👍 The church was beautiful for a small fee you can go into private areas but you can also go into the church for free. The Blue room was so incredibly vibrant it was like the room was beaming ,I had never seen a blue that color in my life it was stunning. I would definitely add this to your itinerary... The Church of Our Lady of Loreto of the Italians is situated at Largo de Chiado and directly across the street from the Our Lady of the Incarnation church. Not exactly sure of opening hours but we found the church open for mass recently and were able to visit afterwards. Historically, the Church of Our Lady of Loreto was originally built in 1518 for the Italian community of Lisbon. It was destroyed by fire in 1651 and built in the manner which you see today around 1675. Unfortunately, the church suffered severe damage from the earthquake in 1755 and had to be rebuilt again by architect Jose da Costa e Sliva, who restored the church to its previous state. The exterior facade includes an image of Our Lady of Loreto along with two angels with papal coats of arms. This is believed to be the work of renowned 17th-century Italian architect Francesco Borromini. Within the church, you'll find nave with 12 chapels, one each for the apostles. Side chapels are separated by marble inlay and columns with delicate design which are topped by artworks of niches filled with statues of the apostles. Continue looking upward and you'll see a delightful ceiling patterns and fresco. Overall, the Church of Our Lady of Loreto of the Italians is another beautiful historic church in the Chiado neighbourhood that is well worth popping in for a visit if you find them open during time spend in this area of Lisbon.

Mesmerising! Just awesome! If you look up at the Beautiful Painted Roof you will see An Episode of Holiness! Look carefully, meditate and read about it (in any order).

This church is located on the north side of Largo do Chiado. The church is dedicated to Lady of Loreto. The first Loreto church was built in 1522 for the city's Venetian and Genoese merchants. The church was badly damaged in an earthquake on November 1, 1755 and was rebuilt in 1785 under the direction of the architect José da Costa e Silva. The single-nave church has twelve side chapels based on the model of the twelve apostles. On the facade there is the papal coat of arms above an image of the Mother of God, which is carried by two angels. The organ, created by an unknown organ builder, dates from the 18th century.

Many beautiful words have already been written about this grand church. And I agree with them. Let me share that I honored to have had the chance to go to Holy Confession in this 5 centuries old church as did my friends. And attend mass and receive the Holy Communion before going on “the walk” a few days after. Check out their website. After all, age is not just a number. 📿

Beautiful church. We did not make it for a mass but just stopped in while in the neighborhood to look inside. The ceiling has a beautiful depiction of the crowning of Mary, and the chapels on the side have a number of lovely portraits. The church is conveniently located near Camoes plaza, so it is easily accessiblenfor service.

The Lisbon church of the Italians, 'Nossa Senhora do Loreto', opened first in 1522, partially incorporating some of the former 14th century city walls, largely destroyed in 1651 by a fire, rebuild 1676, then largely destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. In 1785, it reopened, retaining the 17th century chapels of the twelfe apostles that flank the nave. The church is still patronized by descendants of the Italians of centuries gone by and by newer members of the Italian community in Lisbon. Open most days and evenings. Only accessible by stairs, so not by wheelchair.

It is a very beautiful church. Very much of Italian style: 12 side chapels, 12 Apostles statues, marble, stained glass windows.

Beautiful building. Unfortunately, not aligned with Catholic Tradition, and without the Tridentine Mass. 😪

Locating in the corner of square the stairs of this church are popular to take nice pictures. The interior is pretty classic for catholic places, always strict beauty and full-of-sacred

Loved this church! Absolutely beautiful. We went to mass at 09:00 on Sunday as this was the only church in the area that had mass that early—most of the other churches had mass starting at 10:00 or 12:00. Our mass was in Portuguese, however, there was also a mass later on in the day that was in Italian, as I believe this is connected to Italians in someway. Mass was also very nice.
