For a free museum under the Lisbon card - it’s decent. But it’s basic. I felt that there should have a lot more content considering it’s the story of the city. Most city museums are much more content heavy and interactive. This is pretty basic with a lot of listening then looking. Audio guide was nice as it’s geo location without you pressing the zone.

Turns out I was there on the 268th anniversary of the big earthquake (November 1). Visitors hold the self-guide device to their ear while viewing displays, then watch a realistic dramatization of the 1755 earthquake. I think it is a good summary of Lisbon’s history.

A rainy day brought us here and this place did not brighten our day. With its cheesy audio guide narration, this short tour offers a very thin history of Lisbon. Four centuries of Moorish culture get less than 20 seconds, and slavery is not even mentioned as Portuguese “discoveries” are glorified. Fair enough to note the incredible feats of Portuguese navigators, but it seems like whitewashing to gloss over the dark side so completely. Some very good visuals, videos and models, but ultimately a disappointing experience that needs updating.

I found it very beautiful. It might be the first for me to visit a museum that works on visuals, hearing and smell sense. I like how the it was recorded in as a conversation and it made you engage with them. The best 2 parts were the boat as I still remember the smell of spices, coffee, sugar and cinnamon after that comes the theater part where you see a short movie about the earthquake and how it damaged the City. I didn't take pictures while were were inside as I was enjoying the audio. I liked their gift shop. They also offer VR tour of Lisbon if you'd like that.

I really like the way it's been made interactive. You are given an audio guide and walk around the displays whilst the audio tells the story. I prefer this to having to read paragraphs like most other museums. The entry fee is decent (€6.50) and it takes about 45 minutes to go through everything. My only reason for giving it 3 stars is because of the way it glorifies colonialisation (just like other reviewers have said before me) Portugal did not "discover" India, Africa, or Brazil.

First visit to Lisbon, I started from this center, located in Piazza do Comercio, which, taking advantage of multimedia technology, the use of fragrances, perfumes, sounds and special effects, tells, in a historical, cultural journey, the birth and evolution of Portugal. The nice thing is that the audio guides, in all languages, are activated as the path proceeds. Then in a room the great earthquake and subsequent tsunami of 1755 is reconstructed in a more than real way, Really realistic with computerized videos and authentic tossing of chairs ... I highly recommend

Purchased a Lisboa Card and came here for a free visit. It includes a free audio-guided tour which provides a brief 60-minute introduction of Lisbon's history. Nice experience and with visiting.

Really interesting museum which gives you a great understanding of the history of Lisbon. There is an audio guide in multiple languages to choose from and an "earthquake room" with a cinematic film. Definitely think that it is worth a visit on your first time to Lisbon. However, I would have appreciated some more information about the more modern history of Lisbon as well.

If you're new to Lisbon and don't know much about its history, then this is the place to come. On entry, you are given an audio guide; all you have to do is follow the pre-defined path, and the guide will automatically play to tell you everything you need to know at each point. The museum takes around 45-60 minutes to go around, and while it covers some of Portugal's long history, it mainly focuses on the events of the earthquake, fire and tsunami in 1755 and the rebuilding efforts after. For EUR 6.5 per person, it's reasonably priced and worth visiting. If you don't have time, then perhaps watch a few YouTube videos to bring you up to speed - it's always worth learning a little about the history of a place to better understand and appreciate it.

Amazing museum about the history of Lisboa. Definitely the first place you have to visit as a tourist when arriving in the city. You get an audio guide and the storyteller has a lovely voice to listen to. Normal price is around €6, with the Lisboa card it’s for free! Had an amazing time and learned something new in a fun way.

Enjoyable visit. Price (€6.50) was decent and the audio guided storytelling was educational. Not bad way to spend a hour learning about some of the history of Lisbon. Do wish there was a little more too it, but still worth a visit, especially for 1st time visitors.

The history of Lisbon in a nutshell! Very interesting and shortcut history insight of Portugal and Lisbon. It really is worth a, especially for its use of modern technology! Have a walk through with a multiple language audio guide. All signs are in Portuguese and English and the whole exhibition is wheelchair accessible. Give it a try!

There’s a heavy focus on the 1755 earthquake and subsequent rebuilding, light coverage of many other events and no real mention of the slave trade. Only a couple components of the tour really felt immersive. Still not a bad way to spend an hour, especially if it’s a Monday as most museums are closed.

This is a must visit attraction if you visit Lisbon as it unfolds the story of the capital. Get a Lisboa Card and then this attraction is free.

$6.5 euro for about 1.2 hr of audio walk through of Lisbon history. My audio headphone is broken but no employee in sight to fix, you have to scan your ticket to go in, so can't just get out to go to the front desk for another headphone, so I was struggling with it until second half of the tour where I just unplug it and listen to the speaker. The earthquake part was well done but other then that, the other parts are not a lot of information and hard to follow. The audio-visual doesn't always match up and dosen't end at the same time which is confusing. Ok to go if you don't have much to do, need the restroom or need to hide from the rain.

Did this on the first day in Lisbon and was a great way to have an overview of the country’s history. You have an audio guide that automatically plays as you reach certain spots in the museum. You could easily finish the museum in an hour.

We entered at 5:45pm Sunday afternoon. It took about 45 minutes to finish the audio tour. No waiting , not many people. It’s so convenient to have the handhold automatic audio. There is a small theatre with video. All kids listened and watched carefully with more interest than in other museums. Our family enjoyed this visit . Worth visiting if you are not familiar with Portugal history.

Very nice Museum with full Audio Guide. You take more or less 1 hour and get a great overview over Lisbons Story. I really liked the Museum and would recommend it to those, that are interested in the history of Lisbon. It is to mention that this is a private Museum, therefore no free entries for Residents on Sunday and there are no original reliquaries in the Museum. It is all designed to be an interactive Museum and giving basic information about the city. For more specific information I would recommend visiting other Museums that Lisbon has to offer.

Free entry with the Lisboa card. We were given a hand held guide. It took us around the displays and it took about an hour. Interesting enough.

Awesome interactive experience telling lots of important information about Lisbon's history. It goes through so much history and does so in the most creative way possible, with models of grand sailing ships and the interior of a trade boat, as well as an immersive and impressive film about the earthquake of 1755.

It's amazing specially in this time of the year.

  • 2/5 Kadri K. 2 years ago on Google
The exhibition is very small and I would have preferred more visual information and texts instead of the audio guide. The film about the earthquake was short and disappointing as well. Might be interesting for a child, but a waste of time and money for an adult.

Great and a must if you visit Lisbon. Very informative and gives you a real insight into the history of the city .

Focused more on entertainment than on education. Sadly, I have learned very little. The ticket office is understaffed, consequently the long queue moves very slowly. After completing the tour I browsed the gift shop, found a lovely cotton t-shirt but could not find a cashier to pay for it. This has caused me to feel disappointed and sad.

Very interesting place, well organized and informative. Briefly describes the most important historical events and one can feel the Lisbon pride spirit. It doesn't offer any historical artifacts, but it's still worth checking to expand the knowledge about this amazing city.

Are you looking to find a place where you can learn interesting facts about Lisboa? Then this is the place. You will receive an audioguide which will guide you around the center and will explain the history of Lisboa. Also you will have a chance to see a special movie and feel one of the most historically moments of the town.

I enjoyed it, lots to learn about the history of lisboa. However, I wish they had reading panels because you have no option but to listen to the audio guide so it takes quite a long time. Some seats would be nice also. The place was empty on our Tuesday afternoon.

Nice place to find our more about city of Lisbon. But there is more to listen than to see. So without audioguide whole tour would take like 10 minutes. After all with worth to visit :)

We had a great time there on a rainy morning. You get an audio guide and everything is explained well. The physical stuff in the museum is also scenic and cool.

  • 5/5 Dalia N. 10 months ago on Google
A good place for family and kid to understand the history of Lisboa. They provide audio guide together with the ticket and it is quite easy to use. Price are $7 for adult and $3 for children for about 1 hour interaction which is just nice (not so heavy) for children. Our son love it. It is recommended for family first come to Lisboa. The location is also near to the most famous and biggest plaza in Europe with many good restaurants nearby and next to bus station.

A nice interactive museum with audio guide in multiple languages. I liked the earthquake movie. If you have Lisboa card the entrance is free.

  • 4/5 Summer M. 4 years ago on Google
With the Lisboa Card you get free access to the Lisboa Story Centre. This experience is more of an educational one, but not one I would recommend skipping if you enjoy learning about where you are visiting. You are provided with a GPS unit and headphones, and it tells you the story of Portugal as you walk through the Centre along with visual aspects to help illustrate the story.

  • 4/5 S J. 1 year ago on Google
Would recommend visiting - although some of the walkways are narrow and when we were leaving it was getting quite crowded so try avoiding peak hours. I imagine they skipped it in the interests of time and making the whole experience an hour, but it would have been nice to see some information on modern history ie the dictatorship and the carnation revolution etc.

Excellent museum very well explained / not boring at all (must get the audio guide to understand the tour!). A must-do when visiting Lisbon, ideally the first day so you understand the city even better when you explore it!

if you want to learn about the history of the city, then you have to visit this museum. with Lisboa card you can go for free, but you have to take your time to listen to all the stories. they have an audio guide for free as well.
