I’m sorry to say the food was completely inedible. It was served cold and the flavors were really just bad. By bad I mean we left our plates as is after a few bites. I was genuinely shocked at how unpleasant the experience was given the high Google ratings and am writing this review to let other people know…

We’ve been to Laurentina because of the Bacalhau a bras and that one was very good. Nevertheless, the other meal was not very good. The fish was swimming in oil and tasted like cheese. Furthermore, it was very chewy. Service was nice but sometime we felt like we weren’t that much welcomed by some of the waiters. What absolutely surprised us in a negative way was that the couvert was 2.25€ each person, which means that 2 slices of bread and maybe 5 olives cost that much. Normally, one couvert is around that price and contains the same amount of bread etc.

I come to this place as cod fish is one of my favourite. The food is okay. It’s not bad but maybe came with high expectation, failed to understand why it’s popular. Would recommend to give it a try if you happen to be around the area.

DISCLAIMER: we ate outside by our own choice, we went on a friday at lunch time, and we have been several times to this restaurant before 2020. The restaurant was packed by tourists, so we asked if we could be seated outside as there was space abd the weather was fair. No warning from the restaurant, but as soon as we sat down we saw the dirty tables, we thought nothing of it. We cleaned it ourselves, and once we did we understood (as you can see in the photos) there were bugs falling down on the table, dead and alive, and the restaurant had this area open for service, again no warnings. I ordered the octopus salad as a starter, it was very fresh and tasty. The portions are really big, I had the rice seafood stew that easily became my favourite meal. My partner had the Mozambique style cod stew with shrimp on top which was also super fresh, and tasty. If you are in the area it is definitely a must visit :)!

We went there around 2 pm, in the outdoor part they have plenty of places to sit. We asked for a place, but we had to wait 5-10 minutes until they found a time to guide us to sit. Laurentina lives up to their name, they are very good with cod! We had four main dishes, bread/olives, cod croquettes, four bottles of wine, and two bottle of water for ~160€. The staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful. The only bummer had nothing to do with the food or staff…my husband and I had zero bars of cell phone service in the lower dining area, which worried me because my kids were at home with a babysitter. We have Vodafone and iPhones. Our dinner companions had full service on their androids with MEO. This is not the restaurant’s fault but something to be aware of if you have Vodafone and need cell service during your meal.

We liked the food pretty well, especially the moqueca de bacalhau, which comes with rice. They don't serve tap water, only bottles, which is annoying. I wish they provided butter with the bread convert. Prices are reasonable considering the restaurant feels fancy and has a nice ambiance, although you could spend less and get the same food somewhere more casual.
