I simply cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Paolo is exceptionally knowledgeable - and so generous with his knowledge. He held us spellbound from the first minute to the very last. He brought Jewish history to life in an unforgettable and deeply moving way. We didn’t want the tour to end and have promised ourselves that we will be back on another trip to Lisbon to pick up where we left off with Paolo.

One of the best walking tours I've ever taken. Our guide, Professor Pablo was incredible. His knowledge of Portugal and its Jewish history opened up my eyes to the areas long, tortured past. The walk around the Jewish quarters was fascinating....getting to see so many areas of the city a very reasonable pace. The tour was suppose to last 3-3 /12 hours but Pablo gave us 4 hours. A true gem.

My partner and I were fortunate to encounter the embodiment of the ideal guide in Paolo Scheffer. He gave us a customized tour of Lisbon's Castelo, Alfama, and downtown. Paolo's knowledge, curiosity, and passion can only be matched by his kindness and loveliness. Out of the dozens and dozens guided tours we did all over the world Paolo's tour stands out. We never met any tour guide that possessed so much knowledge and was able to share so much of it in such a passionate and infectious manner. The tour changed our view on Lisbon and turned it into one of our favorite cities. We will certainly be back and look forward to our next tour with possibly the best tour guide on the planet.

Best walking tour anywhere! Paolo makes the history of Portugal come alive in a walk around Lisbon that focuses on the mostly forgotten Jewish legacy in the country. Stunning. He is articulate, knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. This usually fills up fast so book ahead. Don’t accept a substitute.

A Jewish-oriented tour of Lisbon with Paolo Scheffer, listed as the only licensed guide in Portugal who is Jewish, booked through Lisbon Explorer, is a must for anyone interested in Portugal's historic relationship with the Jewish community. Professor Scheffer provides unique information from a Jewish perspective that one will not find with any other tour guide in Portugal. This tour was one of the best tours I've been on, and the highlight of my trip to Portugal in October 2019.

The tour with Paolo was exceptional. He has a wealth of information related to Jewish history in Portugal and the country overall and shares it wholeheartedly in a very accessible way. The day we spent with him in Lisbon was a highlight of a wonderful visit to Portugal. Davide, who assisted with registration and provided other tips for our visit was so helpful and made communication quite seamless. Highly recommend this tour!

Outstanding tour about the complex and tragic Jewish history of Portugal and Lisbon in particular. I hadn't really appreciated what happened following the expulsion of Jews from Spain. Well worth the money.

This was perhaps the best tour, Jewish or otherwise, we have ever had. Paolo's knowledge was exhaustive, his communication warm, personal and effective, and we have recommended him already countless times to friends who are planning to travel to Lisbon. We learned so much but importantly, we also very much enjoyed the tour. I am looking forward to reading his books!

We were lucky enough to have a wonderful tour guide Paolo when we were visiting Lisbon earlier this month. We are Sephardic Jews from Seattle Washington and we learned so much about the Jewish history of Portugal we never knew. Paolo made it interesting and was informative at the same time. We would recommend anyone visiting Portugal to take a tour with Paolo.

Our guide, Paolo, made the Jewish tour of Lisbon a truly memorable trip. His extensive knowledge of the history, his wonderful presentation and professionalism together with his very approachable manner made it a very enjoyable outing. Indeed, he has encouraged me to learn more of Portugal’s history. I thoroughly recommend Lisbon Explorer and if you want to discover the Jewish history of Portugal, look no further than Paolo.

We had a fantastic tour with Paolo - an outstanding guide. It was definitely the high spot of our trip to Portugal. Paolo's knowledge and enthusiasm about Lisbon and its history and gelato was outstanding and all his recommendations were spot on. Can't recommend highly enough!

Paolo came strongly recommended. We booked him for a walking tour of (Jewish) Lisbon. We were not disappointed. A mesmeric 4.5 hours. An absolute MUST.

Our tour with Paolo was fantastic. He is an encyclopedia of Jewish history, especially the history of Portugal. We learned things that we didn't know and would never have known if not for this tour. Paolo is so impressive that we have already referred him to family and friends back home. Thank you for a highlight to our trip.

If you ever travel to Lisbon and don’t hire paolo for the Jewish walking tour of Lisbon you are missing out. Looking back from home after 3 weeks of travel this was clearly the highlight of our time in Portugal. Knowledgeable and passionate are what separates a good tour guide from a great one. Paolo is a great one. Thanks for an awesome day.
