Interesting museum where you can see the dresses starting from 1700 up to now. The building itself it beautiful, since the museum is located in an old castle. Additionally, the walk in the park is spectacular, such a great escape from the city. It is reachable by 736 bus from Cais do Sodré. Really worth a visit just even for a walk in the park

This is three-in-one sort of museum: The Traje Museum; it is a museum with pieces from the XVIII century Portuguese fashion until the first decade of the XXI. The building itself is worth the visit. The Theater Museum; it has pieces of clothing used on the Portuguese theaters, copies of plays, theater models and some other interesting items related with the backstage. The Classic Dance Museum; it is a small museum with items and pictures related the classic dance. It is quite small, but still interesting. Finally there is a great garden connecting the museums on itself worth the visit. (All free to visit on the first Sunday of the month)

The gem here is the garden. So much beautiful green space with ponds, waterfalls and fountains to explore. I paid €6 for the Museum, gardens plus the museum of theater. They need more clothing on display. The cafe is closed for repairs.

Loved the museum, it was very interesting to see very old pieces that back in the day were “alive”. Beautiful dresses and suits that maybe were worn for wedding, dance event or just for a normal casual day of somebody’s life 100-300 years ago. And the museum is located in a beautiful palace which gives it a special vibe. Will definitely come back, especially for a walk in that beautiful park 😍

So many clothes from different eras. Everything was well preserved and looked like some of the outfits could still be worn today. Free on Sundays for residents. Be sure to check out the gardens when you go.

Only 7-8minutes walking from Lumiar Metro station, located in an elegent palace, you can find this charming museum. No charge for people living in Portugal, all explanations are in Portuguese but definitely help me improved a lot on my Portuguese vocabularies of textiles and difference colors: seda, renda, tule, tafetá e carmim, mostarda, castanho esverdeado, lilás.......

A true hidden gem! I was the only one in the museum so got a fantastic tour around all the costumes by one of the members of staff which was brilliant! The gardens are huge and lovely to wander around. It's quite far from the centre of Lisbon so super quiet- great to get away from the crowds!

(Translated by Google) We arrived at 5:15 p.m. and they told us, quite rough, that they no longer allowed visitors, but then I went on the website and it said that it closed at 6:00 p.m. and it was recommended to enter before 5:30 p.m. I think it was empty and they just didn't feel like having to come in to watch us. A bit ugly considering that the museum is far from everything and we had only gone there to see it.

It has a collection of more than 33,000 items, which includes mainly masculine and feminine costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries. An enjoyable display of history and culture.

Despite the small size of the mansion, the collection and the set-up is relevant for the Portuguese history. The texts are quite concise. Good mix with the botanical garden.

Interesting exhibition showing the evolution of costumes from the 18c to the 20c (this last period is when it is less interesting, and modern fashions are better represented elsewhere). The museum is housed in a beautiful 18c post-earthquake Palace, the Angeja-Palmela Palace. This, together with the Paço do Lumiar (Theater and Dance Museum) and the Monteiro-mor Park form a typical recreational palatial unit that the nobility used as a retreat from the city. The evolution of the style of the costumes becomes more poignant as it contrasts with the architecture of the palace, making it a very coherent experience. The palace building is also worth the visit, specially its chapel which we can see from the upper balcony. Doesn't get crowded.

Incredible exhibition of clothing thru centuries in the traditional Portuguese interiors (azulejos!). All items have been carefully renovated, with super attention to details. Most pieces have rich colors, beautiful embroidery, laces and buttons are amazing. There are about 10 rooms, ao the visit might take 1-1,5hrs. As the museum is situated rather far from the center, I took uber (about 10eur). Entrance is free with Lisboa Card, in Jan park and gardens are green but not that spectacular.

The museum is surrounded by a lovely garden that you should definitely take some time to explore. I have to be honest and be truthful: there are a couple of interesting pieces in the museum, but the whole exhibition is monotonous because everything is exactly the same from room to room: costumes and description. If you are able to scan your QR code, you will be have a bit more fun with some videos and facts, but honestly, it would be nice if management could add a couple of different bit and pieces to cut the monotony

One of the best costume museums. The fact that the building is historic itself really adds to the ambiance of the exhibits. Also since it a bit further from the center of the city it was less crowded than other points of interest.

Pleasant visit. It is well organized but it seemed short on clothing coverage. If combined with the garden and the theatre museum, it can be worth the trip. 15 to 25 minutes sufficed for us, at each venue. Slow travel there if you are using public transit.

A little of the beaten path as far as museums in Lisbon go but well worth the visit for any fashion or textile arts aficionados. You will have the opportunity to views extant garments from the 1700s and beyond. Many of the garments are not behind glass and allow you to view both front and back views. What an inspiration! Be sure to visit the nearby Muse of Theatre and Dance and get lost in the garden!

A sweet little museum that has a great breadth of traditional Portuguese clothing kept in surprisingly high quality mint condition! Many of the pieces are not behind glass, so it was wonderful to get up close and see the meticulously well kept pleats and hand stitched embroidery work. It was fascinating to watch the short video on how they cleaned and kept the pieces. Any lover of fashion or embroidery should visit!

Maria Luisa de Sousa Dantas Baracho I ask you to make the following corrections: the said Lady was, in fact, the sister of General Sebastião de Sousa Dantas Baracho, and also José Maria Dantas Baracho and Maria Helena de Sousa Dantas Baracho, sons of D. Maria Francisca was, in turn, the daughter of State Councilor Admiral José Maria Dantas Pereira and his wife, D. Maria Eugénia da Cunha Pessoa. A great museum held on a historical palace. The building itself dates back to 18 century so being in the area around the palace with gardens and the main building of the palace is a great experience. When you enter you can choose to go right to start from modern costume trends to old ones, which I don’t recommend. Or to go left and start from costumes people used to wear since the early 18th century to take the journey to the 20 century. Each room provides you with a brochure of descriptions in English or French and the Portuguese version is written on the wall. The shop in the museum is also very nice and you can find many objects as souvenirs of your visit and if you buy an item, they offer a free postcard.

A hidden gem in Lisbon - beautiful historical costumes spanning the 17th to 21st centuries arranged chronologically in an equally lovely palace. We had the museum nearly to ourselves and received a private tour from Paulo, who was incredibly knowledgeable about Portuguese, French, English, and American fashion and beauty movements and the politics surrounding them. The palace gardens are also a treat and you could easily spend hours getting lost on the wandering paths, or enjoy a quiet rest by one of the small ponds or fountains.
