Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. Enjoy the panorama!

I would have loved to see the courtyard. There was a long line. I marveled from outside. There was a man playing live music. It's a lovely place to visit.

Amazing that this history still survives after all these years. I wish I had known it is UNESCO World Heritage Site because I did not go in and would have had I known beforehand. This was one of two places in Portugal with that designation and neither are marked on the outside.

The tower you can visit but they only allow so many people per day, it is recommended to buy tickets ahead of time. This was used to see boats approaching the city. It has so many details carved on its walls. Beautiful piece of architecture and history. Not too far is a military museum and a green park with some trees.

This is a must see as one of the most iconic areas in Lisbon, Portugal. The walk along the coast is beautiful, and while it is often windy, the photo opportunities are phenomenal. The tower itself is majestic and powerful, with a small sandy beach area right at the base that has access to the water. The park areas around are perfect for picnics and relaxation as well.

Great place for an exciting walk. The tower is impressive with its grandeur and architectural beauty. This historic place can be admired for a long time, especially at dawn and sunset. The waterfront is big enough to walk around, though there are plenty of tourists. I recommend visiting, admiring and just taking a walk with family or friends, a confident walk along the waterfront will give you a great mood and pleasant memories.

A pretty place that you can spend an evening around. The tower gardens are nice with access to food and drinks. You'll need to get tickets to access the tower (6 euros per person), which is recommended to get inside and see the tower in it's glory while also getting good views of the sea. The tower itself has 4 floors with a narrow winding staircase.

I had the pleasure of visiting the park near Belém Tower during this weekend, and it was truly a delightful experience. The park's proximity to this iconic historical landmark makes it a must-visit for anyone exploring the city. The lush greenery and well-maintained gardens create a serene atmosphere that provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I spent a leisurely afternoon strolling along the winding paths, enjoying the beautiful views of the Tagus River, and admiring the impressive architecture of Belém Tower from different angles. The park offers a perfect blend of history and nature, with plenty of benches and picnic areas for visitors to relax and soak in the surroundings. It's also an excellent spot for taking photographs, capturing both the tower and the park's natural beauty. I was particularly impressed by the cleanliness and upkeep of the park, which is a testament to the care taken by the authorities. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful spot to unwind, the park near Belém Tower is a must-visit destination in Lisbon. I highly recommend it to anyone exploring this charming city.

Really liked this place although we didn't go inside as it was after business hours. Really cool and chill surrounding. Lots of restaurants nearby, lots of cool spots for photos, there's a marina, street musicians playing beautiful music. Absolutely amazing

Included in the Lisbon card, this is a great historical site to visit. Sometimes there may be a wait time but the line moves fast. You need to get your Lisbon card validated at the kiosk a little before the entry point. Beautiful views and rooms to see - they are empty but you get an idea what they were being used for several 100 years ago. There are restrooms little further up, clean but paid 50cents per person.

Is possible the best monument to visit in Lisbon. There is always a long waiting time, I personally experienced 1 hour waiting to enter, as only a reduced number if people are allowed to enter at the same time. It is free with the Lisbon Card, however a ticket to be collected by presenting the Lisbon Card before entering. The tower is on 3 floor and the access can be problematic to the top floors for those with mobility issues. The view it is absolutely stunning

This is a beautiful park and tower full of history! You can bring your towel and lay down on the grass with your family and friends. There’s some snacks options around and you can enjoy the river with the view of this amazing tower.

One of the world’s most iconic sites and certainly one of Portugals unmissable destinations. You have to visit here and meander through the building. I love historical places and this one is right up there. Photos convey the history

Get tickets in advance for opening time if possible otherwise doesn't matter what time you get your ticket for, you will be waiting in line in sun to get in. We bought tickets for 1330 and waiting 30 min in line. But worth the wait. Very beautiful architecture and history inside. Can climb to third floor.

  • 4/5 Sutapa B. 1 year ago on Google
Please be aware that despite buying tickets in advance you gave to queue outside in the sun for well over a hour. So best to get your tickets on site so that if you are not happy to queue up you can decide to leave and not waste your money. The queue continues inside, lounging around in the sun, end or cold because the tower can only accommodate single file of people given the very narrow stairs. So again be prepared to spend over an hour lining up. Definitely not a place to bring babies and small children. Also not ideal for the elderly and disabled. Viewing the tower takes a maximum 10mins, but, queuing up over 2-3hours. The view over the river is beautiful and the fact that the tower was made to accommodate comforts for the king, meetings took place here and retention of the trap doors through which prisoners were thrown down as well as the line of cannons are pretty good. Watching the sunset from here is also great and we did wade into the water full of fishes, to refresh our weary legs. Unfortunately a lot of hats get blown off here. So mind yours despite the sun and heat.

A must see! It's a beautiful place to visit and it's well organized so that going to the different floors of the tour is not a struggle. Even on rush hour, lines were not long and you had enough time to sightsee. There is information inside the tower so going with a guide is definitely not strictly necessary.

Nice park that is next to the tower of Belém and the monument of the overseas combatants. The park has many trees and is well taken care of. There are many stands with drinks in the park and you can access the park with a bridge from the otherside of the street.

This place is really cool and it's like one of the most famous spots in Lisbon. You can get in for free if you have a Lisbon card, but you'll probably have to wait in line. Don't worry, though, it moves pretty quickly.

A beautiful area, a must see with a beautiful tower and other monuments in walking distance. The location though is not easily accessible. The best way to get back to central Lisbon is to cross the bridge and take a bus from the first main street. Or alternatively to start from the Tower and walk to Monastery

If you are visiting this on weekends, I would recommend buying tickets in advance and to show to the tower as soon as it opens since the lines are long enough to spend hours.

  • 5/5 Omar S. 4 years ago on Google
Fantastic tour. We had a guide and were able to skip the line otherwise I’m not sure how long the wait is. There is a clever system for allowing people to climb up the steps with traffic control to and from the tower.

Famous monument in Lisbon. Coming here with bus is better because bus stop is near to the tower. Coming here with the train is not a good option as the train station Belem is around 20-25 minutes walk away from the the belem tower. Public toilet near to tower was closed which shows poor management skills. There is another public restroom next to bus stop but you need to pay 10 cent in the machine to use the toilet. The cleanliness in the restroom is not perfect. Visiting the tower in evening is also a good thing as the sea level reduces and a real good reflection of tower can be seen in the water.

One, as he is not an architect or an engineer, ends up wondering how the hell they have built this marvel in the place they did it ..... and there is no answer. You will immerse yourself in a dream world where only the captive princesses, the knights with their armor and scars and the odd dragon will be missing. I have no data, but if they haven't filmed medieval adventure movies here, they should. A delight. (Original) Si vas a Portugal no te puedes perder esta joya. An impressive tower with history for the Portuguese people. It is a pity that there is no tourist activity around it. Located at the "edge" of the Belém district route. Or the beginning of the route. Depends on how you see it

Gorgeous little park around the tower which unfortunately was still closed to renovation. Beautiful Lisbonese architecture all around and the warm winter weather just compliments it. There was a stand selling Pina coladas in pineapples and it added to the whole atmosphere. An absolute must visit in Lisbon away from the city center!

The view was marvellous. But to go all the way to the top you have to use a VERY narrow spiral staircase that only fits one person at a time. You have to use common sense to when to go down or up . The tickets can be bought on a park opposite to the tower .

  • 4/5 Andras N. 2 years ago on Google
It's a great place but the waiting for the tower is extraordinary. First of all you should buy tickets online, because the queue is so long. Than you have to queueing upstairs too. We were there for an hour and couldn't go up. They are holding up the line for ages instead of "one comes out one can go in" system.

I think it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. As such, the tower is very beautiful, and the landscapes that accompany it are not far behind. In addition, there is usually a man playing the violin that generates a surreal atmosphere.

It is recommended to buy your ticket online because there was an endless queue at the ticket office. We bought our tickets while we were in the queue so we could get in faster. The tower is beautiful outside. Very crowded inside. You have to queue too for getting in the top of the tower too.

Amazing and breathtaking place.😳 Each Pilar has a different decoration and theme. Just unbelievable the amount of work put into making it. The tour is simple around the outside cloisters and a bit inside. Still very beautiful. 🚨the tickets sale point is in a different place than the entrance. Make sure to buy the tickets before going to the entrance queue. Even though the queue seems to be long it moves fast.

Wonderful day in Lisbon enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. The castle looked amazing but the queue was pretty long and it was a very hot day so we just took photos, walked along the river, enjoyed looking around the little market where we bought some lovely cork gifts to take home and had delicious hand made ice lollies from a vendor by the park area. A thoroughly enjoyable experience

Not super special, but worth the visit. The tower looks amazing from the outside, especially due to its unique position in the water. Once you enter, the tower holds little surprises but does give a great view over the area. On the second floor, you are able to take a nice picture with the bridge in the background. It's free if you have the Lisboa pass, you just need to get it validated in the park nearby (no need to stand in line for tickets)

  • 4/5 Starasia S. 11 months ago on Google
We had an entry at 10:30 and soon after that it became very crowded. There is only one narrow spiral staircase to the upper floors, and you have to wait for people to pass, sometimes as much as 10 minutes. I do think it was worth it to go inside. We sat on some of the stone benches and relaxed looking at the water. But definitely arrive early. We had the first entry at Jerónimos Monastery, and then walked over to here and that worked out perfectly in terms of avoiding the crowds.

It's such a nice place by the ocean. Sadly, we couldn't go in because it closes at 6 p.m. but we definitely enjoyed the sunset with the lovely breeze. Tourists taking pictures, locals running and cycling, piñacolada sellers near the tower. I would recommend it. It also has lots of coffee shops and restaurants nearby.

This is a Lisbon landmark. If you are visiting, suggest to include it in your itinerary. Learn the history behind and get a photo. Not worth going in. It's better to appreciate it from the outside. Try to find the good luck rhino.

  • 5/5 Ray A. 6 months ago on Google
Pretty cool on the outside, it was an hour-long line that I'm happy I did not wait or pay for. After looking inside via 360 reviews I probably would have been disappointed. Had I had a five-minute wait maybe it would have been worth it.

  • 5/5 Lunicorn S. 9 months ago on Google
Such a beautiful place to visit ! Totally worth it. Try to go early as the line to get in gets pretty long. Once inside you can go into the 3 floors, the first one has just cannons, second floor has the patio area that you can walk into and get pictures, and the third one doesn’t have anything. It was the kings room.

  • 4/5 Jan G. 5 months ago on Google
It was beautiful outside but going in is another story. There was a long line when we went and even though we have the Lisboa card, we didn't know you have to get another ticket/claim them as they were sold out that day due to the volume of people that visited. But nonetheless, it was pretty outside and most people who got in said it was okay but better to be veiwed from the outside. I'll go back again next time but hopefully they have a better lining system.

  • 4/5 Greg S. 5 months ago on Google
The Belém Tower was built in the second decade of the 16th Century to partially fortify the mouth of the Tagus River which after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake became redirected. It sits on a small island off the coast of Lisbon that now can be walked to by a short wooden pier. It has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1983 and in 2007 was added to the registry as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. This limestone structure has been restored and reinforced to maintain integrity and is open to tours daily for a small ticket price. You can get tickets just prior to visiting and discounts are available. When in Lisbon it is one of the must see sites and can be toured in less than a few hours traversing the draw bridge and the spiral staircases. The dungeons are not accessible nor is the very top section, but there remains plenty to see.

Very pretty Tower full of details! Pity we couldn't enter... You better buy tickets in advance. It was sold out that day. To be honest I expected bigger seeing the photos in reviews, but really worth the visit.

November weather is hit and miss. We got lucky and the weather was perfect around 20c. The line up going in was really long, so we didn't end up going in. We enjoyed walking around the area. Reminder: They charge 0.50 euro to use the washroom.

While it is an impressive building, there is a long wait inside to get actually to other floors. The tickets are not expensive, but it takes a lot of time which is kind of "meh".

I didn’t go inside because the line was quite long even before one hour before it’s closed, but the view was beautiful. You can enjoy the sunset here and it has wide open space.

Entry (included under Lisboa Card) gives some better photo opportunities but doesn't justify the long queue time (I went on a quieter day with a 30 min wait). Recommend taking photos from outside and walking along the river to see the rest of Belem.
