One of the top cultural and historical buildings in Lisbon to he on your "to-visit" list. This Palace shows the opulence with which the royal family planned and buit their estates. Nothing short of breath taking! The rooms are huge and at times even nicely decorated. It's interesting to see the family tree and historical background. They surely have built an amazing piece of architecture, albeit, they only built half of it ... makes you wonder how amazing it would have been, if constructed in its entirety!!!

Insanely cool! Can't believe more people don't home here. This was the best attraction I saw during 5 days in lisbon. Perhaps the most unique palace I've ever seen. Stunning art and architecture. Only $5 entry and so many great facts and the tour is incredibly informative. I want to go back!

A lovely palace for a bargain entry price of 5€! Lots of beautiful rooms to see. I think the most spectacular rooms are the banquette room, the blue room and the throne room. The information is all written in English as well. Some of the staff members seemed a little delirious. For example, one of the ladies kept trying to play peekaboo with a mirror in the "queen's bathroom". I don't know if that's because it hadn't been very busy. But most of them seemed bored. Still that being said, a lovely place to go!

I arrived just before opening and there was already a very short queue formed. But it moved pretty fast once the doors opened. Admission is a little cheaper at 8 euros, than a lot of the other attractions in Lisbon. And you do get quite a bit for your money's worth - The rooms are very well maintained, and ornately packed with lots of paintings, antiques and some descriptions of what you're looking at. It's not particularly crowded so you get your own space while looking around. There's a bus that goes right to the entrance so it's very convenient getting here too

Went here yesterday and had a lovely experience. Small and well curated museum. Tickets were under 10 euros, which felt fair for the size of the museum. We spent about one hour here, definitely worth the little detour to see this piece of Portuguese history. Overall, it is very worth it. On a rainy day, this is the perfect place to spend some time.

A great place to visit. The cost line is wide, spacious and with great views. The beach is easily accessible. It can be windy sometimes. There various local shops and restaurants to provide a good experience with food and shopping. There are places to rest and places to exercise as well. The views from the top of hill are great.

This palace was one of the best palaces that I've ever been in the world. The magnificence and splendor of it is amazing. The banquet room is truly fit for a king and the throne rooms are Jane Normas. I love the multiple ball rooms. The marble room was very unique. I'm so glad I didn't miss the opportunity to go here

This place is so underrated. We saved this place for the last and only decided to go if we had time, I was surprised to see such beautiful interiors of the palace. This place is far more better than some of the overrated castles and places around Lisbon. Worth the visit!

Great visit, loved it! The luxury is amazing. There are many rooms opened to the public to visit. Statues in many of them. A lot of the original furniture and decorations is present. You can walk at you own pave and there are many information pannel explaining the role of every room and how it was used.

One of the highlights of Lisbon, this is one of the several royal palaces in and around the Portuguese capital and the most centrally located. Although only moderately attractive on the outside, the interior possesses all the grandeur expected of a royal residence.

Interesting visit! There is something about old palaces that never gets old. Well, some parts need to be renovated if you know what I mean… definitely worth going, you can take a bus that stops literally at the entrance.

(Translated by Google) The Ajuda National Palace, a national monument since 1910, was once the official residence of the Portuguese royal family in the reign of King Louis I, and the last palace to be built in Portugal. After more than thirty years living in Lisbon, we are now rediscovering all the enormous historical and cultural potential. The Ajuda National Palace, in addition to all that nineteenth-century atmosphere of the home of the kings of Portugal, now shows the Chapel of Queen D. Maria Pia. It was his place of devotion. It had never been shown to the public and now, for the first time, we can appreciate all those works of art from the 17th and 18th centuries, beautiful religious objects, paintings, sculptures and the Holy Face of El Greco, the only work of this painter in Portugal.

A relatively small exposition of royal family household. It is quite a classic palace with well preserved interior. The place is not big and it takes about 1 hour to go through exposition. It is nice to take a bus up the hill and take a walk down towards the river where you can visit other museums. Enjoy!

Kids loved seeing this as they can see what real kings and queens lived like in the past. “Why would you put a painting of someone’s face staring at you in the bathroom!” “In the past, blue was the color for queens/females!” “how many people can sit in that dining room!” It’s def educational for kids and quick visit. An hour is enough. But the palace is sort of in the middle of nowhere. No restaurants, no cafes, nothing at the location. We arrived very hungry so rushed to finish and take a bolt car to go back to old town to eat. We wanted to eat some small snacks there but it’s absolutely nothing except a vending machine. Overall, it’s worth a quick visit for sure, particularly if kids haven’t seen many royal palaces.

Beautiful palace the interior is extraordinary realy wow . Too bad lacks attention from tourist as it is not on any of the hop on off routes so its a bit out of the way up the hill but big time worth visiting for cheap access only 5 & kids free. Staff were helpful and welcoming answering questions about history details . There was signs in each room with multiple languages giving summary . You will need a good 1 to 1.5 hours to enjoy it without rushing . There are toilets and elevators but no AC

Really enjoyed this palace. Interesting to see the history of the royal family and relatives. Arrived in the morning soon after opening and it was quiet, no line. That's the best time to go. You can take pictures without flash and no video.

Ajuda National Palace is a mesmerizing window into Portugal's regal past. Every room tells a story, adorned with artistry and elegance. However, it's disheartening to witness some signs of leakage and deteriorating floors due to water damage. Such a gem deserves impeccable preservation.

We had the opportunity to visit the palace on January 18, 2024, during the afternoon hours. The number of visitors present at that time was relatively low. The palace is expansive in size, featuring an abundance of artwork adorning the ceilings and majority of the walls. Even the furniture pieces are considered works of art. Due to our possession of the Lisboa Card, we were granted complimentary admission. It is advisable to allocate sufficient time to thoroughly explore the interior of the palace.

Few tourists seem to make it to the former royal palace, which is a surprise as it is an amazing place and just round the corner (albeit up the hill) from Belém. This does mean that it is a quiet, enjoyable experience, unlike many palaces. Built on the site occupied by a wooden royal palace after the 1755 earthquake, this is a succession of breathtaking rooms. For modern tastes, they are overcluttered and the decoration is not the sort many would chose for their houses today, but it is a fascinating insight into the world of the nineteenth-century Portuguese monarchy. The upstairs throne room, banqueting hall (still used by the President for state banquets) and ballroom are especially magnificent. Each room has a brief explanation in Portuguese, English and French, plus descriptions of some of the main items of interest. Definitely worth an hour or two, and easily reached by bus if the climb up the hill is a deterrent. It also has the advantage of being open on a Monday.

Definitely worth visiting. It's a shame that not a lot of people know about it. The entrance fee is cheap compared to other castles and the quality of the tour is just as good. Plus you have the museum of the royal treasure next to it which is an experience in itself.

I highly recommend visiting this place if you are in Lisbon. I don't understand why there were so few visitors, but I guess this was a great opportunity to enjoy the place without the crowds. Tickets are very reasonable for what you get to see and experience. Everything inside is beautiful, from the furniture to the history of the place, and totally worth the money.

Beautiful palace ! A lot to see and to discover inside it (appartement, all kind of art, furnitures...) I was really impressed by some of the rooms, especially the the reception hall. The price is pretty cheap, so if you are around, it’s a nice place to stop ! However I would not say it’s a must-do.

This was a beautiful stop for us in our camper. We spent a night on the beach and woke up to exquisite sunrise views with the expansive beach stretching as far as the eyes can see. We walked for ages and passed some beautiful beach bars and restaurants. We were there in winter and so not much was open. However, we also explored the cliffs which were beautiful! It is a lovely drive through the park and even more lovely to stroll through the cliff tops.

A really wonderful place where you are usually alone, but it is hard to get here if you want to stay on the cliff and a dead end as well. On the beach you can walk and enjoy the beautiful white sand or collect some shells while you whatch the great portuguese sunsets

This is an absolute amazing place to BE. The views are breathtaking and the beaches pretty secluded. There are trails leading to the beaches down below where you can take beautiful walks, get in touch with nature or simply relax. This is a reserved area. No restaurants or any other amenities - no human made stuff, only and all nature. Very much worth the visit when in Lisbon, about 20 to 30 min. Awesome place to connect with all that surrounds us. You can park off the road, go for a beautiful walk and explore. Amazing view. Have fun!

  • 5/5 Marco C. 4 years ago on Google
Peaceful trails engulfed by forest, with unique, partly hidden viewpoints. Most exploring can be done on foot or mounted on a bycicle, but there are also trails for motorized vehicles. Either way, an extremely rewarding experience.

Great spot, great view and amazing beach. You just don’t see the end. Fantastic sunset. On the other hand the place is not taken care and seems lost in time by the worse reasons. Full of illegal constructions, the road barely existis and there’s only one access down so avoid busy summer days.

Fantastic former home of the former Portuguese royal family. Wonderful Neoclassical building with great classical, renaissance and asian collections. It a bit of a pain to get to, but reasonably prices as the palace is surprisingly small. The highlights are the Grand Waiting Room and the Audience room with it's grand tapestries, the The Marble Room with it's animal menagerie of sculptures, and of course the throne room. Definitely worth a visit in Lisbon.

Very small museum. We saw the Maria II exhibit. A woman who made a pitcher of granita out of life's lemons. Short lesson on early 19th century Portuguese politics. Well organized, in Portuguese and English. 60-90 minutes.

  • 5/5 Rhicke J. 2 years ago on Google
The Palácio da Ajuda was one of our Lisbon highlights. It is still used for state dinners so remains a state treasure. Unlike many palaces this one has original furniture, household items and even royal family photos. It is amazing to see and even more amazing to know the original palace was not completed so the Portuguese government is now finishing the palace as new construction. Don't miss this slice of 19th century history.

Beautiful palace. Definitely worth a visit when you're on this side of Lisbon. Best combined with the nearby church and monastery and the famous Pasteis de Belem

Well preserved palace, built in the late XVIII century, begining of the XIX, it has a very big colection of pieces of furniture, pottery, decorative pieces, paintings, etc. The dining hall is where the state dinners are still held today by the Presidente. The ticket is only 5€. A must see if you go to Belém/Ajuda.

Filled with stories and facts, this well preserved monument shows a lot of what the royalty life used to be and how it looked like. The people who work there are very polite people and very welcoming.

Friendly staff who are willing to talk to visitors. There are a few visitors. The Royal palace is full of original objects! They are there for you to gaze at without glasses being installed in the front. You have the peace to stroll around without the noise of crowds! The national treasure museum is a super modern minimalist architecture, rare design and visually striking! And there are very few visitors! Excellent museum! Beyond expectations!

It was beautifully maintained with so much to see! It's not crowded at all during weekdays so you can take your time with each rooms/halls. It's part of Lisboa pass. Definitely will come back with my family.

Went here because a lot of places are closed to visitors on Mondays, but I saw this was open. There were no crowds like many other attractions in Lisbon which was refreshing. It was cool to see how the royal family lived. Glad I went!
