👍 Monument next to Rossio and the National Theatre, interesting both for its architecture and attractive details such as: chimneys, shutters and courtyard and historical pieces. The Independence Palace, classified as MN - National Monument, is located in Largo de São Domingos next to Largo do Rossio in Lisbon. It was, in the past, also called the Rossio Palace, or the São Domingos Palace [1]. It is also currently known as Palácio Almada because it belonged, from the 15th century until the time of its purchase by the Portuguese State, to the Almada family (holder of the representation of the title Count of Almada and Abranches). There is knowledge of a parchment from the 15th century referring to its purchase, by the D. Count D. Fernando de Almada e Avranches, captain-general of Portugal[2], and his wife, from the nobleman D. Nuno de Barbudo, when he passed into the hands of said family, becoming their “mother house” or “manor house”. Sometimes also called the Restauration Palace, as it was in this house that D. Antão de Almada and the 40 conspirators planned the last meeting that gave rise to the Restoration of the Independence of Portugal, on December 1, 1640, with the overthrow of the yoke Filipino and with the acclamation to king of D. João IV.

Also called Palácio da Restauração, because it was here that a group organized to restore Portugal's independence from Spain, or Palácio Almada, it is close to Dom Pedro IV square. It's a house full of history but as soon as I entered I was told that I could only stay in the courtyard and enter a small room, with a statue and some flags. So, I stayed there for about 10 minutes, took some photos, but it was a bit disappointing. Not worth it

The Independence Palace, located in the splendid city of Lisbon, is more than a simple historical monument. It is a true testimony to the past, an inseparable link between Portugal's identity and its path as an independent nation. This impressive structure, which serves as a beacon of culture, history and tradition, is an unparalleled place to understand the Portuguese soul. The exterior of the Palace is imposing. The architectural lines that define the Independence Palace are remarkably elegant, incorporating traditional features from different periods of Portuguese history. Its privileged location allows it to stand out in Lisbon's urban panorama, establishing a strong and distinctive presence. Inside, the Palace is a collection of treasures. Each room, each corridor, tells a story. The carefully organized exhibitions take us on a journey through centuries of Portuguese history, from the glory days of the Discoveries to the challenges of the modern world. It is impossible not to be captivated by the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage on display. However, the Independence Palace is much more than a museum. It is a space to celebrate Portuguese identity, where traditions are kept alive and values are passed from generation to generation. The conferences, debates and workshops held regularly at the Palace are clear proof that the place is not stagnant in the past, but, on the contrary, continues to actively participate in the construction of Portugal's future. A crucial aspect that cannot be ignored is the role of the Palace on the international stage. The Independence Palace has been a stage for diplomacy and international relations, reinforcing Portugal's position as a relevant and respected nation in the global community. It is difficult to visit the Independence Palace and not feel deeply touched by the history of Portugal and the sense of continuity that the place inspires. At its heart, the Independence Palace is a powerful testament to Portuguese identity in the world. It is a place where the past meets the present, and where both come together to shape the future. As Portuguese, we can be proud of this monument that represents our nation so well. So, whether you are a history enthusiast, a cultural scholar or simply someone looking for an authentic piece of Portugal, the Independence Palace is a must-visit. I guarantee that your visit will be a rich and enriching experience.

(Translated by Google) It's beautiful on the outside. But the inside needs some finishing touches. As always awaits works and official decision. It has an exhibition of photography by Portuguese authors. I was very well received by both the Secretariat and the person in charge of the exhibition.
