👍👍 We did the Sintra & Cascais day tour and we had a wonderful time! David was awesome!! Knowledgeable, friendly, and relaxed. We loved that we got to see so many beautiful spots and learn more about Portugal without feeling like we were on a tour. It felt more like we were travelling with new friends.... Our family of 5 have been planning for this trip to Lisbon for many years! We reside in the United States. I had heard great things about this tour company so I contacted Marta online to plan our visit about 6 months ago. She was very professional and patient with me always answering my questions timely. Marta helped us plan a trip for Fatima, Batalha, Nazare and Obidos. Their pricing is very competitive to other tour companies. We then got to Lisbon and our assigned guide Paulo started communicating with us and gave advice on what to not miss while we are here. On the day of our tour, Paulo met us on time and the vehicle was clean and very comfortable. All through the trip, he talked about what we were seeing or going to see and answered all our questions. At each stop, he accompanied us into the location and was very patient with us and made sure he answered all our questions. He went above and beyond the duties of a guide and took care if one in our party who was not feeling well. Paulo also bought us some snacks to try when we were in a cafe or from a street vendor. He chatted with all in our party and used our names all through our trip. He also provided recommendations for lunch and dinner. When it all ended, we were sad to part ways as we had a great time and Paulo was like part of the family, the whole experience was like visiting with someone that you have known for a long time. We will definitely be using this tour company again and recommend you ask for Paulo if want an awesome adventure 😃

This tour was a once in a lifetime experience. Aside form the breathtaking views found in Sintra, Cascais and Guincho, the real beauty of this tour was our guide, David. He was professional, passionate about his work and proud to share Portugal's incomparable culture and scenery with his tour group. I couldn't recommend this tour enough.

My daughters and I took this tour on May 11, 2017 and it was fabulous. Our guide drove us around Sintra, Cascai Beach and the outskirts of Lisbon. We stopped for a picnic lunch and got to see the beautiful countryside. Our tour guide, Jerome, was fun and informative. We also got to meet and spend time with some wonderful people who were with us on the tour. I highly recommend this tour..you won't be disappointed!

David was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the local history and was laid back and fun to engage with. Our tour started early in the morning and we fit so much into the day. We wouldn't have been able to see half of the sites on our own in the time we had. He knew a bunch of great spots, and as we were travelling with kids, we were able to go at a our own pace. Everyone on our tour had a fantastic time and we all said we would use We Hate Tourism Tours again.

My husband and I took two tours with WHTT: We Love (to hate) Douro with Manuel and the X-Day Trip | Sintra & Cascais with Nuno. We enjoyed both of those excursions very much. With Manuel, he drove us around the Douro Valley and we talked about Portuguese politics, EU politics, heavy metal and punk music, and the Daily Show. We tried wine and olive oil at D'Origem winery (which was wonderful). He showed us the beauty of the Douro Valley but also talked about how Portugal is changing due to the effects of overtourism and the invasion of the digital nomads (teleworkers to us who live Stateside). With the Sintra and Cascais tour, at least one of these issues were immediately apparent to us as we saw how absurdly overcrowded these small cities were with large tour buses and hundreds of tourists. It was hard to enjoy it but Nuno had us go off the beaten track to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. If you hate tourism like they do (and like we do), definitely hit these people up. They love their country, and it truly shows.

I booked 3 different tours and I can't tell which one was the best cause they were all great but different in their own way. - Lisbon Introduction tour with Nuno. It was nice to not only see the touristy places but also the outskirts. Best spot on this tour was the abandoned restaurant in the Monsanto parc where you got a crazy good view! - Dinner tour with Marcos. We had a great group of only four guest and had some fun and crazy topics and good laughs together. The food served in the restaurant was great, don't bother to queue for the pasteis de belem during the day as you'll get to the place in the evening without tourists. Ending with a little porto we were three people going on for drinks afterwards. - Sintra-Cascais trip with Pedro. Here again we didn't visit the touristy castle but we saw the fabulous Montserrat Palace and its gardens. Lunch in a great local restaurant which you'll never find on your own. Later on to Cabo da Roca and Cascais. I can only recommend WHTT when you're looking for of the track places and don't need to see the touristy spots. All guides I had were charming and welcoming. It felt like friends showing their city. Rock on guys, you're great! Hope to visit again after this Covid-mess!

A very enjoyable and comfortable experience. Our tour was like going on a day trip with your friend who knows so much about so many things having to do with the places you are planning to visit and is also a wonderful host. We had a great time. Thank you Mannu for sharing your vast knowledge and also your entertaining opinions. This tour was limited to a small group and was an intimate experience. We visited places we probably wouldn’t have with other more mainstream tour companies. Definitely recommend if you are looking for something fun, interesting and a little different.

The best tour I've ever taken. It helps you see the city from the perspective of the people that live there. You discover places and foods and stories you would otherwise completely miss. You get the big economic and political picture and the funny local details. You reflect on the true impact of tourism and your role as a tourist - the good, the bad and the ugly. After the tour, I felt the guide was a close friend, and the city was a little bit my own. Cannot recommend it more!

Lisbon (Lisboa) is a big city and not easy to get to know in a couple of days. When you’ve walked through some of the cool neighbourhoods and need something a little different, I highly recommend We Hate Tourism Tours! We spent the day with Nuno on the Sinatra Cascais tour and had a fantastic time seeing the beautiful little villages and absolutely stunning views outside of the Lisbon core. We ate and drank local fare, got the inside scoop from Nuno and had a very personalized tour that often avoided some of the very over-crowded tourist traps. Definitely 5 ⭐️+

Incredibly nice and authentic Touristguide. Also punctual and courteous. The email we received afterwards with Informations about the Bars and Restaurants was helpful and detailed. If you want to book a Tour then support this Company. Nuno embodies Cosmopolitanism and combines it with his Love for his Homeland.

DIFERENT. Without any Doubts it was my favourite tour during my stay un europe. Nuno lead us through sintra and cascais but he wasn't behaving like a guide. Instead of it i felt i was with a friend that knows verte well the Place. We have a wine AND that Made it mucho More fun for the rest of the day. The most that i like was the flexibity un order to change the route AND for example visita quinta da regaleira that wasnt included at the begining. If i have to tell you something... Is that you have to be More well known cause, as i said to Nuno, your service rocks!!!

Great Guides to explore Portugal off the beaten track. You won't visit all the main tourist attractions but instead will discover gems, get s better feel for the Portuguese culture and avoid standing in line for hours. This was our second tour with them and we'll be joining for more tours when we visit Portugal again.

We booked a Private Tour with Marta David whom we knew from past excellent "We Hate Tourism Tours." We wanted to see places outside Lisbon and for our first day Marta took us to Óbidos for an in depth tour of this charming city and then we had an excellent lunch. On our second day Marta took us far from Lisbon to see the "Bones Chapel" in Evora. This unique chapel was decorated with the bones of over 5,000 Franciscan monks and local parishioners. After this unique Tour we had one of the best dinners we have ever had in Portugal at a restaurant featuring fresh "Black Pork" Grilled Fillets. We highly recommend Marta David!

Excellent tour of Sintra & Lisbon with Mannu & David. We had 2 vans and they were great about coordinating so we were together. They know their city & country well and provided interesting commentary throughout the tour. They were prompt in picking up and gave us additional time on the back end. Marta was also terrific to work with in setting up our tour. I would not hesitate to book with them again for future trips.

I absolutely love the crew at WHTT! Had an incredible experience with them in 2018, booked them for my wedding, and now again for a more intimate tour with friends for our first post-Covid trip in Portugal. It's always a 5-star experience with them! Doesn't matter who you are or if it's your first (or 5th) time in Lisbon, book an experience with them. It's like hanging out with old, knowledgeable friends. Very friendly (and queer, black/brown friendly)!! Love you guys!

We booked the LISBON WE "HATE" LANDMARKS tour. The tour is done in their van. It was a very comfortable way to get around hilly Lisbon and get an overall feel and introduction of Lisbon. João, the guide for our tour, had very good insights about the city, its past and its present. Very hospitable. We highly recommend this company.

Do yourself a favor and book a tour with this company! Run by locals. Food provided was lovely and authentic. Sophia’s a legend (today’s tour guide to Sintra). Also found the spots we visited both beautiful and not overly crowded. Super full day, but flew by. Thanks again!

We loved it! Did the big tour around Sintra&Cascais, visited Regaleira, had some snacks and just a great time over all. Nuno was just the best guide and it felt super personal. Just like the reviews we read: it was like a friend showing us around. Thank you!

Exceeded all expectations! Review of We Hate Tourism Tours We booked a tour in 2017 with We Hate Tourism...we had the best time ever, so we booked 3 more tours! We had the best time, Marta really helped us out with planning all the little details of our trip. I told her what we wanted to do and she came up with a very affordable itinerary! She came up with a car seat for the baby and so many other details that made our trip stress free! We just did a wine tour in the Douro Valley out of Porto. Nelson was the guide and he took us to MÃOS E IRMÃOS. We sat around a huge family dining table while they served us a home cooked meal and plenty of delicious wine! The food was excellent, the hosts were excellent and the experience far exceeded my expectations! This will be forever my favorite tour! Paulo was our tour guide in Lisboa, he also exceeded all our expectations! He was so sweet and kind. He actually bought the baby a small talking toy to help her learn Portuguese! Both of these guides were more than generous with their t humor, kindness and time. None of the tours ended "on time', they both acted like we were old friends coming to see them in Portugal, they acted like they had nothing better to do then hang out with us. I can't say enough about We Hate Tourism tours! If we go back to Portugal (hopefully) there is no doubt they will be the first I will call to help arrange our tours.

Nuno Lopes de Paula met us at the designated location and took us on the most wonderful tour of Sintra and Cascais. He was personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly funny, making the tour one of the best experiences we had while in Portugal. When we return to Portugal we will definitely do additional “We Hate” tours, asking for Nuno, but expecting that everyone will likely have the same love and passion for what “We Hate” does to distinguish themselves from every other tour type available. We learned so much about Sintra’s history, architecture, and present day comings-and-goings. We loved it!

Today we had a walking tour of Lisbon with Lily, and she was fantastic. Full of personality and information. I feel like I truly got to know Lisbon in a way I never would have walking around on my own or doing a more traditional attractions tour. It was the perfect morning. She even offered to communicate after the tour should we need any other advice during our stay. Above and beyond!

Review is for both the Dinner and Belem night tour as well as the day trip to Sintra. Money well spent. Each tour guide is very passionate about their job and either Lisbon or Sintra. Small group setting made it more intimate and fun. Didn't follow the rest of the crowds. Really got to have a unique experience both days. This team is amazing

David took my wife and I on a tour today. We explored the Town of Sintra, Cascais and many many other local spots. Thanks to David got making this a very memorable tour. His hospitality made the trip, David is a real professional, very knowledgeable regarding the history of his country, as well knows many little spots you would never find on your own. Tha k you David for the great day, we had a blast!

I went on 3 different tours and all 3 were excellent small group tours. Only 6 people! This tour company has a lot of style, the guides are fun! I thought they were all good, David, Manuel, and the one cute gal who I forgot her name.

Really great experience if you want to get away from the tourist crowds and get honest thoughts about their city from real Lisboans! We had fascinating discussions both about the history of the city, its little quirks, and current issues such as gentrification and mass tourism, and we toured spots I would never have explored in another walking tour. Each guide seems to make their own tour according to their interests and local neighborhood, so every tour is unique, and guides will give LOADS of recommendation on any subject/activity you are interested in. Recommended for those who want to notice the little things that others miss and get a more nuanced understanding of Lisbon culture. Thank you for this experience and for your generosity in opening your city to us visitors!

I'm not much for organized tours and large crowds, but I like to learn about the cities I visit. We really hit the jackpot with Bruno (on a Porto evening tour). His personality, his knowledge, and his energy really made our evening. We ended up in a small fishing town in Vila Nova de Gaia - it was just perfect. A night of knowledge, experiences, and a new friend in Porto. Thanks Bruno! You have a place to stay in Toronto ANYTIME.

My husband, two teens and I did the dinner tour and city tour in Porto and the Sintra tour and city tour in Lisbon. All the tours with this company were amazing. This was our first time in Portugal and we usually don’t work with tour companies but WHTT’s philosophy was very appealing to us. What sets WHTT apart is the guides. They are a group of very smart and socially aware guys. Our favorite guide in Lisbon was Pedro. It was a pleasure to learn about Portugal from him. Don’t follow the guides with the little flags that just recite a list of dates. Hire these guys instead. You will love them.

We had a great day with Manu, on the Sintra tour. He is incredibly knowledgeable but also very chill, which meant it was the perfect mix of history and stories and also time to ourselves to explore specific locations. Would 100% recommend!

  • 5/5 Greg S. 1 year ago on Google
We had a truly memorable day with Manu as our guide, one of the main highlights of our month long trip around Europe. He was engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and a great sense of (very dryyyy) authentic humor that was appreciated. Visiting local sites and places to eat through the eyes of a local resident added even more to the experience. I cannot recommend this company enough and would have no hesitation to book with them again if we make it back to Portugal in the future. As some reviews have mentioned, this is more of an intimate tour (only 6 guests total for our trip) which allows you to really get to know the guides and ask more in depth questions and open dialogue for the culture of Portugal. We are already recommending this to our friends that are visiting Portugal soon.

  • 5/5 Susanne M. 2 years ago on Google
The Sintra tour was just awesome and Marta, my private tour guide told me all the stories behind everything and made that tour very special to me. She knows all about and around Lisbon & Portugal's history and day to day life, drove safely and always kept her smile- thank you so much for an unforgettable experience!

  • 5/5 Nir R. 1 year ago on Google
Took the Sintra and Cascais tour. Excellent tour. The guide provided a lot of information and history background about the places we visited and a long the way. All with humor and great atmosphere. The guide is flexible to adjust the different options of the tour according to the group.

  • 5/5 Jeff C. 6 years ago on Google
We booked this tour not really sure what to expect. The group was a perfect size. We all quickly became conversational and in a short time we were learning not only a huge amount about Lisbon but also a lot about the different countries we all came from. Joâo was/is a fantastic guide who showed us some absolutely BEAUTIFUL parts of the city that we would have definitely overlooked if we were wandering about on our own. We learned about some of Lisbon's social programs and street artists. We sampled some very tasty pastries and sandwiches. We toured the highest hills and the narrowest backstreets. All of it was absolutely wonderful. We can't recommend this enough! If you want a very customizable tour where you can see everything Lisbon has to offer; give We Hate Tourism tours a go.

Probably the best tour we have ever joined! Nuno was super friendly, laid back, giving very interesting-and only interesting - information!! Seeing lisbon that way, was a highlight on our trip. His tips about literally everything you might need, is a big plus. Thank you for everything!
