general, what you can expect from a casual street side cafe. But the atmosphere is also casual and has a good energy. It does get pretty crowded, and you might need to share a table with strangers.

A Brasileira is not just a coffee shop; it's a slice of Lisbon's history. With its rich ambiance and classic charm, it offers a welcoming retreat in the heart of the city. Whether you're there for a quick caffeine fix or to linger over a leisurely breakfast, the quality never wavers. The coffee is robust and aromatic, a perfect pick-me-up at any time of the day, and their pastries are the ideal companions to the beverages. It's a place where the hustle of Chiado seems to pause, allowing for a moment of pure enjoyment. A Brasileira is a must for any Lisbon itinerary.

Historic venue in the heart of Lisbon. Fantastic for breakfast and trying typical sweets. Quite expensive but justified as it's a point of interest. Service could be improved.

The waitress was very friendly to approach us to inquire our wish for an indoor or outdoor seats, and since we are only here to drink a cup of coffee and have a pastel de nata, we chose to sit outside under the shade. We were standing in the wait line about less than 10 minutes, and the tables outside were ready. We chose a table in front of the entrance door, and the food was served very quickly. The latte that costs Euro 3.9 is very light because they serve it with more milk proportion. I ordered a non-alcoholic beer (cost Euro 4), and it tasted just like beer. The sun in the afternoon is still very hot, hence if you wish to eat here, it’s better to wait for the indoor table.

The place is nice because you can take beautiful pictures. That’s it. The food is average. The prices are high compared to other places nearby. And the stuff is not really friendly - even if you are fluent in Portuguese. I wouldn’t recommend it. Take your pictures there and have your Pastell at another place. A tourist-trap.

New owners, the ones who own the scam sardines cans of "mundo fantastico da sardinha portuguesa." So from summer 2020, the coffee who was before 0,70 cents is now 2 €. I advise tourists to boycott this historical place turned now into cash machine. If you want to support local businesses, Better to drink a coffee roasted in Lisbon (ex : cafe negrita, etc..)

A great coffee place in Barrio Alto. Excellent food and drinks. We ordered the soup of the day which was carrot soup and a smoked salmon sandwhich with hot drinks. It was delicious. Atmosphere was great as well as the place is very popular. The service was friendly and efficient.

The host at the door was very welcoming as I was wavering between whether I wanted to queue to get in. Coffee + food were served quickly and tasted good, which I really wasn’t expecting. Beautifully decorated historical café with a pretty big menu. Would recommend for breakfast or lunch if you have the time while visiting Lisbon.

Doesn’t worth it. We had to wait in the line to get a table, the stuff was not pleasant at all and the main waiter was actually rude to his colleagues and not polite to the customers. What we drank was not special at all. They only sell the concept of the oldest cafe but you can just go there make photos and go. You don’t have to wait, sit there and pay double than any other cafe in Lisbon!

We stopped for a beer and to take a rest before continuing up the big hill. We ended up having some fries and several beers. The staff was very busy with people coming and going. They were able to quickly get us served. The beer was nice and cold and the fries were nicely cooked. The also brought us some nuts which was a nice bonus.

The granddaddy of Lisbon coffee experiences. Okay the coffee is good, but like all Portuguese coffee (or “Bica”), it’s a bit bitter without some sugar. But the atmosphere is wonderful. It’s like being back in a 1920’s Chicago speakeasy. The decorative walls are great and the service was…decent. Bathrooms downstairs are super clean.

Beautiful shop with an excellent choice of food. Their pastel de nata are excellent and the seating area is lovely. You can sit outside in the street and watch people go by or see the buskers playing music or sing nearby. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable.

Espero repetir. Saludos.

📍located centrally, on one of the main streets 🖼interesting interior, a lot to examine with your eyes while enjoying your coffee or meal 🤵service was good, but the host could be more friendly ☕️🧁quite big selection of desserts, pavlova tasted amazing 💶Wouldn't call it budget friendly, more like average price for Lisboa

Nice coffee shop, but overpriced compared to other local places in the area. I like the atmosphere of the cafe, but it’s a small space and you have to wait a bit if a cue to get a seat. Servers are extremely busy.

The bar is a beautiful tourist spot, unfortunately! We had beers and espresso and were glad to sit inside and escape the heat for a but! The service is alright, not unfriendly, but probably not delighted by tourists, which I can't blame them for. Still, we are glad to have been there! The pastry looked delicious, but we didn't try it.

A very special coffee shop plus. The decor is worth the visit. The place is not large and you may wait for a table but it’s worth it. Had a perfect cappuccino and traditional custard pastry, while my partner had the best soup and coffee in Lisbon. Definitely worth the visit.

Amazing history and atmosphere! The coffee is good, but I’m an espresso drinker so I doubt it’s to everyone’s palette. The staff are lovely (especially if you follow direction and wait your turn!!) We had the set menu and we couldn’t be bothered thinking, it was a mistake. Top layer was delicious fresh fruit & dry Madeira cake. Next layer was processed or perhaps pressed ham (we’ve just come from Spain so our standards are now very high lol) flavourless processed cheese, packet smoked salmon which was fine with some limp lettuce. Bottom layer different breads. You could certainly spend more buying all the items individually. The weather was in our favour and we sat outside, don’t regret the spend, just choose food wisely! Edit: I’ve now been in Portugal a week and cheese here is tasteless and bland, the ham usually pressed and salami terrible. So the overall 3 stars will remain, but I’ve increased the food score overall, clearly those foods are how they are here!! So if you’re French, Spanish or even have a love of food, don’t order these items in restaurants here lol

This is one of the most iconic cafe's in Lisbon, with an amazing history and famous historical personalities that, at some point in time (since 1905), came here for the coffee and for the ambiance. Having said that, it is extremely tourist oriented, with very high prices for the locals. And the customer service is not at the same level as the prices... If you know what I mean.

Coffee and pastries were special. But the place was very crowded and hard to find a table to sit but after a while we managed to find one. Beautiful interior, not very clean, terrible service, unorganised, unfriendly staff, a bit pricey.

Only got 1 star because it is not possible to give none. The building is beautiful, but unfortunately full of careless and unskilled workers. The waiters are so unhappy and miserable with their work that is difficult to understand if it is lack of training or working atmosphere. A PLACE TO AVOID in the beautiful Lisbon!!!

Hallucinating experience, we order two coffees at the counter, pay the € 2 marked on the receipt and go out. After a while a waitress chases us in the middle of the street asking us another 2 €. Embarrassed, I give them to him and ask the owner for an explanation, he confirms that the price of a coffee at the counter is € 2, the same if taken seated. Obviously it's a scam, don't fall for it, take your photo with Pessoa and go elsewhere.

As a regular costumer for many years, I realized the management changed not long ago. While a coffee costed 75 cents, now is 2 euro. If you are interested in a local historic place with locals, just forget it. Is for tourists only. Before you spend this amount of money, 2.90 on a cake, remember, you are in Portugal. Portugal has very cheap a good coffee and very good and cheap cakes, even in the area.

I agree with the locals here. The inside was fantastic and the outside amazing with the lights. But I think it is very expensive if you compare with prices in Portugal. 4.50 for just a pastry seems a little bit excessive. Especially if you have been to the best bakery of Lisbon, in Belém. A place for tourists only.

(Translated by Google) The good times of Café A Brasileira are over. Today this establishment believes to have become "Le Flore" in Paris, in the extreme quality of this one. The hot chocolate is cut with water for 4.50 €! The coffee is ... too expensive, and the service always so distant (even derogatory) towards the customers. Nothing justifies stopping in this establishment I did this after living in Lisbon for a long time. Sadness then. Brasileira is one of the most beautiful Lisbon "café" . Also a tea house and an excellent patisserie, the only problem is the excessive price, being so touristic. You can get a better and cheaper coffee elsewhere but not with the style of Brasileira.

A lovely cafe full of history. I came because it was Fernando Pessoa's favorite coffee shop and ended up discovering that it also served as a safe haven for people prosecuted during the dictatorship. Great pastries and excellent coffee.

Just watch it and enjoy the architechture because the food and coffee is really not worth it. Totally Overpriced for the cheap quality they serve. Watery cappuccino, average espresso and really basic food quality. Using the history of the space for a reason to set that price for tourists is simply not fair.

This place is a must for two reasons: it's a cultural and historican place, but also for it's delicious pastries. If you like to try local things you would enjoy mazagrande unless you are Italian who would never appreciate it :-))) It's a cold coffee with ice, lemon, menta & rum. And here it is very gentle.

Beautiful, original interior from the early XX century, it's awesome that they still have the historical cups preserved. Service was okay. Pastries were good, but we've had better ones not so far from that place and also cheaper. Coffee was also okay, nothing fancy.

Coffee is really good and the food is decent, but this place is all about the beautiful interim and the history that all of Portugal’s great literally artists came to produce their art and discuss their ideas. The waiters showed a great passion to this fact as well.

A coffee place for tourists. Coffee tastes like McDonald’s. But triple coffee price than normal shop. Tart is no good. Walking toward west for like 200m you will find a much better one called Manteigaria. Service can be improved.
