Onigiri-A

Restaurant Japanese restaurant

🫤 TLDR: friendly but not a professional service and kitchen flow. Food tastes bland, no better than convenience store, yet priced with restaurant standard, too expensive for the quality and overall service. Maybe for you if you are desperate of some japanese other than sushi and have plenty of time.... People often mention onigiri, restaurant, experience, Japanese, good, friendly, chef, rice, crispy, delicious,

TLDR: friendly but not a professional service and kitchen flow. Food tastes bland, no better than convenience store, yet priced with restaurant standard, too expensive for the quality and overall service. Maybe for you if you are desperate of some japanese other than sushi and have plenty of time. We were super excited about this restaurant, because it serves Japanese food and highly rated, sadly it was quite an experience and a chaotic one to say the least. The menu is a simple one that shouldn't ideally require much time to cook, if preparation is done well, yet it took us over an hour to get a glass of water, and one piece onigiri, please note that the restaurant wasn't crowded. The chef was doing the best he could to cook and deliver the food to the right customers as fast as he could, inspite of chaotic chain of commands. Unfortunately the food tastes basic. The rice in onigiri isn't spiced well, the way the nori served isn't crispy, it was loose nori, loose nori should be crispy maybe roast the nori just before serving, otherwise nori can be used to wrap the rice tightly so it's acceptable if it's moist. The tonkatsu is bland and dry, thankfully it was served with the sauce. Gyoza was a bit undercooked, but okay. The sake carafe serving was stingy, it wasnt a full carafe, it would be better if they use smaller carafe. Miso soup is probably the best one. They didn't have our order registered in the cashier, so we had to guide the chef with what we ordered. It was really chaotic experience. But thank you chef for doing your best!

Cozy and cute place with amazing japenese food, with excellent service. The place is a bit small but the vibe is nice. The chicken tonkatsu was so good, and the spicy tuna as well as their crispy onigiri was our favorites. We’ll definitely come back!

Authentic food, great service. It is located in a cool corner at two side streets, if your looking for a local experience, this place will deliver.

I had the onigiri set. I can’t remember what the other two flavors are but I was really impressed with the sesame flavor with shoyu mushrooms stuffed inside. Sesame is crispy, the inside is warm and savory, filled with umami!! It might not be traditional Japanese flavor, but it certainly does taste good!

Loved all the details to decoration inside. Took myself on a date here and was truly jamming to the playlist while eating Onigiri for the first time. Thank you to the owner ! xo Bisous

Great freshly prepared Japanese food. Cozy artistic cafe off the beaten path and mostly visited by locals. Be prepared to wait a bit if you're a bigger group as it might be just one person cooking and serving, but it defenitely worth the wait!

Very small restaurant with one big table on the inside and a few smaller ones on the outside in a typical alley. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the food was just okay, nothing to write home about. I tried 4 different vegan onigiri, the rice tasted a bit bland everytime - unfortunate, since it is the main part of the dish.

Cristina and her lovely daughter made us feel at home, the atmosphere of the place is fantastic: cosy, friendly and delicate. I love how they combine different tastes to give a unique food experience, not the typical Japanese restaurant, more a creatively nuanced chef house. Made me think of Master in Midnight Diner… will surely come back many times

Found this great restaurant by chance via a small sign the owner placed nearby. The food was incredibly delicious. We had the Omakase which includes various dishes served one after the other. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the sorba. Small and humble place but a real gem. Their hours are limited but really worth a visit. It's a small family operated restaurant. Fell in love with everyone there. Great dining experience and they were all so kind. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Lisbon. 5-star in my book.

Wow! A really small, cozy spot with INCREDIBLE food. The onigiri hit the spot (we tried the unagi, crispy, pork and tuna) and the cold veg soba was incredible. Forgot to take a picture of the veg gyoza and ceviche as we were so excited. Definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Service is also attentive and really sweet. Wish I could go back in time to experience my first bites again!

Excellent onigiri! My favourite was the “crunchy” onigiri which has sautéed mushrooms as the filling. Takes about three for a normal build guy like myself to feel full, but I had no issue ordering more as it was super tasty! The staff are also super friendly and welcoming. I would recommend visiting!

What a great find! All three of us absolutely loved our food. I had the tonkatsu and since I’m from Asia I’ve had many tonkatsu in my life, and this was a really good one. Perfectly fried and seasoned, rice was just right and the cabbage was delicious. My friends had the soba noodle and loved the broth. Very friendly service too. I’ll be back!

Easy atmosfere, delicious food! I strongly recommend the Onigiri Crispy and Cheese! The place is run by a Portuguese/Japanese family that gives the place a specially welcoming touch.

Very good Japanese restaurant where more than a simple dinner, we came to live a convivial experience with the chef Christine and her team. We enjoyed it very much, and we went back several times during our stay !

so good!! Highly recommend coming here I really love onigiri and this was the only spot in Lisbon I could find. I love the tuna onigiri and the tonkatsu (fried chicken plate). The pickled cucumber is also so good. I came twice and ordered the same thing. Keep in mind they only accept local cards and cash!

Onigiri-A is definitely more of a casual restaurant with tight seating. You can find casual Japanese food like 🍙 which is rice with some filling. There are also smaller dishes that are popular in Japan, where each dish was quite tasty in its own. We had the hot soba, pickled cucumbers and the sea bass and two onirigi. The onigiri we had was the original (most folks will likely not like the amount or rice to pickled filling) and the pork which was fairly dry. It's something worth trying for the experience but it was not a wow experience. Note - they did not have any raw sashimi / nigiri, so it's definitely not a sushi spot.

Excellent food and really friendly staff. Menu sometimes improvised, had some excellent beef bourgeon, made by a French chef at a Japanese Resturant. Fair prices, home made decor. Well worth a visit.

Incredible food! Christine’s shop is a must go. Warm environment, good people, and the food is spectacular. everything you’d want from a restaurant.
