You'll find a couple of interesting statues of historic Portuguese poets at Largo do Chiado including the bronze of 16th-century satirical poet Antonio Ribeiro (also known as O Chiado) placed in the middle of the small public space and surrounded with patterned Calcada portuguesa. Because of this prime location, you are almost always going to find musicians take up space right in front of the Antonio Ribeiro statue. However, what you see O Chiado, who seems to have taken his nickname for having lived in this neighbourhood for much of his life, as a late middle-aged man with a great smile. He is seated but leaning heavily forward as if dramatising a punchline just before revealing a joke. It is a fun statue to look at while passing through the area. If you look carefully towards the old Cafe A Brasileira nearby, you should also be able to find the seated statue of early 20th-century poet, Fernando Pessoa as well. It is worth a look-see as well.

“Estátua de Antônio Ribeiro Chiado” is a tradicional spot for live performances of street artists. Surrounded by cafes and bistros, in the heart of chiado neighborhood, it has a quite lovely atmosphere to sit down, chill and observe the city around.

(Translated by Google) Located in a small but lively square at the end of Rua Garret Street in Lisbon's famous Chiado district, is the famous poet Antonio Riberio statue. Chiado tram stop and metro station are right here. There are always street singers here and you can take a breather and enjoy music. Famous satirical poet Antonio Riberio, who lived in the country in the 1500s, also known as Chiado or O Poeta Chiado, is also a contemporary of Portugal's and Portuguese's greatest poet, Luis Vaz de Camoes. Even if you walk towards the Luis de Camoes square, a little further west, you can go to the Bairro-Alto area, which is famous for Lisbon's nightlife, from the streets to the right. (Original) Lizbon'un meşhur Chiado bölgesinde Rua Garret Caddesi'nin sonunda küçük ama canlı bir meydanda bulunan ünlü şair Antonio Riberio heykelidir. Chiado tramvay durağı da, metro istasyonu da tam buradadır. Burada sürekli sokak şarkıcıları vardır ve soluklanıp müzik keyfi yapabilirsiniz. Ülkede Chiado veya O Poeta Chiado olarak da bilinen 1500'lü yıllarda yaşamış meşhur satirik şair Antonio Riberio, Portekiz'in ve Portekizce'nin en büyük şairi Luis Vaz de Camoes'in de çağdaşıdır. Batı yönünde az ilerideki Luis de Camoes meydanına doğru yürürseniz de buradan sağa doğru çıkan sokaklardan Lizbon'un gece hayatı ile meşhur Bairro-Alto bölgesine geçebilirsiniz.

(Translated by Google) The beautiful statue of the poet António Ribeiro (the «Chiado») was made in 1925 by Costa Motta (uncle). It was this sculptor who made the Monument to Sousa Martins (1904) of Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, in Lisbon. He also made phenomenal sculptures of the Tombs of Luís Vaz de Camões and Vasco da Gama (1894), at the Jerónimos Monastery. A genius of sculpture, unfortunately undervalued by art historians because he was not born in countries like France.

In the midst of the barrio that bears his sobriquet there is su much to see, visit and learn from. It is very curious that in a small area there are 4 sculptures depicting Portuguese writers; that shows you the influence of literature in the country.... can you name the 4 writers?
